Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

Hey all! :) First off, Tracy so sorry about your friend's loss! :hug: and prayers to all. I can't imagine how difficult that must be.

Went to church this morning, which was great! Then we had cracker barrel for lunch, which, as yummy as it was, did not agree with my tummy! I think my body has gotten used to eating a little healthier and it didn't like that I took a little break! Lesson learned, that is for sure! Anyway, we are about to go tackle the kids play/school room. Hoping to go for a run if it cools off this evening.

QOTD - My me time usually consists of a good book and a quiet room. I also love the occasional bubble bath! :) I am in the middle of the kingdom keepers series right now...I know, I know, it is for kids, but I love it! :) I love that it is based in Disney...so much fun!!

Have a great day all!!

Shawn! Shawn! Shawn! :yay: :yay: :yay: It is so nice to see you! :flower3:

Is school out in your neck of the woods yet? We have 3 days of finals to get through and then we are done for the summer. :cool2:

It will be so nice to chat with you more again! :goodvibe

We are OUT !! :banana::banana::cool2::banana::banana: Finished exams June 5th, saw the final grades posted online, 9th grade is OVER! I have so much more time now, was driving DS to *8* activities per week. That was in addition to school and games on the weekends. Looking forward to chatting more with you and everyone else too:hippie: I have really missed it. It sounds like you sold your office? Congrats!

Tracy, hope Izzie is feeling better. My friend went into hospital for a routine procedure, caught an infection and was admitted for 18 days! I have been so worried about her. She finally came home yesterday.

Shawnprincess:

Tracey: My thoughts are with your friends. :hug:

Hope Izzie is doing better!

Not much new here. I have made a good sized dent in my statistics homework. I'm done with 4 out of the 8 problem sets. It is optional to do, but I do so much better in math if I practice and we have 3 tests plus a final so...My goal is to finish 5 before dinner and then 6 tomorrow. I will do 7 and 8 between work and class on Tuesday afternoon. 7 and 8 are review problems from 1-6 so they should be easy. I hope.

QOTD: My me time is when I exercise and when I Dis. I also enjoy shopping-without my mother. She came grocery shopping today. No comment. :rolleyes1 I went to Kohl's this afternoon and found it very relaxing. I especially enjoyed not being criticized about my weight. ;) I also went to Wal-Mart. Shopping there always seems like a task, but today not so much. I honestly find shopping by myself so enjoyable. Great QOTD!

CC -- I feel your pain right now. I had to take statistics for my Bachelor's degree and OMG I have no clue how I managed to pass that class, :lmao:

Thanks! I'm most nervous about completing homework (optional or not) between when class ends on Tuesday night and when class starts on Thursday night. :scared1:

QOTD Thursday, June 7, 2012: Is there something that you dream of doing just for you? If you feel comfortable, please share or just share how you feel at the end of the first week of the challenge.

This is my honest answer. No dreams right now. The ones I had (and there were a lot of them) were all smashed about 3 weeks ago when I found out fiance cheated on me. So no more him, just me and my kids. Now trying to find new dreams. Until then I am in the "just keep swimming" stage. I can be polite and say I exercise to be a healthy and more active mom with my kids, and it is true, but reality is I am here and working out, because I don't have any idea what to do now. So maybe by time I figure it out, I can be a bit healthier and look better.

I am still reading old posts and catching up. Just had to comment on this post. I am so sorry this happened to you but I hope that as time passes you will see that no one can take your dreams away from you. Maybe you had plans and hopes of things in the future for the two of you, but there is no reason you can't achieve and have everything you've ever dreamed of by yourself. I think love will come your way again and you will find someone worthy of you:goodvibes

Today is the start of the European Soccer Championships. I am not really a soccer fan except at tournament time. I just have to ensure that my exercise time does not get compromised by match watching. And will keep the snacking during the matches on the healthy side......no beer! :drinking1

This is HUGE at my house. When we lived in Germany, I loved all the excitement of World Cup Soccer, the flags out, the horns honking, no traffic or pedestrians out because everyone was watching games. Heck, they even showed the games at DS school in the auditorium if Germany was playing!
Does Switzerland have a National team? Are they in the Euro 2012 championships? Guess I could google that!

I LOVE the Kingdom Keepers books!! It's so funny because I bought the first one for my 10 year old son, but ended up reading it myself and trying to talk my kids (10 & 12) into reading it. Then I read the others and when the last one came out I didn't expect to find it at the library any time soon, but my daughter found it and ran to me all excited!! haha!! So, neither of them have read the series, but they know how much I love it. :rotfl2:

QOTD Thursday, June 7, 2012: Is there something that you dream of doing just for you? If you feel comfortable, please share or just share how you feel at the end of the first week of the challenge.

I would love to go back to college. Not to further my career or anything like that, but just to learn about things I have an interest in. However, right now with work and family, my plate (and brain) is just too full to be of any good. I would love to have the wherewithall to go back to school without worrying about work. But I'm also in my 50's - a little more forgetful then I was the last time I went to college!

I will probably take some fun community college courses once we get DS off to his own college.

Dh is going camping this weekend so I can eat whatever I want. I love weekends like this.
I found out yesterday that I am working for 5 weeks this summer doing AP prep classes for calculus. The money will help with getting ready for DW.
I love those weekends too. I can live on all the salad and stuff I want to eat without worrying about the spaghetti and heavy meats the family wants!

Prep classes for calculus...right now DS is starting his first round of AP courses for his junior year and brought home some stuff to do during the summer. Boy, if he needs to go to classes next summer before his AP Calculus he will flip! Not sure if they have that out by us.

My DH and oldest DS have a plan to save up all our change during the next 4 yrs while he is in HS and then go to Europe for his graduation....IF (and that is a BIG if) we accomplish this...I want to do Disney Paris!!

We were planning a trip to Germany, Austria and Norway for DS graduation. A chance to visit our old stomping grounds. However, there is a family reunion the year he graduates, so we have moved it to the summer after his first year in college. I was thinking about a side trip to Paris, everyone should see that once, but not sure if we will have time for Disney...so much to fit in, and so little time!

Hope you got a great night's sleep! Hope the trip works out for you this summer.

You mentioned the WW leaders not liking what you eat...as long as you are healthy and losing or maintaining, you are doing a good job! I like doing it online - no one looking over my shoulder...

Well, I have a lot of dreams. My short-term one right now is to apply for the Disney college program in January for Fall 2013 as a photopass photographer and work in WDW for 6 months. I'm a graphics, photography major so I think it'd definitely help.
After being at Disney for so long I was immersed in Disney's belief that anything was possible. I finally got to see One Man's Dream movie at DHS and was so inspired. I've read Walt Disney books and watched movies but being there made a ton of diffeence. We took the keys to the kingdom tour which was great.

My son is totally into photography, and I should mention that college program as a photopass photographer. He is not really into taking pictures of people, but he could snap a few others while he is there. I have read about the college program, followed someones blog who was into it, and it sounded awesome. Wish I was still young and in college, I would apply so fast!

I love reading about Walt Disney and loved One Man's Dream. I was the only one in my group that went, the others went to ride Star Tours. It was great, and they found me watching the movie. We had to leave right after, so they could not look around, but was very interested in what they saw. We'll need to go by again. Would love to take the Keys to the Kingdom tour, probably when DH and I go on our own someday.

Not really weight related, but Disboard related!! I read about the ticket price increase last Saturday night. Jumped onto UndercoverTourist to purchase my tickets. Just looked, saved $170!!! That that's a big Woo Hoo for the vacation budget!!!
I would love to go on one of the Adventure's by Disney - the one I really want to go on is the trip to Africa!!!

I did the same, but did not check to see how much I saved doing that. I should take a look.
There are so many ABD trips I would love to take! So expensive, but then I start pricing some of them out, and they are about the same as a Disney with a stay in a deluxe. But then there is meals and souveniors!

PAMELA -- I'm always amazed at how much you and Tracey have to do during the day. It makes me tired just reading about it. :rotfl:
But out of all of these I want another baby. I can't even put into words how bad I want this. I miss Maddie every day. :littleangel:
I finally did however make some progress with the whole medical issue I've been dealing with. My doctor told me almost 2 weeks ago she thought I had PCOS (by looking at old test results my old GYNO did in TX). She referred me out to a reproductive endocrinologist. The closest one to my house was 30 miles and after calling their office 3 times over the course of the last week and a half NO ONE has gotten back to me. :mad:
I finally took the advice of a friend and called Tricare (military insurance) and complained and asked to be referred to someone else. The lady was very helpful and told me to go on the website and find a new RE, make an apt, call back and give the info to Tricare so they could change the referral. After a few minutes of helping me navigate through the website I found one.
The only problem? The closest one to my house is over 70 miles away (one way) in Tampa! OYE!! After talking with Alan and one of my friends whose also having fertility issues I've decided I'm calling the office in Tampa on Monday. Yes, I may have to drive over 100 miles RT but I want a diagnosis. I want to know what's wrong and get this ball rolling. I'll keep everyone posted and hopefully this office can help me. I did some googling and found the doctor's office and found out that she is the number 1 rated fertility specialist in the state. Fingers crossed that this works.

I can't imagine doing that much in a day either! That sounds rougher than going into work - and they say SAH don't work? Hah! I think very often they work harder than I do.
:hug:on missing your little girl. I hope this works out for you. The driving back and forth will be totally worth it if everything is resolved and you are successful. When working with my infertility, I had to drive 50 miles RT in Washington DC rush-hour traffic. But my DS is so totally worth it.
A old boss of mine had PCOS; last I heard she had two kids and was thinking about a third. I'm glad you found someone highly rated.

Question of the Day
What is your favorite ride? YOu can answer for more than one park.

MK is a tie between BTMRR and Haunted Mansion.
Epcot is Soarin'.
Animal Kingdom in Expedition Everest.
HS is another tie between TSM (which I barely ever get to ride) and RnR.

I like fast rides, our last trip was mostly dedicated to Universal, and that was great. Unfortunately, I missed the Hulk, I got sick and decided it was not a good idea to go on it in my condition. We did FJ at WWoHP about 6 times though!

Missed BTMRR last time, when we stopped by at Disney during our Univ trip. So glad it is open again!

I used to work there and never tired of walking the belts and staring blankly into peoples faces as they entered. Ahhhh the ghoul ol' days.

Didn't know you used to work at WDW! That would be a cool attraction to work in! But I might have giggling fit in the middle of staring blankly - so much for keeping in character! Sounds like you had good times there as well.

Our manager started her vacation yesterday for 10 days and left with a message that she was resigning :eek: her last day with us in 7/8...really kinda pissed as she was given the role over me without anyone knowing they were creating the position and I told the director my thoughts since she had job jumped within the organiztion 3 times in about 7 mths....guess I get to say "I told you so"
NOW they are going to post the position which I am nervous about because there are at least 2 others that want the position and sometimes leadership makes decisions for the wrong reasons and I am afraid that is going to happen here. Guess we will wait and see but going to be a stressful summer!

Good luck - maybe since you had mentioned that to the director, they will look at you next! Our leadership makes some very odd decisions too...but I am just staying where I am. I'm not up to playing the political games that sometimes goes on.

First off, you all talk too much! :rotfl: Miss a day and it takes hours to catch up!

I agree - and unfortunately I tend to miss a few days at a time! I'll be glad when it slows down at work and I can get on more often.

Good day today, just busy. DS11 got a positive diagnosis for Lyme Disease so I dropped the little kids off at school, took DS15 to school late (no exam 1st period so he didn't have to be there early), ran up to the DR got the scripts, ran back to Target dropped those off, got DS15 at noon, ran 3 miles at the green, got the little kids, back up to Target for the scripts and lunch at Panera, now I'm home.
I'm tired!!!
Rose I think he might have had it for a few years and just hasn't had symptoms or ones you can put off on something else. Right now it's just swollen knees. We thought it was growing pains but when they didn't go away I asked for an ortho referral. Dr decided we'll do the referral but just in case, let's test for Lyme.
Now DS15 had a high fever for 3 days and joint pain last week, saw the other DR in the office and he took the wait and see approach. So when my Dr got back in the office and did the test for DS11 I talked to them about testing DS15. He goes in for a blood draw Monday. DS11 has to take an antibiotic for 30 days, them hopefully he will be ok.

Wow, that is scary. Hope he responds well and the course of antibiotics takes care of it. We had a bad problem with Lyme disease in my county. After our walk in the woods last week, I saw a tick on DS shirt and we killed that, but then found one on my butt a few days later! It wasn't there the day we went for a walk, and not for a couple days thereafter, and oddly enough did not feel it when I took my showers, although it might have been smaller then. We think it was on me or DS, fell into the couch and then a couple days later made it's way on me while I was sitting on the couch. Have him in a baggie in the freezer, will call out local health dept to find out what to do, and see if Lyme is still as rampant. If I have to take antibiotics, probably the sooner the better. But not sure what they will want me to do, since it doesn't show up in the blood tests for awhile. I will have to see if there is any repellent to take care of ticks, I really like walking there.

Well I am sitting in my ER awaiting heart echo results on my 13 yr old DS who passed out today :sick: All the other tests are fine but they want a pediatric cardiologist to look at the echo and she can't until after 6....so we wait! Have been here for 5+ hrs already and she is going nuts!! Have plugged her in to all the electronics I can ;) and she is still driving my crazy!

Hoping your DS is OK, that would be scary. Better safe than sorry, figure out exactly what it was.

DD won a GREAT award last night!! DISTINCTION in AP Chemistry! SUPER, DUPER proud of her! She was afraid it was "just" going to be a gym award (although I told her I'd be proud of that as well). And despite getting started late, the ceremony wasn't painfully long. It was supposed to start at 7:30 but didn't actually start until about 8:05 pm.... but we were out of there by 9:15 pm.

Congrats to your DD! That is awesome! Hope DS does as well this coming year. They don't do award ceremonies at the schools anymore, only for the seniors. He got some stuff, but it is handed out in class. Not sure why, you'd think they could streamline it so they could all be in it. I will be there for senior though, will be sure not to miss that one. His last award ceremony I missed, he forgot to tell me about it (he wasn't there either), and he received the award for being in the state finals for the NG Geography Bee. I would have loved for us to be there for that one.

My oldest son is a Chemistry Geek! He is going to Penn State for Chemical Engineering. If she just finished taking AP Chem, you might want her to take the SAT specialty test for Chem. This test along with my son's AP score got him out of his first two chemistry classes in college. :)

I am going to encourage DS to take the tests. I keep on telling him that it will save him time, he can get to the good stuff and skip the other classes if he passes the test. He never had chem until this year, and wanted to do AP next year. He is interested in engineering as well - he wants to be a rocket scientist ;)! Penn State is one I am encouraging him to look at, as well as some of our local ones. And he is going to apply to MIT, but he has a German grade that is dragging him down, but he doesn't want to give up on it.

27 years ago today DS and I said I do!! I can't believe that much time has gone by!!! (I know what your thinking - Yes I am about 3 inches taller)

Wow, 27 years! Congrats! DH and I were married 32 years ago this September. I love your dress! I know you said it looks dated, but it is pretty and that is what we were wearing back then. My dress was saved and packed away, waiting for the daughter that didn't come along - I'll let DS decided what to do with it after I'm gone.

Question of the Day Giraffe's love to eat leaves. Doctors say we should be eating 9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. How many are you eating? What are your favorite fruits? What are your favorite vegetable? Do you cook any in a special way that you can tell us about?

I love fruits and veges, but (esp veggies) are a hassle to prepare when you are in a hurry. I have eight on my WW tracker which I usually fill up. I have blueberries in the morning with my oatmeal, banana for mid-morning, a few servings of carrots in the afternoon. A soup I like has two servings, and I always have one or two in the evening, along with maybe some berries, which is usually a couple of servings. I like roasted veges too, and some days have a huge salad for a meal with all sorts of salad veggies, with just a touch of dressing. It is so big it absolutely fills me up.

Have trouble with apples, since if I eat one I feel more hungry - very frustrating since it is such a healthy fruit. And I hate peeling oranges, even though I love the taste!

CAROL is who I was trying to think of in earlier post (OSUGRAD) - I am similar in age and family to LisaH, Janis and CAROL :)
Nuremburg - how cool ! I lived in Stuttgart for 2 years and went to the Nuremburg Cmas Market one December. Wish we had gone back and done some other tours there. Very historical city. Sind sie Deutsche or are you American? You will love this group. Welcome and good luck! Looking forward to reading your posts!

I think we discussed Germany a couple challenges ago! PS, I am ougrad - OSU in our nemisis ;). A lot of people get that messed up, thinking Ohio State or Oklahoma State - I graduated from the University of Oklahoma - and am a rapid Oklahoma Sooners football fan!

Great to meet someone who knows my home town! I am German and a Disney fan - so that brought me to a mainly American board... :goodvibes
It is amazing that I have actually met quite a few people here on the DIS who have been to Nuremberg - I even met a few DISers when they happened to travel here. It's always great fun to see my internet friends in person! :thumbsup2

I lived in Germany for a couple of years back in the 80's, my DH was stationed at a little place called Hessich-Oldendorf, about 30 klicks from Hanover. Loved our time there, would go back to live there in a heartbeat, although I imagine it has changed some.

Having a rough night. Got an email about a friend who lost her baby today. She was only 3 weeks away from delivering their little boy. She went to the doctor as he wasn't moving and found no heartbeat. She delivered him this morning and the cord was wrapped around his neck. I am just totally devastated for them. Her daughter is in Izzie's class and she has been a big help with Izzie this year. I was with her all yesterday afternoon at Carnival Day at school. She seemed good. I just can't stop crying tonight. I remember saying to Izzie yesterday that we would get to meet her friend's brother when we got back from Disney. I noticed a lot of cars at the house this morning and thought they must be having a party. She is coming home tonight or tomorrow and they will tell their two little girls. They were so excited for the baby. My heart is just breaking for them tonight. Please put Jen, Todd, Julia and Lena in your prayers! They are a real sweet family.

So sorry for their family. It is heartbreaking. They are in my thoughts and prayers.

Question of the DayAll these guys say MINE MINE MINE. We as women and mothers here this all the time from other people and we are always pleasing other people.
What do you do for your MINE time?

MINE time - usually reading a book or on the computer or my iPhone. Saturday mornings I usually wake up before anyone else, and catch up on all the shows DH doesn't like that I DVR'd. That sometimes take two morning, luckily DH sleeps late on weekends when he can.

Today started off with a trip to the ER for Izzie. Her ear started bleeding this morning around 7:30. We think it was infected as the swelling had increased again. The dr drained more from it and we have to try and make an appointment with the plastic surgeon or an assistant in the next 2 days. I know he's in surgery tomorrow and in Boston on Tuesday so this could be a challenge especially since I'm supposed to work all day on Tuesday. It never ends. I talked to my co-worker who is going to tell the boss for me to prepare her in case I can't be there. My family comes first and we can reschedule the massages for another day. We were back home by 11:30. It hurt a lot despite the medication they gave her. Lots of screaming and crying. They finally gave her motrin which kicked in about 15 minutes later. She has her ear wrapped in gauze.

Hope Izzy is feeling better soon. I feel for you trying to take off work during a really busy time. It is crazy that I feel guilty if I do, but family comes first with me too. And stuff happens.

*********************************************************

Really busy crazy week at work, but good on the diet front. I stayed OP, tracked and was very careful. So far I turned down donuts, sundaes and chinese food. But it paid off! Overslept Friday so couldn't weigh myself, yesterday morning was 6 pounds! Gotta love the first week after a break! I started out above where I had started my last challenge, and it just fell off! I know it will slow down after this, but that is a great feeling! I have been dancing around all weekend! Splurged Thursday and today on milk duds when we went to the movies, but drank water instead of the slurpees.

Movies again next weekend with friends, and lunch with that, so will need to be absolutely good until then Going to Eggspectation, never have been. I have seen it on expense reports, and seems very popular.

Looks like our trip is a go. So excited to see my new niece and nephew, another nephews wedding and a family reunion. Going to be a crazy trip though. Lots of driving to make all the events. Need to make it their though, spend some time with DMIL. During the fall challenge, she lost two of her siblings in the space of one week. I fell apart during that, and did not do very well the rest of the challenge. This week, her third sibling passed away. It is her three older siblings and she is the next one in age. Her younger brother (only other sibling left) is undergoing treatment for cancer, although they think it might be OK now. But I think she is probably feeling a little scared and shakey. She is much healthier than the three of them were, so that is a blessing, but she is probably thinking she is next in line...:sad1:

Work has gotten very stressful, filling in for a coworker, so even did some work at home this weekend. She is back the middle of this week, but I am crazy far behind. Will probably do some work at home next week as well, but at least it will get it done. They put off the accounting changeover to July, so that gave me some space, but of course it will just get crazy then! Will be so glad when it is over!

Need to wrap this up, send in my HH and weight and get ready for work tomorrow. Take care all!

Carol :goodvibes

Buffy--I just saw your reply about Lyme disease and the kiddos. I'm glad you are getting the test for your other son as well, I don't think it is anything to mess around with. The executive director's husband at the agency I work for had a nasty case last year. He ended up in the icu. We don't have it around here, but they had gone hiking in Indiana....He's much improved, but until they found out what it was it was a little frightening. Anyhow, I will be sending good thoughts your way for both your ds's.:goodvibes

Jen--what happened with the echo??? Did I miss it?

Have a happy and healthy day.

MK~Haunted Mansion and PofC
Epcot~Soarin and Sum of all Thrills
DHS~Toy Story Mania
AK~Kali River Rapids

But honestly, I love all the rides!

pjlla, I meant to respond earlier on your movie question and forgot! I really like Common Sense Media. Their website has great movie guides, and you can sign up for newsletters from them. I think they're doing great work for choosing media responsibly (and they don't stop at movies, so you can get all kinds of info on TV, games, etc. there, too).

XO
Liz

Thanks for posting this. I will be checking this out also.

I'm down 2 pounds since intial weigh in!! :banana: I'm 2.3 pounds away from ONEDERLAND :cheer2:

Whoohoo! It's SOOOOO close!

Glad they figured out what was going on and are testing DS15. 30 days of antibiotics? Geez...DS6 is on 10 days for strep and we've already forgotton 2 doses. I'd never remember 30 days worth. I guess I'd have to set my phone alarm to remind me :)

That's awesome. I keep telling DSs that it pays to be smart!

Thanks, Mary! I am now up to 25 massages in the next 14 days! I left a note that I am not to be scheduled for any more massages between now and when I leave as my body can't take more. My DH of course said that's less than 2 a day but I said there are some days when I am doing 5 massages in a row which is my maximum for a day! My boss went and booked me 2 and said that I had agreed to stay late for those which I had absolutely not done! Going to be a crazy 2 weeks with probably lots of take out! Tips were a little better today for the groupon. I have 2 non groupons tomorrow so it won't be as bad!

Going to Izzie's last game in the morning and then going to work and then going to Ash's play and cast party. Just made a big batch of mac and cheese for the cast party. We went to see the play tonight! It was good but it was hard to hear at parts. They had the air on which created noise. I actually couldn't hear Ashleigh at all and people farther back couldn't hear ANYTHING!

Sunday will be Ash's last soccer game and then we're going to an ice cream place for the thank you party for the kids. They did well this season and they are a really nice group of girls.

Thanks for listening! I've been incredibly stressed this afternoon! Enjoying my Friday night cocktail and then I will have some water and then head to bed! Thanks goodness I started packing early because otherwise I would be in deep trouble! I only work Tues, Thurs, Fri and Sat. so I have eight more work days to do 25 massages!

OK, off on another tangent!

TTFN :tigger:

Sounds like you can use a massage! Hope it gets better and vaycay is just around the corner :)

27 years ago today DS and I said I do!! I can't believe that much time has gone by!!! (I know what your thinking - Yes I am about 3 inches taller)

I waved goodbye to DH and DS - they went camping with Scouts. So we decided our Anniversary dinner will wait until we are on HHI in August. Anyone been there and eaten at Michael Irvine's Eat?? We will send DS and his friend to Teen Night Out - and we are going to a "fancy" place. :rotfl:

Janis

As I read this, I thought...hmmm...I hope she means DH :lmao: Happy Anniversary!

We love HHI. We've never been to Michael Irvin's Eat. But, where ever you go, I'm sure it will be perfect!

Good Saturday morning everyone.

Question of the Day

Giraffe's love to eat leaves. Doctors say we should be eating 9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. How many are you eating? What are your favorite fruits? What are your favorite vegetable? Do you cook any in a special way that you can tell us about?

I will be back later with my answer.

Have a happy and healthy day.

I doubt I'm getting 9 servings unless I eat a salad that day. I do eat bananas, apples, and grapes regularly. I am so ready for berry season! I love them all. I like most veggies and we have a veggie every night with dinner, but it's not something I will just grab as a quick snack or anything.

Hello friends!:goodvibes I wanted to let you all know that I am here with you for the Summer Challenge! My name is Shawn, I am 51 years old, live in NC (Hello Kaiti in Charlotte!) with my DH and 15 yr old son. Almost the same family and age as LisaH, Janis and one other lady I can't think of the name right now - she went geocaching with son last weekend I think.

I started on a journey to get healthy Feb 2010 with a goal to lose 50 lbs by my 50th bday Feb 2011. Found these boards in Sept 2010 and participated in several challenges in a row losing a total of 30 lbs in about 18 months. I went back to work last August after being off for 2 years and between that and busy family life I slowly lost time for these challenges and completely dropped out by Feb 2012. Of course I have gained back a ton of weight:sad2: I will need to remove my 30 lb clippie but I hope you will bear with me if it takes me a few weeks to say goodbye to it:laughing: Anyone out there who is discouraged ATLEAST try to keep off the weight you've already lost if you don't feel like you can lose more at this time.

I am slowly taking baby steps to get back into a healthy lifestyle. I did not do well the first week of the challenge but I am determined to do better this week. I do not know how much time I will have to post but I wanted to let you know that I am here and reading along and cheering for YOU and all of us to do well and encourage each other. I like to read all the posts and I am only up to about page 19 so far. I will try to devote atleast an hour a day to reading and posting until I can catch up with you all:hug:

See you on the DIS this Summer !!!!! :cool2:

Shawnprincess:

Welcome back! Where do you live in NC. We will be heading to Topsail Island in a couple weeks. Love the NC beaches :lovestruc

TTFN :tigger:

I cannot even imagine. This is so terrible! I am definitely praying for this family.

I'm also feeling kind of annoyed about some friendships right now. Basically certian friends have stopped making an effort to maintain friendships and it just makes me feel really sad/angry. Maybe its just that time of the month, causes me to be extra moody. I'm going to not dwell on it.

I will also put in a load of laundry, and then i want to look into some stuff for boyfriend and i to do at the cape when we go in july. I've been vacationing at the cape for 26 years, but this will be my second trip with him and we didn't do much the first trip and he was bored, so i want to find some fun stuff to do. I know we are going to go biking cause we did that on castaway cay and it was fun so that's a decided, and provincetown because thats like a second home to me (my ancestors came from portugal to provincetown, we still own llots of land up there, my grandparents are buried there etc), but that still leaves probably a day to find something fun to do. And we are not beach people.

I will check in tomorrow, hope everone is having a nice weekend

Friendships are tough. As people get older, life gets more hectic. You may find that old friends aren't close friends anymore and you may make new ones that you get closer to. It's crazy. I try to maintain my friendships, but I have a friend that never calls me back. It gets so frustrating. Stay positive and don't dwell on it,

Your trip sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun!

Question of the Day

All these guys say MINE MINE MINE. We as women and mothers here this all the time from other people and we are always pleasing other people.

What do you do for your MINE time?

Have a happy and healthy day.

If you are wondering. I took all these pictures that you are seeing this week. The giraffes were outside our window in the AKL where we had one night given to us for our 30th anniversary from my sister.

Awesome pics!

Mine time is usually reading on the front porch. And, I love going to the gym, so that's my time, too. It's just as much as a social hour as it is a workout since the same girls go to the same classes.

Great QOTD!

Yes! I enjoy shopping by myself also. Especially without the kids which doesn't happen very often with DH's schedule. Ahhhh...a trip to Target with no kids would be so nice...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It took me a couple hours, but I am all caught up from Friday. This is going to be a crazy week, so I am going to try to get on daily, but may not. DS9 has archery camp M-Th 45 minutes away from 9 am-noon. So, DS6 and I are going to find things to do in the area each day. Tomorrow, I need to call the orthodontist because DS's bottom wire popped out of both bottom back brackets. We were there less than 2 weeks ago. Why does this happen? So, I am hoping for an appt after 1:00. I'd also like to take DS9 running if he's not too tired from being outside all morning.
We are having our garage sale Fri and Sat. I've been taking stuff to my mom's everyday and organizing it. It's a lot of work to haul all your stuff to someone else's house!
We are also trying to get people out for estimates for a new roof and gutters. We have one estimate ($14,070), but would like a few more. Then we have to find time to get to the bank and look into home equity loans or lines of credit to help pay. The one person who came for an estimate kept saying, "You have a big roof." Yeah, no kidding.
So, with all that, squeeze in t-ball practice and games for DS6 and a mini football camp for DS9 (run by a former local and former NFL player that donates everything through a foundation he started. btw~DS9 doesn't even play football, but wanted to go to the camp since they play flag football and not tackle lol), and I'm not so sure I'll have too much dis time this week. But, I am going to try :)
Glad to see the thread is still moving along quickly. It sounds like most people had a good first week. Just keep it up!
Jill
Evening, everyone!
QOTD: My me time activity of choice is reading. I love reading. I always have a book going and a bunch lined up behind the one I'm reading, and I grab any spare time to read. Unless, like today, I was so dead tired that I took a lovely hour-long nap before making dinner. :)
I got out for my C25K workout tonight - it was still 88 degrees when I went out at 7:15. I figured at least I had long shadows and could run on shaded sidewalks, but ooh it was still very toasty. I'm glad I went, though!
I hope everyone's kids are on the mend - what is it with this time of year? :( You're all in my thoughts - best wishes for quick and easy recoveries, everyone!
XOXO
Good MOnday morning everyone.
I have one more MOnday before summer vacation. I think this is the last full MOnday. 3 more days of exams. Cleaning day today. I have spent a great deal of time cleaning out file cabinets so I am very good shape. Just papers to file today.
Question of the Day
P1000274.jpg
This picture is in Key West
NOw that summer is here every talks about water. What do like "Ocean, RIver, Lake or Pool" Or do you have a fear of the water?
I was afraid of the water until I was 10 and even then I still am very uncomfortable in the ocean. I used to love to swim in a lake or a pool. Calm rivers are okay with me but no white water rafting.
Off to get ready for school.
Have a happy and healthy day.
Up with Ashleigh to finish her final project of the year and as soon as possible I will get on the phone and beg and plead for an appt with someone for Izzie. I will demand she be seen today. We leave a week from Saturday so I need to know that she will be able to swim and enjoy our vacation! Feeling way too stressed right now!
ME time lately is reading or doing a word search on my Kindle. I've even enjoyed cleaning the kitchen so I can watch something on the Kindle as well.
I like pools! Just never really a fan of sand. I love the waves at the beach but just not my cup of tea!
I think Ash needs the computer so I need to get off now!
TTFN :tigger:
Personally I like to ocean best although I like all forms of water.
In answer to the previous question I like ToT best - I could just ride it over and over.
In response to a previous poster (can you tell I am somewhat behind) we will also be dedicated to the football for the next few weeks - our first game is tonight but we have already watched everybody elses!!
QOTD:
I enjoy water of all types, probably River the least. But I find myself not actively involved in water activities like I used to be. I will try to remedy that while I am in Norway this summer.
This is HUGE at my house. When we lived in Germany, I loved all the excitement of World Cup Soccer, the flags out, the horns honking, no traffic or pedestrians out because everyone was watching games. Heck, they even showed the games at DS school in the auditorium if Germany was playing!
Does Switzerland have a National team? Are they in the Euro 2012 championships? Guess I could google that!
Shawnprincess:
Has been quite an interesting tournament thus far. Not really what everyone had expected in terms of the teams that are winning. But it is still early days and lots can happen.
Switzerland does have a national team but did not qualify for the tournament this year. They did play 4 years ago for the last Euro tournament but that was because the event was co-hosted by Austria and Switzerland which meant they were automatically part of the tournament.
In 2016 the tournament will be expanded to include 24 teams instead of 16 so there is more chance for the home team to qualify. Then again, the only time I watch football (soccer) is during the Euro and World Cups so I am really not up on the success of the national team here.
In the drawing at school I pulled Sweden as my team and they play for the first time tonight. They are predicted as an 80 to 1 chance of winning the tournament so I am ot hopeful of winning the pool. But who knows it has been anything but the expected thus far. We'll see.
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
After a very good week last week I find this week is a bit harder. I am within my calorie goals each day but not alway with the best choices to get those calories. So I see slight movements on the scale compared to big ones last week. Then again this is week 2 and ater a 12 pound loss in week 1 I imagine week 2 will be minimal. Just keep swimming.
PS, I am ougrad - OSU in our nemisis ;). A lot of people get that messed up, thinking Ohio State or Oklahoma State - I graduated from the University of Oklahoma - and am a rapid Oklahoma Sooners football fan!
OOPS ! Sorry 'bout that! CONGRATS on 6 pounds GONE :yay:
Welcome back! Where do you live in NC. We will be heading to Topsail Island in a couple weeks. Love the NC beaches :lovestruc
Hi Jill, we live 15 miles outside of Raleigh. Love Topsail Beach !!!
I definitely do NOT have a fear of any type of water, love the ocean, lakes, pools, rivers. (In that order):) What is more peaceful than lying in the shade of an umbrella at the beach:confused3 Good luck winding down the school year Dona.
Good luck with Sweden - look what happened with Denmark !!
I ended up asking DS about Switzerland and he knew they had a team but was not sure if they were in tournament this time. He could recall all the teams but one - I wonder if it was Sweden !!
Thought I would try logging on at work and answering the QOTD very quickly each morning when I get to work - we'll see how that goes. Pouring rain here this morning. Have a great day allpirate:
I would love to go back to college. Not to further my career or anything like that, but just to learn about things I have an interest in. However, right now with work and family, my plate (and brain) is just too full to be of any good. I would love to have the wherewithall to go back to school without worrying about work. But I'm also in my 50's - a little more forgetful then I was the last time I went to college!
I will probably take some fun community college courses once we get DS off to his own college.
My mom is a SAHM and I keep telling her to go to college with me! The school I go to is very inexpensive and I think it'd be a great idea, but she hasn't said too much about it. I don't know exactly what she'd go for, but why not, right?
I think it is a great idea!!
My son is totally into photography, and I should mention that college program as a photopass photographer. He is not really into taking pictures of people, but he could snap a few others while he is there. I have read about the college program, followed someones blog who was into it, and it sounded awesome. Wish I was still young and in college, I would apply so fast!
I love reading about Walt Disney and loved One Man's Dream. I was the only one in my group that went, the others went to ride Star Tours. It was great, and they found me watching the movie. We had to leave right after, so they could not look around, but was very interested in what they saw. We'll need to go by again. Would love to take the Keys to the Kingdom tour, probably when DH and I go on our own someday.
I use to hate photographing people, but since I started it's my absolute favorite thing. I've been reading a lot about it, it sounds like so much fun!!
My family kind of fell asleep during the movie. Of course I sat there with big eyes taking in everything that it said. The walkthrough is awesome and the new miniature set-up of fantasyland they have in there is AMAZING.
KTTK was fun. We went behind the scenes where they keep the floats, splash mountain, the emporium, and learned a lot about adventure and frontierland. We rode HM and Jungle Cruise with no wait while our guide told us some stories. I wish we would've gotten to hear a bit more about Tomorrowland and Fantasyland though. Those sections weren't mentioned hardly at all. With lunch though, it's definitely worth the price. We loved Columbia Harbour House!!
Really busy crazy week at work, but good on the diet front. I stayed OP, tracked and was very careful. So far I turned down donuts, sundaes and chinese food. But it paid off! Overslept Friday so couldn't weigh myself, yesterday morning was 6 pounds! Gotta love the first week after a break! I started out above where I had started my last challenge, and it just fell off! I know it will slow down after this, but that is a great feeling! I have been dancing around all weekend! Splurged Thursday and today on milk duds when we went to the movies, but drank water instead of the slurpees.
Wow, you have willpower! 6 pounds is AH-mazing! Keep it up!!
Movies again next weekend with friends, and lunch with that, so will need to be absolutely good until then Going to Eggspectation, never have been. I have seen it on expense reports, and seems very popular.
Looks like our trip is a go. So excited to see my new niece and nephew, another nephews wedding and a family reunion. Going to be a crazy trip though. Lots of driving to make all the events. Need to make it their though, spend some time with DMIL. During the fall challenge, she lost two of her siblings in the space of one week. I fell apart during that, and did not do very well the rest of the challenge. This week, her third sibling passed away. It is her three older siblings and she is the next one in age. Her younger brother (only other sibling left) is undergoing treatment for cancer, although they think it might be OK now. But I think she is probably feeling a little scared and shakey. She is much healthier than the three of them were, so that is a blessing, but she is probably thinking she is next in line...:sad1:
Work has gotten very stressful, filling in for a coworker, so even did some work at home this weekend. She is back the middle of this week, but I am crazy far behind. Will probably do some work at home next week as well, but at least it will get it done. They put off the accounting changeover to July, so that gave me some space, but of course it will just get crazy then! Will be so glad when it is over!
Need to wrap this up, send in my HH and weight and get ready for work tomorrow. Take care all!
Carol :goodvibes
So sorry about your DMIL. I will keep her in my thoughts :hug:
Way to go!!
It's been incredibly nice here in the midwest lately, Staying under 90 usually during the day and in the evening it's actually a bit chilly! Guess I better make use of that road and get off the treadmill...:rolleyes1
Good MOnday morning everyone.
I don't really like water unless I'm in a hot shower or drinking it. :thumbsup2 I like our pool but if I do swim it's only for about 30 minutes and I just float around. I'm too scared of the fish in lakes and oceans to swim but I do like sitting on the beach listening to the waves. I just hate being wet for long periods of time.
Up with Ashleigh to finish her final project of the year and as soon as possible I will get on the phone and beg and plead for an appt with someone for Izzie. I will demand she be seen today. Foot is feeling much better, the pain has ceased!
Decided to start getting up at 5AM. As I said before, something about being early to rise that I love. I ended up starting 30DS again and a yoga video this morning too!! I like to exercise at night better, but if I get it done in the morning I don't have to worry about fitting it in somewhere. I guess it's a pro/con thing.
Found a 10k next month that I'd like to do. Trying to convince a friend to come and at least do the 1 mile.
Almost have all of my pictures edited! Whew! I think I've had photoshop up non-stop for days. I notice that my week to coach is coming up soon. I have already got all my questions lined up for you guys! Hopefully they aren't repeats, but if so, that's okay.
Scattered thunderstorms today! :banana: I love me some rain. For some reason it makes me more focused and I get a lot of things done.
Have an awesome day! :cool2:
QOTD:
I don't really have a fear of water, but I'm not a fan of the ocean because I have a fear of sharks. ;) I don't mind pools or lakes, just mind putting on the swimsuit. :lmao:
Hello everyone!
Monday QOTD: It's funny because I grew up living on a lake and was always in it, but now I am somewhat uncomfortable in the water. I do swim though, I like pools and lakes pretty much the same. Well I hate public pools, but that is because so many people don't control their kids and teach about personal space!! hahaaa!! The thing I love about the ocean is playing on the beach. I don't get in the water really, just at the edge. And I like floating down a calm river but I would never white water raft.
Everyone have a great Monday :)
--Lynda
QOTD: My favorite water would be river. It's so peaceful and quiet - I really enjoy it :) I'm not a big swimmer - we didn't grow up near water, so my parents didn't put us in swimming lessons. In high school, part of my PE was swimming lessons. As you can imagine, I wasn't a big fan of water and was not looking forward to that part of gym class at all! At the end of the two weeks of lessons, my teacher wrote on my report card, "Michelle has gone from being completely terrified to relatively comfortable in deep water" :rotfl:
Happy Monday everyone! And Go Sweden!!! :)
