Biggest Tragedy you ever had

Not sure where to start...

Dh & I had been trying to get pregnant for two years and not having any luck. We got a great deal on a cruise and were looking forward to it when I found out I was pregnant. About a week before the cruise I had some spotting and went to dr. He did and ultrasound and we saw baby with a heartbeat. He said everything was fine and we could go on cruise. So our first night on the ship there was a really bad storm. The next morning people were throwing up all over the place (including dh) and I was just managing to keep it together. The next day we docked in Cozumel and dh and I were so happy to be on solid ground again. We started walking around and checking everything out. As the day progressed I started cramping and bleeding and knew what was happening.

We went back to the ship, and since we were docked they had to call the ship doctor. He proceeded to lecture me about taking a cruise while being pregnant. Then they made us disembark the ship and took me to a hospital in Cozumel. Meanwhile dh had to go back to our cabin and pack everything up then they had to take him somewhere to get our passports stamped because we were entering the country. After I got to the hospital they did another ultrasound and there was no heartbeat and no baby. :( I don't know how long I had to wait for dh to get there, it felt like hours. They ended up doing a minor procedure to make sure I didn't get any infections and I spent the night in the hospital. While the staff was great, there was one nurse who kept asking me why I was so sad. Ugh and then on the second floor there was no glass in the windows and I could hear the chickens in the yard next door.

The next day we flew home. From Cozumel to Cancun to Miami to Chicago to St. Louis. We finally got home around Midnight.

Worst Vacation Ever!!!

Ugh. Well you "win" (lose) for truly having the most tragic experience on a vacation. How awful. I'm so sorry that that happened to you. :(

Not any tragedies, but we do have one trip we all talk about being the worst trip ever. Our aging mini van kept breaking down, the worst being at the top of the Grand Tetons in an empty parking lot AFTER the ranger station had closed. I was allergic to most of our accomodations (cedar allergies) and slept in the mini van most nights. I literally couldn't go in the buildings except to go to the bathroom. My son was bitten by a buffalo gnat and his entire arm swelled up, necessitating a trip to the Yellowstone Ntl Park urgent care facility.

We got a new vehicle shortly after that trip and I have NO desire to ever go on a road trip to Yellowstone again!

We all got sick on a trip to WDW, but managed to have a good time anyway. I think not having to deal with car troubles on top of it made the difference.

DH and I were just in Disney for ToT 10 miler. We went to bed at 3:30 am, so happy that we finished the race with a decent time (for us, we're slow and thought we might get swept). Four hours later we received a call that our poor sweet dog died:faint: . My DS16 and nephew (19) let him out and he just dropped. That sure soured the vacation mood.

Flying down with my sister and 2 of her kids and sis ending up in the ER with chest pains the first night. Her husband wasn't there, he was flying in with their 3rd child the next night. Luckily her son was around 20 at the time, so he went to the ER with her while I stayed with the 11 year old at the resort. We switched off a few hours later.

They ran a bunch of tests, thankfully couldn't find anything wrong, and sent her back to the resort the next afternoon. After that rotten start we actually had a great trip!

 so sad.

We flew to WDW and spent the night at Boardwalk before leaving for our first Disney cruise. Woke up to an email that a friend/co worker was shot and killed in a random act of violence the night before. Still seems unreal as I missed the services and the immediate aftermath. Tried to put on a happy face for the kids. Then felt guilty. Need a do-over.

Friends convinced my parents to go camping on ST george Island in FL
They would pitch the tent
We arrived to see all tents flattened due to high winds and approaching storm

So 4 family's of 4-5 each all camped on the floor of one small house we then rented- it was a tragedy that turned into a FUN weekend:rotfl2:

We were on a cruise ship in the Gulf of Mexico when Hurricane Katrina hit. The ship did some rocking that night!

Not sure how tragic this is but it was just AWFUL at the time.
Drove to Myrtle Beach. Had a great time. On the way home, in NC, my dds (16 mos apart, older one always jealous of younger) started fighting in the van. Words and fists were flying. I pulled over, all 5 of us spilled out, girls swinging, yelling, one threw an open bottle of Gatorade at the other (don't know which one), dh and me trying to keep them separated, ds crying. A couple of pickup trucks come driving up and told us we'd better "take this somewhere else." The shotgun racks (with shotguns) on the back windows helped us make our decision to get back in the van and get outta there.
It was a HORRIBLE ride home. :crazy2:
This was in 2009; my dds are finally able to be in the same room with each other....only took 5 years. :sad2:

Didn't happen to me, but a friend..

Friends had bought their parents a cruise for their anniversary. It was their very first one.

Their ship had just pulled away from the dock when the father said he wasn't feeling well. He sat down on the bed and died of a massive heart attack.

The ship wouldn't (and apparently couldn't) turn around and go back to dock. There was some king of legal stuff about bringing the body back into the country without proper paperwork. So they were dropped off at the first port-of-call and spent several days trying to get back home. My friend had to get an emergency passport to go help his MIL get back with her husband's body.

As you can imagine, this was a very, very traumatic experience. My heart ached for the mom, having just lost the love of her life and in a strange place with no one that she knew. Absolutely horrible. :worried:

We had a family vacation to WDW Dec 2011 my husband and I with our three kids (4, 6 & 8 )with my parents, brother and my husbands parents. Almost everyone's first trip to WDW, so pretty excited. We decided on Dec as it was the one year anniversary of my brothers passing (25yrs tragically two days after Christmas 2010). My MIL's mother had been sick when we left, but we didn't expect anything, until we got the call 3 days into our 7 day trip that she passed, so we had to arrange for my husbands parents to fly back (this was their first time out of canada). We told our kids why Nanny & Popa were leaving and continued on our trip, remember this is my husbands grandmother, we had to stay for our kids as we didn't have insurance and to be honest we didn't know if we'd ever be able to afford to take them back, so we continued on with our trip making the best of it with our kids and my parents & brother. We made it home in time for her funeral. ( so thankful we made a trip into hospital to say goodbye before our trip). It obviously didn't give us a great feeling those last 4 days knowing what was going on back home :( I'm happy to say three years later we are booked to go back in feb for 9 nights, our kids won't find out till Christmas, we are thrilled to go again and fully enjoy the experience, I know this sounds funny but I pray for a trip with no stress and have that worry in the back of my mind. It'll be fine I know :) prayers welcome ❤️

October 2013 - Food & Wine Festival trip with another couple
Had been planning this trip for awhile. Was celebrating friends 50th birthday at WDW. 2 weeks before trip was to begin my mom was diagnosed with Stage 3C esophageal cancer & under hospice care Talked with mom about whether going on trip or cancel. She said go & have fun. Dad & I will rock on along & see you when you get back
I distinctly remember being at Epcot & had just gotten the empanada when I got a text from my dad saying that Mom had started throwing up blood & he was taking her to hospital. I got text updates all day long. Mom had reaction to the medicine Talked to family in Texas &they said to stay so we stayed for rest of vacation. I was anxious for rest of trip and was worst vacation (was there also during Fastpass+ test & had problems with that) Mom passed away January 2014

My girls and I flew half way across the country for my aunt's birthday party - big family event. We arrived early friday. By 2 am my 11 year old was throwing up. She was so sick we were at the er that evening. They gave her meds and sent us home. After 45 minutes at the pharmacy at midnight we were back at my aunt's house. She started getting sick again so we had to skip the party Sunday. My older daughter started getting sick too but much less scale. When aunt got back I had her take us back to the ER. We spent three days in the hosptial - unknown GI bug. We missed our flight home - southwest was amazing with the rebooking. Her souvenir from vacation was a hosptial water bottle. Last time we fly out there. She fell in the basement onto concrete and got a horrible goose egg on her forehead and fell down a flight a steps at a water ride. She never wants to go back.

September 2011, our first family vacation and first Disney trip. We drove from central Indiana. Just several miles into Florida my SUV started pouring transmission fluid all over. DH had brought some fluids with us, but not enough to fill the transmission. It was getting dark, it was so hot and I couldn't turn on the a/c or roll down windows. DH started walking to the exit (no idea how far). The kids and I were praying and crying. A nice man picked DH up, took him to the gas station, brought him back to us and helped DH crawl around under our truck to get a fix. A $4 clip had broken off the transmission. The man fallowed us to an auto parts store where we could get the clip we needed. We didn't have a bunch of cash on us (less than $100) but he got every dollar we had.

After we arrived home from our trip (without anymore car troubles) DS who was 6 at the time, fell at school and severely broke his leg. DS fell on a "teeter totter" and his leg bent the wrong way. He broke the head of his femur off going into the knee, dislocated and fractured his growth plate. He required surgery with temporary pins, cast for 8 weeks and was in a wheel chair. I'm happy to report he is 9 now and doing so well!

I'm a little nervous to go on vacation again, who knows what will happen when we get back this time! We fly out Saturday (that's right, no more driving for us).

We were on vacation in Hickory, NC when a woman watching another accident drove through the highway median and came at us head-on. My mom swerved our RV to avoid her and we hit the ditch and flipped over. I flew from the back all the way to the front and out the driver's window and the camper came down on top of me. Luckily I was extremely small for my age AND I landed in the ditch that was lined with soft sand. The camper was on it's side. My mom hurt her neck and my dad split his head open on the steering wheel when he dove trying to get to me. I was bruised & scared but fine. The police officers that saw the accident happen said they expected to find me crushed underneath & were shocked when I just crawled out. I still remember the hugs they gave me.
We went to the beach while we waited for our insurance company to arrange transportation for us and I sliced my foot open on a clam shell. I survive being ejected with almost no injury and end up needing stitches from a friggen shell at the beach!

I"m so sorry to have to read some of these stories.

The worst that happened to us was one year while getting ready to leave the Keys and head up to Disney, we received a call that while checking on our cats, BIL found that our basement had flooded as the sump pump quit. I spent the next few days worrying about how bad the damage was and hoping nothing was thrown out until I got home to go through everything. I was sad that the table that had been in my Grandmother's house for many years received water damage.

The following year half way through our Disney trip we received a call that one of my cats had passed - that one I almost wish they would've waited to tell us until we got home.
