Biggest Loser 9 Spring challenge -- Part 2! HERE WE ARE! :)

LMDisneygirl - You can join anytime! I just joined a month ago and now this is my #1 spot to go to , to complain, get advice and share my accomplishment! Thanks guys!!!

Thanks! Now I have a few quick questions. First I want to make sure I'm in the right place. I don't want to drag you all down. I have a lot of weight I could lose, and I would currently consider it a victory to order the kids burger and fries rather than the extra value meal! I wouldn't fit in very well with an "Oh my goodness, I put too many sugary raw carrots on my salad" group. Not that I don't applaud people who are so self-controlled. It's just not anywhere near where I am at. I could never understand it when people were at WW complaining that they just couldn't eat all of their points. I'm thinking "just go grab a ho-ho and you'll be there"! :) Okay, kind of kidding on that one, but I've never had a problem fitting in enough food! That being said, I know that you do need to make changes to have real (and permanent) weight loss.

As I said, I have LOTS of pounds to lose. We are going to DW in August, and I know I will be SO MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE if I lose weight and start exercising before then.

So, am I in the right place? And if so, let me know what I need to know (or where I should look for the info I need to know) to get started. I see that there are about 5 weeks left in this challenge. If I put in a little effort I could make some decent progress in that time, right? Right!

BTW - I told my boys the other day that I was going to put a chart on the fridge, and for every pound I lost before our trip they would get an extra dollar for souvenirs! Then I proceeded to have Jet's pizza for lunch, and McDonald's for dinner. UGH!!!!! Better make and print that chart and get it in sight (not with my actual weight, of course, but with a starting point to work from).

Thanks Everyone! I'm needing to make a change.

:welcome: LMDisneyGirl! I think that you are in the right place but you may want to read here http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=34666127&postcount=1 to see how the challenge works and see for yourself. We have lots of participants, some who need to lose a lot of weight, some who have lost lots of weight, folks in between and our maintainers group, who reached their goal and are maintaining. You can participate as much or as little as you like.

This is a good place for accountability and support. No one will complain about too many carrots on their salad but we are plain speaking folk at times. ;) This quote from how the challenge works gives you a good idea of what you can expect:

You will get out of this challenge what you put into it. If you get serious and use this program it CAN and WILL help you lose weight. As you make choices during the day consider what your fellow losers would do. They would say no to the doughnut at the office but they would find time to get some exercise even if they are tired after a long day. Losing weight is not a 'quick fix'. It takes time, commitment, and lots of hard work. Our Biggest Loser 9 Spring Challenge is here to help you.

You can do it! We can help! Set a goal of 10 lbs and give it a try for the next few weeks! :hippie:

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::
:cheer2: You are in the right place! ::yes::
:cheer2: You can make a change in the 5weeks left! ::yes::
:cheer2: You can continue to make changes as we end this challenge next month and move into our summer challenge! ::yes::

We are all "real" people and cover the whole spectrum of eating styles. Some are doing weight watchers, some are into organic, some journal all their food/exercise, and some don't. We range from exercising at least an hour a day, to hardly exercising at all.
Overall we are here to help each other, provide support, provide ideas, be a safe place to vent, and have some fun along the way.:goodvibes

And ::yes:: to have a permanent change, you have make changes but they have to be realistic changes you can live with, and that's the main theme I've gotten from doing a few of these BL challenges. :cheer2:

The first page in the thread should provide all the basic information you need. Lisah0711 keeps us organized and has links in the first page to all the results post and COW information. Donac organizes the COW which is a great thing to help us thinking of good for us things (ie drink water!)

I am the weightkeeper, and if you will PM me your weight (official weigh in day is FRIDAYs) you will be in the records. Tonight I'll be posting the results from last Friday. If you know your starting weight you can jump in now. :goodvibes
Late weigh in's are accepted. (as long as it comes in before I post results it is included, if it comes in after the results, I'll accept it, I just don't edit the results post). :goodvibes

If you have any questions  post them at any time, and somebody will answer them.

:welcome: to BL9!

(and by the way, I am doing WW and I have never said "I can't eat all my points" :goodvibes and I still like McDonalds/A&W and do still eat there, just not as much as a year ago)

I need to make more time for this thread. I co-planned an event with some of my college friends for this year's graduating seniors. It was a pizza party. Not so great for my losing weight attempt. I guess I'm more upset about how I looked in my maid-of-honor dress because I keep eating and eating and eating. You get the picture. Today I ate 2 bakery sized muffins, half a bagel, a whole container of cookies (that have 25% of your saturated fat in for every 2), and then some. I haven't even eaten dinner yet. I'm chewing gum now. That seems to be keeping me from eating. That and writing this.

Yesterday's QOTD: I'm an emotional eater and a binge eater. (Are they the same? When I'm emotional, I binge, but I also binge when I think I'm find emotionally.) I thought it was better, I'm actually thinking about going to Overeaters Anonymous it's been so bad lately. I haven't decided yet. If anyone has any thoughts, I'd appreciate them. TIA!

Today's QOTD: I wasn't sure what to share, but I was reading someone's pre-trip report and she mentioned something about donating hair to Locks of Love. I've actually done that twice myself. I've also had alopecia areata multiple times. I had a wonderful dermatologist's assistant who treated it each time. I'm grateful for the fact that it has been treatable every time.

Have a great rest of the day today and a great day tomorrow!

You've probably heard this before, but can you not keep the foods in the house. If there's no container of cookies available, it may help.
I use gum a lot when stressed (particularly at work), and a bottle of water or coke zero. If I have to keep my mouth moving better to chew gum and drink 0 calories. I do end up taking a bathroom break at least every hour when I'm downing all the water thaough.
I'll also try to have better food options available. A flavoured rice cake will give me some crunch rather than going for the bag of chips.
Having raw cauliflower available for munching works for me. I like it because its crunchy, and it takes time to chew which will slow me down.
I have bought raw veggies already cut up. I figure it costs more than chopping myself, but its cheaper than cookies and other junk.
I also do better when I'm checking on her at least daily and when I'm actually journalling my food before or after every meal.

Wow! There have been some great responses to the last couple of QOTD! :thumbsup2 You guys are amazing! :goodvibes

Wow! That is so sad about your book. Did you ask the publisher who read it if they had a copy?

Have a great day all!

Publisher sent back my copy with instructions on what to do and how to do it. I was going to make copies of the one copy I had when my boss went to court (he was an attorney)... but the flood happened the next day. It's the story of my life.

I'll share another interesting fact about me, DH is on the computer, so I'm Stuck on my iPod touch, and can't ever quote well. Now, that's not my interesting fact! It's actually my name. Considering you know more about my daily activities than most of my IRL friends, I thought it was time to be known as something other than my fav shoes!!! It's Taryn, like Karen with a T!!

Have a great night!!!

:wave2: Hi Taryn! I was wondering what your name was earlier today. :goodvibes I've never seen that spelling...my cousin is Caryn, I thought it was a Scottish spelling. You're not Scottish are you?

LMDisney girl welcome!:cheer2: You always have a home here.

Graciesmom hooray I'm glad that you love this thread! Me too, it's such a great group.:cloud9:

I found 2 tulips that we didn't plant come up in my yard. It can't be from the previous owner. We have been here for 23 years.
That's funny, we had a hyacinth come up in a flower bed this spring that we didn't plant. We have some in another bed, but it's a good 30 feet away. And we are the original owner so I know someone else didn't plant it.

Cool about the locks of love. I never let my hair get long enough.

As for the binge/emotional eating. :grouphug: I was/am a binge/emotional eater. I have a couple of suggestions. I have found since I have given up soda/ caffeine it has really gotten better. I do have an occasional pop, but no diet. I don't know the reasons for this, but I don't crave the sugar nearly as much. Pretty much the only sweet thing I eat now is an occasional serving of ice cream. And it's a very small serving. I do still crave salty foods, but I try to work into my meal rather than binge or eat it as a snack. For instance, I really wanted chips/something salty tonight. I've been craving it all day. So I had a small serving of chips with half a sandwich tonight. Last, exercise really helps. Even a few minutes will calm down the anxiety that usuallys accompanies my cravings/need to binge. Hang in there. You can do this!:grouphug:

I'm sorry about your book. It's still really cool that they were going to publish it, but how disappointing!

Welcome LMDisneyGirl!

GraciesMom--hope your surprise trip to see your dh works out! Where is he in South Carolina?

Have a great evening everyone!

LMDisneygirl, welcome!! I have trouble actually remembering to post but am always a lurker!! :thumbsup2 THese guys are incredible!!

QOTD for Tuesday: Since today's (yesterday's ) question was thought provoking and serious, I want today's to be fun. So tell us something about you that we don't already know.

Hmmm...I'm named for St Jude: the saint of hopeless causes!!!! :rotfl2::rotfl2: ...no fooling no matter how hard I laugh at it...

Just finished 2 miles on the elliptical! 6 miles total of exercise for the day plus a full day of house cleaning and laundry! Mini meatloaves were really good! Finishing up my day with a big jug of water.

DD2 was complaining about a tummy ache. Thought she had gas and then she said I think I'm going to be sick! Got her a bucket. Funny thing happened! She threw up and said, "Oooh, that's gross! I feel so much better now!" She is a hoot and a half. She has been really congested so we think that could've been part of it! She was really exhausted! If I hadn't wanted to do the elliptical she would've fallen asleep in my arms!

Busy day tomorrow! 2 clients, 1 at 10 and 1 at 6:30, both hot stone massages! Taking DD1 and her friend shopping as they have a half day! Going to the mall and have lunch and get some clothes. DD1 has an Aeropostale gift card from her first communion and she has an add'l $30 to spend. She wants to go to Claire's and Justice. She has a 40% off card for Justice! DD2 also has dancing tomorrow at 4. DH has to go to a class in Manchester, NH so not sure what time he will actually get home tomorrow. As long as it's before 5:30. May just end up ordering pizza/subs or picking up something quick on the way home. I was hoping to make homemade pizza but with having to work tomorrow night I may not be able to squeeze it in!

Enjoying BL tonight! Almost didn't do the elliptical so I'm feeling good right now! Both girls are asleep and all the bedrooms are clean so I can really feel good. Need to work on the living room, dining room, and floors the rest of the week.

Have a great night all!

Thanks Shannon! I will definitely up my water intake. And, I will journal. I know I do so much better when I plan in advance. I'll start now. I have some extra time tomorrow morning so I will be making my usual oatmeal. For lunch, I'm planning to have a sandwich with some peppers. I was going to make soup with the peppers (WW recipe), but I love your eat something cruchy idea. Thanks again!

Thanks for the suggestions! I will give up diet soda. I don't drink coffee, but I do like chocolate. I used to not be able to eat chocolate. My sister claims that is why I crave it so much. I think I'm healthier when I don't eat it so I'm going to go back to avoiding it. I will try the exercise idea. I have the opportunity to walk a lot a work so I'll have no problem fitting in more of it. That should help with the lunchtime binges. Thanks again!

I really appreciate the time both of you took to respond to me. BL has been such a great support for me. I know tomorrow will be a better day because of your support. Thanks again!

Do something nice for yourself. Get a flower or two and put them where you can see them. You don't have to buy them. Find some in your yard. I have two yellow tulips in my yard that I never planted.

Kind of forgot about this today. I guess maybe I can count going to my WW meeting doing something nice for me.

I keep a silk rose taped to my laptop. My youngest son gave it to me for Valentine's Day and it makes me smile when I look at it :thumbsup2

This is so sweet!

I am hoping to find some time this week to type up our intinerary (yup, I'm one of those neurotic over-planners who carries a daily itinerary around with her!! :lmao:). We have our parks per day planned and our list of priority rides. We decided to opt out of any sit-down meals. DS is more of a grazer and since it is such a short trip, we didn't want to give up park time to sit in restaurants. As much as I LOVE to eat, I'm not a big foodie. I'm content with a veggie burger and salad or chicken wrap sandwich. I KNOW from experience that you can find relatively healthy foods at the Disney counter service areas, if you try hard. If we decide last minute we want to have a sit-down meal, we can always use my new Mobile Magic app to find us a place to eat! (That sounds like a BL product placement ad!)

Okay... I'm off to catch up on a few other things! ...........P

Bet you are getting excited for the trip! How exciting! I can't wait to hear all about your trip!

What a productive day! Finished cleaning DD1s room, cleaned my room, cleaned the kitchen, on my 4th load of laundry, made chocolate chip muffins, made 12 mini meatloaf muffins, and 2 small meatloaves! Got 1 more load of laundry to do. DD1 and I will head to the transfer station as soon as DH gets home. Got a lot of garbage, newspapers and plastic and cardboard to take. Should probably start loading the car up!

Time for some more water and load up the car for the trip to the transfer station!

I so need you to come and help me get this motivated! It is incredible how much you are able to get done in one day.:worship:

Thanks Everyone! I'm needing to make a change.

Welcome! I think you will find all kinds of support here - with a wide variety of advice and support.

Sorry that you are having a hard time with the food. I can totally relate though as I have been struggling with eating the right things. I know that I need to go back to the basics this week. I am committing to journaling, exercising (more then just my running), drinking the water, eating balanced meals, etc. I am wondering if there are some basics that you might want to focus on for a few days that would help?

Hmmm...I'm named for St Jude: the saint of hopeless causes!!!! :rotfl2::rotfl2: ...no fooling no matter how hard I laugh at it...

Hello Jude....I don't mean to laugh but OMG...this made me laugh out loud! You are totally not a hopeless cause!!!

QOTD for Tuesday: Since today's (yesterday's ) question was thought provoking and serious, I want today's to be fun. So tell us something about you that we don't already know.

I took a vacation to Costa Rica with 2 girlfriends. We stayed 7 nights in a tent village in the jungle. While we were there we went white water rafting, repelled through the treetops, completed a night trek through the jungle, went on a sea kayak excursion, snorkeled in the Caribbean Sea and so much more. We went during the raining season - imagine extremely hot and nothing ever drying. We drank heavily, learned to dance salsa from the young cabana boys who waited on us, spent hours laying by the ocean listening to the sounds of the jungle and had the time of our lives.

It has been fun learning more about each of you. The Costa Rica trip sounded amazing.

Wednesday's QOTD: Looking back at past vacations, what was your favorite Non Disney vacation?

Dh and I went to Cancun, Mexico to celebrate my 40th Birthday last fall. We had such a wonderful relaxing time. No kids, no worries and lots of sunshine and all inclusive food and drink. We also went scuba diving for the first time in our lives. It was amazing and definitely won't be our last times.

QOTD for Tuesday: Since today's (yesterday's ) question was thought provoking and serious, I want today's to be fun. So tell us something about you that we don't already know.

I'll do 3, though none of them are revelations:

1. Growing up, my name was always Cory. Except in 4th Grade when there was a boy with the same name, that year I went by Corinna. I was Cory all through college, but when I got my first job out of college, the supervisor had made up my name tag based on the job application, so it said Corinna. In spite of the fact that Phyllis was 4'8" and about 75 lbs, I was too intimidated to ask her to change it to Cory - so everyone there called me Corinna. And I decided I kind of liked it.

2. I was a sports photographer for the local newspaper two summers when I was a teen.

3. I had then and still have monovision - nearsighted in one eye, 20/20 in the other. Which was a bit of an issue for my career as a sports photographer. This was back when you had to do manual focus on an SLR for that sort of thing and my right eye was my "bad" eye, so I had to learn to squint and focus with my other eye, which was not that easy! I have crummy depth perception, but will not need bifocals or glasses at all for a long time, or so they tell me.

Wednesday's QOTD: Looking back at past vacations, what was your favorite Non Disney vacation?[/QUOTE]

Oooh. Good question. We had a very fun family trip to Virginia last summer for DH's college reunion, such as it was. We spent a few days in Charlotte which is full of some good memories, then drove up Skyline drive, spent two nights in Skyland and got to see Luray Caverns - spectacular. Then we visited Manassas National Battlefield Park and had a couple of days in Washington D.C. It was over too quickly, but enjoyed amazing sampling of Virginia and D.C. and even got to meet up with a couple of old friends, ironically NOT at the reunion!

Wow! I just now realized there is a new thread. March was a bad month for me! A lot of sickness in my household and events going on that I got a bit sidetracked and did not do all that well. I did not gain any weight but I didn't really lose either. I was happy for NOT gaining though!

I am getting my butt back in gear now and am really glad to see the challenge has been extended!! Gives me more time to reach my own personal goal for this challenge! :)

Here we celebrate our progress and recognize our superstars.

Reminders:
-after 3 weeks of no reporting, you are dropped from the challenged – can re-start at any time, though :goodvibes
-if anybody knows they will miss weighing in, just PM and let me know and you’ll be marked excused :goodvibes

Throwing in a quote from earlier in the challenge. Redwalker posted: I think everyone on this thread is making a commitment to better themselves, their lives and showing good examples to those around us. It doesn't matter if you have over 100lbs to loose or 10lbs. The fact is that we are all making the effort...you wouldn't be here if you weren't making the effort! You recognize that a change must happen, and are working toward that change. We all must look to the future, the future of ourselves. Let go of any shame or bad feelings of ourselves. Focus on what is going to come next, how we are going to better ourselves. We are doing this for ourselves-first and foremost. Then for our families and friends..so that we can enjoy life with them as long as we can. You all have no idea how many lives we touch, and becoming a healthy active person is not just good for ourselves, but for everyone around us.

Biggest Loser 9 Spring Challenge Week 14!
total group loss =12.7 pounds!
Average percentage of weight lost 0.11 %
:cool1:
Total group weight loss so far 1178.1 pounds!
Let’s see when we will hit 1250 pounds!

Retention Rate (compared to the 135 weighins for our start weigh-in on Jan 1st)
(43+4+2)/ 135 = 36% :goodvibes (this includes the Losers and Maintainer and Excused people!)

Before the weekly superstar list comes the disclaimer. I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference this is the magic percentage of weight lost formula - weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week times 100, that gives us the percentage. Now let me test that with my numbers for week 1, click, click, click goes the calculator. Yes, that agrees with the percentage on the magic spreadsheet. (btw if its been more than 1 week between weigh-ins, then the % loss is divided by the number of weeks, to keep everybody on the same basis)

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of week 14? This time I’ve done a TOP 10 LIST! That criteria will change from week to week. Hey I'm in charge here and I get paid nothin' to do this so you better take what you can get!;);):rotfl: (and if there’s something you want to know, just ask me!)

Thanks to ohMom-Molli for these clippies. They were used for a previous BL but we can recycle. Don't they look great!

NOW FOR THOSE OF US WHO SET A GOAL FOR THE CHALLENGE!

How this works: you set your goal for what to lose in the challenge. Then I calculate your weight loss in the challenge divided by your goal to get a % to goal.
Anybody can change their goal at anytime (or add a goal) – all you have to do is send me a PM.
Since the goals are an individual thing, the list is just in alphabetical order to make it easier for everybody to find their own name. If there are any questions or suggestions please let me know. This is something new for BL9 :goodvibes

We have done 14 out of 20 weeks, so the challenge is 70% complete.

Hah--you've been busy. I've been busy too--non stop with something or other it seems. It's good busy though I think.

QUOTD--something the board doesn't know.

Hmm. You all know me as a cat person but my best friend growing up was a dog named Bandit. He was a poodle/terrier/border collie +? mix. He looked most like a border collie, cute as heck, neurotic as you can imagine. I should scan a picture of him to have on the computer. Remember when I told you how active I was? Well Bandit was there with me on endless walks, bike rides, the skateboard. When I rode my bike he ran along with me but when I could tell he was tiring I'd pick him up and hold him up against me with one arm :) He had a pretty long life and happy, but I was always a little guilty for leaving him when I moved out to live my life. We still laugh about him and I doubt my parents will ever have another pet just like I will never likely have another dog. :dog:
