bikes or no bikes?

We will be tent camping at FW in October for 8 nights (DH, me, DS5, and DS7). We booked a partial hook-up site so we will be in loop 1500 or 2000. Should we bring bikes with us? Do people take the internal busses to the main bus area or would the bikes be helpful?

If you have room I would bring the bikes. You can leave the at bike racks at both bus stops ( Outpost and Settlement ) They are also great for just touring the campground or going to the store or pool area. There are bike paths along all the main roads ,even a path to the Wilderness Lodge.

I would definitely bring the bikes. We find that it is so much more convenient to ride our bikes to the main bus stops instead of using the internal buses. It's also easier to ride to the stores, campfire programs, etc on your bike. FW has excellent bike paths all around the campground and to the Wilderness Lodge. Lots of fun!!

If you can absolutely bring your bikes, we use them a lot, to go to the pool, to the marina to the store, much easier than waiting for an internal bus.

We've never had an issue with the internal buses, even with strollers, but we sure do miss our bikes when we don't bring them. It's a great way to get around and a great way to spend some time just rolling around in the afternoons or on days off. Just don't forget the grocery sacks to cover your bike seats in case of rain. Wet seats are no fun! lol

I agree that bikes are nice, but NOT ESSENTIAL. If you have room, fine. If not, don't feel bad. We have gone many, many years for two-week stays and have not taken bikes because of the space issue (long drive).

If you have the room take the bikes..you'll be glad you did. As mentioned touring around FW with the bikes is a lovely way to take in the sights of the campground. This way you also have another option than just relying on the bus transportation.

If you have room TAKE THEM! We have a bike rack on our truck so we have brought ours twice. It is so much fun to cruise FW on a bike. Like others mentioned there are racks at the trading posts and by the boat dock. We never locked our bikes though.

I'm glad this question was asked. We're planning on bringing our bikes. Of course, both kids need to learn to ride.

Yes, absolutely take the bikes. This March will be our first time with bikes at the Fort. Last year we were there in October and rented a golf cart for a couple of days to ride through the loops and check out the Halloween decorations. There are some really creative campers out there! You can't drive your car around FW but bikes and carts are allowed.

One of the great things about camping and the Fort in general is the fact it's almost like living at the World. You go to the parks, then head back to the "house", fire up your grill while the kids go ride their bikes around the block. That's pretty cool.:thumbsup2

Speaking of bikes. I can't recall, do any of the Disney buses have bike racks? I think I remember seeing one. Or did I? Maybe on a bus to Downtown Disney?

I don't recall any bike racks on the buses. However, I could be wrong. Anyone else?

Never seen a bike rack on a Disney Bus. I would bring em for sure if you have room. I didn't bring our's once and I regretted it the whole time. They're nice to have for trips around the cg. There is bike racks everywhere you can think of and if not a tree to lean it on is close by.

Does anyone worry about theft or has there ever been a problem with bike thefts? My kids have a couple mountain bikes (not cheap!) and i'm sure they'll have locks and hopefully they'll use them but i was just wondering if this was a problem. I can just see them being in a hurry and just laying the bike down somewhere.

We never bothered to lock our bikes but they weren't expensive. There are racks at the pool, trading post etc and there are tonnes of bikes so I think they would be quite safe locked up.

I've left mine and daughters bikes sitting at the boat launch all day while we were at MK and no problems with theft. I don't even lock them up at the camper at night.

We never lock our bikes, either. If I parked it at the Outpost I might, though, since the parking lot might make it easier for someone to tote them off.

The little bike is a $40 Target special, and the two other bikes are $450 special order Schwinns--it's hard to find 7 speed bikes with coaster brakes!:rotfl:

I always lock our bikes, even if we just run into the camp store. I just feel that if any teenagers felt mischievious, they might borrow them for a joy ride and I would be sick if I didn't have them to ride around on. It's so much fun to ride around the campground on them plus it's easier to ride back to the campsite after a day at the parks.
