Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Team Challenge for Losers and Maintainers!!!

Still working on my eating habits....

Last night DH and I went to Sizzler. I made good choices from the salad bar, then had the 6oz steak with steamed broccoli and baked potato. I had the butter and sour cream on the side and ate only tiny amounts of it and only a few bites of the potato.

When my meal came out I asked the waiter for a box and split the steak in half and put it and almost all of the potato in the box so I wouldn't be tempted to over eat.

But then I had a couple of small bites of bread pudding and apple crisp. :p

This morning I made egg white omeletes for brunch with the leftover steak and a little of the potato with sauteed garlic, green onions, zucchini, chopped tomato and a sprinkle of applewood-smoked cheddar cheese. Yum! Oh, and Tapatio hot sauce, of course. :)

Sometimes I just wonder though if I will ever stop wanting things I know I shouldn't have? If I try to cut sugar out of my life, will I ever stop craving chocolate? Or apple crisp and bread pudding, for that matter?

I've been much better at portion control, but will it ever be 2nd nature, the way it's always been 2nd nature to clean my plate or eat until I am really full?

Sigh.

In some ways it WILL get easier..... but it definitely takes time. I am into year #5 of this journey and some things have been second nature for a long time.... but some things still take lots of thinking and planning.

For myself, I am in SUCH a habit of measuring my portions and just plain old eliminating certain foods, that I don't even have to give it much conscious thought. But despite a few stints of VERY low carb eating and very much limiting my sugar intake for YEARS, I still CRAVE SWEETS! The trick is how I satisfy those cravings. A Vitamuffin and a cup of tea with a bit of Splenda is a great craving stopper for me.... especially during the winter months. During the summer (ice cream season), I lean more toward Skinny Cow ice cream treats..... but definitely only once or twice a week. Fruit salad and berries are my "go-to" dessert much of the time.

Every day that you make GOOD CHOICES is another day that you are reinforcing those healthy habits... and remember, we are trying to create the RIGHT HABITS!

Slow night tonight... Hmmm...

Sorry there was no QOTD today because of the updates. Hopefully we can get back to our regular routine.

So for the QOTD:

QOTD, Monday 4/16/12 : We've come a long way in three months. If you could go back in time to the first day you started the Biggest Loser challenge, what's the biggest piece of advice you'd give yourself?

Cut yourself some SLACK! I am trying to remember how far I've come and how LONG I've been within range of a VERY DESIRABLE weight. For a while I was convinced that I needed to stay right near 130 lbs. But I've had some trouble staying there..... so I need to cut myself some slack and remember that as long as I am under 135, I am doing okay!!!

Today was my birthday. .
Worked today, a customer walked by and chastised me for being there on a weekend again and when it was a gorgeous day outside as well. I said I know-- and it's my birthday too and nobody cares...:charac2:
So he went and bought a cupcake for me that had a happy birthday candle on it and it also had a candle-- it was really sweet and made me feel way better. then my daughter showed up at work which was great and they happy birthday'd me on the intercom when I was off.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I need to fly! TTYL...............P

Hi everyone!

QOTD: I'd tell myself to stick with it, even when I'm tired, or annoyed, or stressed, or whatever usually gets in the way of good food and exercise choices. It really does pay off, and you really do feel better when you've made that good choice.

Toe update - it's definitely broken. :( It's buddy-taped and in a shoe cast. I'll be seeing an orthopedist in a week or so to check it. I should at least be able to ditch the tape and the cast for the wedding we're going to on the 28th, but I won't be running for probably a month at least. SO SO SO frustrating - you guys all know how much I've fallen in love with my C25K workouts and running in general! It's like a big cosmic slap in the face. I think I'll be able to do the stationary bike in the meantime, so while it's not getting outdoors, I'll at least be able to stay conditioned for when I can get back out there. And I can do 30DS selectively, right? Just the pieces that don't need my toes? ;)

At least the orthopedist will be able to look at this from a running perspective - they see many athletes and deal with this stuff all the time. I just never thought I'd be one of them!

I'm in the home office now to get some work done, and then I'm going to move to the couch so I can do the ice and elevation I need to do for this. I can work from the laptop, and my Red Sox play at 11am today.

I think I'm going to have to be extra vigilant about following my points - tomorrow's WW weigh-in should be the one where I complete maintenance and officially rejoin the world of Lifetime membership - woo! I'm just nervous about maintaining without being able to exercise the way I usually do. Especially because I'm frustrated and upset, and that's usually when I make my worst food choices. I can get through this...

Well, spent most of my weekend not being able to move much. I injured my lower back. I think I will give it one more day of rest and then go back tot he gym on Wednesday....taking it light.
They do have this back stretch thing I think might help, along with the whirlpool and sauna. I haven't weighed either....ugh!!!

I need to get my booty in gear and do something about this lack of motivation!!

Buffy-it's a good week when we don't want to kill our children.:rotfl2: Are you on vacation this week, too? Have fun if you are!

Last week! I sent them all off to school today, so I'm sitting here enjoying the quiet. I really need to be doing yard work or cleaning my kitchen but whatever! It will be there tomorrow too. LOL

Liz sorry to hear about the toe!! I hope it gets better soon!

GRRRRR! I have been poofed 3 times!!! Reading along like Lisa and will need to post later!!

Just a quick note to Liz - hang in there!! I'm sure the ortho can get you moving again and can let you know how quickly you can back to C25K!!

The eggs sound really good and healthy. You crave stuff less--and it's after years of not having the bad stuff. Eating till you're full. yeah I was doing that when I first lost the weight but even those people who have their stomach stapled find ways around it-- eating more often etc.
..

In some ways it WILL get easier..... but it definitely takes time. I am into year #5 of this journey and some things have been second nature for a long time.... but some things still take lots of thinking and planning.

Every day that you make GOOD CHOICES is another day that you are reinforcing those healthy habits... and remember, we are trying to create the RIGHT HABITS!

Thanks to both of you for your responses! I guess I will just have to keep experimenting with what work best for me and remember that the healthy journey is as important as the destination.

Ouch - so sorry about the toe! :(

OK, wow. Food craziness today. I need to work out this afternoon, I've just about blown my calories for the day (lunch - bad choice) but I'm starving today.
Already downed 4 glasses of water too.

Of course I did go for a walk around the property with mom but it was a graze the yard work that needs to be done kind of walk. And I've got 1/2 the kitchen cleaned and sparkling. I've hit 5000 steps already for the day. Gotta step it up this afternoon!

Well I ran my first 1 mile race this morning! And I didn't come in dead last!! :cool1:

Gotta tell all of you all about it!

My alarm went off at 6:10 this morning, I got dressed quickly and after packing a bottle of water and oatmeal bars, I took off for our local yearly strawberry festival. Unfortunately, I didn't quite know where the race was at and got lost a few times trying to get there. I'll spare you all the boring details but by the time I signed the form and the check and got my number, I literally had 30 seconds to find the 5 friends I was racing with, take my place and start running. No time to eat so ran on empty stomach. (1st mistake...)

Took off pretty strong, but after about 30 seconds of straight running, I had to slow down to a fast paced walk, already panting hard. The rest of my group took off and I lagged toward the back; not looking to break any records and not caring if I finished last, just wanting to finish. So I would run as long as I could, walk a little to catch my breath and then run some more while doing the best I could to keep 'the girls' in place. Half the time I had to stop to fix that. (I understand now why I don't see very many 'well-endowed' women running... :rolleyes2 )

Thankfully, it wasn't too hot that morning but I still worked up a sweat; my straightened hair fizzed fairly quickly and it's too short for a ponytail still. A little disheartening that 6 year olds were passing me up fairly easy but I didn't care. I was going to finish if it killed me! :hyper:

I was towards the back; about 6 of the 35 that did the race were behind me and behind them was a cop car bringing up the rear. (Very reminiscent of the sweepers ) So seeing them, I kept trying to run as long as I could; now determined not to be last.

When I finally turned that last corner, it was really exciting to see my friends from the gym already there and cheering me on. But even more exciting was to see the clock with my time. I had set a goal for myself to finish in under 18 minutes since I had never raced before, nor even run outside so I didn't know what to expect. Well imagine my surprise when at 30 feet away I saw 15 minutes on the clock! When I saw that, I took off like a mad woman to finish the last few feet and finished with a time of 15:32!! 28 seconds off my fastest time on the treadmill!! :woohoo:

They had banana halves, orange halves, and strawberry shortcake to eat and Powerade and water to drink for the runners. At that point, one of my friends pointed out that I was trembling (due to not eating) and I was a little nauseous, so I had a little bit of everything which helped. I don't even like bananas and oranges, but they were so good! :goodvibes

The next few minutes were filled with high-fives from my friends (who all work at my gym so they know how I've been working for this), texting my relatives to let them know I actually did it and calling my parents and grandpa with the first thing out of my mouth being "I did it!!" Got a little emotional after talking to my grandpa and hearing him say how proud he was of me (he promised he'd come film my next race to see me cross the finish line) and all I could think was how I wish my grandma could have been there to hear it too. So there were a few tears shed on the race track, but it was a good thing. We stayed for a bit to watch the 10k which started about 15 minutes later. The first runner in came with a time of 34 minutes! WOW! After that, it was back home for a well deserved cold shower which was absolutely glorious. :)

I did promise I'd take some pictures so here's the few I took:

Me and my group (I'm in the white shirt):

Me, the lady who runs the gym I go to and her daughter:

DSC04499-1.jpg

Me and my t-shirt I got for running the race (and it's a size Medium!!) :

DSC04500.jpg

All in all, it was a good first experience. There were definitely some thing I would have done differently (eaten breakfast, gotten a racing bra, etc.) but my knees, back and shoulders aren't hurting and there's definitely the satisfaction of accomplishment. So the rest of the evening will be spent laying in the bed, watching the Muppets and just relaxing for the evening.

Thanks for reading if you've made it this far and I'll be back later with tomorrow's QOTD!

WOW! I got teary eyed reading your race recap! WAY TO GO! That is amazing! What an accomplishment! And you finished faster than your fastest treadmill time! I find that truly exciting and inspirational! Now you have a great "first race" story to tell. That's a common question in the running world: "What was your first race?". Great job!

=====================
The DIS has been very wonky for me (and everyone) the last few days due to the site maintenance. I had a very long multi-quote post made and then it wouldn't post. I will be back on later with more, but just wanted to say hello to everyone, congratulate all our losers, and just say I'm still here. We woke up to SNOW today! Is that crazy or what?

Oh no!! I hope your toe feels better soon! Well, since you can't exercise, just think that now you have to eat the best foods with 2x as much willpower to combat it. Hope you maintain or lose this week!

Well, spent most of my weekend not being able to move much. I injured my lower back. I think I will give it one more day of rest and then go back tot he gym on Wednesday....taking it light.

Whew, some injuries lately here. Hope everybody gets to feeling better!

QOTD: I would tell myself "It WILL happen, you are strong enough to make this happen. Don't sweat the small things, educate yourself, stick with it, when you "fail" you're not really failing and don't drive yourself crazy. Focus on close goals and you will end up at your ultimate goal soon enough. Oh yeah, get out on that road and RUN!"

Belledreamer- WOOHOO! That's AWESOME, congratulations. I bet you were glowing with pride afterwards!

Yeah, the DIS was crazy for me for the past few days. Some things in my life: I finally got over the bulk of work that was stressing me out. Now it's more downhill this week. Still have lots to do but not feeling nearly as bad. My friend and I went to see the hunger games and it was amazing!! I'm about halfway through the last book now, I can't wait to finish it.

I've refocused myself this past weekend. Didn't make any slipups, but my stress was interfering with my intentions so I'm back full-force this week! I've noticed my appetite has become smaller lately. I think that's good because now I don't actually eat when I'm bored and I have plenty of calories throughout the afternoon for when I do get hungry.

Found 2 more 5ks coming up that I think I will sign up for. You guys were right when you said they were addicting! About halfway through 30DS level 2 already, really surprised at myself. Meant to go on a run last night, but when I walked outside it was freezing. I pretty much sprinted .5 miles because I was so cold I just wanted to come inside. My throat and heart felt like they were on fire. I ended up walking on the treadmill for another 2 miles on an incline while I read a book. Lots of exciting things, only 4 more weeks of school, 5 weeks until the half-marathon, and 6 until Walt Disney World. Woohoo!

Well, that seems to be my update. Christopher, where are you at!? If you're still on vacation, I'm jealous! Can't wait to hear more about your trip. :thumbsup2

Ahh!! I moved furniture around at home and can't find my internet cable, so I'm sneaking at work!

One thing I've noticed about Disney characters is that usually our favorites are the ones we identify with the most or remind us of ourselves; be it Snow White looking for her Prince Charming, Ariel longing for a different world than the one she knows or Carl fulfilling a dream in remembrance of his wife. So my question of the day is...

QOTD Saturday, 4/14/12: Which Disney character reminds you the most of yourself and why?

I would have to say Ariel, because that's what I WANT to look like, lol! She's also a bit of a smartalec ("Why don't you go tell my father? You're good at that.") and determined to get what she wants no matter what.

So for the QOTD:

QOTD, Monday 4/16/12 : We've come a long way in three months. If you could go back in time to the first day you started the Biggest Loser challenge, what's the biggest piece of advice you'd give yourself?

Biggest piece of advice for me would be to quit being a little girl about everything- it's time to put on your big girl panties and deal with it! That's part of my problem- I get all worked up over stuff that's I just need to do and be done with it.

Evening Everyone!

Must stop stress eating. Must stop stress eating. Must stop stress eating.

My 4th grade teacher would have been proud. I can write sentences over and over again. :rotfl2:

I was afraid I was going to stress eat today. I did exercise, though, so that's a positive. I signed up for the April Exercise Challenge to keep me motivated. I think that will help. ::yes::

I went to the gym today and did 20 min. on the recumbent bike at a 4 min. mile pace. I was definitely happy about that. Then, I did some shopping. My mom sent me to Dollar Tree for 2 more of a certain sized storage container that she has only found there (really I found it :rolleyes1) and I spent some time looking around to see what I could find. I did find something I thought I would mention. They had glass ice cream sundae-style bowls there that are 4.5 ounces. I haven't found something so authentic looking that is so close to the right portion size yet! :thumbsup2 (Anything to reduce the mom drama ;)-why does it matter if I eat ice cream out of a measuring cup? I am trying to lose weight. :headache:)

I also picked up a few Healthy Habits prizes! Keep those points coming!

Hi all,

Started off the day well but fell apart this afternoon. I think it's PMS starting early! I am drinking my water but ate too much junk today. I just finished going through some of my clothes to see what I still need to get and what I still need to lose weight to get into for the cruise and Disney. I know I need new sneakers and some new Crocs. Waiting until I get a code for Crocs.

Going to watch tv with Brian tonight. Working tomorrow and getting my haircut in the afternoon! Going to also get up at 6 to workout!

TTFN :tigger:

Day one of no activity due to the cracked toe is almost in the books. I stayed well within my maintenance points (WW) today, and I think that's about all I can expect of myself at the moment! I'll shoot for the same goal tomorrow. On Wednesday, I go see an ortho, and hopefully I'll be able to get on the exercise bike Wednesday night. Funny how, now, missing just a couple of days of exercise really feels off to me! A sign of the good changes. :)

Sorry, I've not been around lately.

I finally went to see my new doctor today. I told her that the hematologist in TX did tests and that one of the tests showed numbers that I'm going to be on blood thinners forever. She's in process of getting medical records and sounds like she may run that test on me again to determine if I can be taken off the stuff. She said "Well it's not good to be on blood thinners and trying to get pregnant." Fine, whatever. Then run whatever test and get me off of the crap (what I was thinking, didn't say it out loud). My PT/INR was low so I have to take a certain dose for a week and go back on Monday to have levels checked again. Her scale weighed me at 210, with shoes on. Not really holding much truth to that number. 1) I was fully clothed, 2) I had half a gallon of water in me, 3) I had eaten breakfast.

I also have to cut back on eating my favorite veggie (broccoli). It has vitamin K it which screws with my levels. This is going to be interesting trying to find different foods to eat thanks to the freaking vitamin K. I remember looking this stuff up in the past and a LOT of foods have vitamin K in it.

Other then that I've just been working out and getting my water in. I'll catch up tomorrow. I'm going to finish watching Monday Night Raw, change clothes, and head to bed.

Hi Everybody! :wave2:

I have missed you all. Sorry I haven't been on for a while. It has been crazy busy in my house. My two sons are in the musical (that was put on Friday, Saturday and Sunday). My oldest is the lead (Psedulous) in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" and my middle son is the Lighting Director. In between all of this, we have done our 3rd college visit and had a cast party on Saturday.

However, I have been exercising at least every other day. I was eating really healthy until the last college trip. It was a quick one and we ate fast food on our way there and back. :sad2: We have now seen all the colleges my son is interested in ... now we need to figure out the financials and pick one. I really can't wait until this is all over (... however, we get to go through the whole thing again next year .... sigh ....).

Hoping to post more in a few days. Stay the course .... :goodvibes

Happy Monday morning friends!

I did buy him a new polo shirt and two new pairs of shorts yesterday at Old Navy and he tried on some of his other shorts for me this morning.... so he does have 4-5 pairs of decent shorts and plenty of good polo shirts. As long as I can locate 2-3 pairs of jeans that fit him properly (many of his pants are too short and I discovered yesterday that ON doesn't carry the the size he now needs.... 30W x 34L.... tall and skinny!).

My DS is the same way - only a 28 W - I buy his jeans online at ON - they have them. Now that he's in the Men's section - I really miss those adjustable waistbands!!!

This is the first time I have been able to get on the boards all weekend. DS and DH just got home from a quick 3 day camping trip with Scouts - Cooperstown. I stayed home with the dog - and enjoyed being alone!!!

Have a great week everyone!!

Janis

AWESOME!

Retention Rate (compared to the 144 participants we had sign up for our start week on January 1st)
28% (this includes the Losers, Maintainers and Excused people!). Let's keep sending those weights people!

Before the weekly superstar list comes the disclaimer. I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference this is the magic percentage of weight lost formula - weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week times 100, that gives us the percentage. Now let me test that with my numbers for week 1, click, click, click goes the calculator. Yes, that agrees with the percentage on the magic spreadsheet. (btw if its been more than 1 week between weigh-ins, then the % loss is divided by the number of weeks, to keep everybody on the same basis)

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of week 15?

The WISH Biggest Loser Spring Challenge Week 15 Superstars!!

NOW FOR THOSE OF US WHO SET A GOAL FOR THE CHALLENGE!!!

NOTE: This list includes participants who have reported in within the last 3 weeks, once someone misses 3 weigh-ins they are dropped from this report.

How this works: You set your goal for what you want to lose in the challenge. Then I calculate your weight loss in the challenge divided by your goal to get a % to goal.

Anybody can change their goal at anytime (or add a goal) – all you have to do is send me a PM.

Since the goals are an individual thing, the list is just in alphabetical order to make it easier for everybody to find their own name. If there are any questions or suggestions please let me know.

We have done 15 out of 21 weeks, so the challenge is 76% complete.

I find everybody on the list an inspiration and everybody who participates in this challenge is an inspiration in and of themselves. Whether you post, lurk or just pm your weight and check results on Tuesdays, you have made a commitment to yourself. And that is the biggest inspiration of all!BY Octoberbride03

Sorry for the fly by post but I just wanted to get the next QOTD out before I went to bed.

QOTD Tuesday, 4/17/12 : What inspires/motivates you in your weight loss journey to reach your goals, be it to make better food choices, to go exercise more, to run that race, etc?

Congrats to all our biggest losers this week and YAY! I made the list for the third week in a row! :woohoo:

Will try to catch up with everyone's replies tomorrow!

Night!
