Good morning everyone! :goodvibes

I found it interesting that smells can be appetite suppressantsQuotd Sunday: What's your favorite scent?

I love the smell outside the candy store on Main Street at Disneyland. (I know they pipe it out ;)) That smell just says Disneyland to me.

Today was an exciting day because I did my first walk/race -- 5 miles in 1:36:18 -- it can only get better from here. My big goal was to finish and I did. For today I am just going to congratulate myself for doing something totally out of my comfort zone -- I really can do anything I set my mind to! :goodvibes

Have a great day all!

Had my fish and chips for lunch and a few onion rings. Just had my handful of M&Ms and drinking my first big bottle of water now. Only going to eat my dinner tonight! An LOTS more water.

I will do some exercise later. I was up a bit weight wise this morning but I didn't get in any exercise this morning since I slept in after a rough night of sleeping. I will have time in the morning to work out before going to work and will also have a long period of time on Tuesday while I wait for my new dishwasher to arrive and be installed.

I work next to an Italian restaurant and MAN the smell of garlic that comes out of there is AWESOME! It definitely draws you in!!!!!!

Quotd Sunday: What's your favorite scent?

I think my favorite scent is lemon lavender. Uplifting and relaxing at the same time :lovestruc

Yes, you can! I am so proud of you! You have your first PR! :woohoo: Congratulations, Lisa! I was so not an athlete when I started -- this is one of those "If I can do it, anyone can!" -- and you aren't just anyone, and you did! :dance3: Fantastic accomplishment!

I found it interesting that smells can be appetite suppressants :

In one study of 3,193 people (84 percent of them women), participants were told to sniff green apple, banana or peppermint scents when food cravings struck. "They averaged a 2.1 percent reduction in body mass, or a 5-pound weight loss per month -30 pounds during the six-month study," Hirsch says. "Smelling something good tricks your brain into thinking you've eaten it," he explains. "What works best is the smell of the food you like best."

According to a study carried by Dr Bryan Raudenbush, an associate professor of psychology at the Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia, smelling peppermint scent could result in weight loss.
He says that in his research he found that the subjects, who inhaled peppermint before their meal consumed on an average 1,800 calories fewer over the course of a week than other individuals. ...

Peppermint scent can be used to decrease appetite, decrease hunger cravings and help people consume fewer calories which may lead to weight reduction, he says.

Quotd Sunday: What's your favorite scent?

Favorite Scent: I am very fond of tropical scents. The combinations of gardenia, pineapple and tropical florals....heavenly. I also love the smell of WDW h20 aquatics. I just finished a bottle today and it always takes me back to Disney

Thanks, Maria! :flower3: It was listening to you Ohanas chatter about races and my friend, mikamah, who helped me get off the couch and into the C25K that helped me along. I am definately one of the "if I can do it, anyone can!
crowd. :thumbsup2

So much for being good this weekend. We had communions both days and not a healthy thing to eat on either menu.

I'm baaaaacckkk, sorta! The surgery went okay. I got some great pain meds, and slept pretty much non-stop from Thursday at noon until Saturday afternoon. Stayed awake for a bit, helped DD and DH get ready to leave for a gymnastics meet, went back to Mom's, and slept until10 this morning. Havent' been back asleep yet, or taken pain meds since, and it is starting to catch up to me. Scared to weigh, b/c I've eaten lots of yogurts, jellos, ice creams, etc. and done nothing but sleep, but it was a necessary evil. Mom said as the dr. was wheeling me out to the car post-op I asked him when I could run. They both found that hilarious. He said Monday, don't know if I'll be up for that tomorrow or not. DD got 4th on vault at her meet, they should be home around 11 tonight. LONG weekend for DH, he worked yesterday and then made the 4 hour drive to her meet. I'm rambling, time to get some meds and go to bed!

Just wanted to say hey!

Glad to hear you're doing well flipflopmom! Take care of yourself!

On my last jug of water for the day. Had 4 pancakes and some bacon for supper. Then I just ate a chocolate chip cookie. Only snack thing I've eaten all day.

Decided not to work out today. Going to get up at 5:15 and do a 4 mile workout and then after taking DD2 to school I will come back and do 2-3 more miles before heading to work to give a hot stone massage. DD1 has Irish Step Dance at 5. Gonna have some Trader Joe's Orange Chicken for supper. Lunch will be a Lean Cuisine or Weight Watchers Meal. Gonna have my protein drink and a granola bar for breakfast. Not sure what snacks will be.

Gonna work really hard to keep under control this week despite it being PMS week. I soooo want to hit my goal by the end of the challenge! I feel very strongly about staying focused and reaching my goal! I am strong and can do this!!!!!

I did not have any more alcohol this weekend. I will limit it next weekend as well. I didn't miss it this weekend so maybe if I have just one drink on Friday I will get through the weekend. The most important thing is for me to accomplish my goal!

Have a great Monday!!!!!:yay:

Glad to hear that things went well. I loved that you asked about running :lmao:, that is something I totally would do at this point!

Tracey - You are strong and you CAN do this! I am going to work at staying focused this week as well and with everyone here...we WILL hit our goals! :thumbsup2

That's how I feel too jen! With all this support we can do nothing but SUCCEED!

Planning on heading to bed in the next 30 minutes so I can get up at 5:15 to work out!

Ahhh...just took a nice long bath with tons of soothing stuff for my skin. I swear that I am so hard on my body sometimes that I need to remind it that I still do like it!

Yesterday we went up north to our cabin (it is about 3 hours away). Since the weather has been nice we decided to open it up. I also set everything else back up for the season. This weekend was actually kind of cool and rainy but it was fun to go and be able to think about "cabin season".

I was happy that DH and I got up early and did our run up at the lake. I had thought we would possibly talk ourselves out of it but we didn't. We ran 6 miles (1:06 / 10:57 pace). I was really happy with that pace because my cough is still really bothering me and at one point we had to stop and walk for .25 miles because I could not stop coughing. We got it done though and I felt really happy that we did.

I am planning on biking to work tomorrow (6 miles total workout) and doing a 3 mile run in the evening. DH and I have to stay on task if we are going to run the 1/2 marathon in June.

Glad to say that I finally lost 1 pound this week. I wish it was more but I will be happy with the loss. I feel like I have just been in a maintaining sort of mode lately and it is time to realize there is still work to do.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
Jen

That is great! To get it all together like that is amazing in itself. The physical part--well... congratulations.

Jug? Lordy you're making me feel guilty, I hardly drank any water today. It sounds like you are doing what works for you- you do it pretty well y'know.;)

All you that do this-(the runs) I think it's great. I kind of poked around a bit and found them to cost money ( I am Very cheap) Plus my work schedule wouldn't allow anyway--it's all over the place.
Just think how nice it is to maintain. Once you're there it'll be easy for you.

I had kind of a down day today.
A co-worker started talking movies with me and I decided to make this a movie related question since--it's what I do. What are your 3 favorite inspirational movies? Ones that stay with you. Off the top of my head Norma Rae comes to mind first. I think about that movie a lot. I know it's because I'm in a union and we are fighting for our lives so much but also because I'm a woman steward. I haven't seen it for years...maybe it's time for netflix...all the places I would rent from are pretty much gone around here. Second...Terms of Endearment. I know weird choice sorta but it inspires me as far as fighting for your loved ones go. Just always staying...no matter what.
Third, Xanadu. Lol! It was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid and it really kindled the need to be free. Also Sonny's "Tuesdays Wednesday." walk out moment. It made a huge point in how important is is to find something to do you really love. Wouldn't that be nice?

quotd monday: What are your 3 favorite inspirational movies?

BTW LisaH-- I asked on the main Disney board about the wine tasting again and it sounds really fun, you just walk up to the counter apparently and make reservations. It's an afternoon thing so that would be nice to sit and cool off for a bit. They recommend going on tower of terror right after lol.

Good morning everyone.

maiziezoe :banana::banana::banana:Happy Birthday

flipflopmom glad the surgery went well. Take care of yourself.

quotd monday: What are your 3 favorite inspirational movies? Two of these I show to my AP classes after they take their exam so they are on my mind. Apollo 13 which is a great movie to show team work. Stand and Deliver about the calculus teacher in Los ANgeles who taught the kids to do calculus against all odds. The inspiration for this movie just died last month Jamie Escalante. I have to think about the last one. I will get back to you.

Off to get ready for work. Be back after school

jen - Great job on your training! Running at the lake sounds heavenly!
I'm still trying to figure out how to gradually increase my distance. Did you go up a mile a week?

tigger - As DD's gymnastics friends say before an event "You got this". I can read your determination, you are doing great!

Morning everyone else! Well, the scale went up 2 pounds. That's about what I had thought, especially since TOM paid it's visit as I was waiting to be called back for surgery. I hope I can get it off by the end of the week, but I reallly don't feel up to pushing myself just yet.

Since I am still in a fog, here are some random QOTD's I vaguely remember:
Princess - for me, it's all about Cinderella. I mean, the castle, the Prince, the Fairy Godmother, the blue dress...;)

smells - lavendar is my go-to calming smell, but I love spring flowers like jasmine, hyacinth, etc. also. Peppermint is my energizing scent. I've actually put a drop of peppermint oil under my nose before a run if I was feeling sluggish. My favorite food smell is coffee!

3 Inspirational Movies - that's tough for me, because I typically watch chick flicks. Don't think Pretty Woman or Dirty Dancing should really inspire anyone. :) Stand and Deliver was a good one. I think The Bucket List, because it helps me realize that there are things out there to be done, and I don't know about "someday". I actually really like Princess and the Frog, because it's all about working hard for your dreams.

Thanks 50sjayne! The jug is the big water bottle I got after delivering one of my DDs. It's quite large and insulated! With a long straw. I seem to do batter with the water when I have a straw!

QOTD: Inspirational movies: 1)Miracle- NEVER GIVE UP NO MATTER WHAT OTHERS SAY! 2) Fever Pitch- Pretty much the same message! The Sox that year were amazing and despite what the sportscasters said they WON IT ALL! 3) Apollo 13- When the space craft lifts off, I always tear up!

Just finished 3 miles and drinking some water. Will do more later this morning and tonight plus give a hot stone massage. Despite not drinking this weekend, my weight was up a lot. PMS is kicking in but I'm going to fight it tooth and nail! Going to write down all my food all week and count my calories meticulously! I don't want to shop for summer clothes until I've reached my goal!

Congratulations Lisa!! :cool1: You did amazing yesterday and should be so proud. I to am a member of that "if I can do it, anyone can" club. We all can do whatever we set our minds to!!

So glad your surgery went well, and you are doing ok. Take those drug as long as you need to, and don't worry about the weight gain. You'll lose it once you're able to be more active again.

I had kind of a down day today.

Sorry you've had a tough day. Hope today is better.

favorite scents- Vanilla and cinnamon, clove type spices. I chuckle to myself when I hear peppermint because years ago when someone could pee after surgery we'd put spirit of peppermint in the bowl, and it would make them go. I'm the type that goes when I laugh too hard, so I would stay away from peppermint.:rotfl:

Inspirational movies- City of Angels is my favorite movie, it's so sad, but inspiring in the risk you take when you love someone so deeply is worth the risk of the pain in losing that person. And also that you can feel so sad at a loss, and in time that pain will heal, and you will be able to live again. I'll have to think of some others.

:bday:maiziezoe!! Hope you have a fun day!!

We are back to school after break today, but michael is sleeping late, so I'll drive him today. Gotta adjust slowly. I'll take a short run after I drop him off. Was hoping for a long one, but don't want to wake him up too early and have a cranky boy.

Have a great day everyone.

I had kind of a down day today.

Here's hoping for an UP sort of day for you! :goodvibes

Off to get ready for work. Be back after school

Have a great day at school today! I am counting down the days until we are done.

jen - Great job on your training! Running at the lake sounds heavenly! I'm still trying to figure out how to gradually increase my distance. Did you go up a mile a week?

Running at the lake was so nice, mainly because it was something new to look at. We have been adding a mile a week. The only problem is that at that rate we will not get up to the 1/2 marathon distance we need because we missed a bit of training. We are trying to figure out how to get in 2 extra miles.

Despite not drinking this weekend, my weight was up a lot. PMS is kicking in but I'm going to fight it tooth and nail! Going to write down all my food all week and count my calories meticulously! I don't want to shop for summer clothes until I've reached my goal!

You go girl! Love your determination right now! It is going to motivate me to be sure I do the same.

Hope you had a nice break from school - I hate the transition of getting back into the swing of things. Enjoy your run today!

maiziezoe - Happy Birthday :cool1:

Time for me to get ready for work. I need to spend a bit of time with DD...it is her 14th birthday today! Then, I want to bike to work today to get an extra 6 miles in. We have a field trip for school so I have a few extra things to get ready this morning.

Hope everyone has a great day!
Jen
