Biggest Loser 9 Spring challenge -- Part 2! HERE WE ARE! :)

50sjayne--great pictures! :grouphug: good luck dealing with your personal stuff.

My dh is running a half-marathon this morning. He got up at 4:30 to meet the guy he's running with. I am really excited for him, because he wanted to do this for a long time and he's in great shape. They did a 12.5 mile run a couple of weeks ago, so they are ready. It is raining a little, so fingers crossed that it lets up a little for the race. I run some on the treadmill, and I feel like I'm running on the elliptical ;) and he wants to start running together after the race is over. We have plans to go for a short run tomorrow if he's feeling good.

I cheated last night and had two beers. Just such a loooong week. I'm back on the no alcohol until our trip for our anniversary. I'm weighing in this morning when I finally get up. Debating going to the Y this morning or going back to sleep! I should hear about the heart monitor next week. Someone mentioned thyroid--all the blood work came back normal. So we'll see.

Kind of a tmi question, but has anyone else had extremely irregular tom after they'd lost some weight? This happened last time I got down around this weight. When I gained it back things went back to normal. I talked to my doctor last time and she suggested going on the pill. I read something once that we store estrogen in belly fat, and I am just starting to drop belly fat--I lost everywhere else first, so don't know if that has something to do with it or not.

Have a great day. I'm thinking I will go to the Y and then go back to bed.:goodvibes

QOTD for Saturday: My favorite overweight star?

I guess the simple answer is that I don't have one. I don't look at people as overweight or underweight, they simply are who they are.

I'm up early as I've got some very stressful stuff happening at work and I woke up at 4:30 thinking about it and couldn't get back to sleep  I think I might dig out a pilates dvd and head downstairs to work out.

Good morning everyone.

:grouphug: to any one going through some tough times. It has been very stressful here in jersey since dh and I are both school teachers. I am trying not to think of it this weekend.

This is a big weekend for us here. Ds2 came home from college yesterday and we went out to dinner to celebrate. Ds1 had his last day at jcpenneys and Monday he starts a new job at a pharmacutical company. He also celebrates his 25th birthday on Sunday. We are giving him some money for his trip to DW in AUg as a birthday present.

Yesterday was also the 35th anniversary of dh and I. 35 years ago dh put a rose on my desk in our prob and stat class. I got a rose on Thursday night and put it in his truck with a card (like he is going to remember the date. He still has problems remembering exactly what day my birthday is. He knows it is at the end of May)

Off to sew today. We are having another pillowcase day. I have to go eat breakfast and then pack some fruits and veggies for lunch. Last time I baked but then we a few other people did to so I decided not to bake this time. Less to be tempted with. Ds1 brought a giant chocolate chip cookie home from someone at his old job so that is still in my kitchen.

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning all,

I cheated a bit last night. I had a small glass of Mint Irish Creme on ice when I went to bed. I just wanted something relaxing. I also had a small sip of a beer and cider drink my husband made for himself and finished the last sip of the cider in the bottle. It was tasty but I was satisfied afterward!

Was sleeping well until 3 when DD2 knocked something over in her room while asleep. It woke DH up who got up to check so then I got up to visit the bathroom and then it took me forever to get back to sleep. I had Avatar running through my mind too!

DH and DD1 will be off to their soccer game in 45 minutes and then we will leave here at 9:40 to go to the dump and then DD2s soccer game. DD1 and DH will also stop and look at dishwashers as we need a new one and are registered for the state rebates for replacing old clunkers! Ours is definitely that!

Will do a 3 miles workout after they leave. Will bring a granola bar to eat during the game and have some green tea too! That should keep me warm.

Time to fix breakfast for DD2. I also have to work this afternoon.

Pancakes and bacon for supper tonight!

Good saturday morning everyone. I feel like it's been ages since i posted here. I came on yesterday when I was halfway through washing my windows, I said I'd give myself some dis time half way, and the boards were down for an upgrade, so I didn't get back.

I would also like to give a huge thank you to Shannon, Dona, and Lisa who all keep these challenges running. You all dedicate so much of your time to us, and I truly appreciate it. So many of us are helped by your generosity.:flower3::flower3::flower3:

Thank you CClovesdisney for coaching last week, and welcome 50sjayne and thanks for coaching this week.

it is definitely possible to make huge strides with the running and then put the diet pieces together later. The more you run, the more you will realize how much more pleasant it would be to run if you weren't carrying the extra weight.
Thank you corinna. I often think how much easier the running will be when I lose some more weight, and know that I will get there in time.
I'm glad you and the kids are doing ok with your school adjustments. Hang in there.

Hi! I would love to join --it would be the LOSER group the last time I did this I was successful but I was dumb and stopped--I also went to Disney and the drinks and food didn't help ( but it didn't hurt ---I loved it!) I will PM my weight to luvBaloo....hope it's not to late!
Welcome to our challenge. As others have said it's never too late, the more the merrier.

Well, the car is packed up for my crazy 24 hour NYC trip. I tried to think ahead about healthy eating, but I was stressing myself trying to get food packed with my crazy schedule this week, so I decided to give myself a bit of a break and only packed one meal. We will be eating with my parents tonight (a pit stop along the way), breakfast is provided free with the hotel room (probably won't be the healthiest, but I'll make the best choices I can), and I have a healthy lunch packed up to bring along tomorrow (I anticipate that we will be waiting in line to see Mr. Phelps for a while!! :lmao:). I have some healthy and not-so-healthy snacks packed up for the road trip, and we will stop somewhere for dinner on the way home Saturday night (maybe with my parents again, depending on the timing). Overall it won't be too bad I suppose. I also packed water and seltzer and fruit and carrots, so I will have plenty of the basics handy.
Have a wonderful trip. You always have such a healthy plan when you're going away. Guess that's a big part of your success.
Rough night again with DD2. She woke up crying and ended up throwing up 4 times! UGH! After she got sick the last time she was fine and fell right to sleep. She slept on the floor of the living room and I slept on the couch. Slept better than I expected.
Hope she's feeling better soon. Boy, you're house sure gets the stomach bug a lot.

I was a samer this week but I'm okay with that. I do need to lose 5 more pounds to get to my goal and be on track for my July goal.

I have my first walk/race on Sunday and am raring to go. :cool1:
you'll reach your goal, Lisa, you can do it!! Good luck in your race tomorrow!! Are the men as raring to go as you are? Have fun!!

So quotd: Which disney princess would you most like to look like?
Jasmine- beautiful and exotic, with an adventurous boyfriend at her side.:rotfl:

I'm frustrated. The scale didn't move for me this week. Frustrated.
 That scale doesn't always show our hard work every week. Hang in there. You should see a good loss next week.

his is me in Palm springs with my daughter the day after Easter Sunday this year: (we liked the very Brown Mary and Jesus)

You look amazing. Congratulations on your loss, and maintaining it. Nice work.

Sat. Question of the Day:

Who is your favorite overweight female celebrity?
I think I would say Oprah. She has had her battle with weight out in the public spotlight for so long, and she seems to have settled into a good weight for her, and found her balance.

Yesterday was also the 35th anniversary of dh and I. 35 years ago dh put a rose on my desk in our prob and stat class. I got a rose on Thursday night and put it in his truck with a card (like he is going to remember the date. He still has problems remembering exactly what day my birthday is. He knows it is at the end of May)
Happy Anniversary. What a sweet memory.

Yay, Michael's up now, so we'll go out so I can do my run before his basketball clinic. If he slept much later we wouldn't have had time, and when I don't get out early to run, it's too easy to skip later in the day.

Have a nice weekend.:)

So quotd: Which disney princess would you most like to look like?

This is a tough one, because none of them really look like me, and I like the way I look! I guess I'll say Jasmine, but I think I'd put a little more cloth on that figure. Well, maybe not if I had it! ;)

Sat. Question of the Day: Who is your favorite overweight female celebrity?

I'm trying to think of an "overweight female celebrity". I tend to not think of them in those terms, so I'm drawing a blank. I will say I was very proud of Jennifer Love Hewitt when the press tried to brand her as overweight and she came out swinging. She's since lost the little bit of extra she had (and only in that world would a size 4 be considered having "extra"), but I thought she looked great and was a great role model. As far as on tv shows I actually watch, I guess Chandra Wilson might be considered overweight, but I think she looks pretty good, and definitely has a more realistic figure than what you usually see with celebrities.

I did my LR of 8M yesterday, so I could sleep in today and do something light when I got up. I was exhausted and asleep by 9:30, and up again at 7:30, so I guess sleeping late for me isn't probably all that late, but I did get 10 hours of sleep. I haven't decided what I'm going to do today yet, I just had a bowl of Special K and a cup of hot tea. The sun is shining brightly and I feel like I want to get out and enjoy the day!

Oh! And I had a moment yesterday that I'm proud of -- ds and I spent the day together and he wanted to go to Friendly's for lunch. I had a salad with grilled chicken, apples, cranberrys, walnuts and bleu cheese, and I only ate half! Then it was time for dessert (Friendly's is known for their ice cream), they had a new deep chocolate lava cake filled with caramel, surrounded by three scoops of nuts over caramel ice cream (vanilla ice cream with caramel, nuts and tiny caramel cups enrobed in chocolate), topped with whipped cream, slivered almonds and a cherry. Yes, it was calling my name! I ignored it and had a scoop of watermelon sherbet. That was a NSV!

Good Morning Everyone! Wow! It has been so long since I posted. This was a really tough week for me with my cold and cough. I felt so bad at the start of the week - could not stop coughing and it burned so bad. Towards the middle of the week I was starting to feel better but by the time evening came, I was wiped out. It is now one week later and I still have the cough, but I finally think that I am getting better.

The worse part is that while I was not feeling well I had the munchies for foods that were not that good for me. Thankfully I kept track of everything and did not go overboard and I was able to lose 1 pound this week.

Here is a non-scale victory story with a happy but sad ending:
So, last night my DD's jeans were laying on the chair in the living room. I sat looking at them for a while and suddenly announced that I was going to try them on. DH laughed and said "yeah right"...meaning that there was no way I would fit in them. That alone made me decide that I had to try and I went into the bathroom to put them on and . . .they fit! I came out and showed DH that they fit and he could not believe it (me neither really). Here comes the sad part...DD comes downstairs and sees me in her pants and she looks at herself and looks at me and looks at herself and looks at me and she says that she needs to lose some weight! Oh my! My DD is 13 and she is actually taller then me by a little bit. She dances 5-6 days a week and is not at all overweight - she is solid and muscular but not overweight. I felt so bad that I had caused her to feel bad about herself and I felt horrible that she is already thinking about diets at age 13. I quickly told her no way and showed her that her other "skinny" cut jeans did not fit me at all. We talked for a bit and she seems fine with everything but it was still a bit bittersweet to me.

My other thought about the experience was my perception of myself. I have been wearing size 12 and 14 jeans even though they have been big. I have not wanted to try even a size 10 jeans because I did not want to disappoint myself if they did not fit...in fact, I had convinced myself that size 10 jeans would not fit me. I also thought that I would have rolls going over the edges of my jeans if I tried to go down a size and I would look "fat" all over again. Turns out, DD's jeans are a size 8. When I put them on, I finally realized that I don't look "fat" and that I don't have horrible rolls and that I have changed the way I look. It made me think that I should stop being so hard on myself and begin to have a few more positive thoughts.

Alright - I will come on later and try to answer all my missed QOTDs and be a bit more active not that I am feeling better!

Happy Saturday everyone!
Jen

Good morning everyone! :goodvibes

Thank you, Susan, for being our coach this week!

So quotd: Which disney princess would you most like to look like?

I would have to say Cinderella is the Disney princess I would most like to look like -- I've had a thing about her and her beautiful blue dress ever since I was a little girl. Regretably, I am more like the fairy godmother these days in size and hair color! :lmao:

lisah0711- That's a "WISH" to be a maintainer! Got a few more to go and hopefully I will get there in the next 4 weeks. Hoping that laying off the booze will help me this week! Though PMS is starting in!

I know that you will be a maintainer sooner rather than later, Tracey! :cool2:

I'm frustrated. The scale didn't move for me this week. Frustrated.

 Sorry you are frustrated, Ann. That scale will be moving down again soon!

To the someone with the allergies--I think it made national news this year that it has been the absolute worst allergy season ever this year....yes the rain helps but you certainly want other help with it. I'm out of flonase myself and don't want to get any more this year so I'm hoping the worst of it has passed around my area. I'm almost out of honey which I use a lot any more so I will go out to the farms and get some local honey--they say that helps. I'll also just use benadryl at night if it gets bad.

Lisah H--Yes I am so pleased at my control this year --it was really healthy food though as well-- it always is. Stayed out of the bar as there was someone performing this year and no karaoke and I won $50 in a drawing!

I believe the allergies statement -- ours are the pits already and we still haven't even started on tree pollens yet! :scared1: In another week or two here we will have pine tree pollen that will turn the air yellow for a week or so.

I'm glad that you had a good time at your summit and won $50! :)

And I really loved your pictures. Your smile is brighter than your daughter's blue hair! You looked great and are doing a super job of maintaining! :thumbsup2

Okay, I'm going to stay focussed this weekend and get onto the computer onto here. I was down 0.4lbs this morning :cool1: I'm back to my starting weight in January. I had planned to go out for lunch today and I did, but I had a 23point milkshake :scared1: as I didn't check the points before going. It did taste delicious and its the start of a new week, so there went a bunch of my flex points. Oh, well, it was better for me than giving in to the craving for chips that I've been having.

Wow! 23 points -- I'm glad it tasted good. It's good to have something that you really like when you have those treats. What really torques me is when you have something with a lot of points or calories and realize that you didn't even enjoy it that much! :scared:

Kind of a tmi question, but has anyone else had extremely irregular tom after they'd lost some weight? This happened last time I got down around this weight. When I gained it back things went back to normal. I talked to my doctor last time and she suggested going on the pill. I read something once that we store estrogen in belly fat, and I am just starting to drop belly fat--I lost everywhere else first, so don't know if that has something to do with it or not.

Sending good thoughts for your test results next week. :flower3:

Perimenopause can do some weird things to your body so it might be a hormonal thing as opposed to a weight thing. Nice to be losing belly fat! :)

I'm up early as I've got some very stressful stuff happening at work and I woke up at 4:30 thinking about it and couldn't get back to sleep  I think I might dig out a pilates dvd and head downstairs to work out.

 Hope your work stress goes away soon!

Happy Anniversary, donac! 35 years is an accomplishment! :flower3:

you'll reach your goal, Lisa, you can do it!! Good luck in your race tomorrow!! Are the men as raring to go as you are? Have fun!!)

Thanks, Kathy! We picked up our bibs and shirts this morning. No packet, no time requirements -- should be fun! The men are taking one for the team but I think they will have fun once they get going. ;)

I'm glad that you are feeling better, jenanderson. Sounds like a nasty bug. Congrats on the pants size and  about your daughter. I'm sure she has plenty of teenage friends to add to the whole body image thing but remember, she is very fortunate because she has a Mom who takes care of herself and does the right thing as an example so she is miles ahead! :flower3:

Have a wonderful day all!

Rose&Mike;36389672]50sjayne--great pictures! :grouphug: good luck dealing with your personal stuff.

Unless you need the pill for other reasons.....:) I wouldn't recommend it. Being on the pill increases your appetite. I will testify to that- I just quit after being on it for about 20 years. Do some research-- the cons outweighed the good for me. Mine have evened out some since I've been maintaining. It's disconcerting because I was used to the thing magically appearing every 28 days. All the old stuff-- some acne, cramping and heavy flow is back --I haven't had to deal with all that since I was a teen.

Good morning everyone.

As a teen I always was looking for iconic figures who were women and not skinny. I really loved the coke trays that featured a more well rounded woman. I loved Delta Burke and there was a black actress on some sitcom I watched that was well rounded who played a 'sexy' character-- she was kind of like Niecy Nash (who I also love). I also really got into the early sex bombs--Jayne Mansfield (my screen name's inspiration) Marilyn of course, all of those who would have been considered fat in the anorexic tanned blond 80's. I also loved Rosanne-- took some bravery.
I hope you have a lovely day and good for you on your choices. "You're making good choices!"

It sounds like you did well with your daughter. I know how you felt about the pants though I was doing the same thing until we went to Palm Springs and I had to get serious about sizes. I probably tried on 4 pairs of pants until I was convinced I was wearing 10's. Then I tried on at least 50 pairs and was delighted every time. I fit into 10's and 12's depending on the pants but really it's mostly 10's. It is so great!

Thanks everyone for the support. It did kind of shake me up a bit but I think whatever was there is finally gone. I mean when you look at a hopeless situation that turns into something that is an impossible situation...you just have to accept it and wish them the best. That's what it's about right? If you really care for someone.
Kept myself busy last night poking around the jewelry for gold to send in today. I came up with a huge Albertson ring I got as my 15 year prize or something--it is huge--I didn't know my ring size. I've got my first wedding ring that I lost the stone from (cat ate it long story), a mans ring I found dumpster diving our wealthiest neghborhood, lots of earrings my Mom gave me awhile back that I wouldn't wear but they are all gold because her ears are sensitive, some stuff my aunt sent, & some chains. I had fun checking everything with a magnet--if it sticks it isn't gold lol. There's a thread on the budget board about ladies doing this and usgoldbuyers seem to be the best as far as payout goes--lots of ladies have had great results. Anyway-- that'll keep me busy today until work. I've been putting this off for awhile so this is good.

Was doing well today food wise until we ended up going to 99 for supper! I had a prosciutto and mozzarella burger and then split a kids dessert with DH and helped DD1 finish hers. I was just starving. Oh well, at least I didn't have a drink! I need to drink water the rest of the day!

We went out for supper after we bought a new dishwasher. We were going to go to Best Buy but ended up at the little appliance store down the street. It was much more convenient. Then went to the 99 about 3 miles down the road.

I did get in 4 miles this morning so hopefully my metabolism will help me out a bit. I was up a bit this morning from yesterday. I will be eating lunch out tomorrow. Planning on some fish and chips before doing our Give a Day volunteer activity. Planning on pancakes and bacon for supper. I hope to get in a workout before church tomorrow and then one when we get back from our volunteering. I will drink tons of water tomorrow.

Time to read some more Kingdom Keepers 3 before watching Dr. Who with the family! And to drink my bottle of water in the fridge!

Enjoy the rest of your day everyone! Starting to cool off here! Rain coming in for Monday and Tuesday.

Oh yeah, QOTD: I think for overweight celebrities I would have to pick Valerie Bertinelli and Marie Osmond for sharing their weight loss battles and succeeding! Hope they can keep it up! They have inspired me to keep trying.I also like Queen Latifah! She has such a great attitude!

I found it interesting that smells can be appetite suppressants :

In one study of 3,193 people (84 percent of them women), participants were told to sniff green apple, banana or peppermint scents when food cravings struck. "They averaged a 2.1 percent reduction in body mass, or a 5-pound weight loss per month -30 pounds during the six-month study," Hirsch says. "Smelling something good tricks your brain into thinking you've eaten it," he explains. "What works best is the smell of the food you like best."

According to a study carried by Dr Bryan Raudenbush, an associate professor of psychology at the Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia, smelling peppermint scent could result in weight loss.
He says that in his research he found that the subjects, who inhaled peppermint before their meal consumed on an average 1,800 calories fewer over the course of a week than other individuals. ...

Peppermint scent can be used to decrease appetite, decrease hunger cravings and help people consume fewer calories which may lead to weight reduction, he says.

Quotd Sunday: What's your favorite scent?

QOTD: It's strange but I love the smell of hazelnut coffee but hate the taste of it! I use lavender on most of my female massage clients. I have some eucalyptus essential oil that I love when congestion is a problem. I also love peppermint. I should try that to help suppress my appetite! I was famished yesterday.

I'll be eating fish and chips for lunch today and pancakes and bacon for supper! I will drink lots of water and get in my workouts later this afternoon and evening. May try the elliptical again as my knee is feeling better. I'll take it slow and easy though.

Time to make my protein drink and find something the eat with it!

Have a wonderful Sunday friends!

Rainy here on the east coast but not the severe weather the rest of the country had yesterday. It was beautiful here yesterday and I spent it inside. I was at a charity seing event. We were making pillowcases for kids with cancer. A quilting magazine has challenged quilter to make 1 million pillowcases for this cause. My quilt shop has pledged 1000. As of yesterday we are at 658. we made 100 yesterday and 53 were brought in last week by people who couldn't be there. THere were only about 6 people sewing and one person cutting all the time so I think we did okay with the sewing.

Ds's 25th birthday today. When did that happen:scared1: He won't be home for dinner(got to see the girlfriend). We went out with him and his brother on Friday. Should be a pretty quiet day. Ds2 will be leaving soon to go back to college. I have to do some grocery shopping but after that it will be very layed back.

I am thinking of doing something with seafood for dinner since ds1 will not be here. I am trying to plan out the week. I know one day we need to go mow s-inlaw's lawn so that will be an eat out day. We love Roy Rogers and there is none except by her house. So we go mow her lawn and then have dinner there. DH loves their roast beef sandwiches.

QOTD Apple pie

Have a great day everyone.

Happy birthday to your son! Today is my moms birthday. We're going to her house later for dinner and to celebrate birthday's (my brothers was 4/22, moms is 4/25 and mine is 4/26). She is making a healthy dinner so I asked her what she wanted me to bring, thinking she would say a salad or something... she told me to bring a Dairy Queen ice cream cake! What?!?! My family is odd.

Good morning!

Today is the 6th day in a row that I have woken up with a headache. I have literally spent the last 40 minutes sitting at my computer playing FB poker waiting for my headache to go away.

Last night my nutritionist (who I lovingly call Duckie Dale) came over for dinner. I made a huge Indian dinner without using any oils or ghee (Indian butter). It was all low fat and it turned out pretty good. Duckie and my DH loved it. I can still smell curry coming out of my pores.

QOTD Saturday: Favorite overweight actress?

Probably Oprah or Rosie O'Donnell.

Quotd Sunday: What's your favorite scent?

Newborn babies and my 3 year old after she has a shower.

donac--hope your son has a great birthday!

maizezoe--hope the headache goes away.

favorite scent--pumpkin pie and oranges--but right not I can't smell anything! Silly allergies.;)

Went for a run with dh today. Did ok, given that breathing is a chore right now.:lmao: We are considering the Wine and Dine mini in October. I know dh could do it, but I'm on the fence because of the heat. We ran 3.6 today, and did 4.8 total miles (.6 at the beginning and the end).

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Everyone!

Hope your weekend is going well. I have no idea where yesterday went. I have been very OP! Had a small gain, but no biggie. I'm hoping for about a 1.5 pound loss this week so I can be about where I was when I went for my fitting. Then, it's maintaining until the wedding.

QOTD: I love cinnamon and peppermint, though not necessarily together.

Have a great day everyone!

If I go shopping and I'm hungry, either I get too much cause it all looks good, or I don't get enough, as I want to get it over fast and get home and eat. :lmao:

Have a great day everybody! The week has started off not great for food, as I've used up all my flex points in only 2 days. But its been good for exercise as I've been getting in more exercise and can really feel it in my arms today. Time to get off here and get outside and do some yardwork (more exercise!)

Have a great day everybody.
