Our Vet has advised that we could, if money was no object, take him to a Dog-Heart Doctor for a Ultrasound and have that doctor prescribe heart medicine, which is the same used for humans. Then, besides all the side affects and changes to Mr. Pibbs personality, we would have to take him to the Vet once a week for monitoring on this medication...for the rest of his life. Right now Mr. Pibbs has many good days, being his same old self, loving his walks, eating regularly, playing with his toys and cuddling with us. So far, the cough has only been once in a while at night. It is a disturbing cough but is usually over in about ten minutes.
Besides money being an object for us, I do not want to sacrifice all the happy times we have with him now. The Vet said it is up to us to determine if his health worsens to the point where he is suffering more than he his living.
Wow, that's not the simple solution I was hoping you'd come back with. I agree with your decision and would do the same for ours. I will still keep your Mr. Pibbs in my prayers and I am glad to read that the cough isn't all the time. Thanks for letting me know.
So far so good.
