3 weeks and 2 days until we surprise our kids with their first trip to WDW and the Fort. Can't wait! I haven't been back to the Fort since my first visit to WDW in 1971. We are bringing our bikes and I was wondering if we need to plan on locking the bikes up? Frankly it might be a blessing if someone took the kids bikes but I prefer to keep mine. Any thoughts?

It would not hurt to lock your bikes up. They have a lot of bike racks and having them locked will discourage the easy bike borrower, and assure you a ride back to your site.

When we took ours we always locked them up.

I would bring locks.
99.9% of the people at the Fort are upstanding, good people.
However, it would only take 1 person to ruin your trip.
Take away the opportunity for some one to ruin your fun.

Definitely lock them up if you want to keep them! We never used to lock ours until I started to hear of people having theirs stolen at the Fort. Now we lock them up at the racks and when they're unattended at our site.

I have been going to the Fort for years and was just there for Labor Day weekend. I have a lock for my bike, but I never use it unless we are going to be away for awhile.

I.E - Parking at the convience store (Meadow Trading Post) no lock.
I.E- Taking the bus/boat to the parks or other resorts locked
I.E - Riding over to Wilderness Lodge for Ice Cream or drink no lock.

PS
It's now a rule that your bike needs to have a headlight and a tail light.

That's great information! I didn't even think about the lights and riding around at night. Thanks for the input!

Definitely lock your bike. Also, we have lights because getting around at night is very hard without them. BUT, we remove the lights when we park in the morning and carry them around with us in our backpacks because OUR LIGHTS WERE STOLEN right off our bikes one year. So now, they have quick release, and we take them with us.

Tail light? Do u mean a reflector or an actual light? :confused

I found this regarding bike rules at the Fort. You will need head and tail lights at dusk.

BICYCLES and RECREATIONAL DEVICES
• All Florida Rules of the Road apply while operating any bicycles (privately owned or Walt Disney World rental) and any electronic personal assistance mobility devices (EPAMDs), such as, Segways.
• Bicycles and electronic personal assistance mobility devices (EPAMDs), such as, Segways, must be equipped with head and tail lights to operate after dusk.
• Florida State Law requires that all bike riders under the age of 16 wear a bike helmet.
• Bicycles, provided the Florida Bicycle Traffic Laws are followed, and electronic personal assistance mobility devices
(EPAMDs), such as, Segways, may be used on sidewalks, paths, and roadways.
• Skates, kick and electric scooters, and electric mobility devices must be used on sidewalks and paths only. No roadway
use.
• Skateboards, ripsticks, gas‐powered scooters, motorized dirt bikes, and personal watercrafts are not permitted.

THANK U CLEMSON CAMPERS! I had no idea. I had planned on headlights but tail lights never even crossed my mind. ;duh: I would have been undone! :so relieved: :oversight caught!
