Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

Example: Disney World.... I used to be one of those people who was jumping from ride to ride. I didn't take in the atmosphere around me. I didn't care about the pretty landscaping, the picturesque (sp) beauty of it all. All the cute little shops and the things they sold. Now, I soak it all in, every little bit.

Tomorrow is never guaranteed and I live each day to the fullest.

This is such an awesome quote, and way of life. It's so awesome that you feel this way, and you should be proud of yourself!

And congrats on the new car- it looks awesome!

Ahh, I wish every doctor and nurse had your attitude. I have had to deal with some really negative people at hospitals when family have been ill. Your presence and attitude will help make tough times for families more bearable!

Christopher

Thanks Christopher! I just hope I am able to keep this very attitude all through school! But I don't think it will be too hard...expecially if I keep up the annual trips to WDW!:thumbsup2

As we enter Fantasyland and head to our left, we come upon Mickey's Philharmagic. He has an adventure of a life time trying to keep up with it as a storm picks the hat and him up and whisks him through some classic Disney scenes.

Now that we are in Week 3, hopefully you have a solid plan that you are following on your road to the healthier you. But as we know storms are potentially brewing around every corner.

How in tune are you with your body and making adaptations to your plan to ensure success? If you are not seeing the results you want, what can you tweak to try and get your body better in tune?

I think I am pretty in tune with my body, especially considering where I was a year ago. I can tell when I'm tired and not feeling good, and where I think it might be coming from.

QOTD for Sunday June 17

As we exit from Mickey's Philharmagic and continue our visit to Fantasyland, we come upon Peter Pan's Flight. Climb aboard a Pirate Galleon and take flight over London and off to Neverland as we join the boy who won't grow up.

We know we can not really stay young for ever, but how do you strive to stay young at heart?

I always try to smile! I would rather have a smile on my face than anything else, and it really helps my mood to smile. Also, I never stop playing. One of my favorite quotes is "You do not stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing." I like to unleash my inner child on a regular basis ;)

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there! I'm about get cleaned up and go take my dad to lunch, so I gotta run. Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Carol better safe than sorry. Not everyone gets the rash.

Saw the doctor, and she took my blood and I gave her the tick! We had froze it just in case. She said since I was symptomatic, that we would start the antibiotics right away - I need to go pick them up today. Hope they don't cause gastrointestinal issues on our trip - sometimes that happens.

Watch out for those community college courses - they become addicting. I took several over the last couple of years. Mostly landscape design, which I then discovered the Intro to Perennials, Intro to shrubs, Intro to trees, graphic design?? :rotfl: Shrubs 2, trees 2, Master Gardener classes. And all I realized is, as my knowledge of planting materials grew - so did the budget costs!!! Oh did I mention the photography classes??
It wasn't me that called my dress dated - that was someone else. I happen to love my dress and veil, mine is also preserved and in a big box. I told DS he could use the material to make a christening gown for any future grandchildren. He rolled his eyes at me.

I know, I look at what is offered...photography might be my downfall!

I might mention something like that to DS - but I might get the same reaction:rolleyes1.

Ok-- kitten pics--

So cute - you might get me wanting a kitten again! I just hate to leave them when we vacation, and we are gone fairly often - although it has slowed down with DS doing sports in HS now. And I still want one like my Tasch was. She only made it up to 7 pounds, so she was still nice and tiny even fully grown. I suspect she was the runt of the litter, but I loved that she wasn't a big ol' cat:cat:.

Question of the DayWho is your favorite character?

Mine favorite character is Bambi - unfortunately he does not show up in the parks (can't imagine how they would do that). Hard to find him in much of anything really . I would love to have a picture of us with Snow White and the dwarfs. Been to two MNSSHP, but never got around to doing that - I guess I will have to go again ;)!

Don't have any pictures except DH with Eeyore, and some taken at Chef Mickey's - mostly DS and his friends, but there is one with myself and DS and Mickey. Dislike standing in line to see characters, always on my way to do something else.

:eek::mad::sad1::scared:
Things just can't seem to go smoothly in my life these days. Brian abruptly lost his job last night! He is so upset and stressed. He just came to bed about an hour ago up trying to make contacts, update his resume and try and make it so we can still get our email. It's too late to cancel our trip at this point and I think it would kill us to have to do that. I contacted a former co-worker of his right away who texted him and he will hopefully be able to talk with tomorrow. He is in a training all day tomorrow. He isn't getting paid tomorrow and is owed a ton of vacation/comp time, etc. He just doesn't know what to do. He is totally beside himself right now and just can't be comforted. He'll be contacting unemployment office today and the guy in charge is contacting the AG's office to see what can be done to get paid.
This couldn't come at a worse time! Hopefully he will make some strong contacts today. He did have someone on FB tell him to contact him as he may have something for him as they are firing someone else. Brian doesn't have the exact knowledge of computer stuff but the guy said that he would worry about that another time!

:hug:So sorry about this!

Jen did post about her DD condition and basically (trying to remember here), it was a pre-existing heart defect from birth that hadn't fully healed up yet. They weren't concerned about it being more serious and it didn't seem like it was going to require anything other than continued monitoring.

Guess I'll eat and then wake DD. It is her first day of summer vacation.... not sure WHY she wanted to get up early and go to the Y!:confused3

Too many Jen's here! I meant the Jen from the last challenge. There was an issue with her DS, and she had to drop the challenge. She went by jenanderson. Always hoped things had gone OK.

DS started up on Monday, his last finals had been on Friday. Got all A's, except German. He started running, is slowly working his way up. Using an app on his phone to track himself, see how far he runs and his pace and whatnot. I can see the maps when he gets back, he covers a lot of territory! Cross Country informal conditioning starts July, a group of them just gets together and runs and then training starts in August. I do prefer him running with a group, and it gives him something to set his pace against.

Hello everyone! I’m just wanted to jump on and introduce myself. I’m Beth 32 and from SC. I’m finally in the right mind set to start losing weight and thought this might be something good to help me on my journey to a healthier me.

:cheer2:Welcome!

Hi all,
Gone through a full range of emotions today! Thought for awhile that our health insurance had been canceled at the beginning of the month which meant we would have been liable for Izzie's surgery and ER visit! But, someone in the AGs office put some fear into the owners about what would happen if they didn't own up and change things.
So, update! Brian will get paid tomorrow and will get his 4 weeks of vacation time. He will also be going into the office! Probably won't get his comp time though. They will also be keeping our health insurance until the end of the month. It will be interesting being in FL for the first 5 days of July without insurance apparently.
Brian made several contacts today and got his resume out there today. He is on LinkedIn. Facebook was amazing today with all of our friends trying to help us out! It made us both feel a little bit more optimistic! Brian hasn't slept in over a day. He came to bed for awhile but never got to sleep. I think we're heading to bed soon. I only got about 3 hours last night.

I would look into Cobra - it costs a bit, but you can extend your coverage for up to 18 months, but you can do it for as long as you need it. How long will he be going to the office? Or just that day to get his stuff together? Glad the networks are working! Good luck!

QOTD Friday June 16, 2012
What is the hidden gem that makes you unique?

I love those mosaics. You got some wonderful pictures of them!

I'm not sure what make me unique...I'm just me! The people I love, the things I like to do, what I have done have all come together to make me. That is kind of how I look at it. My interests come and go, hobbies wax and wane, but they all make me me.

Personality wise, I am empathic and a good listener, and always work hard to help someone out.

Well, time to get to work. Today I am wearing pants with a broken zipper! Covered by a long shirt. I love these pants and won't let a broken zipper stop me from wearing them:lmao:

I have a couple of jeans like that, they have some holes higher up, but I just wear a long shirt! We have tried to mend them, but they are the very light-weight cotton and don't take well to mending. So I wash them on delicate and wear them once in a while, I love the way they feel.

Plus, they were the first size 12 jeans I bought after I lost all that weight - that make them even more special!

I officially made it to the single digits!!! 209.2!!! I was 265 this time last year so I am so excited!!

:cheer2:Congrats! Almost to ONE-derland!

Alan went this morning and dropped paperwork off for my dr. They need to fax my records to the specialist before Monday. Then he went and faxed all the "FIRST TIME PATIENT PACKET" to the specialist. Everything is ready to go for Monday. :woohoo: Now, I just have to keep myself busy this weekend and not think about it.

Great deal on a really nice car! I did not like leaving my T-top Firebird behind for a mini van when we had DS, but I really like our van now (on our 2nd one), holds a lot and I like being up high when stuck in traffic instead of hunkered down low in a sports car.

Good luck with the doctor!

QOTD June 16How in tune are you with your body and making adaptations to your plan to ensure success? If you are not seeing the results you want, what can you tweak to try and get your body better in tune?

I am fairly in tune with my body, have been so ever since being getting fertitily treatments and being pregnant. That said, cravings and motivation to exercise are what are needed. I was getting out some, but my knees started hurting alot with these symptoms I have - psychosomatic or not. I plan to see my orthopedist when I get back anyway. If this is not caused by lyme, I am having some major arthritis flare-ups.

OK since I am not seeing bigger numbers, I am thinking I need to make a change. My system unfortunately has the special ability to adapt too quickly to whatever diet/exercise I am doing so it maintains. I am batting around idea of doing WW online (don't like meetings) so that would be my tweak for the week.
Last thing: the above mentioned DS just got his FL restricted license so he is driving now :scared1: :cool1:I have never been so proud and scared at the same time. Plus sad/happy that he got license. He is growing up too fast for me.

WW online works pretty good, as long as I stick with it I do well.

Scary about DS having his license. My DS is there too, he needs to study for the test but is finding ways to put it off. He is not very motivated to get a license, not sure why...his best friend is the same way. I am going to have to push him to get one! If his cross country training has me leaving work early too often, he is going to have to get one and we will get him a safe used car so he can get to the practice sessions! Luckily he is a good student, so the insurance won't be as bad as it could be.

QOTD for Sunday June 17
We know we can not really stay young for ever, but how do you strive to stay young at heart?

DS keeps me young at heart, although he is doing less with me and more with his peers, which is how it should be; we still have times. And I like playing some of the fun role-playing hand held games that I started when he was young! And I always feel like a kid at amusement parks! And trying out new things, like the geocaching I now love. Lots of fun, goofy apps on the phone.
Once DS gets through college, I will probably retire from my current job, and maybe get a part-time job working with children again. Maybe working as a teacher's aide so I don't have to get into the lesson plans and stuff again, but just come and play with the children! Of course, when DS has kids, going to hang with them and take them to WDW!

Dona, sorry about the sore back. I am not a fan of the block schedule. We have been on it for 3years now. In 7th and 8th, we had same 8 courses all year but alternated 4 each week. Confusing and hard for BOYS to keep organized. In 9th we had 4 classes per semester. Long 90 minute classes and very fast instruction. DSactually asked his Honors Geometry teacher to slow down once and she said she couldn't, she had to go at that pace to finish the semester on time!

DS has a block schedule, but it does not sound the same. He has 8 classes, and they have an A day and a B day. They alternate classes each day, so he will have a block of 4 on A day, and the second block of 4 on B day. I actually like it, he gets one extra day to do long assignments, and classes are 90 minutes each. I like that because it gives them more time to work after they get settled, and they can do in depth labs in lab classes. What you described seems very confusing.

********************************************************

Getting a little crazy. Trying to finish up at work and maybe leave mid-week. We have a wedding in Iowa, a visit with my mom and my new niece and nephew in Wisconsin/Illinois, and then back to Iowa for a reunion. We will be on the road more than visiting...not a relaxing vacation. We get back, I work one day and then 4th of July vacation. My boss is telling me I should take Monday off - the office will be almost dead anyway - but I have so much going on, I am worried about running out of vacation time. So I haven't decided.

I wasn't feeling great either, I finally went to see the doctor:sick:. I honestly don't know if my symptoms are from the tick or just stressing trying to get stuff done. It was just the urgent care, since it is just the blood test. If it turns out to me something more, I will contact my doctor and see what they think. I caught it quick, I have heard it usually clears up without any further troubles in those cases.

DS has graduated. He did pretty well, all A's except that darn German. But he does not want to drop the German, he wants all 6 years. But he did well enough at the SOL's to earn bonuses in some of his classes. NOT looking foward to next year, when we start the college stuff. They used to have a SAT prep class he could take, budget cuts cancelled that so now we have to figure out how to prepare him to take the SAT - whether we just do the study guides or actually sign him up for classes. Which don't work well with his schedule, since it is usually on a Saturday, and he will be doing cross-country on Saturday's...:headache:

We also got together with our friends yesterday, lunch and a movie and started talking about our November trip and wondering when we can go again. We started talking about two trips senior year! One to Disney during the quiet time, and to Universal during Spring Break... Now rethinking it though - I was thinking about a trip to Grand Canyon and Yellowstone before DH left for college - I may not have enough vacation time!

Oh well. Will try and be OP for a few days, and then just try to be careful during the trip. Food will likely be sporadic and eaten at weird times, so just will have to do the best I can.

And for Father's Day, DH is rushing about stressing about suits and dry cleaning...not sure what is going on with that, I leave his wardrobe for work to him. I let him sleep in for Father's Day, may not have been a good idea!:rolleyes1

Have a great rest of the weekend!

Carol :goodvibes

Carol I'm glad you got checked!!
Make sure you take them with food, it will help keep the stomach issues down to a minimum. DS has had the best luck with bananas (not a big breakfast eater)

Happy Sunday and Happy Father's Day to all of my friends!

Sorry to be on so late in the day, but we spent the weekend at my folks, visiting, celebrating a niece's graduation, Father's day, etc. Just got home about 5pm and we made dinner and such and now to RELAX a bit!

Just an FYI for those friends who know Kathy aka Mikamah. Got a text from her today.... seems like she is doing well, just really busy. I haven't had a minute to text back, but I will in a bit.

Having some "splurge" foods today for for a special celebration ;) but did great yesterday at the graduation party and such and will be right back OP tomorrow morning! :thumbsup2

DS's last day of 8th grade tomorrow.... he doesn't have to attend, but it seems like he has decided to go ahead. DD will probably sleep late for the first time this summer and then who knows! I need a haircut (I am donating for probably the last time..... getting too gray!) and a chiropractic appointment.... plus we are HOPING to get DD into a driver's ed class that actually STARTS tomorrow (last minute thing).

DH is going away for a few days for work, DD has back-to-back home pool swim meets Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, and then DS is having a mini "end of school' bonfire party on Thursday evening. And the weekend brings yet another swim meet.... Harvard this time. AAAHHH!! This week is out of control before it even starts!

Off to check out the QOTD that I've missed.........P

I may can help!!!! I have had teh exact things! I mean I could just lay down because if I stayed up doing something I just felt very lightheaded and not really nauseous but a feeling of something's not right...sometimes on the treadmill I would have this overwhelming feeling of just not being able to finish my workout (3 miles at a time, but have been working out at 30 miles for the week)...I know in the past I have been pretty anemic, and iron pills do not work for me...but I go to the deli and get nice lean roast beef, one slice of it does the trick for me (it's like eating a vitamin really)...but even, when I tried that I still had these 'sinking' spells. So, last week, I bought Gatorade...after every workout I would put 1/2 cup of gatorade in a glass of about 2 cups of water...that did it!! I'm not sure what is in gatorade, but it must be some minerals or electrolytes that were being depleted in me...so, for now those two fixes have worked to eliminate them! Hope this helps!

I will have to try that! It's not just after workouts, but maybe this will help. I'm going to go to the doctors at some point, which I dread cause i hate my doctor, and i can't get a new one till the new insurance kicks in.

Glad to hear the job is going well.

Adjusting your exercise routine based on your body is important. Intensity and timing are key factors to consider.

Smoothies have been plaguing my mind lately too and they are not easy to find at all here. Thanks for sharing your basic recipe. I will need to give it a try.

Christopher

If you'd like to try the recipe here are the exact measurements. I cut this down from the original recipe, so it just makes one smoothie, but you would double it for more.

1-2 cups of berries depending on your prefrence
3-4 ice cubes if using fresh berries, no ice if using frozen
1 tsp vanilla extract ( i don't actually measure this, i just add a few drops, but i would think this is about how much)
1 tablespoon of honey
1/2 cup cranberry juice
1/2 cup unsweetned low fat vanilla almond milk

mix and enjoy! Simple and delicious!

Trina, the job sounds great! So you don't work at PS anymore? I missed that.
I had a short bout with vertigo once for a few weeks and it was awful. I think it came from going on a cruise.

I am still at petsmart, but cutting back on my hours and i won't be training anymore. This was a huge decision, and everyone keeps asking if it was mine which it was. We will see how it goes.

That's interesting, our cruise was a month ago, i wonder if it could still be affecting me.

----

I'm starving! My brother was supposed t make dinner for my dad for fathers day, and like anything my brother does it turned into a big problem. First he didn't even decide what to make till 5:30, then he threw a big fit because he didn't want me to go to the grocery store with him, then he had to go see his girlfriend, now it's 7:10pm and he just went to the grocery store! :headache: He's making chicken parm, which i don't think i can even eat with the dairy allergy, so i'm a bit annoyed. The issue is that he tries to do something nice but doesnt actually do it in the right way and then gets upset and it becomes all about him.

Now my parents are fighting. just a normal day in my house! :sad2:

I slept awful last night, i had such awful and vivid dreams i woke up crying. They bothered me so much that i actually called my boyfriend at 7:30 in the morning to make sure he was ok. Everything is ok now, but it was disturbing.

Ok the battery is going to die, i better run!

We know we can not really stay young for ever, but how do you strive to stay young at heart?

I stay young at heart by playing with my nephews & niece, and my love of thing disney. :) I bought some muppet band aids yesterday just because they had beaker on them :rotfl2:

I would say that I am pretty in tune with my body. I am really trying to listen to it to know whether or not I am really hungry. I think that I may need to try having more healthy snacks during the day so that I am not starving when I get home from work and am waiting until dinner time.

There are many ways that a person can try to stay young, I guess that I do it by having fun and goofing off with my DH. We love to laugh at ourselves and not take things to seriously. We do not have kids yet so we cannot use them to help us stay young. When we go to DL we love to watch the families with little ones and love to see the joy on their faces when going on a new ride or seeing a character for the first time.

Good SUnday morning everone.

Sorry I haven't been on in a couple of days. Graduation on Thursday was fine. ONe speech did border on being nasty. They talked about the amount of administration and security guards watching the bathrooms. These are good kids and what they said did have some truth to it and some people didn't like it.

No worries. It seems a lot of people have been MIA lately. We have only added 1 page since yesterday so I can tell that people are traveling, celebrating, or just in general busy. But there are enough of us around to keep things going so that when people are able there is something to come back to. I know I will be busier once school is out.....2 weeks to go!

Sometime on Thursday I hurt my lower back. I had to sit through the inservice day on Friday in pain. It also didn't help that it was the WORST inservice I have ever sat through. The low light was that they told us tea and coffee would be there when we started at 7:30. We get there and there is muffins, warm orange juice, warm water, warm aplle juice and that is that. We could have gone to a donut shop 2 minutes away but no one wanted to be late. Well adminstration never made it there until 8. Then they proceed to read their power point to us. We then met and tried to figure out how to teach in block schedule which no one had done before. It was the worst day I have ever had.

Sorry to hear about your back. I hope you are able to remedy that quickly. And even more sorry to hear about your inservice day. Sounds miserable. I am fortunate in that we do not have inservice at the end of the school year here.3 days at the beginning of the year and 3 individualy days throughout the year. And usually it is something I can make it through withoutto much boredom.

Yesterday I spent the day sewing with some friends. We were making pillow cases for kids with cancer so that was a good day.

Thanks Christopher. Peter Pan's flight is one of our favorite rides.

Things that make me feel young at heart:
playing with real cards reminds me of summer at my grandmother's house
riding my bike
water parks

and of course

going to DW.
I think that trips to any Disney park and even the planning of them is going to be high on many peoples' list. That's why we are here on the DIS right? Well at least it is something that I use to keep me young at heart.

We are going to my dsis's house today. Last year all she served was green salad and steak. My guys like steak but they need something besides steak for lunch/dinner. Even if she served rolls so they could make sandwiches would have helped. I am making pulled pork (I just put it in the crock pot) and bring it with us with some rolls. What ever is left over ds2 could take it home with him.

DS2 came home for the weekend. When I got home he told me look in the freezer. He had brought me some fresh picked blueberries that he froze because he knows I do that every summer. Got to love him.

Have a happy and healthy Father's Day. If you are going to be with your dad today enjoy being with him.

Great way to plan the alternatives so that yo can have a great day with your family where everyone is satisfied. Hope it was enjoyable.

I took this staying young thing a bit extreme :rolleyes1 I went and had a lil princess. My son was teenager and no longer wanted to play in toy stores, disney parks, or see kiddie movies. I still liked those things, plus toys and cartoons, so I made the decision to have another baby to play with. It is so much fun getting to re re experience it all over. With DS I got to do all the boy stuff, now with DD I get to do girly things. I figure by time she is too old to play with me I will have a grandbaby LOL kids are great at keeping you young.

No kids of my own here.....though I am slave to my cat at home and have over 200 students at school so I can appreciate the kids keeping you young for sure!

Good morning losers! We are up late and moving slowly at my house this morning. Everything went smoothly yesterday except the moving van tore a 15ft branch off a Bradford pear tree hanging over the driveway at the rental house. Hope it does not cause us to lose security deposit. We still bought the crew lunch and tipped them well. They did a great job otherwise and only one of them was driving;)

Thanks Rose and Buffy for the stories about your DH's...Unfortunately my DH is only 5'10 and stocky build, very muscular. I will have to follow Christopher's advice and use this for motivation.

Christopher, how do you afford anything in CH??? Such an expensive country but I bet it's great to live there. No commissaries either I guess. We had friends who could get things for us.

I have to run, the cats chewed through my IPad charger cord last night and I'm almost out of power...BBL

Shawnprincess:

It is expensive here but my salary is based on local economy so I am able to survive. I have gotten used to the idea that I am going to spend the equivalent of nearly $500 per month to feed myself alone. the healthier food is of course more expensive than the not good for you stuff.....as in the USA. For example, a packet of 2 chicken breast would cost me approximately $7.....which I never recall paying that much in the USA for chicken. Maybe things have gone up since I was shopping in the USA but I don't imagine it has gone up that much. Cheapest meat in the market is one that I can't bring myself to buy and eat.....horse. Very popular here and supposedly very lean.....but still.

QOTD: To stay young, I try to relax and go with the flow of things. I watch my kids and try to see through their eyes. Once we grow up we have so many responsibilities, it's nice to just chill a bit! And like someone else said DISNEY!!! It does a person good :rotfl:

I like the relax and go with the flow mentality. I try that and get it going most of the time and then I hit a panicpoint and have to organize myself again so I can go with the flow......hmmmm that sounds very adult so I guess that is not my way after all. I envy you that ability.:)

QOTD for Sunday June 17

We know we can not really stay young for ever, but how do you strive to stay young at heart?

I four things that keep me young at heart! My kids, add if you add their friends I have a thousand reasons to stay young. I'm the team mom for all the kids Cross Country teams, and I'm the "cool mom" so I inherit a lot of kids weekly as well. They keep me on my toes but I love it.

Quote of the day

When you discard arrogance, complexity, and a few other things that get in the way, sooner or later you will discover that simple, childlike, and mysterious secret known to some: Life is Fun!

***********************************

Not feeling so hot today. My throat doesn't hurt much anymore but my left ear hurts, my head hurts, my nose is pretty stuffed up and my chest is really congested with a rough cough. I think I will call my DR tomorrow because I suspect some kind of upper respiratory infection. They typically come on very fast for me.
Tuesday was supposed to be my official start to my Marathon training but I don't know how this will affect things.

Yes get to the doctor and get yourself sorted. We all want to hear you are better and getting that marathon training underway. It is part of your goals and aspirations so don't let sickness slow you down if the doctor can help. Keep us posted!

This is such an awesome quote, and way of life. It's so awesome that you feel this way, and you should be proud of yourself!

And congrats on the new car- it looks awesome!

Thanks Christopher! I just hope I am able to keep this very attitude all through school! But I don't think it will be too hard...expecially if I keep up the annual trips to WDW!:thumbsup2

I think I am pretty in tune with my body, especially considering where I was a year ago. I can tell when I'm tired and not feeling good, and where I think it might be coming from.

I love your quote you have given. That goes up over my desk TODAY!

Sounds like another busy person preparing for vacation.....Isn't it just awful how stressful planning some relaxation time can be. I still have not been to the Grand Canyon but remember the trip to Yellowstone when I was still in middle school very fondly. Definitely worth going to see.

Thanks for the update on Kathy. Hope she is able to get back to the boards soon.

Good luck with your wekk that does sound absolutely chock-a-block full. Here's a scooter to help you get from place to place with ease :moped:

And we hope you are able to post this week even though you are busy.

I will have to try that! It's not just after workouts, but maybe this will help. I'm going to go to the doctors at some point, which I dread cause i hate my doctor, and i can't get a new one till the new insurance kicks in.

Thanks for the detailed recipe. I will have to try it this week.

Ahh the stress of father's Day meals. I remember those too. I hope it all got sorted and you were able to enjoy some time with your Dad and family.

We know we can not really stay young for ever, but how do you strive to stay young at heart?

I stay young at heart by playing with my nephews & niece, and my love of thing disney. :) I bought some muppet band aids yesterday just because they had beaker on them :rotfl2:

I wore my Kermit the frog shirt yeterday and thought nothing of it until I saw people looking at me funny on the bus......I guess that our kid at heart comes through sometimes in simple ways we do not even realize.

I would say that I am pretty in tune with my body. I am really trying to listen to it to know whether or not I am really hungry. I think that I may need to try having more healthy snacks during the day so that I am not starving when I get home from work and am waiting until dinner time.

Healthy snacks and laughter.......a killer combination for success in this challenge! Way to go!

°°°°°°°°°°°°
Another Monday is upon us. For me there is only 1 more after today before school lets out. We have a shorter summer break thatn in the USA but we have more extended breaks through out the year and end up with the smae basic 180 days of instruction. Other than the growing heat in the classrooms, I do not mind the schedule here. It means more opportunity for travel throughout the year which I really love.

Anyway, I need to prepare for my first class who will arrive shortly. Will be back in a bit with the QOTD....though I imagine I will stills be posting before most of you get your day going. I wish you a great Monday!!!!

QOTD for Monday June 18

Leaving Peter Pan and feeling like a child again it is time to take a boat ride into the musical world of children sharing our world. it's a small world celebrates the fact that we are all part of the same world sharing the same moon and sun, sharing the fact that a smile means friendship wherever you go, and that when we look at it the commonalities across cultures really help to show how small the world really is.

think about the fact that this attraction has it's roots in the 1964-65 World's Fair in New York which means the attraction is quickly approaching it's 50th Anniversary. In those 50 years the world has continues to get smaller as communication and technology have brought us closer together. Look at this thread for example, we have challengers from 4 countries on two sides of the world.

But these children with theie joyous song of harmony can also encourage us to look at our own small world that we have built around us--our family, friends and colleagues-- and we can ask ourselves how much do I really share with them.

In this journey to helathier living, it is important to have a support system for encouragement when times are hard and celebration when times are good. We have the DIS for the extended support, but what about in our small world?

So multi-faceted question today:Have you developed a support system in your small world away from the DIS? Is someone nearby on the journey as well? Is your family supportive or do they think it is a joke becasue you've tried this many times before? Are your friends there to help or are they enables to food and drink? Do your colleagues know you are trying to lose weight or is that a definitey area to avoid conversation at work? How are you sharing your journey within your small world?

°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
BONUS thought for the day

How can you adapt one of your favorite international food recipes to make it more friendly to your nutritional plan? Have you ever explored the high amounts of sodium and fat that are in some otherwise healthy looking international foods?

Good morning Losers!:goodvibes We are about 70% through with our move. Still have a few loads of (junk!) at the old house and need to get it cleaned out and need to get organized at the new house. We will get there.

We had a nice Father's Day, went to IHop and I had a spinach omelet that was supposed to only have 330 calories. My tummy felt like it was more.

Christopher, that is great your salary is adjusted for the economy there. That is quite high for chicken.

Buffy, hope you are feeling better today.

Pamela, thanks for the update on Kathy, I have been wondering where she is.

Hello to everyone else. Make it a great Monday.

QOTD, I have a pretty good support system in place. My family does somethimes not take me seriously because I have does this so many times. I have learned which friends are more supportive than others. And this board is the BEST support system I have found even though I don't really "know" you all;) I believe everyone I know knows I am trying to lose weight although I am sure they wonder sometimes what I am doing when I put it back on:rolleyes1

I guess my favorite Int'l food would be MEXICAN !!!! Although that is such a staple in America now. You really have to watch the cheese in Mexican. Adding more spices, more pico de gallo instead of cheese cuts a lot of fat. Also we mix black beans with the gound beef in tacos to cut fat there. I loved the Texas Caviar recipe LMHall posted a few days ago. I am bad to not watch my sodium, should do better with that....

Time to get to work.................Have a great day ALL

I've got my cousin/roommate and my other cousin's husband in my support group. We are all 3 wanting to lose weight and change our whole outlook on health. A few of my coworkers know the others don't and my family will support me.

The recipe I would love to hear what everyone comes up with. This is week 1 for me so I've got to figure some new ones out.

Good morning all! :goodvibes

Catching up on the QOTD here. I'm loving all your questions, Christopher, and reading along, even if I am not posting. Summer challenges are little more relaxed, people popping in and out, but it is nice to know that everyone is here when you can check in. :hippie:

QOTD June 16

How in tune are you with your body and making adaptations to your plan to ensure success? If you are not seeing the results you want, what can you tweak to try and get your body better in tune?

I am reasonably in tune with my body but it does still surprise me at time with wild weight fluctuations. I'm pretty adept at being happy with things as long as the trend is down. I also find that being off plan isn't as fun as I remembered so I have an easier time staying ON plan. :goodvibes

Shawn, hope the move continues to go smoothly. :welcome: home!

P.S. Do not compare yourself to others, even DH's.

Buffy, hope the doctor can give you some meds so you can kick this bug. :flower3: Maybe pick up a bit of yogurt if you get antibiotics so you can keep your tummy in balance.

Jill, glad your DS is feeling better! :thumbsup2

Trina, hope you are feeling better now, too! :flower3:

QOTD for Sunday June 17We know we can not really stay young for ever, but how do you strive to stay young at heart?

DS will be 13 in a couple of weeks. He is very good at keeping his Mom in the 21st century . . . as he likes to put it. :rotfl2:

Dona, hope that your back is feeling better. :flower3:

Carol, hope you are feeling better soon, too. :flower3: You may want to get some yogurt, too.

A local support system is something that I lack but I love my online support system. That is probably the number one reason that I have been successful since starting WISH and not successful all the years that led up to it. DH is supportive but it tends to be more in spirit. I don't talk about it at work at all because really people want to discuss their problems -- no one goes to their lawyer to hear about the lawyer's problems. :hippie:

BONUS thought for the day

How can you adapt one of your favorite international food recipes to make it more friendly to your nutritional plan? Have you ever explored the high amounts of sodium and fat that are in some otherwise healthy looking international foods?

My preferred method of adaptation is to make no adjustments to the actual recipe itself but rather "plan" for it by having conserving calories at another meal or adding in a workout or activity of some sort. I don't watch sodium or fat as much as I should. That is one of those "some day" things. :rolleyes1

Have a great day all!

Catching up on QOTDs here, too!

Tweaking: As I've started changing my exercise habits (much more frequent, now running, adding interval training workouts (thanks, Jillian), I've found that I have to be much more attentive to the way my body reacts to these. At first, I went a little crazy in an effort to really dive in - as I got sore and beat, I realized I needed to build in better breaks and days off, especially for running. Now that I've done that, I notice better endurance and stamina...and that I'm really looking forward to my run days! On a more micro level, I know I'll have to tweak my routines a bunch on our upcoming vacation - food intake will definitely be up, and I'll be out of my exercise routine. I'm hoping to still run a few times a week while we're away (Castaway Cay 5K!), asking our AKL concierge about good run routes around that resort when we check in.

Staying Young at Heart: My daughters do it (even as they totally wipe me out!). Their enthusiasm and energy is infectious, and I try to remind myself to see the world as they do, wide open and full of possibilities instead of full of obstacles. And I'd be lying if I said Disney doesn't keep me young. DH and I go for long weekends without the girls, too, and I don't think I've ever felt as old as I am when we're there. :)

Support: I am really lucky. Besides the wonderful people here, I have a great WW group at work. DH is also very supportive, and I know I've inspired him to eat better and start exercising again, too. That's a great motivator! I stopped hiding my weight loss efforts ages ago, and I'm much more open to compliments about my weight loss now, which opens up conversations about healthy habits, etc.

We're on the final run toward vacation this week! I've started putting the pack piles in their proper places (pre-cruise night stay, cruise/AKL bags, the bag to stay in the car, the bag we'll need when we get on the Dream - ack!). School is OUT  so the week is much easier with regard to getting the girls up and out. I work through Thursday. I'll pack the car with the big stuff after the girls go to bed on Thursday night. Then I'll sleep Thursday night until about 2pm Friday, at which point I'll finish packing the car. Then DH and I will go pick up the girls and surprise them with their first ever Disney cruise! I cannot believe we've managed to keep this a secret for over a year. It's exhausting. :lmao: Especially when DD7 tells us how BADLY she wants to go on a Disney cruise and it looks like SO much fun and MOMMY can we PLEASE go on one SOON? They're going to flip out. Hopefully we'll get good video...

Happy Monday, everyone!

XO

Quote of the Day

Remember, we all stumble, every one of us. That’s why it’s a comfort to go hand in hand.

I have the DIS for support. And my kids, especially DS15. DH is neutral.
Don't have co-workers, haven't said a thing to friends. They are all pretty sedentary people so they are not a positive influence.

Bonus:
I would love a better recipe for Bistro de Paris's butternut squash soup. French food, while fabulous, is bad for the waistline. But I'm not sure if it would be the same without the heavy cream and butter.

*******************************

Christopher thanks for support, you made me cry!
Everyone else thank you for your kind words!

I am on the way to the Dr at 1:15. As much as I call the office they didn't even recognize my voice so she's squeezing me in.
I hope it's just a cold, but the coughing is getting worse so I want to see the DR just in case.

I hope everyone has a great day! My weight was good this morning. I'll be interested to see if what the Dr's scale says in comparison. And to see what he says, I haven't been to the Dr for myself since I've kicked the journey into overdrive in January.

OK must go to the grocery store. We are out of bread and that's a bad thing in this house!!

TTYL!

Man, did I kill the thread?!?!?

so I went to the DR and I have bronchitis and a sinus infection. Oh the joy!
So I got the Z-pac which I know works well.

We also briefly talked about the marathon. He recommended the 1/2 instead of the full. He's worried about injuries and if I get hurt then I would be turned off by running again. I don't know, we'll see what happens with training.

Well crap, I just looked and the marathon is 57% full and the half is 51% full so I guess I need to decide sooner rather than later.

I need to talk to DH and see if he even wants to do it. Or I may just go solo. I don't really want to go solo but I will.

Today was supposed to be the first day of training for the full with a cross training session. I think I will attempt to do Walk away the Pounds for 30 minutes and see how it goes. I'll just schlep a breathe right strip on before I do anything.

Ugh, feeling a little deflated today. I need to go do something positive!

OK, I'll be back!

Glad to hear you have a diagnosis and some medication to sort it out.

Takje a look at what your goal is for the marathon vs 1/2 marathon. Do you want to run the entire thing or is your goal to finish and get the medal? The difference is not only physical but also mental. I have done 3 marathons all at either a fast walk or mixture of jog and walk. If you get yourself mentally prepared along with physically, I imagine you could handle the full. If you really want to do the full, I am sure you will train properly and carefully to succeed. I wish I could do it with you but it falls to far into the month this year and I will already be back to school for a full week by the time that weekend comes along.

Wish you could join us Christopher, there will be a bunch of WISH'ers there, someday you'll be there!
My goal for either race is to just finish in time to get a medal. And I will do run/walk intervals.
I think mentally I can do either, the physical part is what's tough. I still have quite a bit of weight to lose and I'm not sure how much stamina I can build between now and then.
I don't want to attempt the full and get 1/2 way and not medal, you know.
Maybe I'm just putting to my pressure on myself to attempt the full considering I've done a handful of 5K's and that's it. But I really want a 20th anniversary medal with our 20th wedding anniversary being the same year.

ACK, I don't know!

Liz- I can't wait to hear about their reaction to the cruise! Looking forward to meeting you guys on Sunday!

If one more stressful thing happens before the cruise I think I will need scream! Spent 3 1/2 hours in the ER with my dad again. He had an episode while we were shopping and I thought he was having a stroke. 5 minutes later he was fine! He has a slow heartbeat which was the reason he went to the ER from the store we were in. He hadn't eaten much this morning or much to drink. The doctor thinks it might be a bit of narcolepsy as well. He had a sleep study a few years back and the doctor thinks he should have another.

Ash is at soccer evaluations for the fall! Tomorrow I have 3 clients and then dress rehearsal for the recital at 4. Wednesday is my mom's birthday and we are going out to eat. Good thing since it's supposed to be 98 degrees! Thursday I have to take Izzie to a follow-up doctor's appt for her ear and then give 5 massages throughout the day. It's supposed to be 98 that day as well. Friday I have 3 clients (90 degrees) and finalize packing! Saturday will be a very crazy day with the recital and then coming home to get the girls cleaned up. The limo comes at 6 and our flight is at 9pm.

Need to go to bed early tonight so I can make it through tomorrow. I did ok for eating today. They brought my mom and me a sandwich, salad and soup at the hospital while we waited to see the doctor. I had a peppermint patty and then had 2 soft turkey tacos for supper. My stomach is growling right now. I think I'll go and pour some water and try and relax before getting Ash at 8:15!

Pray that I make it through the next 5 days with no more stress!

TTFN :tigger:

I don't think I have ever been so busy. I'm sad that I'm missing out on my DISworld. Don't fear, I will be here everyday to coach next week.

In my world...my new job is great, I'm really loving it, but it's keeping me very busy. I work a lot with our community and I surprisingly like it. I'm generally quiet and shy, but I like helping people. Add that together with all the books I'm reading, my races in the next few weeks, hanging out with friends and my photography on the side. Not much time for DISing. I hope you can all forgive me and I hope that you are all doing okay.

QOTD: My family knows and they support me. They don't always get it, but they support me. My bff knows and I'm trying to get her into more physical activity (like our 5k next week) but she's supportive. For the most part it is DIS though!

Well... I've decided to apply in January for the Fall '13 DCP as a photopass photographer. Emailed my college advisor to get everything laid out. I'm excited! Now...time to edit some more photos!
