Biggest park peeves?

Because I use a wheelchair I will often go to a table and let my husband pick up the meals after we order. It is very uncomfortable to be in the middle of the CS places with everyone going around you and some of them hitting me or my chair with their backpacks and bodies. Sorry that it bothers you but I am going to get myself in a safe place rather than being hurt be people who don't watch what they are doing. In both Pecos Bill and Cosmic Rays there are limited tables for those of us in wheelchairs to use because of chairs, strollers, etc in the aisles. They are supposed to be accessible but in truth once there are people in there they are not really
*sigh* Do I really need to include in everything I write on this thread with "Unless you have special needs"?. GMAB. OK. Don't squat at a CS table "unless you have special needs" and don't use flash photography "unless you have special needs". Happy now?

Haven't read the entire thread, so forgive me if this has already been mentioned, and I'm certainly not trying to offend anyone. Its just a suggestion. I think Disney should have stroller only lanes at park closings. I was injured so badly by a lady pushing a stroller that the Disney first aid thought it was broken after making the bleeding stop. Yes, we've used strollers at WDW, no we never used a stroller as a steam roller. JMO.

yeah....lol Im a big lady and I always manage to accidentally fall on them too...funny that...hehe

Not funny at all for those of us with hearing impairment who have been seated there by a CM and they just haven't brought the screen to us yet.

Let me just say that, as a stroller pushing mom, I am all for that idea!

Talking Hands, in many ways the needs of wheeled people are just ignored. I use a scooter full time. I went to Cosmic Rays for lunch and they were seating people. This young "clunker" took my tray for me and I was to follow him to a table. He tried to make me "run the gauntlet" towards a table in the back. There was no way I could get thru there with chairs, backpacks, kids, strollers, etc. in the aisles. I just quit following him and went back. When he came back, I explained my situation and he found me a table up front, right next to the garbage can. Oh well, it was accessible.

Another time at Restaurantosaurus there was a long line to get to the ordering stations. The hostess directed me to a non-handicap station. Being a Disney veteran, I knew that wouldn't work, because with a scooter, there isn't room in those lines to pick up your tray, turn around and exit. So I ignored the lady and went to the handicap line at the far end. I could hear her shouting behind me but I ignored her, just like she ignored my scooter. At Casey's I went all the way to the far end to put in my order. Looked like I couldn't fit the scooter in the other ordering lines. Just as I approached the counter, they told me the line was closed and to go to another line. I had to explain that I couldn't fit my scooter in the other lines and please would they help me where I was.

About the Disney buses. There aren't enough spaces for transport of wheelchairs and scooters. So they have to load them as they arrive, whether the handicapped person has been waiting or whether they just arrived. Otherwise the spaces would go unfilled and the line of handicapped people waiting for buses would get backed up.

Since they load wheelchairs first for safety reasons it is not fair when I am in line and they divert me to the area for loading wheelchairs to wait and then I wait again when people who arrived after me are loaded isn't fair either which is what has been happening to me at the parks. If I am in line and would be able to enter and sit in a seat if I was not in a wheelchair then I have a right to be on that bus. That is equal access. I don't ask for superior access nor will I put up with a lower level of access because of my wheelchair.

If I'm waiting in a long line for a bus for 20 plus minutes and then 2or 3 scooters pull up as soon as the bus arrives, I'm okay with letting those scooters on with one other person each. If there are children accompanying the one other adult of course they should get on as well.

My problem lies with the six able bodied adults (and more in some cases) accompanying each wheelchair. Why can't just one person get on with the person in the wheelchair and the rest wait in line? Maybe they will get on the same bus or maybe they won't, but they can meet up back at the resort.

It's a tough one isn't it. I don't think anyone objects to wheelchair users being loaded first so they can be safely loaded. I think that people object when they are accompanied by lots of other people who then take up places on the bus meaning people in line before they arrive can't get on. There should be a fair way of doing it surely. If everyone lined up together and they know how many can get on, if there is enough room for the people in line before the wheelchair user and their family then they should load the chair. If not they should wait for the next one. Surely it's about equal access to services. Loading a wheelchair user and their family ahead of those who get there first seems to be what causes the frustration and I can understand that to a degree.
Isn't Disney's "official" policy that one person can accompany someone in a wheelchair on the buses? I'm pretty sure it's 5 for rides. Of course, it doesn't do anyone any good if they don't enforce it and let everyone in a large group on.

I agree with the PP who wrote about not always wanting to give up their seat for others. If I choose to get on a bus with no seats left I should expect to stand or get another one. If someone decides to offer their seat to someone who might need it then that person should be grateful but to expect it is very presumptuous.

I agree that there should be a limit to how many can accompany a guest with a wheelchair. I believe it is 5 + the WC guest. That should be enough for most situations if enforced. Of course there is always the exceptions and those should be decided on case by case. For DH and I, it is normally just the 2 of us or us and 1 grandchild so the limit is not a problem for us. If the entire family were together we would just split up even with it being 6 adults and 2 children under 2
Definitely agree on not giving up seats. If you can't stand safely on the bus wait for one that has enough seats that you can sit.

Why should they be separated from their family just because the person in the wheelchair/scooter can't wait in the regular line?

If I am in a large group and not all of us can fit on a bus when it arrives then we would have to decide whether to split up and some wait for the next bus or all wait for the next bus. How is that different? It's not about the person in a wheelchair not being able to wait in the regular line. I don't see your logic.

Closing as folks cannot play nice.
