Billy Ray Cyrus Blames Disney For Problems~

The salvia show was just to prove to the "older fans" she was cool, but I don't think she has the sense to stay off drugs.

If it truly was salvia (and I don't really have any reason to believe that), it's not just "showing she's cool." It is a hallucinogenic. The fact that's not yet illegal doesn't mean it isn't a dangerous mind-altering substance.

I'm referring to the fact that she made double dog certain that it was taped and made public. If you watch the tape, she's more than aware she's being filmed and she's been in the public eye too long to not know it will be on youtube in 5 seconds. I'm 99.99% certain she WANTED it to go public. That's the "Look, I'm cool," part.

The smoking part was just to get high. But you can do that privately. She chose not to. That speaks volumes.

ITA.

Miley is trying hard to shed her good girl image.

Gads, there's nothing worse than a whiny man! Step up and grow a pair,Billy Ray.Be her father and not her buddy. It's a pretty easy recipe to follow.

I blame him in part, I blame her in part and I blame the "hollywood machine" more than anything, and yes Disney is part of that. Kids have no place in this business, it is a nasty, stab you in the back and you better grow up quick business. They have no respect for anyone, and I bet you top dollar that most of this crap( the pics and parties) are planned as publicity to encourage her popularity. The bars let anyone in regardless of how old because that way they can get in and get hooked and the bars can get their name in the paper. It all stinks and I have no respect at all for anything that has to do with any of this. I also happen to believe that those powers that be are way more powerful than most of us realize and that in the end, I bet parents lose most of their control if they want their kids to stay in the business. I believe that ALL parents should keep their kids out of this business until they are 18. We will survive without these kids on TV. I don't think our entertainment is worth them losing control of their lives. These kids are a product, they aren't real human beings and are used as such, They equal a bottom line for business and when their usefulness is up, then they are thrown away like Friday's trash.

Rant over. And I don't care what anyone says. The business is to blame for the most part. Just ask any actor, most of them tell you that they wouldn't want their kids in this business for anything, and strongly encourage them to pursue other careers.

Sorry, now rant is over.

I agree. From what I heard on the news, he wasn't blaming anyone on the show, or business managers or anyone like that. He could have worded it better, but I believe he means that it was a mistake to allow her to do the show.
This.
Because he blames himself for not parenting better, he kinda seems to be taking full responsibility. But the press picked up the whole "blame Disney" thing and ran with it.
And this.

I just read the entire article, and it's kind of all over the place...

He talks about being friends with Kurt Cobain, and then wanting to help or save Michael Jackson and Anna Nicole Smith. Huh? He talks about when he was touring, kids, favourite table, etc... It seems as though he may be struggling with depression or some other emotional issue, as I just see a lot of heartache in the article, and he seems genuinely confused as to what his life has become.

I don't think Disney totally ruined his family, and he needs to accept personal responsibility for being a friend rather than a parent. I'm sorry, but if someone was trying to do wrong with my babies, I would get in the middle of it, no matter what was at stake. And, if contracts were signed that gave up some of his parental involvement, then that is highly problematic as well. I do see issues with Miley, and have for years. If indeed Billy Ray is struggling with depression or anxiety, then he is probably feeling very scared and fatalistic at the moment (why else mention those other dead stars?), and is clearly worried about his daughter, and the rest of his family. But on the flip side, he and his wife are to blame for some of that. Nothing good can come from no discipline and no boundaries. Throw in buckets of money, and you will have major problems. Surely he knew that, as he has been famous for a long while now. What caused him to lose his way in regards to parenting his daughter?

Not sure what the answer is here? Should they have been better parents in regards to discipline? Yes, according to Billy Ray. Did Disney take advantage? Probably. Do the handlers really care about their charges? No, as money is at stake. Do teens have issues with impulsivity and high risk behaviour? Yes.

So, knowing all of that, perhaps now soemthing can be done in regards to setting Miley on a positive path, but at age 18, when you have had money and fame thrown at you for many years, setting herself on the right path is not going to come easy. Show business is a nasty business, yet they allowed their children to be a part of it, as they themselves were. Did they think they would be immune to any problems that came their way? Hindsight is 20/20, especially when your world has been turned upside down...and you yourself had a hand in that upheaval.

Interesting thread, Tiger

I know there has been the recent "bong controversy" with Miley, but I still think it a stretch to compare her with Anna Nicole. It's not like marijuana use in college age kids is unusual. I don't see Miley becoming an "Anna Nicole" train wreck.

It wasn't even marijuana. It was salvia, which is still legal in many states. Assuming she was in one of those states, it wasn't illegal at all.

I keep reading about "handlers". While he can't change who she hires NOW, where was he when those "handlers" were being hired when she was not an adult? He or his wife had to have hired them, right? So...why? Why did he do that? And while she was a minor, if he is the one that hired them, why didn't he have more say over them? It seems silly.

It's not like he's a newbie to celebrity...he had his own run of that, he knows what it's like. He should have and could have EASILY seen this coming, and should have nipped it in the bud immediately.

But then...I think I read that his wife was his fan club president? Which is pretty weird to me. Makes me feel like his reality-meter is off (who on earth would marry their fan club president? yikes).

I think it's wrong to blame Disney. He sure was loving it while the money was rolling in, and he would still be loving it today if the show was still on.(IMO)

He, of all people, should have known what it was going to be like for her.
Kids grow up fast even out of the spot light, and most seem to think they know everything by the time they are 16,17 or 18. Add to that fame and tons of money, it's a recipe for disaster in some cases.

I lost it for him though when he was at the first really bad photo shoot of her, and allowed those pictures to be made. He knew what he was doing, and do you see where that gets you? Yes, sex sells, but I don't think that a girl under the age of 21 needs to be posing for that type of picture or acting like that in videos. It's slutty to me.:snooty:

I don't even know how anyone can make keads or tails of his interview. As far as I'm concerned, from what I've read, it's almost as bizzare as the Charlie Sheen interview. He blames himself, then goes off on Disney.

In the end it was his responsibility to be a parent. He failed at that because he wanted to bring back a broken career and saw his daughter as his meal ticket.

Oops. I never even read the article when that happened. I just looked at the picture and had flashbacks to my college days - and assumed it was wacky weed.

This article is interesting, and I am left feeling a little bad for BRC although I don't think Disney is to blame for his marriage falling apart and the now rift between him and his daughter.

I do find it smart that he didn't want to go to the bar for her 18th birthday party. I read that Mark Sanchez of the NY Jets met his 17 year-old hookup at a nightclub in NYC who went there with her mother on New Year's Eve. He just got a bunch of negative press for "dating" a 17 year old but how can you not place some/most of the blame on the parent who should know better?

I bet they were hired or recommended by Disney.

Did anyone else who read the article notice that, more than once, the author suggested that BRC was only saying what he thought he *should* say?
