Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

Bethislucy: WELCOME! ::MickeyMo

penguin1102: Happy Belated Birthday

Shawn: I hope your able to get your home organized and the way you want. I've moved several times in the past 4.5 years and it is enough to drive me batty.

Oh, and I completely understand the feeling of being heavier then your spouse. I'm MUCH heavier then Alan and its a tad depressing considering he could sneeze and lose 5 pounds, :rotfl:

Lee -- Congrats to your son on getting his restricted drivers license :woohoo:

QOTD June 16

How in tune are you with your body and making adaptations to your plan to ensure success? If you are not seeing the results you want, what can you tweak to try and get your body better in tune?

Well, I thought I was in tune and doing awesome, until the PCOS bombshell was dropped on me. Now, she wants me on a diabetic diet. I'm going to have to do some figuring out on this one. Exercise is going well and I'm learning when to take breaks and relax. I've beat myself up a few times when I've not worked out 6 days a week but sometimes my body just can't handle it.

Jill -- I'm glad the garage sale was a success :cool1:

We know we can not really stay young for ever, but how do you strive to stay young at heart?

Easy, I go to Disney World :). I'm a big kid at heart so I enjoy the little things in life. Heck, I'd go see a Disney movie in theaters before an action packed, bloody, gun blazing action flick.

QOTD Monday: Have you developed a support system in your small world away from the DIS? Is someone nearby on the journey as well? Is your family supportive or do they think it is a joke becasue you've tried this many times before? Are your friends there to help or are they enables to food and drink? Do your colleagues know you are trying to lose weight or is that a definitey area to avoid conversation at work? How are you sharing your journey within your small world?

I'm part of a Biggest Loser Challenge on Sparkpeople (a free weight loss website) and all of the women are awesome support. I also post my workouts on my Facebook where many of my friends are awesome support as well. I've had many send me messages telling me I've motivated them to get off their butts and get into shape.

I've had a few bad apples here and there tell me "Oh your doing it wrong." I simply tell them, "I'm under a doctor's care and sorry I'm going to take advice from a person with a degree before anyone else." That usually shuts them up and they don't bother me anymore, :lmao:

Hi everyone, i'm a little late to the party but i'm going to jump on this wagon for the rest of the summer. my name's kate, i'm a nurse that works 12 hour night shifts. the older i get the less my body appreciates this. food at work can be a terrible temptation. people bring stuff in all the time. or we order out because we didnt bring anything to eat. trying to get away from those habits is very challenging. i was sitting here (on the disboards) being depressed about my weight and i started to read some of the threads. it motivated me to get off the computer and take a walk. so 1/2 mile later i'm back. feel good i did something. little steps count. i just wanted to thank you guys for the motivation, i hope i can keep it up.

kate

Welcome!!! I work nights too - but a more civilized schedule recently - I work 3 pm till about 1 am. I pack my lunch and snacks every day. It takes a lot of planning - but it's worth it.

Hello everyone :goodvibes

Just jumping in quickly to say that I'll be posting this week's results tomorrow night.

Janis mentioned that she had trouble getting onto the DIS and we're still missing about 30% of the weigh-ins this week, so maybe a lot of people are having the same problem.

I'll move the deadline up 24 hours and see if more people have luck tonight or tomorrow :confused3

So, if you haven't PM'd me, keep those weigh-ins coming :thumbsup2

When I tried to get onto the website - my antivirus software shut down the page. I tried my DS computer and the same thing happened. Everyone may want to run a boot scan of you computers.

Possible TMI but health question

I'm wondering if anyone has had the problem i'm having right now. The other day after my run which was friday my breasts felt kind of sore, and i thought it was just from the you know...jiggiling. They are still bothering me today, not 100% of the time, but they are very sore. I took a pregnancy test today and it was negative which i thought it would be, but i'm not sure why they would be sore. I have read that caffiene can affect your breasts, but i'm not sure how credible this is. I have no had coffee in quite awhile and i had it on friday and then again today.

Just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this. I know it's nothing to do with weight loss but you ladies know far more than i do about many things, so i thought i would ask...plus its bothering me.

I'm going to the doctor tomorrow so maybe i'll mention it to him, thanks in advance if anyone has any advice

I know as I aged my breasts became more sensitive around the time I was ovulating. They ached so much I would keep my bra's on even while sleeping to keep them in place!!!!

QOTD for Tuesday June 19
You have to venture a bit deeper into Fantasyland now to find our next friend. He has moved to the back of the park and has his own area of Storybook Circus. But Dumbo, regardless of where he flies has always relied on his inspirational feather to get him through.

Do you have a physical object that you keep in a prominent place to serve as your inspiration to keep on your journey? If so, what is it? If not, can you think of anything that you could use as your inspirational reminder?

Yes I do - my DH gave me a bracelet with a compass on it - to keep me on the right path.

I have never been able to wear a 2 piece bathing suit in my life, except when I was like 5. I know it may sound cheesy but I have one that I bought and really like pinned up in our kitchen so that whenever I walk in there it is the first thing that I see. It has made me really question when I go in there if I am really hungry or just searching out of bordem. I think that I need to come up with something small and discreet that I can keep with me at work to remind me of my goal during the day.

It's not cheesy or if it is then I am cheesy also. I have a suit 2 sizes too small hanging on my kitchen cabinets to keep me motivated.

I have been super busy - my DF 80th birthday party is this weekend. I have my big 2 1/2 week test at work - and it hasn't started smoothly. I am working about 13 days straight. Oh and did I mention I have to come in after my DF party?? Arrrrrggggghhhhh. I am trying to look on the bright side. The test ends the 4th of July, I have 2 days off after that, DS goes to camp for a couple weeks - then we are up to my vacation, then summer is over. Kids are back to school. But who's counting??

Janis

thanks for the congrats on DS's license. It is scary for me. Aparently he is doing good in class, I hope so. It will be awhile before I am comfy enough to let him drive on streets. Anyway you are all forewarned, if visiting FL he is out there on roads now :)

Here we celebrate our progress and recognize our superstars.

Reminders:
-after 3 weeks of no reporting, you are dropped from the challenge & can re-start at any time, though

Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge Week 2!
This week’s group loss = 31.2 pounds!
Average percentage of weight lost 0.39 %
Total group weight loss so far 104.5 pounds!

AWESOME!

Retention Rate (compared to the 58 participants we had sign up for our start week on June 1st)
84% (this includes the Losers, Maintainers and Excused people!). Let's keep sending those weights people!

Before the weekly superstar list comes the disclaimer. I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference this is the magic percentage of weight lost formula - weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week times 100, that gives us the percentage. Now let me test that with my numbers for week 1, click, click, click goes the calculator. Yes, that agrees with the percentage on the magic spreadsheet. (btw if its been more than 1 week between weigh-ins, then the % loss is divided by the number of weeks, to keep everybody on the same basis)

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of week 2?

NOW FOR THOSE OF US WHO SET A GOAL FOR THE CHALLENGE!!!

NOTE: This list includes participants who have reported in within the last 3 weeks, once someone misses 3 weigh-ins they are dropped from this report.

How this works: You set your goal for what you want to lose in the challenge. Then I calculate your weight loss in the challenge divided by your goal to get a % to goal.

Anybody can change their goal at anytime (or add a goal) – all you have to do is send me a PM.

Since the goals are an individual thing, the list is just in alphabetical order to make it easier for everybody to find their own name. If there are any questions or suggestions please let me know.

We have done 2 out of 13 weeks, so the challenge is 15% complete.

Do you have a physical object that you keep in a prominent place to serve as your inspiration to keep on your journey? If so, what is it? If not, can you think of anything that you could use as your inspirational reminder?

I absolutely adore that picture

I don't have a token out in the open, but hanging in my closet. I bought a top at my old store (I used to work at AE) that was at the time, about two sizes too small...I was optimistic, what can I say? I've never been able to comfortably wear it, but I plan on doing just that this summer at WDW. It already serves as a reminder of how far I've come. I remember how I used to look in it, and I know how I look in it now. I can't wait to share it with you all!

****************
Personal First World Problem Time! I really really REALLY want to move to Florida...like, NOW. It's something I've always wanted to do, and it's becoming more an option everyday. I know I should wait til I get done with nursing school, but part of my logical brain tells me to move now and get all my certification in Florida, since that's where I'll be anyway. But a greater part of my brain tells me it wouldn't be smart, you would have to work your butt off and take out great big loans you would not want to pay back, AND you wouldn't really be able to live the life you wanted to for some time. Like go to DTD for date nights and head to the parks on the weekend. But I want to tell that part of my brain to take a hike, throw my clothes in the car, gas it up, and head south. And DBF isn't helping either. He's already looked on CraigsList to find jobs available for him, and I already know how to transfer my CNA certificate to Florida. Even my mom has said she can't find a big fat hole in the plan, and she's good at that.

But I know that if I wait, it will be worth it on a lot of levels. Still doesn't mean I don't want to move rightnow. What a hard life I live :upsidedow

Okay, vent over! Back to your regularly scheduled thread!

Sorry I'm so far behind! Between the kids getting out of school, a soccer tournament for DD14 & three days at the coast, I just didn't have time to stop in.
QOTD Friday June 16, 2012

Clipboard02.jpg

As we ventured down Main Street with the Castle luring us even further into the park, we mount the sweeping ramps that lead to the entrance to Fantasyland.....beckoning us onward we find ourselve welcomed into Cinderella's Castle and are greeted by a hidden gem of the park....the beautiful mosaics in the passageway. The hidden gem that some people miss all together because they focus on the outside structure of the castle.

Many of us may be focused on the outside structure. Maybe others have been focused on that too. They and we forget about the inner person. Share a little about what makes you beautiful on the inside that maybe others don't see right away.

What is the hidden gem that makes you unique?

I am loyal, responsible, smart, hard-working, and I avoid conflict.

QOTD June 16

600full-mickey%27s-philharmagic-poster.jpg

As we enter Fantasyland and head to our left, we come upon Mickey's Philharmagic. Here we are treated to a cavalcade of Disney Stars in 3-D with Donald taking his turn at trying to keep the orchestra in tune with the help of Mickey's Sorcerer hat. He has an adventure of a life time trying to keep up with it as a storm picks the hat and him up and whisks him through some classic Disney scenes.

Now that we are in Week 3, hopefully you have a solid plan that you are following on your road to the healthier you. But as we know storms are potentially brewing around every corner.

How in tune are you with your body and making adaptations to your plan to ensure success? If you are not seeing the results you want, what can you tweak to try and get your body better in tune?

I am much more in tune with my body. I don't get stuffed & feel uncomfortable any more. I actually enjoy exercising. I just need to keep it up!

As we exit from Mickey's Philharmagic and continue our visit to Fantasyland, we come upon Peter Pan's Flight. Climb aboard a Pirate Galleon and take flight over London and off to Neverland as we join the boy who won't grow up.

We know we can not really stay young for ever, but how do you strive to stay young at heart?

With my kids, nieces & nephews, DL, having fun, goofing around, not taking myself too seriously. :)

QOTD for Monday June 18

images

Leaving Peter Pan and feeling like a child again it is time to take a boat ride into the musical world of children sharing our world. it's a small world celebrates the fact that we are all part of the same world sharing the same moon and sun, sharing the fact that a smile means friendship wherever you go, and that when we look at it the commonalities across cultures really help to show how small the world really is.

think about the fact that this attraction has it's roots in the 1964-65 World's Fair in New York which means the attraction is quickly approaching it's 50th Anniversary. In those 50 years the world has continues to get smaller as communication and technology have brought us closer together. Look at this thread for example, we have challengers from 4 countries on two sides of the world.

But these children with theie joyous song of harmony can also encourage us to look at our own small world that we have built around us--our family, friends and colleagues-- and we can ask ourselves how much do I really share with them.

In this journey to helathier living, it is important to have a support system for encouragement when times are hard and celebration when times are good. We have the DIS for the extended support, but what about in our small world?

So multi-faceted question today:Have you developed a support system in your small world away from the DIS? Is someone nearby on the journey as well? Is your family supportive or do they think it is a joke becasue you've tried this many times before? Are your friends there to help or are they enables to food and drink? Do your colleagues know you are trying to lose weight or is that a definitey area to avoid conversation at work? How are you sharing your journey within your small world?

°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
BONUS thought for the day

How can you adapt one of your favorite international food recipes to make it more friendly to your nutritional plan? Have you ever explored the high amounts of sodium and fat that are in some otherwise healthy looking international foods?

I go to WW so have a good support group there. Family is supportive. Dh was skeptical, but when he realized how serious I am, he's on board. Friends are supportive & complimentary, wanting to join me in getting healthier.

Bonus: with all recipes, I look for healthier options/ingredients. I am going to Mexico in December for two weeks and am a bit worried about what I will eat to stay on plan. I will be with relatives, so not at a resort or anything...

Seeing/feeling my bones as they become more apparent inspires me: my wrist, collarbone & hips. I am seriously considering getting a small tattoo, when I lose 50 lbs (1/2 of my goal), an anchor, which will represent several things, one being to remind myself of how weighed down I was, literally.

For some reason the phrase "Stay the course" has been in my head lately reminding me to focus on my plan of action. I was a little disappointed after the first week when I was expecting a bigger loss and normally that would have been the time I would throw in the towel and say "forget it...no matter what I do it doesn't work" but I stuck with the plan and didn't feel defeated and it payed off the next week. I'm sure I will have weeks where I feel that way again but I just have to remember to "Stay the course".

We must pay tribute to our fallen Fantasyland Friends.....Mr Toad....20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.....Snow White's Scary Adventures......just to name a few.

All of these hold fond memories for guests who visited the parks when they were open. What memory from your past drives you to be a healthier you?

Holding this spot for replies......sorry have gotten busy this morning and almost forgot to post the QOTD.....will be back later with the replies....

CONGRATS TO ALL OUR LOSERS FOR WEEK 2!!!!!

Good Wednesday morning everyone.

Yesterday was my first day of summer vacation :banana:

It was one of those rare days in the summer where it was sunny and cool. I spent the day hanging around the house. I stretched and walked. I am getting ready to do it again this morning. I may even take the dog with me. She could lose a few pounds herself this summer.

SInce it was cool I got to quilt some on the larger quilts I am working on. We are talking about bed size quilts. I am trying to finish ds's quilt. It has been in the making for a very long time and it would be great to get it done. I'm hoping for cool mornings so that I can hand quilt for a little each morning.

My back is much better but the pain has gone into my right hip. I was able to work it out yesterday with stretching and constantly getting up and walking around the house.

You have to venture a bit deeper into Fantasyland now to find our next friend. He has moved to the back of the park and has his own area of Storybook Circus. But Dumbo, regardless of where he flies has always relied on his inspirational feather to get him through.

Dumbo is one of my favorite rides. My best memory of this ride is flying with my dh late at night with the castle changing colors.

I think this week at least my inspiration is myself. I was at Father's Day with a couple of my sisters and they have gotten even heavier and I don't want to end up that way. I want to look good when we are in DW.

A few years ago I lost 30 pounds and it was the summer I went to DW with my sister. I loved how I felt that summer. I want that back.

Off to stretch and walk.

Congrat to all our losers this week especially Chicago262

Have a happy and healthy day.

Memories of how crappy I felt the last few trips to WDW. I want a different feel the next time we go this December.
Memories of being able to skate sideways (sidewinding) when we used to go skating all the time and having the power in my legs to pull the skates. I'm getting there again!

Quote of the Day

If you carry your childhood with you, you never become older.* ~Tom Stoppard

Up early this morning making ADR's. I just have 3 more to make but I have to wait for restaurants to open for Candlelight Processional.
I was surprised that we got everything I wanted especially since there were 12 of us. I even got CRT for 12 at 1pm on a MVMCP day. WOOHOO!!

Off to get DS15 from the track, mom took him in to work with her so he could get his 3 miles in before it gets hot. I suspect he will be done by the time I get there.

There are 12 of us on this trip and we got pretty much everything we wanted. We did have a slight arguement about where to eat the first night we are really all together. My dsis wanted The Wave at the CR. Dh looked at the menu and it reminded him of a bar so he was not fond of it. I suggested The Plaza and made a reservation for there. My dsis also made one for The Plaza at around the same time. Her comment to everyone was she wasn't sure if I made one for 12 people. What does she think I am stupid?:confused3 We kept my time.

Good morning Losers!:goodvibes Congrats to Deanna and all the Superstars this week! GREAT JOB !!! Hoping my name will be up there soon but I will have to actually LOSE some weight before that can happen:rotfl2:

I am running a little late today and was only able to read this one page. I will try to catch up later today. DS and I are going to a Lunch 'n Learn at the High School today. Dan Cathy, CEO for Chik Fil A is speaking and then we get a free CFA lunch. Hope they have the grilled sandwiches. Still have a few more things to get out of the rental house today and then our cleaner comes tomorrow. We are getting closer. We had another neighbor bring us a huge plate of cookies last night. I guess a plate of veggies just would not be the same welcome:rotfl:

Dona, glad your back is better. Buffy, good luck with the ADRs. Sounds like you are doing well with them.

QOTD for Wednesday June 20

We must pay tribute to our fallen Fantasyland Friends.....Mr Toad....20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.....Snow White's Scary Adventures......just to name a few.

All of these hold fond memories for guests who visited the parks when they were open. What memory from your past drives you to be a healthier you?

Memories of me when I was at my heaviest in 2009, trying to walk around Europe and keep up with my family and friends. Everyone constantly looking at me and saying "Are you OK?" My feet hurt so bad. Everywhere I went, I was ready to go home right away because I would get so tired. I never want to go back to being that out of shape again!

Have a great day all - going to be a scorcher here:cool1: Time to get to work.
