Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

6 miles on the elliptical and the 2 mile WATP today! Got caught up on my shows on demand. Still need to drink some more water and do all of my crunches.

Enjoyed some corn bread and turkey chili with lite Mexican cheese!

Slow day here! Hope everyone is doing well and staying on plan. I normally go to my ww meeting on tuesdays but I have to work a double tomorrow so I will be going to a meeting on Wednesday instead. I am hoping for a great loss going into the holiday.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to quote everyone but it sounds like things are going well for people. Keep plugging along towards the goal and it will get closer and closer...slowly maybe, but eventually we will get there.

Sarah

Hello all. I am sorry I haven't been on today or done a QOTD. I don't know how many of you branch out of this thread but I am a member of the DIS Diva's ladies only trip and one of our dearest friends passed away today. She posted a lot around the boards. Her name is Dawn/fairykin. Please give good thought to her family as they deal with this.
I'm so sorry about your friend. I didn't know her, but I know how close I've become to some friends I've made here, and it would be so hard to lose them. My prayers are with her family.
QOTD: If you had one day left in this world what activity would you do?
I would have a pajama day with my son. We would have cinnamon buns for breakfast, play games, color, paint, play with clay, do whatever he wanted to do, and end the day watching America's funniest videos, and then I would ask him if he wanted to sleep in my bed that night, and of course he would, and I would watch him fall off to sleep and my last picture would be his angelic little sleeping face.
If I had only one day left I'd stay home, and turn off the phone.
I'd make pancakes with my girls for breakfast, and eat watching a movie that makes them laugh just to hear them giggle. I'd play a board game as a family. Then we'd put on some disney music and dance while guessing the movie the song came from. I'd order pizza for dinner, and at the kids bedtime, I'd read with the kids, and then DH would secretly videotape me & the girls when I sang to them at bedtime, so they'd have a record of the songs I made up for each of them and all the other songs I sing as ni-night songs. Then I'd make my DH dance to our wedding song before cuddling up to watch a movie and fall asleep in his arms.
That was beautiful shannon.

I hope everyone here is doing well. I did spend some time this morning catching up on everyone's weekend. I need to run and do laundry now. Have a great day everyone!..............P
Your post made me smile. You have a perfect plan for thanksgiving, to completely enjoy those must haves. We need to make those calories worth it. Congrats to your ds on the robotics! It is so emotional when you see your kids do something like that.

If you had to ride one ride for an hour without getting off, which ride would it be?
Peter pan. I just love that ride, but the line is always so long.
Have a great day all! Make sure to drink your water....in fact, I challenge each of you to drink 8 oz of water as soon as you finish reading this post!

SArah
thanks for the water reminder. I just got a big glass.

I have to think about this one for a little bit. I loved your answer, Shannon. My dad used to always say that life is hanging by a thread and that is so true. I tell DH when we are rushing around doing things for clients that our clients would miss us for a week or two but family would miss us for the rest of their lives. That is why we really try to put our family first in our family business.
So true lisa, and so smart to put family first.
I did my WATP video this morning so I am off to practice piano before my lesson today. I can actually play about a dozen Christmas songs -- I never thought that would happen when I started in June!
Have a great day all!
Nice job on the piano. That sounds like a lot of songs to have learned in just 5 months. You must be a very good student.

Sorry, I forgot. Really I weigh the same still sadly. So I haven't begun to lose anything from my walking.
Dont be discouraged. It does take time to see a loss, and I know that when exercise is new and you are using muscles that haven't been used much, they tend to swell and retain some water, so you may not see the loss initally, but if you keep it up, it will come off. Hang in there.

Slow day here! Hope everyone is doing well and staying on plan. I normally go to my ww meeting on tuesdays but I have to work a double tomorrow so I will be going to a meeting on Wednesday instead. I am hoping for a great loss going into the holiday.
Good luck at wi tomorrow. I go on wed or sat, so I'm debating on when I'll go. I gotta play the head games- if I go wed, and see a loss, will go totally out of control over t-day, because I have a week til wi, or should I wait til sat, and knowing I need to weighin may help keep me on track a little bit. I'll just wait and see what I feel like in the morning.

Have a great day everyone.

I would ride either Soarin' or Everest! They both give me such a rush and give me ready for the rest of the day. We always do those first the day we visit Epcot or AK.

Did 2 miles on the elliptical and the 2 mile WATP. Planning on doing 2 miles tonight watching BL. Time for some water and to get DD2 ready for preschool!

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Morning all! I just have time for a quick jump on now and probably not again for the rest of the day. I am working and I forgot my laptop, so I probably won't have internet access the rest of the day. After school it is the usual run to tennis, swim, etc, so we won't be home until late.

Thanks for all of the congrats wishes for DS's robotics team. It was so thrilling. DS is not the athlete in the family, nor is he a great scholar.... so it is GREAT for him to have something that he can really excel at. He tends to get eclipsed a bit by his sister's accomplishments sometimes (great swimmer, honors student, etc), so I was so pleased he had this big moment to SHINE! Plus, as a coach, it certainly makes all of the hours of work worthwhile!

I took a sneak peek at the scale this morning and I am (unofficially) at a new low! I am 1.2 away from my original goal and 6.2 away from my adjusted goal! At this rate, I could hit it by the end of the year! That peek is REALLY going to give me the encouragement I need to stay ON PLAN as much as possible over the holiday weekend.

On a side note..... I encourage everyone to have an eating plan in place (either on paper or in your head) before the holiday starts.... and have a plan for the ENTIRE WEEKEND!! I had a great plan for Halloween weekend and I stuck to it well.... but I failed to "plan" how I would handle the remaining candy in the house after Saturday and I had a bit of a fumble.
I am making a SOLID PLAN for my eating for Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I will be bringing some of my "parachute" foods along with me to my Mom's for the weekend, so no excuses. I am going to WRITE my plan today and tape it into my food journal to view whenever I need a bit of encouragement.

How about it?? Could you have a WRITTEN plan in place for your eating and exercise this weekend? Would it help?

Sorry I don't have time right now to answer the QOTD... maybe tonight.....P

Hey pjlla!
Sorry I didn't respond earlier. Redwalker and I walk at Solomon Pond in Marlboro.

I would love to meet you up at Pheasant Lane sometime to walk as I'm only about 20 minutes from there. My schedule is very flexible as it depends on when I have clients at the spa and my kids' schedules. Let me know after the Thanksgiving when we could possibly get together!

Good morning all!

If you had to ride one ride for an hour without getting off, which ride would it be?

Hmm, I would say Spaceship Earth if I was at Disneyworld and Buzz Lightyear if I was at Disneyland. I've been going to Disneyland and Disneyworld for over 45 years, even tested BTMRR when it first opened, but have never stuck on a ride for longer than a few minutes. I am sure it is not as exciting an experience as I think it would be! :rotfl:

Slow day here! Hope everyone is doing well and staying on plan. I normally go to my ww meeting on tuesdays but I have to work a double tomorrow so I will be going to a meeting on Wednesday instead. I am hoping for a great loss going into the holiday.

Hope that your double shift goes by quickly, Sarah. I am very good at getting to my goal slowly, slowly, slowly. It is times like these it really helps to look back and reflect on how far you've really come and you have done so well this year. We didn't get to this stage in our lives quickly, I don't know why we think that we will get to our goal weights so quickly, too. :confused3

Awww, Kathy, is there anything sweeter than the sleeping face of a child?
Hopefully none of us will have to use our last day plans for a very, very long time.

I don't know if I am a good piano student but lots Christmas music has easy melodies so it could be the songs. ;) I don't mind, though, it is a lot of fun and one of my goals was to be able to sit down and play a few songs on the piano. Now, I have to work my way to playing some Disney music -- it is still a little too complicated for my skill level now.

pjlla, a written plan is a great idea! I have big plans for my exercising this week-end but need to firm up my eating plans a little more from just reduced portions. That is why I like Kathy's WW leader's idea of figuring our points ahead of time.

For those of you watching the Biggest Loser, the regular show is tonight. On Wednesday they are having a special follow up show. Maybe they do that every year? :confused3 It think the follow up show will be as interesting as a regular show.

Have a great day all!

I think that sounds like an excellent QOTD so I am going to commendeer it!

QOTD: How about it?? Could you have a WRITTEN plan in place for your eating and exercise this weekend? Would it help?

I think it would deffinitely help! I am going to work out a written plan tonight and I will post it here! That way you will all keep me honest. I know I will do well if I a have already publically committed to a certain amount of food.

Have a great day all. I hope you be back on but not till much later tonight!

Sorry, I forgot. Really I weigh the same still sadly. So I haven't begun to lose anything from my walking.

Don't be discouraged. If you are building muscle it may not be apparent on the scales. If you really believe your workouts aren't working, then it might be time to ramp up the intensity... walk longer, walk faster, walk uphill. Are you really breaking a sweat? Be sure that you are working at a fat burning level. You can do it! Don't give up.

6 miles on the elliptical and the 2 mile WATP today! Got caught up on my shows on demand. Still need to drink some more water and do all of my crunches.

Enjoyed some corn bread and turkey chili with lite Mexican cheese!

You are a CRAZY woman on the elliptical! I get so bored on the machines at the Y... it seems like the tvs are always tuned to news... BORING!! I bought myself a cheap MP3 player at Target earlier this year, but could never get it to work right and I waited to long to return it to Target. Now it sits in my car and mocks me!!

Was the cornbread a light recipe? I love cornbread but the ones I find are so calorie rich!

Hey pjlla!
Sorry I didn't respond earlier. Redwalker and I walk at Solomon Pond in Marlboro.

OMGOSH.... I KNEW you were going to say Solomon Pond! I swear! (Maybe one of you mentioned it at one time??)

I would love to have a mini-meet/walk at the Pheasant Lane Mall. I am also flexible with my schedule. Let's plan to talk after T.giving.

Well.... I had this beautiful long post typed up , but the stupid student computer I am using here at school burped and lost it all!

I'm excited to see that I inspired a QOTD! I had time this morning to work on my holiday weekend eating plan and it really seems do-able. I would be happy to share it here later, if anyone is interested. I am interested in reading others' plans if they care to share. I concentrated mostly on Thurs and Fri (when we have our big meals with family). I made specific notes of what I would avoid TOTALLY and portion sizes of other items. (OOps... I forgot to think about liquor... guess I need to add to my plan!)

For Saturday/Sunday, I made a WRITTEN COMMITTMENT to be back on track, counting points, NO EXCUSES. I planned a points target for each meal over the weekend, but not exactly what I will eat, since I won't be home and won't have total control of the menu. And I am bringing along a cooler of "can't live without" foods to help me through the weekend... LC cheese wedges, baby carrots, Sandwich Thins, single serve cottage cheese, Fiberone Bars and such. That should help me swim through the sea of leftovers without drowning!!

I may even fold up my plan and put it in my pocket for Thursday and Friday. Having it to refer to occasionally may help!

For exercise, as I mentioned, I will be attending a special T.giving 2 hour exercise time at the Y, so that day is covered. Friday and Saturday I am committing to 45 minutes of exercise while at my Mom's. If the weather is good it will be a walk/run outside. If the weather is bad, I will be inside with my WATP DVD on my laptop (probably in the unheated sunroom... or wherever I can find the space!).

I probably won't have another break here at school, so if I return today it won't be until late tonight. I would LOVE to see how many people actually work up a written plan for the weekend. And I'd love to see your plan, if you care to share!................P

pjlla- how cool about your DS! I love robotics but could never get my nephews interested.

sahbushka- I'm so sorry to hear about your friend Dawn, I am thinking of her her family, and you.

My silly dial up internet has been acting up again so I missed quite a few days QOTD but these two begged an answer:

How would I spend my last day on earth? I just realized that I would spend it doing just what I have been doing the last couple of days. How lucky I am to have found my dream place and filled it with all my critters. Let me just go into my barn and breath deep and sit with my animals and drink cider (the kind with belly-enlarging alcohol) and if my sister wants the same thing then there will be a lot of laughing too:cloud9:

Which ride to spend an hour on? All of them, any of them. If forced to pick just one? Kali River Rapids.:woohoo:

I'm way behind on the QOTD, so here goes!

Saturday's QOTD: Ok, so we are smack dab in the middle of the holidays...what is your "must have" food and how can you make it more workable with your goals of being healthy?

Hmm. I have a dish I love to make called "Cranberry Crunch Salad". It's a jello salad with cranberries, nuts and pineapple, and it is yummy! But it's only for the holidays, as it takes fresh cranberries. Since we will be away for Thanksgiving this year, I'm only making it for Christmas. I am going to savor every bite, and stop eating when I'm full.

QOTD: If you had one day left in this world what activity would you do?

I am so very sorry for your loss  Since Disney makes dh crazy, I'd spend my one last day with him, ds and my dad in Bermuda. We would enjoy the pink sand beaches, eat some fabulous food, snorkel, and generally have a wonderful time in the sun. Then I'd call my friend Verna and tell her I'll hold her seat. We joke that we are going to end up in a level of hell because of the things we say (not a really bad level, just uncomfortable -- we're not mean, but we do notice when people don't use the common sense they were given). We end up on a beach, and we can watch Naveen Andrews (Sayid, from Lost) walk by, but we can't get up and go near him, and he doesn't come near us. Other than that we're perfectly comfortable. :rotfl2:

As for todays QOTD lets make it a lot more joyful and Disney related because hey, what is more joyful than that?

I heard once of a band that went to Disneyland and they broke some rules of the trip so the band teacher punished them by making them ride IASW continuously for an hour! If you had to ride one ride for an hour without getting off, which ride would it be?

I'm going to say the Train in the Magic Kingdom. There would always be something different for me to look at and notice, and I wouldn't get motion sick as I would with an hour on a coaster!

I think that sounds like an excellent QOTD so I am going to commendeer it!

QOTD: How about it?? Could you have a WRITTEN plan in place for your eating and exercise this weekend? Would it help?

I always have a written exercise plan, it's following it that's tricky :rolleyes1 I have all my workouts plotted out until the WDW Half, so I know what I should do each day. I typically plot my meals the night before, but again I don't always stick to the plan. I think it's a great idea for getting back on track. I will be trying that on Monday (we come home from Universal Sunday), and it will help greatly if I know I already have good food ready to go.

This may be my last check-in before we leave tomorrow. I do plan to run 3M every morning, and try not to go too crazy with the food. I know I'm going back in January, so I don't have to eat every single treat this trip! I'm packing kashi bars and buying bananas for my breakfasts, and I'm only going to get a dessert if it's something special to me -- like spumoni gelato.

I wish all the Americans a very Happy Thanksgiving! and to our Canadian brethren, I say "Keep Enjoying the Holiday Season!"

Maria :upsidedow

QOTD:
I don't write much down but keep track of things in my head. I have a plan in my head for Thanksgiving! I will get up and do 3-4 miles on the elliptical after breakfast. I made 2 quiches with egg beaters tonight for supper and DH and I are the only ones that will eat them so we have dinner tomorrow and breakfast on Thursday taken care of. One was made with turkey bacon and the other was made with sausage. I had a small piece of each and some chocolate chip coffee cake for dessert. That's all I'm going to eat today. I will be having water while doing the elliptical tonight while watching BL.

The rest of my plan for Thanksgiving is to have one small/medium serving of the things I like the most: stuffing, dressing, and green bean casserole. I will have some turkey and mashed potatoes with gravy and then a piece of pie for dessert. If we get home early enough I will do 2-3 more miles on the elliptical. I find I need to work our at night for the best results in the morning. I also plan on doing my crunches each day. I will also have some wine or beer and some snacks but not over do it!

Going for a walk with a neighbor while the kids are at school tomorrow. She wants some inspiration! That makes me feel good.

I have 2 clients coming on Friday and then I'm doing a book fair all day on Saturday!

After walking I will cut up the veggies for the dressing and maybe make some Chex mix. I have been making myself lists all week to keep focused!

We're watching a Benji holiday special from 1978. I found a 2 disk/ 4 movie set at Target yesterday for $5.

PJLLA: I'll be in touch next week. My parents arrive in 2 weeks for Christmas so not sure, but maybe next week sometime.

Ok...Thanksgiving day eating plan....I have to work from 8-4 so I will have a chewy granola bar for breakfast, a cheesestick at 10, a 5 pt lean pocket at noon, and apple at 2 and then when I am off at 4 I will go to my moms house and have 2 rolls, 4 oz of turkey, 2 tbsp mayo, 1 1/2 cups green bean casserole (which I am making and will try to lighten slightly) and 1 slice of pecan pie with whipped cream. I will have a diet pepsi to drink. I get 28 pts for the day plus I have weekly allowance points I can use. With this scenario I am looking at about 40 points so I will only have to use 12 of my wa points. The next day the remaining pie will be given to my co workers and the turkey and rolls will be left at my moms. I will bring the green beans home and have some of those with my dinner Friday (I will be at work for 16 hours). Oh, and I will drink lots of water!

Sarah

QOTD: How about it?? Could you have a WRITTEN plan in place for your eating and exercise this weekend? Would it help?

I think a written plan would be a big help -- just a reminder to keep me on track. My plan is:
Do 4 miles WATP right off the bat -- I get up about 4:30 a.m. so it will be nice to have the exercise done. :thumbsup2
I will be getting things ready in the morning but won't be cooking them until later.
Drink some hot green tea and have a piece of string cheese before we go to open house at friend's house. Limit alcohol at party to one drink wine or beer. Hit the veggies for food. We are eating after the party so I don't want to spoil my appetite for what we are cooking.
Have an apple while waiting for food to cook and/or black olives.
One plate of Thanksgiving food. One roll. Be sure to have helping of scalloped potatoes to get that out of my system. ;)
Limit alcohol to two glasses of wine.
Get right back on track on Friday morning with exercise and eating OP.

We are having company on Friday night but I can control the food so will be okay there. Also will be working one day this week-end so that gets me out of the house and away from leftovers. We have small portions so the leftovers should be manageable.

I had an NSV today and wore pants another size down from what I have worn for years. They were comfortable but could become snug. I do not want to have this become a problem so it is more incentive to really, really watch what I am doing this week-end.

Maria, safe journey and have a great time!

I'm having a bellini now and pretending that I am sitting in Italy at Epcot waiting for Illuminations to begin. :santa:

Have a great evening all!

Just finished mile 7 for the day! Did 2 miles on the elliptical this morning followed by the 2 mile WATP. Ate well all day and just finished doing 3 miles while watching BL. Finishing up my water for the day! Tastes so good.

Tomorrow's plan: 2 miles elliptical, 2 mile WATP, 2-3 mile walk with my neighbor, and maybe 2 more miles on the elliptical later in the day. Will need to do that as I will be doing some cooking and baking later in the day. Dinner will be more quiche tomorrow. Lunch will be a lean pocket and breakfast will be a yogurt or the peppermint stick luna bar (LOVE THEM).

Hoping to reach my goal for Thursday!

QOTD: What is your favorite Disney "secret"? A little known fact, a special viewing area, the best place to see characters?

Can't wait to see the answers!

IQOTD: How about it?? Could you have a WRITTEN plan in place for your eating and exercise this weekend? Would it help?
this is a great idea. I will start my day with an egg beaters omelette. we go out to breakfast, a buffet with nothing healthy, so I will have 2 pieces of bacon and 1 pancake there, and stick with the coffee. I may share a popcorn at the football game. We're visiting a friend early afternoon, and they start with meatballs and lasagna, so I will have 2 meatballs, and a glass of wine there. Then were going out to dinner at 4:30. I'll have turkey, stuffing, squash, greenbeans, a small sample of mash potatoes, and a roll. For dessert one piece of pie- apple or pumpkin and coffee. 1-2 drinks- either rum and diet coke, beer, or wine, whatever I'm in the mood for. that puts me up around 50 points, 30 daily, plus 20 ap. After dinner, I did bake some cookies, and will make a pie, and we may come to my house for a drink, so that will add a few more points, and parhasp another 8 for pie. that looks like a great amount of food, and I can stick to it.

Get right back on track on Friday morning with exercise and eating OP.
Great point, and I'll add that to my plan!

Great question. I don't know if it's a secret, but we discovered the Animation studio drawing class at DHS on our second trip, and we have to do it every trip now. I love it because it's quiet, down time, and you get to sit for half an hour, and my son just loves doing the drawings. We did it 5 times on our trip this month. I love having the pics as a souvenir too.

This may be my last check-in before we leave tomorrow. I do plan to run 3M every morning, and try not to go too crazy with the food. Have a fabulous trip Maria, and a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Have a great day everyone.

QOTD: If you had one day left in this world what activity would you do?

I would have to spend the day at Disney doing things we don't usually get to do when we're there. We would do a fishing excursion on Bay Lake in the morning, then some water sports like maybe hang gliding. We'd have to eat lunch at CP and spend a little time in MK, then go horseback riding at Fort Wilderness. DH and I would renew our vows on the beach of the GF, and then we'd have a little reception with our close family and friends on a private Wishes cruise. After the cruise we'd be escorted down Main St. in Cinderella's glass coach and go to sleep in the Castle suite.

If you had to ride one ride for an hour without getting off, which ride would it be?

It would have to be Buzz Lightyear for me. I would keep trying to beat DH! I like TSM a little better, but I think it's a little too jerky to stay on for a whole hour!

QOTD: How about it?? Could you have a WRITTEN plan in place for your eating and exercise this weekend? Would it help?

We made a written plan at WW last week. We had to draw our hand on a paper plate. On the thumb we wrote 1 thing we're thankful for. On the 4 fingers we wrote ways to help us stay on track over the holiday weekend. On the back of the plate we wrote foods that will probably be on the table. Then she put up a chart showing how many points are in many traditional Thanksgiving foods, and on the front of the plate below the hand we wrote what we will be putting on our plates. I'm taking my paper plate with me to 1900 Park Fare to remind me to stick with the plan!

QOTD: What is your favorite Disney "secret"? A little known fact, a special viewing area, the best place to see characters?

My favorite viewing area for Wishes is on the bridge by the Christmas shop. When you're standing there facing the castle, there's a ledge on your right you can lean on because let's face it, we're always pooped by fireworks time! It doesn't feel quite so claustrophobic because even if people come up and stand on your left, there's that open area on your right so you don't feel like you're in the middle of a herd of cattle!

I haven't done as good with my eating or exercise as I planned to this week. Trying to get ready for vacation while work is stressing me out big time isn't a good combo! They even called me at 10:40 last night and asked me to work 11pm-3am tonight, and our plane leaves at 11am tomorrow morning! I said NO, I'M ON VACATION, and then I got hung up on! Maybe I'll win a lifetime DVC membership while I'm there and never have to come home and go back to work! :lmao:

Off to WW this morning, then finishing up my cleaning and packing. :laundy:
