Thanks, everyone, for explaining so well how we can help a worthwhile charity and save money on our upcoming trip to the Disney as well. We thought at first that we would just let others benefit from the free tickets since we needed park hoppers for the week. However, after reading here that the GAD voucher would yield full price credit toward the cost of a multi-day ticket or even an annual pass, we searched for a local charity and got a response back from the nearest blanketmaker chapter the same day. We're going to be making blankets for the Binky Patrol, which seems much like Project Linus.

I'm excited thinking about the teens who will get the blankets we make, getting the buttons with pictures of Kermit and Miss Piggy, and doing further trip planning, as for the first time I'm going to run the numbers to see if an annual pass would end up saving us money overall.

Congratulations! Enjoy!

Lazy me. I went shopping at the local fabric store and on the way in the door found precut "kits" containing the two 2-yard lengths of coordinated color fleece needed to make each blanket. The patterns were appropriate to the ages I needed to shop for. The kits were on safe for half price, making them cost less than the sale prices for the fleece on the bolts inside the store. All we have to do now is cut fringe and tie knots!

My family made blankets for Binky Patrol too! They responded very quickly. I signed up, made the blankets, and received my vouchers all in one week!!

We just bought our fleece tonight for BP blankets. My boys had fun picking out patterns. I did see the precut fleece kits but then I would have ended up with one pattern and one plain blanket per kit. I wasn't sure of the appeal of a plain blanket (I know project Linus only takes prints, wasn't sure about BP) so I ended up buying fleece by the yard.

We're going to make three "teen" sized blankets and two child sized blankets from the four of us. I have about half of the fringe cut on one blanket. I'm hoping to finish it up tomorrow so the boys can start tying the knots.

I found cutting the fringe with a rotary cutter made it go really fast.

We too are making blankets for this group. I talked to the lady in charge on Friday. She is so nice and really appreciative. I wanted to make exactly what she needed. She was very specific. We bought our fleece and made the first blanket. It went well.

My teenage daughters are really into it. I am so happy they are enjoying doing something for someone else.

I was wondering what sizes you actually did. We are doing this project as well and are supposed to provide a twin sized blanket or two crib sized. I was just wondering what size this means.

Does the fringe count in the total size. We already did two baby blankets, but now they look too small. I just dont want to send in an inferior blanket.

However, after reading here that the GAD voucher would yield full price credit toward the cost of a multi-day ticket or even an annual pass,

where did you get this info? i was led to believe otherwise...
how would it work if you were buying a package (room/dining plan/tix)? can you put the cost toward upgrading a ticket (i.e. buy a one day base and turn the base and the GAD ticket into a 7 day hopper?)

We bought 2 yards of fleece with the standard width that was about 58-60 inches wide.

Once you have cut off the salvage edge and tied the knots, it is smaller than 60x72. Still it is a good size. It ends up fitting the top of a twin bed. I hope this helps.

We have a room only reservation because we're getting a convention rate on the room. No package for us. The dining plan would not work for us anyway. We will take our GAD vouchers to Magic Kingdom to exchange them for one day tickets which we can then upgrade to park hoppers for the number of days we need.

This is explained in many other threads in this folder, but some people who have packages are getting just a one day ticket with their package which they will hold for a future trip if they trade in their GAD vouchers for tickets. Others are trading their GAD vouchers for Fast Pass cards or the figurine/pin option.

I'm considering whether to get a rotary cutter.

We are going to use the two pieces of fleece in each kit to make double blankets since our instructions said single is okay but double is warmer for the older kids. The patterns I picked out suit older teens.

I signed my family up for the Binky Patrol project today too. They are so excited. We will be making 6-12 blankets depending on the size we choose.

Thank you! That is what I did as well and it is a good size. What a neat project. My kids really enjoyed it.

Our chapter said they had to be 50x70 coverage area after fringe. I am trying to figure out if the large size kits at Joann's would work for this. If not I will just buy the fleece by the yard. We are making 6 blankets this weekend.

Our BP chapter wanted single layer fleece blankets. She said they really needed teen boy and little boy so that is what I bought.

For the teen boy fabric (we found a great guitar print and a grey camo print) I made them 2 yards by whatever the fabrics width was (60 inches I believe) and fringed all four sides. For the child size we used 1 1/3 yard by 60 inches and fringed just the long sides.

My little one had trouble tying the knots so on the child sized blankets instead of tying knots I cut a 1/4" slit at the base of each fringe and he looped the piece through. I found that idea on the Project Linus webpage. I actually like the look of those blankets the best.

To make this project even more meaningful- when I took my boys to the store to buy the fabric there was a fleece print there that my MIL had used to make an outfit for my older son's Webkin. My MIL was killed in a car accident last summer. Noah recognized the fabric right away and HAD to have it. My son attached a note to the blanket saying that it was made in honor of his Nonna.

That is really sweet. I am sorry for the loss of your MIL. This made me think of my Nonna who sewed and made me many special things too. :lovestruc

We are almost finished with our Binkys. I signed up my family of 7, (3 generations of us going to DW). On my "teen" blankets I decided to sew the top and bottom instead of doing the fringe. I really like this look and it keeps the length about 6 inches longer. I wish I had thought of doing that earlier.:upsidedow

My kids really enjoyed making these blankets for kids. It's nice to think that some children will be warmed and comforted by our fleece blankies.

I got signed up yesterday and got my fleece today. FYI, JoAnns has a lot of fleece for 50% off. We are doing 3 blankets for older children so I got one pattern for a boy, one for a girl and one gender neutral.

Help! Just got signed up for Binky Patrol right before the cutoff of the GAD program. I have no idea how to get these blankets put together. The lady at our chapter was VERY limited on information. I kept asking if she needed certain styles for boys or teens. Never could get a good response. And of course I can't get back into GAD to see if there were any more details on the "opportunity".

Here is what she said:

what needs to be done is fleece blankets 50 x 72 single sided or smaller. they have to have 8 hours for each person to obtain a voucher. any more questions pls let me know

Not really sure what "they have to have 8 hours means". For those of you doing this, you are just doing one blanket per person right? I am happy to do more, just not sure if I am supposed to. Can anyone lead me to a picture of a finished blanket so I know what I am going after??

Thanks!!
