Biggest Loser Run/Walk 1/2 marathon

Good luck to you Jillbur and freepixie! I'll be heading up to the expo around 3pm today when it opens. We have friends that have a lake house on Candadohta Lake so that is about an hour away. We'll drive up tomorrow and try to get there around 6am. I'd rather be early and have plenty of time to warm up and get loose than run to the start line all stressed out like I did at last year's WDW half marathon.

It looks like the weather is going to be really good. I was worried about signing up for a half marathon in August because you just don't know how hot it will be...but I think we all got lucky.

I too was pretty happy after reading the e-mail from them. It did answer a lot of questions. I'm getting pretty excited...should be a fun day!

Good luck to you too! We are staying in Erie & are planning to leave our hotel at 5 am because we'd rather get there earlier than later lol. Weather looks awesome! Getting ready to head to the expo in about 45 minutes. Have fun everyone :)

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the expo was! I'm leaving my house incredibly early, probably about 5:00- it takes about 30 minutes to get to presque isle, and then another 30 minutes to get to beach 11!

Good luck tomorrow!! Have a great race!!

I hope you all had a nice race today! Aside from the very delayed start, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the race turned out, it was impressive for a local event!! They even brought out the good powerade and everything!!

I loved the girl scout troup at waterworks area- but I'm partial cause a former student of mine was volunteering! :) One of the ladies giving out GU I work with and was just in a meeting with the other day ha!

I was takin it easy today because I'm running a 10k tomorrow but I ended up PR-ing somehow!! A 7 minute PR from my half last month!! Shazam! Lol!!

I loved how a lot of people dressed up!! I'm usually the only girl in a sparkleskirt at local races but I saw quite a few out there in the course!! And did you all see Mr Incredible?? How awesome was that?!?!?

Anyhow, I'm very pleased with how the race turned out and I'm hoping that our local runners club takes note of how awesome it went and apply that to future local races :) cause usually the local races suck haha!!!

Here's my opinion of the Biggest Loser Erie race:

Expo~I was actually disappointed in the expo. It didn't seem like there we any vendors other than The Biggest Loser. Since it is a private race series, I understand not having others at the expo, though. I picked up my race bib (didn't have to show ID at all for anything which I thought was extremely odd), got my shirt, signed up to win the BodyMedia armband, bought a magnet, and left. We were only there about 30 minutes. When we were there, Pam had just come on stage, but I didn't feel the need to stay for the speakers.

Race~I thought it was EXTREMELY ORGANIZED! The email that was sent the week ahead was very informative. They pretty much told people to get there early because of traffic. We pulled into beach 11 parking at 6:00 on the dot and had no issues with getting there. The parking was well done & organized as well. We used the bathroom and went back to the car to ditch our sweatshirts (yikes it was chilly to start). We got in the start area near our pace girl right around 6:40. I was a tad upset that they delayed the start because my legs were tightening up :( Anyhow, the race was super organized. I enjoyed seeing the water stations every mile. I didn't need them every mile, but I loved having people cheering me on. I also thought all the volunteers in between the water stations were so encouraging. I thought it was great how music was playing every so often as well. There was such a positive energy & vibe that I think I smiled and laughed more in those 13.1 miles than I have in any other race. This is a great race series for the elite athlete as well and newbies that are just starting out. I think they made everyone feel comfortable and welcomed. I will probably sign up for the race again next year (as long as my legs will take me those 13 miles).

On a side note, my brother in law had a finish goal of 1 hour 45 minutes. He ended up PRing in the half yesterday with a time of 1 hour 38 minute. He actually won his age group of 40-44, so that made it even more exciting!

I want to add that we stayed for awhile after the race to just hang out. DSs were playing on the playground and we were just relaxing. DH had parked between beach 11 and beach 10, so we went back to the car and drove to beach 10 so I could change. We headed back the way the course finished (like in reverse) and we saw a woman around mile 12 still going. The ambulance was behind her and a volunteer on a bike was riding next to her. She was obviously the last walker and she was still going, even though traffic was opened up and she was on the side of the road. What an inspiration! :cheer2:

I would highly suggest doing one of the races in this series :thumbsup2

Wow! Congrats on taking it easy :rotfl:

We saw Mr. Incredible getting interviewed after the race. Looking at him made me hot! Did you see that he was with Wonder Woman? All the cute skirts made me jealous lol. I better get one for my next half!

I'm glad your experience was so positive. Ours was too!

I would pretty much agree with everything that you said. I think for the most part, everyone in the half (at least in the front of the pack) were placed properly. There wasn't a whole lot of dodging around people, but that could have to do with the amount of runners too. I PR'd by 5 minutes. My garmin only shows that I ran 12.85 miles, but when I review the course that my garmin shows, it obviously had some sattelite issues as I apparently cut the corner once and ran through the harbor...:lmao: I thought it felt a little cooler at that point.

My wife ran the 5k and she thought it could have been a little better as far as where people started. She's not a fast runner and ended up in the middle of a bunch of walkers who were in the front half of the pack. It took her some patience to get around the walkers who were covering the entire road and not allowing faster runners to get by. I'm not sure if there is anything you can do about that as it seems to happen in all the races.

Overall, I thought it was a great race and really enjoyed myself.

Glad you got to cool off in the harbor lol. My RunKeeper app had me at 13.13 right before the finish so I guess it was pretty accurate. Glad you had a good race. I did enjoy that there weren't too many people seeing as though the road is tight.

You have to love walkers who stand 8 wide blocking runners. But, like you said, it seems to happen at every race. I hope she had a good race as well.
