Does anyone know if you can rent bike trailers that attach to your bike at the Fort? Also, would you be allowed to have your dog in the trailer as you road your bike around the campground?

The other poster is correct they don't rent them. Check your local paper or yard sale for someone selling theirs or Target, Walmart and Kmart (Kmart has layaway). We got ours at Target and yes we do put our two BT's in ours and ride them around the campground. Everywhere except to the Meadow Trading Post areas and pool. Yes, even on the trail from FW to WL (we nicely pulled over and let the carriage go by though, they seemed to get a kick out of seeing our "kids"). Oh and by the way, this is also a great way to get them to their dog park. It's the safest way for your pet to be out of the pet loop and around other people etc. as they are completly inclosed.

Our BT's don't bark at anything or anyone, but everyone saw them in there. Go figure we can push them around Home Depot and Lowe's and half the time folks don't even know they are in the shopping cart but in that thing everyone noticed them. We got two reactions...one from people who don't have pets "their are dogs in there?" real shocked like and from the pet friendly folks. "wow now that's a great idea!" Even men weren't afraid to make a positive comment, one even said to us great idea, I think I'll steal that one. We just laughed as this wasn't are idea either, I actually snagged it from another poster on here that had it has her profile picture (her two dogs were riding in one).
It's really easy to convert, just take out the seat and throw in a nice plush dog bed instead. :)

Thanks to both of you for your response. I will definitely look into purchasing one as I know my Mr. Pibbs (Poodle/Cocker Spaniel mix) will just love it. He does not bark at passer-bys either. We will be there in September and I can't wait to try it out! :woohoo:

I am going back in September too...Labor Day weekend. Maybe I'll see you there. :)

We won't be arriving until Sept. 19th...sorry we will miss you, unless you are staying til around then. I love BT's ... my neighbor has one "Lulu" and she and Mr. Pibbs are great friends.

The DW and I bought one at walmart for are girls age 2 and 4 and its great. We don't have to get a sitter for the girls so we can go bike riding and the girls love it to. We take it camping with us and haul them to the playground and the comfort stations. We bought the $88 dollar steel frame trailer at walmart. Its red in color, folds up nice and I don't hardly notice the weight of it! Best purchase we have made since or camper!:thumbsup2

LOL! They are amazing dogs. :) This is our second set I am sad to say...I wish these animals were on this earth with us longer. :(
I wish, but can't afford to stay to long at FW, though I would love too. However, I'll be savings my pennies to try and come back Thanksgiving week if I can afford it and luck out with a canecllation.

:sad1: I know what you mean. Our Mr. Pibbs was just diagnosed with a heart murmur. He is only 7 years old. Right now he still loves his walks and is eating normally...just a cough at night sometimes.

I hope we can get back to the Fort at Christmas but will have to wait to see if funds and availability are there. :santa:

Prayfully that won't affect your Mr. Pibbs. Our last BT lived with one for 15 years and my little girl has had one since she was a pup. It's part of her routine check up to get it checked everytime we see the vet, but she is 9 now and is doing just fine with it. :)

The Vet told us to watch for a cough. Well he started last week and was up at 3 am again last night with a disturbing cough that lasted about 10 minutes. If it starts to get worse we will have to go to Vet for further advice. They took an xray of his heart and chest and it is large for his size and there is a 'bump' in the valve leading to the heart.
We can only hope the cough does not get worse and he is with us another 7 years.

Oh man, I hope it doesn't come to that for your Mr. Pibbs. Since my little girl shares the same problem, I would be interested in hearing what your vet has to say. Maybe thiers medication that will help? I will pray for your four-legged little one. Feel free to PM me as well. :)

Our Vet has advised that we could, if money was no object, take him to a Dog-Heart Doctor for a Ultrasound and have that doctor prescribe heart medicine, which is the same used for humans. Then, besides all the side affects and changes to Mr. Pibbs personality, we would have to take him to the Vet once a week for monitoring on this medication...for the rest of his life. Right now Mr. Pibbs has many good days, being his same old self, loving his walks, eating regularly, playing with his toys and cuddling with us. So far, the cough has only been once in a while at night. It is a disturbing cough but is usually over in about ten minutes.

Besides money being an object for us, I do not want to sacrifice all the happy times we have with him now. The Vet said it is up to us to determine if his health worsens to the point where he is suffering more than he his living.

So far so good.

Wow, that's not the simple solution I was hoping you'd come back with. I agree with your decision and would do the same for ours. I will still keep your Mr. Pibbs in my prayers and I am glad to read that the cough isn't all the time. Thanks for letting me know.

So far so good.
Here's to it staying that way! :)
