Bin Laden - celebrations

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YogxCAWXsLs

When another country cares about what has happened to our country, they can say what they think. This was an example of something England did to honor 9/11 but I'm sure there were similar tributes elsewhere.

The OP had an opinion. But she's been jumped on because she's not an American. I am really embarrassed that so many people think someone cannot have an opinion because they aren't American.

I don't really care if people celebrate. I think the majority of people are celebrating because this is seen as a victory for America. But I am sure there are others who are celebrating because he is dead. Either way, I'm not going to get offended but I can see how it would portray a bad image because a lot of it comes across as what goes on at football games here.

Hi gang,

You know i've been avoiding these bin laden threads for some time.

Everyone has a right to react and feel differently about his death. I even bet members of his own family are in mourning right now. With that said, I for one was on duty when it hit the news and my Fire house went nuts with clapping and cheering.

I was on my third year with the New York City Fire Dept on 9/11. What we went thru and what we saw and found will haunt me as long as i live. We have a saying "Never Forget" However there isn't a minute that i wish i could. 343, thats right three hundred and fourty three members of the F.D.N.Y. Were murdered on 9/11. Some of you have had a friend or family died on other dates. On 9/11 i personally knew over 80 guys that disappeared forever on 9/11. Could you imagine losing 343 members of your family or friends in a single day???

37 Papd, 23 Nypd, 18 Nyc ems all gone in a single blink. Nevermind the poor people of the world trade center, who were just going into work to provide a better life for thier familys, maybe a disney trip in the future. Over 2,700 are still missing. Lets not forget all the members of first responders that continue to die from 9/11 proven related problems. To date over 900 have died and more will continue to die. One of my best friends from my fire house, now 34 a non smoker, advid runner, now remains in a nursing home because his lungs are so bad that he cannot get enough oxygen into his blood to support him to be able to just take a few steps. He was given 6 months to live 2 years ago. His family including his 3 kids wait for his death, last i heard he is now in a coma. As much as i tried i cannot bring myself to visit him.

Then of course these was members of the FDNY, that we found at ground zero. Could you imagine finding one of your friends in pieces?? Cause i did that several hundred times.

I have no problem with anyone not caring to celebrate his death or even feeling bad about it. With me its personal! If given the chance i bet just about every memeber of the FDNY, NYPD, NYC Ems would have signed up to put the bullet in his head themself's.

So , i dont blame you when you have mixed emotions when you heard about his death. Just don't blame me when i put my arms in the air in victory at the same time as a tear rolls down my face for what we lost over the years.

Mr. FDNY.

She said she was disgusted by the celebrations, those celebrations were in the USA by Americans.

So I'll rephrase I would not go to the UK section of this board and state what disgusts me by what I have seen celebrated in their country, happy.

I was disgusted by the actions of those people who celebrated, no matter what their nationality is. I am NOT disgusted by Americans and will not tolerate being portrayed as such!

Well in my book when someone is disgusted by the actions of a group of people who belong to one larger group, she/he is stating disgust by those people individually and as a whole. The people the OP was referencing her disgust with are individual American citizens celebrating the actions of our country as a whole.

Your book does not apply to me then! If you have read this thread you would see that many have pointed out that only small groups (mostly college students) celebrated the death of Osama Bin Laden. Those groups disgust me, but others do not. I want that to be very clear. It´s not up to you to decide whom I´m disgusted by and whom not.

:snooty: Well I guess you told us!

Did you read the above quoted thread? Many college students are volunteer firefighters. ;) Including my brother, who celebrated. :wizard:

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

That would be considered celebrating and thus disgusting.

I'd never seen that link before, and it made me cry. For what it's worth my family laid flowers outside your Embassy in London after 9/11 and cried for your country.

Thank you for everything. :sad1: I pray you find peace.

Is it ok if its a peace pipe?

:rotfl2:I did not think of that. Maybe we should start a new thread asking if it would be offensive or not before it happens so that we can avoid another thread later in case people would be offended!

mrFDNY Thank you for speaking out on this thread, your words brought tears to my eyes and I hope that those who think celebrating is wrong read them over and over.
Thank you for all you have done, and all you continue to do.

The pack mentality on this thread is getting out of hand and I really have to question why this thread is still open or at the very least, not been told to cool it down.

Again I agree with you. Many folks here have expressed themselves very well - on both sides of the debate. Those that haven't don't care what anyone else thinks anyway.
