I posted last May that my BIL was in need after my FIL died. He is mildly mentally impaired but FIL had never helped him to learn how to live on his own. He just gave him money all of his life and never forced him to get a job (he is/was very capable of doing so) or made him understand that he would occasionally need help (which he refuses everything but money). Since DH is the only living relative, he has tried to do what is best for him in the last few months; protecting his portion of his inheritence, providing for his needs, etc.... It has been a challenge.
4 days ago, he called the prayer chain at his church and someone eventually called us that BIL was in lots of pain. DH got him to the ER and they did a CAT scan. His hemoglobin was 6.7. Yesterday, he had surgery to remove a section of his colon.
He has/had two primary cancers in his colon, which they removed. His liver is over 70% malignant. No bone scans have yet been done but it is now a mute point. He is too far gone for chemo.
......... and he doesn't comprehend it all.
Fortunately, the estate attorney gave DH good advice about getting the money in DH name until it was all settled. Since BIL has no money, he qualifies for many needed services. DH can then use BIL's funds for necessary things to support him in the next few months, like home care, transporatation needs, etc... Things that he won't want a relative or close friend to do but needs to be done.
He is in for a lot of pain and woe before he goes to meet the Lord. DH watched his mother die of cancer througout all of his high school years. She was buried on his 18th birthday. BIL is the last living immediate relative.
Please pray that we will be able to do what needs to be done to support him during his last few months. It is a very difficult situation.
