Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

I think I would like to go to East Coast of USA and see all the historical sites. Like Washington DC, Philidelphia, Boston. I like American history. I would also like to visit Hawaii, and the trio of England, Ireland, and Scotland.

you can come visit me too!!!!!

Good morning all you wonderful summer losers!! It has been way too long since I've posted here and even read but I just wanted to say a quick hello, and congratulate all of you for sticking with this healthy journey through the busy, hot summer months!

Hey stranger!!!!! We miss you!!!

Ready for tomorrow I can get back on the thread mill. It was a long too weeks and I hope the foot strain is going to be good to go too. I do have to start and stay slow for a few weeks (dr's orders) but as long as i can move it's a good thing.

QOTD

Today is Wednesday!! Hump day! 1/2 way through the week and on the downward slide!!
I have found that a lot of our plans with family and friends revolve around food, especially in the summer. Cookouts, restaurant meals, picnics. This week I'd like to find something where the focus is less on the food and more on an activity and the people.

Since it's Wednesday we get to start looking forward to the weekend. What do you have on tap? any big plans? Do food and exercise play a big part in your weekend plans?

Quote of the day

Happy Wednesday everyone! I'm absolutely ashamed that I haven't made more of an effort to be on here lately. And of course, the further behind I got, the more I kept putting it off because I never had the time to do proper "read and replies". But I decided you all would forgive me if I pop in right here and start fresh with today's QOTD. So I'm sorry if I missed important stuff. Please forgive me!

Well of course our weekend is a 3 day outdoor swim meet! Fortunately the weather looks good. As usual I'll pack drinks and such for the time we spend sitting, but I've tried to get out of the habit of eating at swim events unless it is truly mealtime. it is too easy to succumb to boredom eating!

Not sure how the exercise will fall this weekend. I've done better this week than I have in a while, but it is still the weak link in my chain.

***************

Boy, after so many days away you would think that I had TONS to share, but I don't. Had a small gain after July 4th but nothing crazy and hoping it will be gone by Friday. I'm struggling a bit to stay within my maintenance range, but I know that the lack of exercise is the main problem.

I missed posting a recipe last week, but up next is this week's recipe! It is ideal for low carb folks, but not so great for us calorie counters. That said, it is SUPER healthy, quick, and yummy! Be back in one minute with it!...........P

>>>Aunt Sue's Muffins<<<

1/4 C ground flaxseed

1Tb. Coconut oil

1-2 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. baking powder (preferably aluminum free)

Sweetener (1-2 droppers of liquid stevia or 2 Splenda packets)

1 egg

Combine all ingredients in microwave safe bowl or ramekin (we use our 2 cup Pyrex measuring cup). Microwave for 1 minute (slightly more or less depending on your oven). Turn out onto plate to cool. Eat as is or split open and top with nut butter.

The amount of cinnamon is definitely a personal choice, but DH goes for the 2 tsp. they do NOT tasty real cinnamony no matter what.

Net carbs for this muffin is 2 g. WW Points (not PP) is 9!! You can split the batter into 2 ramekins and make two smaller but still hearty muffins.
****

CHANGES I'VE MADE.....

I've made this much less caloric using just 1 tsp of the oil, egg whites, and adding things like shredded carrot or pumpkin purée. But be warned, they are still pretty calorie dense...and the added wet ingredients makes a very damp muffins that falls very quickly. ( The original muffin is huge and doesn't fall.) I've tried using a bit more baking powder and it helps, but they still fall a bit flat.

That said, they still average 4-5 Points per muffin, even with the changes. But I still enjoy them occasionally because the flax is so good for you.

............P

Good morning all!

Happy birthday to my fellow birthday girl, Karen! Hope your day is magical! party:

Liz, so sorry for your stressful trip. I'm glad that your DH is doing well. A big BL congratulations for maintaining.

So the one good thing about being at a baseball tourny all weekend in the 110 degree heat is that I had no appetitte and lost about 1.5 lbs was afraid that it would be because of dehydration however all I did was drink water (my family of 5 went through 2 cases of water alone!!....of course my son was the catcher so he drank almost an entire bottle between innings!!)

Know lets hope I can just keep this up and not regain it!!!

Jen, that is crazy that they had kids playing in the heat. :sunny:

Hi all! I hope everyone is doing well! Just a quick post to let you all know we are back from Topsail Island and D.C. We had such a great vacation, but now back to reality.

Jill, welcome back from vacation! Glad that you had a great time! :beach: When reality is a little too real you can think back on all the wonderful memories that you have.

Last call for WIN numbers. I will be posting results tomorrow around 7 pm EST.

Just downloaded the disboards app. I am so excited.

Thanks for the reminder and thanks for being WIN! coach! :thanks: I love the Disboards app too.

Trina, glad that you are feeling better and had a good day at work! :thumbsup2

Paris, no question about it! I am really developing an obsession with the city and with France as a whole. It's my favorite country in Epcot, it's always so pretty in movies, and the music is so incredible. One day, I WILL go to Paris!!

Ooo la la! pixiedust:

Glad that you had a good game. That sounds like a lot of fun!

If you had the opportunity to travel, where would you go and what would you do?

Paris, Rome, Greece, cruise anywhere, Hawaii, all the Disney properties. A girl can dream!

Here is some pixiedust: that your travel dreams come true some day.

I'd love to go to India, Thailand, and Japan -- really, anywhere I haven't been! I love exploring and learning about history. Oh, and, well, in Japan, I could go to Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea...

I've heard that DisneySea is a fabulous park. :smickey:

I think I would like to go to East Coast of USA and see all the historical sites. Like Washington DC, Philidelphia, Boston. I like American history. I would also like to visit Hawaii, and the trio of England, Ireland, and Scotland.

on another note wooohooo I made the top 10 list.
Now just have to stay there. Right now at the point where it is losing novelty and becoming hard work again. Novelty as in totally fun starting the challenge, but now kinda not. I tend to do that, get all psyched up and do great at beginning, but then the newness wears off and it becomes a bit tedious. I need to find more inner inspiration.

It is tough to keep that new challenge motivation going but you can do it! :thumbsup2

Tracey, hope that you are feeling better soon. :flower3:

And I wanted to wish my friends, Lisa and Karen, a magical, wonderful, very, very happy birthday today!!! Sending wishes for a fabulous day and an even better year ahead!!party::jumping1::rockband:

I've missed keeping up with you all here. Keep up the great work!!!! they've mixed up all the smiilies on me. lol

Thanks for the birthday greetings! :flower3: So nice to see you here!

This week-end I'm going to DISNEYLAND! :cool1::yay::hyper::jumping1:
It's my home park!

I grew up in Anaheim on a culdesac with 50 kids and they are having their first ever reunion -- I've known these folks since the 60's. :hippie: I knew that I would regret it forever if I didn't go.

I'm hoping to ride Radiator Springs Racers and will have a delicious dinner at Carthay Circle Restaurant in DCA on Friday night. I'm counting on all the walking to help me stay on track. I may even be lucky enough to catch a showing of World of Color. I'm sitting here listening to the entrance music on d-cot and getting in the mood. :teeth:

Hi Pamela! :wave2: Thanks for the delicious looking recipe!

I could just sit here and chirp all day but I had better get some work done. Have a great day all!

Yes! Most of my weekend plans include a lot of food and activity. I am going out Friday night with a group of friends to celebrate one friends' recent promotion, so it's gonna be quite a celebration. But I am keeping in mind Saturday morning is weigh-in and I have to do three miles for race training that day. Your quote is perfect food for thought for Friday! Nothing else really on tap for the weekend, so maybe I'll get some cleaning and projects done Sunday. I bought some fabric to make a pillow, and I need to get some more fabric to finish a dress I'm making, so that will be Sunday's goal. My dress is a cute little halter with Minnie Mouse fabric- red with big white polka dots. I want to wear it on my next trip on our Epcot day.

Does anyone else do this? You plan your outfits by what park you're going to that day? I just want to make sure I'm not crazy, lol :cutie:

Well, we're actually looking at a pretty low-key weekend, after all our travel adventures! DD5 has a birthday party at a pool nearby, and I have a free ticket for Brave, so I might take DD7 to see it again. We might see the new Ice Age movie, too - DDs are fans. :) Lots of playing it by ear, I think!

weekend plans....
another baseball tournament and my youngest sister and I are tentatively planning on taking my middle sister out for her bday to Chicago so we will see how that goes....

AND we got a new puppy yesterday...a chocolate lab....only 6 weeks old so I will be working on the house training and hopefully catching up on sleep as he whined all night last night :scared:

Umm... of COURSE, I plan my outfits (and my family's outfits) around which park we will be at!! And I try to color coordinate everything too.... makes the scrapbooking so much easier in the future! When DD and I went to WDW last year, we wore matching t-shirts every day! I did coordinate our colors when I went with DS in 2010, but he doesn't know that! :thumbsup2 He was NOT up for wearing matching t-shirts with his Mom.... not sure why??:confused3 ;)

Animal Kingdom usually gets earth tones, often black for DHS (not sure why.... just evolved that way), purple or blue often for Epcot (again, not sure why), and ANYTHING with Mickey for Magic Kingdom (but usually classic Mickey colors.... red, black, yellow, white)!

When DS was younger, he wore a different Buzz Lightyear shirt EVERY SINGLE DAY of the trip! He was a HUGE Buzz fan, so I kind of planned our outfits around his Buzz t-shirts! :lmao:

Okay friends.... twice in one day! I'm on a roll! :rotfl2:

Home from this morning's Driver's Ed at noon and heading out again in 25 minutes for DD's chiropractic appointment at 4pm and then maybe grab sandwiches with the kids at Subway for a treat before dropping DD at the Y for 5:30 practice. Haven't yet decided if DS and I will head home while she swims or just find something cheap/free to do in town. It is FAR too easy to use those hours shopping and I am trying hard to avoid doing that! I do have a few returns I could run around and take care of I suppose.

Just wanted to say AGAIN, if you haven't checked out the recipes on our BL recipe thread, give a peek over there. I made the curried carrot soup again yesterday at the kids' request and once again it was a hit, even on a warm afternoon! I served it in homemade bread bowls, so that was a treat as well. But I called dibs on the leftovers for lunch today! :thumbsup2

Off to check on email before I have to head out again!................P

well off to learn CPR yet again, is my renewal class today. At least all those chest compressions will burn calories and I get paid for it.

Hey ... we should vacation together. We live about 4 hours from Gettysburg and I am trying like crazy to talk my family into touring it. Of course I am having some issues with this. I will get them to go eventually. I have also been throwing around the idea of seeing Williamsburg around Christmas time. Not sure how far in advance I would have to plan this. I plan on looking this idea over when we come back from vacation next week.

If you had the opportunity to travel, where would you go and what would you do?

U.S. Virgin Islands, Josh went there for an underway when he was in the Navy and said it was beautiful. Ever since then I've wanted to go. I had planned on going the year he and Maddie passed away but life got in the way.

JackslilWench -- Good luck on hitting your goal!

QOTDDo you have a lazy day at your house? If so what do you do or not do? If you don't, why not? Do you want one? Do you work out on your lazy day? Or do you take a rest day?

Sunday, although I wouldn't call it completely lazy. We usually do dinner in the crockpot. Then I spend part of the day trying to figure out the meal plan for the upcoming week. Sometimes if we need to get a few groceries we do it that day as well.

Jill - I hope you were able to enjoy your vacation. I'm sorry to hear about all the house issues.
Since it's Wednesday we get to start looking forward to the weekend. What do you have on tap? any big plans? Do food and exercise play a big part in your weekend plans?

Nothing planned here, maybe some house cleaning but other then that taking it easy. We've got rain in the forecast so looks like indoor exercise. If we get a somewhat clear day I may do some swimming. Although that late night swim last week was awesome, so I may just wait and do it in the evening.

---------

Okay, I'm somewhat caught up...

Yesterday we had a blast! We left here around 11am and headed to the Hilton at Disney. WOW! is all I can say about this place. Its gorgeous. We didn't do a whole lot of exploring but I told Alan it would definately be on my list of places to stay at again. They had a 24 hour market where you could pick up sandwiches, chips, water, soda, yogurt, cereal, etc etc. They had a lounge where you could enjoy a cocktail. We checked out the fitness room which seemed small but it had everything that I would use (didn't use the facility this trip).

When we checked in the room wasn't ready so we headed over to Grand Floridian and hung out for a few hours. We had some lunch and then headed back to our hotel to chill and get ready for the evening. I've got pictures on my camera that still need to be uploaded but all I can say is I'm glad Alan wanted me to wear my black dress. I put it on, got my make up on, and looked in the full length mirror and DAMN! you can tell I've lost weight wearing that dress :rotfl:. I FELT INCREDIBLE!! Trust me this is a big deal for me because I hardly ever feel awesome in clothes. I think that's what made the night all that more meaningful.

We headed to the Poly and had a drink before dinner. I don't know what it is but I can get a drink anywhere else on Disney property and they pale in comparison to drinks at the Poly bar. :) I don't know what it is.

We enjoyed our dinner and then headed back to our hotel. We enjoyed a drink (best strawberry daquiri I've ever had!) and then pretty much just hung out on our little patio and chit chatted and then headed to bed around midnight.

*****TMI ALERT*****

Well the "witch" arrived full force this morning. Now, I know this may not be a big deal to many people but for someone like me who has PCOS its HUGE. I told Alan (he'd been asking every morning if it had happened yet) and I swear to everything Holy you would of thought I told that man I won the freaking lottery :rotfl:.

We finished packing up and headed home. I got home, turned on the computer, charged up the phone, and got on the scale (weigh in day for my other BLC) and BAM! 200, on the dot!

Haven't done a whole lot today. I decided to take today off from exercising. I'm working on my water and have had a sensible day eating considering what my body is going through. I had a split second urge for chocolate so I went and refilled my water glass and started drinking it. For now the urge is gone.

Here's to hoping come Friday morning I'm in ONEDERLAND!! :cool1:

Glad to see you back Jill! Your vacation sounds great. So sorry about the house issues. We refinanced a year ago and was shocked at our appraisal at the time too. We were still able to go through with the refinance ... but now think we should have waited a year. Who would have thought rates would ever be this low. Perhaps talk to another lender and see if they will work with you. Hope everything works out.

Thanks. We actaully have the insurance company coming to look at the roof since we have some storm damage, so maybe that will help. After we hear from them, we are going to apply at the credit union for refinancing. We are still able to do it with the 1st bank, but we were hoping for some more extra money for some other home improvements. Oh well, we'll see what happens.

I am thinking of taking my boys to the Akron zoo. We bought a membership to the North Carolina aquariums while on vacation and we can go to the Akron & Erie zoos with free admission. Pittsburgh & Cleveland zoos will be 1/2 off. I have to look at the weather and see which day will be better to go. Hopefully, I will be walking a lot at the zoo and I'll try to watch what I eat. Especially since I didn't track at all last week...I am right back on track this week!!

Happy Birthday Karen and Lisa!!

I never did make it back on last night. DH looked at the water heater while I was out running and determined it was caput. It was from 1994, so I guess it had a nice long life. We went shopping last night and bought a new one & spent a few hours today installing it on DH's break at school. He is now finishing attaching the gas & then I will be taking a nice warm shower (as opposed to a 1 minute cool scrub up this morning).

DS8 has an orthodontist appt tomorrow at 9:30 and gets his expander out. I'm sure it will be weird for him to feel the roof of his mouth again! I have no other plans for tomorrow other than maybe going to a kid's craft program at the library.

I mentioned to DH today that Disney released dates for packages for 2013 and in a week or 2 I am going to start pricing a trip for the week after Thanksgiving. Or, should we skip Disney and maybe do a cruise? He rolled his eyes at me and told me not to plan anything until he graduates and sees if he can find a job & if he will have any vacation time. That's January. I'm a planner, darn it. 2012 vacation is over, so it's time to start on 2013! I'm just going to stealth plan hehehe!!

I'll check in tomorrow. I told the boys we'd have a family movie night tonight, so I need to get dinner all cleaned up so we can settle down for a movie & candy (for them...carrots & hummus for me). Have a great night!

Quote of the day

you must be willing to make sacrifices at times, knowing that the outcome will be worth it.

We have a 5K on the Air Force base! I am really excited about it.
My DH and I were just talking about not having life revolve around food and how hard it can be. I am very proud of us and all the changes we have made in that regard but we have a long way still to go.
We went to Houston last week to visit my Bil and his fiance. Food was an issue for us and we could have done much better with it. Most of it was ordering the wrong things at restaurants. I really need to work on that.

TIP: When I know I'm going out to eat and where I find that restaurant's website and look up their nutritional information (some places don't have it on their websites). This way I can get an idea of what I want without going over my calorie range. However, sometimes I just don't care and am having a craving. I've realized every time I go in there with a craving I wind up blowing my calories out of the water. Ex: Applebee's last week. I had a chicken tender basket with fries. Yep, BAD idea! The meal alone was my calories for the entire day :crazy2:

Yesterday we had a blast! We left here around 11am and headed to the Hilton at Disney. WOW! is all I can say about this place. Its gorgeous. We didn't do a whole lot of exploring but I told Alan it would definately be on my list of places to stay at again. They had a 24 hour market where you could pick up sandwiches, chips, water, soda, yogurt, cereal, etc etc. They had a lounge where you could enjoy a cocktail. We checked out the fitness room which seemed small but it had everything that I would use (didn't use the facility this trip).

Is this the Hilton at Downtown DIsney? If so, I agree.... what a nice place! DS and I stayed there on DH's Hilton Honors points in 2010 for 3 night for free and it was great! We had an upper level room with a view of DTD and the parks beyond. We were able to see the Epcot ball and TOT from our room! And we got upgraded to "breakfast in the club room" because of DH's platinum (or diamond??) status and that was SO nice! It is great that there is still an off-site (sort of) hotel that is eligible for the Extra Magic Hours. There used to be more of them, but they are doing away with that priviledge.

That is WONDERFUL! I remember what a big deal it was always feeling lousy and icky and overweight, no matter what I was wearing. Feeling good in clothes is SO nice! Pictures coming soon??

:cool1:

Fingers crossed for Onederland on Friday!!

Good girl! Tracking is SO important!!

Enjoy the movie! What are you watching??

Good for you for talking about the whole "life revolving around food". It is so TRUE! Celebrating??.....Let's go out to eat or have a party (with lots of food). Weekend away?..... Where are we going to eat? Going to Disney?...... Where should we make our dinner reservations? Movie?.... popcorn and candy please. Get-together with friends?..... wine and munchies.

Restaurants are so hard. We didn't go out to eat a whole lot in the past (too expensive and we don't have any restaurants in our town other than a pizza place), but we definitely go out even LESS now. And we are MUCH pickier about where we go. Olive Garden used to be a family favorite, but OYE! Nearly impossible to stay OP there (although I've done it ;) ).

Try checking out the starters/appetizer menu if you are looking for a smaller portion. Last time we went to Bertucci's I ordered two apps for dinner instead of a meal..... Tuscan roasted veggies and some sort of roasted polenta dish. Both were yummy and nice small portions..... plus the price was right!

***************

WOW..... look at this! Three times in one day! :lmao: DH is going to be in town about the time that DD gets out of swim, so I asked him to pop over to get her, so I was able to come home after dropping her off! That earned me a few extra hours at home, so I am splurging and spending some extra time here instead of putting away all of the laundry I folded this afternoon! :thumbsup2

Dinner was a Subway breakfast sandwich.... egg whites and just ONE triangle of swiss cheese on an english muffin.... plus avocado, onions, tomatoes, and spinach! It was absolutely DELISH! Maybe it tasted extra good cause I was so hungry?? And the avocado makes it special too.

Here's a picture taken out the window of our room at the DTD Hilton that we were talking about above. This isn't zoomed at all, but if you look you can see the Epcot ball and some other things. I know we have photos of the Epcot ball, the top of the Sorcerer's hat at DHS, TOT, and the Earrful Tower. SO COOL!

I'll try to pop on tomorrow morning. Gotta take DD to early swim, but should be home again by about 7:15 am (the other swim/driver's ed mom is taking them from the pool to DE at 8:45), so I'll try to pop on in the morning!.............P

This week-end I'm going to DISNEYLAND! :cool1::yay::hyper::jumping1:

:teeth:

UGh, jealous!!! I wanna go!!
I hope you and Karen had a spectacular birthday!!

Does anyone else do this? You plan your outfits by what park you're going to that day? I just want to make sure I'm not crazy, lol :cutie:

I want to see a pic of the dress!!

Yes, I do plan my outfits around the parks most of the time. LOL

AND we got a new puppy yesterday...a chocolate lab....only 6 weeks old so I will be working on the house training and hopefully catching up on sleep as he whined all night last night :scared:

Awwwww!! My Popcorn (Golden retriever) whined the first night. I slept on the floor and kept my hand in the cage for like the first week.

Hey ... we should vacation together.

Love Gettysburg! We want to go to the Gettysburg 150th anniversary next year but that might interfere with Spain.
Did you know they have a 5K there, that runs through the battlefield? DH wants to do that one.

Argh, my in laws are visiting this weekend! Who insists on visiting someone that just moved in a few weeks ago?!? My MIL, that's who! At least we did sit down and plan all the menus, they will involve a lot of different make ahead salads. I would much rather be with Lisa and her gang at DL!!!

Yup, even worse is our movie theater is a full service restaurant!!! We are going to Vegas middle of next month and food has come up just as much as what shows we are going to see. While in Houston we had lunch at one place and just shared an sampler app. Well the problem with that was it was nearly all fried food! :rotfl: At least it was less food than two entrees I guess. :sad2:
I'm not going to beat myself up to much over Vegas. I'm going to eat small portions, eat the Nutra-System food I bring for breakfast and snacks and work out everyday.
