Bike + Rollerblade Paths?

Hey Gang,

This is my very first post so go easy on old Archie here. I just have one quick little question for all of you Disneyaddicts out there like myself. How come Disney does not have more Bike and Rollerblade paths around their resorts? For example the last time Me and my Girlfriend Veronica stayed at the Wilderness Lodge we brought our blades and we took the path over to Fort Wilderness and then Rollerbladed all over the campground, it was great. You could not believe the ground we could cover, we could blade from the Lodge to the Front of Fort Wilderness in less then 8 minutes. I was just thinking though, would it not be great if they had all the resorts and parks connected with Bike paths. I know I would take them, and it would be alot more fun then riding a boring bus plus it is more environmentally friendly and cheaper for Disney. What do you folks think?

Thanks Archie Andrews.

I forgot to add, if some of you ask about the liabilty issue, what Disney would need to do is have a liabilty waiver ( just like when you go sking) that you sign so you are responsible if there is a mishap.

Thanks

Archie Andrews

Hey, Archie. Glad to see you got your thread up!

With my weak ankles, attempts at rollerblading have been disasterous, but it's still cool to watch others zipping along. And your idea for separate bike/blade paths eliminates the concern of we walkers being overrun. (You don't think it would lead to requests for rollerblade parks, do you, with the attendent peril of injury/liability?)

Hope you get lots of positive responses.

That is very true safety mom, but we are talking pathways specifically made for biking and rollerblading not in-line skating on any sort of road or parking lot. I really believe that this would be a great idea for Disney.

Hey Gang,

You folks would not believe the amount of people saying to Veronica and I when we are blading by "boy if they had pathways to the parks I would be going to them on those things ( Rollerblades)" Maybe it is because I belong to DVC and I spend alot more time enojoying the resorts, but this would be such a low cost investment for Disney and they would be very surprised how well this would be received.

What would you do with your blades once you arrive to the park, I would hate to have to lug them around all day.

The problem would be that you and a few others would adhere to the rules and guidelines and only use the designated pathways. But there is a huge element of society that thinks rules are made for others and not for them and they would use the walkways and someone walking would get hit and hurt.

I don't see Disney offering this as for one it causes a liability to them with no gain. i

Lockers at the entrances of the park would be where you would store your blades and there would be bike racks to park your bikes.

I really like to think that most folks who vacation at Disney would follow all the rules but you are most likely right, society has changed and people do not seem to care about following the rules anymore.

I see you are new to the forums, welcome.

If you read enough of Internet forums you will see that many do not abide by the rules and it becomes a topic of heated discussion around here, with those of us that do believe in following the guidelines labeled the Moral Police.

If you want a sampling of this just do a search for any discussion on room occupany levels, ages for tickets, use of resort pools, refillable mugs and you will see what I mean. It is a shame though as it ruins it for everyone else.

They'd have to add a lot of surveilance cameras and security for bike and blade paths. It would just be too costly, especially after someone got hurt and sued (even a waiver does not protect anyone from a lawsuit).

Then, there would be those who would want to bring their bikes on the buses, because they would ride to one park, but be too tired to do it on the way back, etc.

Of course, then there would have to be safe ways to cross many of the very busy bus routes and roadways. Over passes would have to be built because it's just too wet there to go below the roads.

Alligators would be a hazard as well. :earseek:

Now, they could have an area near say, WWOS, where you could rent blades and go through paths - that would be cool, and easier to control and maintain.
