Biggest Loser 9 Spring challenge -- Part 2! HERE WE ARE! :)

Morning all. I feel horrible! Bloated, indigestive, sore from riding, tired from not enough sleep. BUT---- DD IS THE STATE BEAM CHAMP FOR HER AGE AND LEVEL!!!!!!! :yay::yay::yay: She was 2nd on all other events, and second all around. I am sooooo happy for her. She had a GREAT meet, highest scores ever for her on floor and bars!

It's tough, b/c our little gym works out about half of what the girls she competed against at state. They are 4-5 hours a days, 6 days a week girls. We only go 3 hours 3 times a week.

Sorry for my proud mom braggging!

After the meet was finally over, 2 HOURS LATER THAN SCHEDULED :headache:, DH decides he wants to drive 30 minutes in the OPPOSITE direction from home so he can eat at his favorite seafood buffet. I really didn't think I ate that much, I just wasn't feeling well and DD2 was DONE after being at the meet for 5 hours and wasn't on her best behavior. I didn't eat any fried foods, just a 1 inch square each of mahi mahi and flounder, salad, and a taste of a couple of other things. I did have a small piece of baklava and flan, maybe that's it. THE SCALE WENT UP 4 pounds since Saturday morning. I really don't get it. I do feel rather bloated, and I know I didn't have enough water, but I didn't feel like I ate 4 pounds worth of food in 2 meals.

Again, I am sorry for my long post, but I am very, very discouraged. This is not how I want to end this challenge! :headache: To top it off, it is POURING with a chance of thunderstorms, and after getting home at 1 am and getting up at 4:45 to get DH and DD2 off this morning, I can't do a run. I might try a workout video, that could help.

State testing is this week, and I have to give 2 tests to children that need accomodations today. Hope I can stay awake! DD has tests Tuesday and Thursday, and we'll be really hitting the studying hard!

Yesterday's QOTD: I love fresh salsa with lots of cilantro, hummus, most anything Mexican, but not much of it is healthy!, and Chinese makes me feel bad. I think it's the sodium. I do like steamed dumplings.

Hopefully I can come back this evening and not be so grumpy! Apologizing again for the rant.... Happy Monday!
Taryn

Let's start off with a  for Taryn, I'm sorry the scale isn't going your way. With all the sitting and car riding you've done this weekend, it's likely your body is retaining sodium. I would not be at all surprised to find you have a much lower weight on Wednesday, so hang in there, keep eating right, and do the workouts you can! And Congratulations to DD! What an incredible accomplishment! You are justifiably proud! :thumbsup2

I was able to get up closer to 4 than 4:30 this morning, so I got my 90 minutes of running in. I did just over 7.5M, so I'm pleased with that. I also did my favorite workouts, intervals. I alternate 4.8 and 5.3mph, so my heart gets a little extra workout. Last night I gave myself a mani/pedi, didn't have time for the facial. I'm going to get that in tonight, and get to bed early so I can get up and walk for 90 minutes tomorrow. I have been rewarded, the scale has already gone down 1 lb, and I'm hoping for another tomorrow!

My food looks pretty good today -- I'm having a yogurt/strawberry/banana/blueberry smoothie for breakfast; sugar-free vitamuffin for morning snack; hummus, veggies and sugar-free jello pudding for lunch; babybel and grapes for an afternoon snack; barbecued chicken and grilled veggies for dinner, followed by a sugar-free fudgesicle for dessert. It's within my points range, and also gets a ton of fresh food in me.

Sunday QOTD: -- Since I eat it 5 or 6 days a week, I guess my favorite healthy ethnic food is hummus. I scoop up a single serving (ok, it's actually two but in a small container) with baby carrots, red/orange/yellow peppers and grape tomatoes. It's 4 WWpts, and I'm nicely full.

Maria :upsidedow

:cool1: Congrats Flipflopmom!!! I feel your pain on the scale. I am just stuck again. Can't even get back to where I was two weeks ago. Hang in there. I bet those 4 pounds come off quick, because of course you didn't eat 4 pounds worth of calories in one day. :goodvibes

GraciesMom--feel better soon!

I am going to the Y today--group strength and elliptical. I might be getting my haircut--I thought it was Tuesday, but have it in my calendar for today, and I'm going to start packing for our trip. Back to work on Wednesday. We leave Friday afterwork. Have a great day everyone! Hoping to see the sun today!

:grouphug: to all who are struggling! I have vowed not to step on the scale until Wednesday due to my overindulgences this weekend. I almost stepped on but put my workout clothes on instead. I'll be doing my 3 mile workout at 7:30 then I'll get DD2 ready for school and clean up the kitchen . After dropping her off I will come home and do my 4 mile workout and then get ready for work.

Not sure what we're having for supper. I may make myself a tuna sandwich on toast as that sounds good today and not too many calories. I have the flatbreads so that's what I'll use. And of course, tons of water today! That has been my saving grace in the past.

Still getting the house back in shape after the party. I'll try to finish that up. It wasn't too bad but just taking our time doing it.

DD2 has a drs appt this afternoon and then DD1 has Irish step. I hope to do some more Walk It Out tonight as well or get back on the elliptical. I still need to watch The Good Wife from last week before this week's is on!

Enjoy your day! It's going to be a beautiful day here!

Good Morning Everyone! Since I could not get on the internet all weekend (at the cabin), I feel like I am so far behind here! :goodvibes Time to catch up...

:thumbsup2 Great job to everyone who lost this past week and to everyone who is staying strong here at the end.

:grouphug: Lots of support to everyone who is struggling for one reason or another. There are so many challenges to overcome and I hope we can all end on a positive note.

I feel pretty good about my weekend. I was able to get my 11 mile run in while we were at our cabin. It was not an easy run because we did it in the afternoon when it was pretty warm out. Also, 4 miles of it was on this horrible dirt road with huge gravel that really hurt my feet. Normally I love my running shoes but for some reason 2 of my toenails really hurt and I am hoping they are not going to turn black (or worse yet...fall off).

I did eat a bit too much and will have to really get back on track for the rest of the week. I need to figure out a better solution for water at our cabin. Our water is not all that great but I don't want to buy and use all kinds of bottled water so I am thinking we need to get a water filter or something to get rid of all the junk that is in the water.

My plan for today is to bike to/from work and to do some crunches/core work today. We might also run but it would only be 3-4 miles tonight. DH and I have a million errands though so I am not sure if we will run tonight or tomorrow.

I hope everyone has a great day!
Jen

Great question on the ethnic foods. I don't get chinese very often, but when I do, I would say I don't get anything healthy. The healthiest ethnic food I would eat would be fajitas, done without cheese or sour cream, with whole wheat tortillas. Salsa is a favorite food of mine. I throw it in egg beaters many mornings, in salad to spice it up, on top of chicken and pasta. Lot's of good ideas here. I worked with a few polish girls and they always talked about their pierogies, and gawumkies and always brought them in around the holidays. We used to joke on the gawumkies which is stuffed cabbage because my mom was swedish and made them too, and called them cauldomers. I know the spelling is horrible.

Taryn- congratulations on your daughter. You should be bragging and be so proud of her. She must be in seventh heaven. I totally agree with Maria on the driving in the car and retainning fluid, and try not to stress about it, make those healthy choices, and it can be gone on friday.

Lisa-Congrats on being an official student again!!! :worship:I don't think I'd ever have the motivation to go back to school again, but like Jenn said, I'll be one of your subjects too if you need.:rotfl:

Rose- A bikini!!! Whoo hoo, you go girl!! :thumbsup2

Graciesmom- That clippie looks marvelous on you!! :cool1: Congrat on 20 pounds gone forever!!

Michael missed the bus this morning, so I'll drive him in a bit. I grilled a bunch of food last night, so I"m all set for healthy food through tomorrow. I did pick up a piece of carrot cake at the grocery store and at that last night, but at least I didn't buy the whole cake. They have alden merrel slices at market basket, and some days i just can't walk by. But I tracked it, and still have flex points left. Week days are definitely easier for me to stay on track. 4 days left of this challenge!!

Have a great day everyone.:)

Good morning all! :goodvibes

It is hard to believe that this is the last Monday of our challenge. Sounds like everyone is doing well and recovering from week-end activities.

I am also checking out SparkPeople... hopefully that will help me track more accurately. Thanks for the tip!

I love SparkPeople. I am sure that I don't make use of all the things that they have on the site but it is a great tool in my weight loss arsenal!

Sunday's QOTD: My love of the "bad" chinese foods (dumplings, lo mein, crab rangoon) prompts this question... What is your favorite healthy ethnic food?

Is this the salad that you tried, pjlla? http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=23907835&postcount=1797
You may not have to start from scratch -- there are a lot of Disney recipes online.

One of my favorite healthy ethnic foods is satays. Satays are little skewers of meat that are marinated or have a rub, grilled, and served with a little sauce for dipping. They are small and flavorful and we use them as an entree. I will have to try and find a recipe or two and post it on our BL recipe thread.

Thanks for your kind words about my new career path. I'm fortunate that University of Idaho has a program here in Coeur d'Alene. I thought about for quite awhile. Thanks to the WISH boards I found I was able to "walk the walk" so now I can go learn to "talk the talk." It will be hard but I can do it because, thanks to you guys, I know I can do anything now! :goodvibes

Favorite healthy ethnic food--I love hummus and gnocchi. Gnocchi is easy to make and you can make different flavors and all kinds of light yummy veggie sauces. I suppose like everything you can over do it but I find them to be very filling and I eat them really slow cause they are so good!

:woohoo: Mom of college kids and wearing a bikini! I love hummus and gnocchi, too.

Hope that your back feels better soon, donac! :flower3:

Thanks Lisa! And wow - good for you going back to get a nutrition degree!!! I have kicked that around for a few years but don't see it in my future...but I'm volunteering to be any type of guinea pig you need. ;)

Thanks, jennz! I may be taking you up on that! :thumbsup2

There is a personal trainer that is running a special around here. He will give you your fitness test, a written schedule to do when your not with him and 4 30 minute workouts for 120 bucks. I thought about doing it so he can teach me what I should be doing. I know I am not pushing myself enough. Anyone have any experience with a personal trainer?

Graciesmom77, that 20 lb clippie looks great on you! :thumbsup2 Hope that you are feeling better soon.

I worked with a personal trainer about 10 years ago when I was pregnant with DS. She did help me to push myself harder than I would ever have done alone. She also had a lot of ideas on how to mix things up. I know it is hard to spend money on yourself but I think that you should give it a try!

Um, I'm just curious.. are perogies really rare in the States? I have never thought of them as being more common in Canada, but they are pretty much a staple everywhere I have been here. Mostly Western Canada though... maybe that's it. And in case you were wondering (which you probably weren't), there are different types of perogies for every country in that European region... Polish and Welsh and German and all that, though Polish generally are most commonly associated with perogies. The best way (and probably least healthy) is fried with oil and then topped with sour cream and bacon bits. DBF has found a way to make them even less healthy than that... perogy poutine. I kid you not. Perogies layered with shredded cheddar cheese and gravy. Not that this is a HEALTHY ethnic food, but I am just throwing it out there (and it sure is tasty).

I don't know that I would say that pierogies are rare here, just that you don't come across them all that often. The frozen ones that everyone is talking about on the thread seem to be readily available. But I'm not that far from you and I don't see them that often except in the frozen food aisle.

Taryn, I hope that you are feeling better soon. I'm sure that long car ride did a number on your body. Congrats to your DD for being state champ and I hope you can get some rest tonight! :flower3:

I was able to get up closer to 4 than 4:30 this morning, so I got my 90 minutes of running in. I did just over 7.5M, so I'm pleased with that. I also did my favorite workouts, intervals. It's within my points range, and also gets a ton of fresh food in me.

Wow! 7.5 miles already today! And great meals all planned out! :woohoo: You are in the groove, girl!

Tigger813, glad that you enjoyed the birthday week-end and you'll be back on track in no time! :thumbsup2

Not to sound like a Biggest Loser product placement or anything, but have you tried a Brita filter? My Mom has one that fits in the fridge and holds 2 or 3 gallons.

Lisa-Congrats on being an official student again!!! :worship:I don't think I'd ever have the motivation to go back to school again, but like Jenn said, I'll be one of your subjects too if you need.:rotfl:

Thanks, Kathy! You and jennz are brave souls! :lmao:

I'm off to pack up my running clothes and think about what kinds of healthy things I am going to eat for breakfast and lunch. Dinner is poached chicken so I know that will be healthy.

Have a great day all!

Love pierogies and red pepper hummus!

Trying to get back on track tonight! About to drink my 3rd big jug of water. I did get in 2 miles playing Walk It Out! Still trying to figure it all out so I hope to try some more tomorrow afternoon.

Need to decide on what to have for supper tomorrow night. DD1 has dancing at 5 so I will probably eat with her early and get in another workout after dancing. Back to my 7-10 mile a day week! The final push is on! Can't believe the challenge ends this week! I really want to reach 145 at some point. I can't remember if my goal was 145 or 150. If I can stay focused in get all my workouts in I should make it to 150.

Not going to weigh myself until Wednesday as I'm sure I am up a bunch and I don't want to get frustrated early on this week!

Watching the Survivor finale and will probably stay up until after the winner is announced! Been a great day but a long one! DD1 asked that her birthday party next year be just like this year's! Calm and quiet!

Time for my last water! Night dear friends!

Got my Payless Shape Ups. Wore them awhile. I'll wear them more tomorrow!

How do you like the Shape Ups so far? Want to take them for a spin around the mall?

Good morning all. Sorry I have been so delinquent in my posts the past month and a half. I have been so sparatic in my exercise that yes, I did gain...big surprise surprise. A big..9 pounds in 1 1/2 months. It was very hard walking the same routes I did with my dog. It made me sad, and I would cry. So, I let my sorrow get the better of me, and I slid and slid.....until 2 weeks ago, my back started to spazum..the disks that are out were really getting to me, my leg was getting progressively number and I was getting a constant pain all the way from my back right to the top of my left foot. I decided it had been long enough, life must go on. I started walking 8 miles a day, and lost 7 of the 9 I gained. I have my yearly doc appt. on the 28th and have set my sites on being under 130 for that appointment. I am confident that I can reach that goal. I plan to walk 8 miles a day each 5 days a week. Time to get back on that horse!

Kathy - Sounds like you will be eating really healthy! Good for you! I love that you were able to buy just one slice of cake. It is such a great way to do it. :thumbsup2

I am sad that this is the last Monday of our challenge but very excited to start up with the next one.

We will be looking at the Brita filter. I know that I have heard a lot of good things about them and I need to drink more water at the cabin then I did this past weekend.

:grouphug: I am sorry that you had so much sadness. It is good that you took the time you needed to grieve but happy that you are now taking care of yourself again. It sounds like you are doing a great job at getting going again!

Well, I biked to work today and I can tell you....I must still be sore after my 11 mile run this weekend because I really felt it when I was biking! Still, it is nice to have biked 3 miles already today and know that to get home I have to bike 3 more! :thumbsup2

I have also packed a really good lunch and will be tracking all my food today. I also have the water bottle sitting right next to me already so I am good to go for a healthy day!

Happy Monday everyone!

, Redwalker. I'm so sorry that you've had to go through this sad, sad time. Your sweet dog will live on forever in your heart. :littleangel: Sounds like you did a great job getting things back under control and are ready to have a great check up at the end of the month. You can do this! :goodvibes

Hey buddy!

Glad you're back on here with us!!!! We've missed your awesome posts!

So far so good with the shapeups. I just did one of my walking workouts with them. My feet feel a bit numb but it may just be getting used to wearing them.

I'll let you know if I can meet one day this week. I have a client today but nothing the rest of the week so far.

I broke down and weighed myself thinking it might not be too bad! BOY WAS I WRONG!!!! But I stopped whining and just did my 7th mile for the day. Gotta shower and head off to work by 11 so I had better get going. Going to try and keep to 1200 calories today and at least 120oz of water. I just finished my BL Protein water and already had my smoothie. Going to eat a WW or LC for lunch before my client. I hope to do another 2 mile WATP this afternoon and 2-5 miles of Walk It Out tonight!

I'm ready to get back on track. I think I will try and really stay on track next weekend. No major plans. Gotta take DD2 to a b'day party if I don't have to work and Sunday is something as church so I will just try and not eat much or bring my own food.

TaTa For Now!

Woo hoo! I am wearing pants that I havent been able to wear since 2003!!! :cool1: I really dont think they are stylish anymore (capri length, black with light blue toile print) but I DONT CARE! Cause THEY FIT!!!

Have a great week everyone!

Wow-- I am so behind on these boards. Will try to catch up tonight and also quotd's. Been reading the last of the Twilight books. I swore I'd slow myself down on the last 2 but no dice. Asked for 3 days off this week so I could get a perm. I know it only hurts it if you wash but I'm very paranoid about the first few days--I don't want to put it in a pony tail and stre--tch my hard earned curls out. Anyway should be able to catch up on stuff I've been needing to do around the house.

Hi everyone! Sorry I have been so delinquent around here just recently - the kids' school closing abruptly, subsequent start at a new school with a shorter day and longer drive sent me more off-balance than I expected. It really has changed the terrain of my day a surprisingly lot. Follow that up with a quick trip to New England for DH's high school reunion over Mother's Day weekend and man, things have been off for a while now.

So here's what happened: I might have slipped a bit in the food department. OK, I did. I slipped in the food department a bit and had a hard time with hitting a training plan like I wanted to because the weekends were crazily full with that musical I was working on, etc. etc. etc. And I noticed my clothes were starting to feel just a bit more snug. And feeling complacent about food and being at the top of my maintenance range is NOT where I want to be at the start of this summer, which is going to be FULL of opportunities to eat freely, badly and with menu options not entirely within my control. I want my head to be in the right place going into the summer and I want my weight to be at the lower end of the maintenance range. Because it is all too easy to gain a few pounds under the circumstances and then I'd be OUT of that range if I am at the top of it to start.

So as of Saturday, I set my points back to the "losing" level - I make better choices when I don't have as many points to "play" with. I do still consider myself to be maintaining, so no need to switch teams or anything, I think - this is just the "catching myself before it goes to far" part of maintenance.

In addition to that, does anyone remember this crazy plan I had to do back to back half marathons the first weekend in June? Well, the one on the 5th got cancelled due to construction and flooding on the course, which is probably for the best. I barely feel like I'm on track for a single half marathon, let alone a double.

I'm sorry to make it all about ME this morning - there's a bunch of stuff I'm putting off even now, but I hope to catch up with everyone later on today or tomorrow! :grouphug:

Corinna--glad you're back.:goodvibes I am a schedule person, so I can imagine how hard the last few weeks have been.

Redwalker--Glad you are back too!:goodvibes

lecach--woohoo on the nsv!!!:cool1:

Back from the Y. I still don't know if my hair appointment is today or tomorrow. Luckily it's 3 minutes away, so either way will be fine. I really thought it was tomorrow, but not sure why I put it in the calendar for today.:confused3

Have a great day everyone. Still no sun. Hopefully this afternoon, if not maybe tomorrow!

Really bummed! Client had to postpone until Friday. Boss had to take her mom to the emergency room so I'm just sitting here hanging out having my LC Chicken Fettucini. Think I'll watch something on the iPod or read for awhile.

Enough whining!

Taryn

:cool1::cool1:You have every right to be proud. :cool1::cool1:

Keep pluggin along, the scale should move soon.

:wizard::wizard:To all of us struggling with the scale

:cool1::cool1:Kudos to all of those with successess

What is your favorite healthy ethnic food?

I love indian and thai food... but indian food is NOT healthy at all... and thai isn't either. So, I make my own indian and thai food at home and it's pretty freaking good and less fat and sodium and carbs.

Hi Everyone,

I have finally caught up with the thread and have a few minutes to post. The wedding was absolutely wonderful. My sister looked beautiful. We couldn't stop smiling. Everything went so smoothly. I did eat-a lot. I'm sure some of it was stress eating nor did it help that my eating schedule was quite off. I haven't weighed-in yet for the week. I'm hoping to remember to do that tomorrow. Hopefully, it won't be too bad, although I am expecting a gain.

flipflopmom-Congrats to your daughter!

Have a great day!
