Bird problems at resorts?

Please don't get this thread locked! I started this thread to find out if other people have had bird problems. Every one of us has a different sense of humor and I'm sure nothing that was said was meant to be insulting or rude. I am so tired of trying to find out information on this board and finding nothing but a bunch of people bickering over what should be said and how it should be said. And before I get flamed...I am not pointing out anyone and I certainly don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. Can we please get back to bird talk now?

BTW...I'm so glad I wasn't the only one to be attacked by a bird at WDW.

There is NOTHING to lighten up about.....
How can anyone find making a joke about something so painful and heartbreaking to many people and especially to the young boys that were driven to the point of committing suicide be funny???? What is funny about that????? Please tell me, because I see absolutely NO humor in having children being violated, young boys killing themselves, and families having to live with this heartbreak and anguish. Making jokes and inferences to something so sad in "so called humor" is not funny it is demented, rude and insensitive! How do you know there are not individuals or families reading this board who have had to deal with this very issue and heartbreak? I wonder how funny they find statements such as this?? I thankfully, have not nor has my family been affected by this and yet I find statements like this very offensive, rude and ignorant. This is supposed to be a Disney topic family board!!!!!!!!!! Maybe the people that post this type of garbage or think it is funny should take a good hard look at themselves and reexamine their values and so called sense of humor!!

Shelle94,
To answer your question as others have, yes we have had problems with birds at WDW. The sea gulls seem to be the worst but when we were at WDW last week we did notice less sea gulls than we have in the past. CBR has even strung up thin wires across their outside seating at the food court to keep down the bird attacks. I am at WDW a lot and I must say the birds begging for food/taking food out of your hands, etc has gotten much less in the past 11 months which equals out to 5 WDW visits for me, than they have been. I guess Disney has realized the bird problem and doing whatever they can to remedy the problem.

Rich,
While what you wrote doesn't violate any guidelines did you ever stop and think how people who have been through that might feel? I realize you wrote it for the shock value but maybe once in a small while you might just want to stop and thank whatever you believe in that it didn't happen to you or your family.

Earlier today I read a post tread about animals being seen on disney property. Someone said they spotted a alligator somewhere near the Beach Club under a bridge if I'm not mistaken:( We are staying at CBR this July and I must say before I read the post about the snakes, alligators and the  bob cat:eek: somewhere near OKW:( I'm not that excited about going now:( I am really really fretting over this:( I'm not going to cancel my vacation (I would not dare hurt my kids because of this) but, I am really freaking out because of this. Can anyone tell me if there have ever been an incident where alligators or snakes have been sighted in CBR beach water or on the property:( I can deal with the snakes as long as it's going the opposite direction from me:o the alligator and crocs are another story
  Also Birds for some reason have a tendency to crap on me for some reason(Like when I got off of work one day stopped @ the store was dressed in my new suit and low and behold about a zillion seagulls flew off the roof of the store and crap was falling everywhere  People were running and screaming I had crap all over my suit (thank God it missed my head;) but the funny thing about it is when i walked in my front door the first thing my husband said"HOney You looked like you just been crapped on!" and he didn't even know what happened until i Told him:p :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

We've encountered the birds at CBR! I believe that there used to be strings/netting over the outdoor tables at OPR there to discourage the little pesties, but the birds just learned to fly in under it

We had to shoo a couple of big black birds (smaller than crows) off of our table when we tried to eat breakfast outside one day. Then the ducks came over, and all was lost, as my two DDs decided that they'd rather play with the ducks than eat their breakfast. Note: I did not let them feed the ducks or other birds, but my youngest just 'happened' to knock her cereal off the table  The ducks got so frenzied at that point that we grabbed the rest of our food and went back inside.

schmeck......You are right about the netting over the patio area at OPR!!;)
Now that you mention it, I remember when I first saw it and wondered "what and why??" It wasn't long before I figured why!! So we have been able to eat on the patio in peace!;)

The spot we really had to chase the birds away was at BW. Can't remember the name of the place where we were......we got pizza and sat outside.......birds EVERYWHERE!!

PRINCESS......Don't fret about the "animals" !!;) If they are there, they will never get close enough to do anything to you!
Now the BIRDS.....that is different:D You may want to wear a wide brimmed hat LOL :D
Hope you have a great time at CBR......:D
Hey....I got to go......leaving in just 4 hours!!:Pinkbounc

Where are the video cameras when you need them... All of these crazed birds and their bomb diving and no one has a picture or a tape!! LOL these stories are funny!! I keep picturing everyone when this happened.... tuna sand. being pilfered, someone running to get a hat so as to not be mistaken for nest material, chocolate being snatched right out of folks hands!( although as much as I love chocolate I might have done the same thing;) ) Thanks for the stories:p :p

O.K. One more...We were sitting in Frontier Land and this guy just bought a Chirro and as he went to take a bite this Seagull swooped down and took the whole thing right out of his hand. We all just looked on in amazement!!

Trying to remember exactly who I heard this from our about, but someone told me that they were in Tomorrowland once and a bird swooped down and took the hot dog they were eating but left the bun!!

Once at the Dolphin DW Lauri and I stepped out on the balcony with our donuts and immediately attracted a swarm of birds. Sheesh. They want some of our breakfast and they didn't even bring any juice to share with us. :p

That's what Disney gets for closing down Discovery Island. They are protesting;) the last time we stayed at CBR we were in the Jamaica section and the rooftops were covered with birds like miagration season. They must like the Carribean hospitality.Left for a few hours, came back they had all disappeared. Then again, maybe the eats were better elsewhere.

I'm the English lady jennymouse mentioned. This is our story from Fantasia Gardens mini golf, from my trip report.
Now I'm absolutely useless at mini-golf but I thought my luck was in when the CM forgot to give Roland a ball. Unfortunately Roland noticed so there went my chances of winning. Her colleague told us not to mind the nesting bird. We were on the first hole when a mummy duck followed by legions of fluff on legs waddled past us. We were entranced! We were also lulled into a false sense of security as we thought she was the nesting bird. The only other people playing were a few holes behind us so we were totally unprepared for hole nine. I was just trying to putt the ball the last few inches when something whistled past my head. I was sure I hadn’t imagined it but I couldn’t see anything. I didn’t see it the second time either but it caught my hair. I dashed back to Roland – he’d seen it. It was the nesting bird we’d so amiably been told not to worry about – I knew just how Tippi Hedron felt! It was as Roland moved closer to the hole that I finally caught sight of it, sitting on a lamp above Roland’s head. It was only a little thing but every feather of its being declared war! As Roland moved round the hole, so did the bird. They were synchronised, step for step – my money was on the bird. Roland watched from the corner of his eye but the attack was so sudden and so accurate he didn’t stand a chance. By the third swoop he’d fled. The bird returned triumphantly to the lamp. And where was I? I kept well out of it. I was laughing so hard I couldn’t stand up, never mind flee. It’s the only time in my life I've ever wished I had a camcorder.
