another break friends.... *sigh*

the truth, dh and I are ttc, have been for nearly 11years with no joy, and we've now been given the crushing news that we wont be given ivf (the only way for us apparently) unless I weigh 182lbs or 13 stone! :furious:

on the bright side I had a small loss this week and can have my 20lb clippie back!

I'm distressed, but I must go with this, I've made a ticker showing my ultimate goal, it doesn't look as bad as I thought it would actually... I'm wanting to aim at losing 3-5lbs a week.

the how is harder... I guess it's back to the old equasion, less in, more out (exercise) = weight loss.

so, I give you my new look food diary

breakfast ~ atkins bar
lunch ~ carbolite hot chocolate
dinner ~ porridge
snack ~ three slices wafer thin cheese and keto jam
snack ~ bacon jerky

drinks :drinking1

lots of sugar free diluting orange

I usually don't read Wish Journals, but yours caught my eye.

{{hugs}} 182 lbs seems to be excessively low! I wonder if people here in the US have the same restrictions. At least this will be a huge motivator for you.

'k, I had a vbg, vertically banded gastroplasty, 2 years past october! I've lost 98lbs, but I'm wanting to lose around 75-90 more!

I've stalled, I've been within a half pound for the last year! this is great, I've never maintained before, but hey, maintaining is boring, I want a thrill ride

so... I bought some Atkins shakes and snacks!

I try to stay under 600-700kcal a day (fear not, my body has long since adjusted!) and very low carb.

I see that you have had gastric bypass (using a band) and that you are on a severely restricted diet. I have not had gastric bypass, but my sister did (the whole thing, not a band) so I really have no idea what her caloric intake is. After 2 years she eats lots of small meals and she still "dumps" if she eats too much. My guess is that your body did adjust to your very low calories by going into "starvation" mode. Obviously, that's not what you want! Also, do you really want to eat Atkins Frankenfoods (shakes, snack bars, etc) for the rest of your life or do you want to eat *real* food?

I would recommend that you contact the doctor who did your bypass and arrange an appointment with a nutritionalist on his/her staff. From an outsider looking in, your current plan doesn't seem to be working for you.

FWIWm can you actually *do* Atkins? Can you eat fat or do you dump? If you can do Atkins then I would recommend a great website: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/index.php? . Be aware that they are "By the BooK" bunch :). If you dump on fat, then Atkins is not for you as fat and protein intake is the center of Atkins. Perhaps you would do better with another diet. This board looks nice too: http://www.lowcarbbulletinboard.com/diet/index.php

Good luck on your weight loss! I hope things work out for you and you meet your baby goal {{hugs}}.

hiya Robin! thanks for saying hi :goodvibes

182lbs, I think it's low, I know several people in the states having ivf at 230/240lbs... I think part of the reason for the low weight limit here is that they want as high a live birth rate as possible (they get more money from the goverment that way) and dont want anything to skew their figures.

I didn't have the full bypass (basically the surgery was only on my stomach) but am being reffered to talk to the surgeons about that.

at the moment I dont dump on anything, but can only eat very soft things (or very carefully chewed things)

My guess is that your body did adjust to your very low calories by going into "starvation" mode

yep, my doctor says I'm the best "adapter" he's met in a long time, which is not so good...
I have pcos and that tends to make your body very good at preparing for starvation, the idea being that in lean times it will hang onto weight and keep you fertile when others are too thin. So when it started getting 5-700kcal a day it just adapted to use less I guess.

atkins frankenfoods! lol, no I dont like them very much at all, the shakes have some downright spooky ingredients. but the low carb thing really works for me (as long as I keep the calories low too) and makes me feel very good, more energy etc.

I shall check out both those websites, thank you so much!

:wave2:

hmm.. toast, I never knew I could eat toast, but I can! and it's really filling, so I'm trying eating things that fill me up very quickly as I (obviously) can eat less of it but still feel full, it aint atkins friendly, but I'm experimenting!
we'll see if this tactic is working on friday

it's very hot here, by uk standards, that really helps as all I want to do is drink and sit in the shade, eating is too hot and icky.

I just dont know what to make of this.... :confused3

last week my scales showed 4lbs before I stood on them, so when I weighed I subtracted 4 from my total giving me 265lbs

today I weighed, the scales showed 0lbs and said I'm now 275.

now what I put in my food diary is the truth, that's what I've eaten this week and I really dont think I can gain 10lbs on it

if the scale last week was really at o and I shouldn't have subtracted 4 then last week I was 269lbs, but even then I'd have gained 6lbs, in a week.

I just dont know what to do with this, I think I'll go try a scale that's not mine, maybe the battery is on it's way out or something :sad2:

otherwise I've had my worst week on record. I'm not updating my clippie or ticker till I've checked on another set of scales to verify mine.

I think it just goes to show that eating carbs (aka bread in this case) does not work for my body at all... even if it's less than most people would eat in a week it just doesnt cut it for me.
