Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

Sorry guys...I just can't seem to stay committed to this the way I should. I guess I'll try again for the next challenge. Good luck to everyone with your goals and have a wonderful holiday season!!!

 to you. I was just impressed with your post. To come on here and share that. Really. Hope to see you soon. Have a wonderful holiday season.

Happy Thanksgiving to all celebrating. Whenever American Thanksgiving comes I'm reminded of how fast time flies. Wow.

Have a wonderful day. :goodvibes

Well I guess I am the first one to check in after Thanksgiving dinner. We have been to the in laws, eaten, cleaned up and had dessert and now are back home with the food put away.

It was pretty typical day. I spent the morning cooking and getting things in order. Dh and ds2 went and mowed my sil's lawn for the last time this season and ds1 and his dgf helped me load up the car and drove down with me.

Last Sat I talked to dmil and we had agreed upon that she would supply the stuffing, the papergoods and the drinks. I spent the morning cooking a turkey, and all the sides except for cole slaw. When I got there on the stove were two pots with sweet potatoes and white potatoes. I had two large crockpots with potatoes in them, one white and one sweet. I walked out of the house but they thought I was checking the car. I very angry. Dh calmed me down and the rest of the day went well. Dmil and fil were left with a mound of potatoes since I used the ones I brought.

One of my sil did wash the dishes as ds's and gf helped to clean up. Another sil did dry the dishes but 2 other sil's did nothing to help:confused3:confused3.

The cheesecakes my ds1 made were delicious and a big hit. I did have a very small piece.

The day was not a big eating day for me. I had a glass of milk and a piece of cranberry bread for breakfast. A cup of tea and a banana around 10 and then dinner at 2. Dinner was a piece of turkey, some cranberry relish, sweet potato, small serving of plain stuffing, corn and a piece of rosemary bread then the small piece of cheesecake. I am going to have a piece of apple pie in a few minutes along with my earl grey tea.

My problem with what happened today is what is going to happen on Christmas. I am wiped out right now because it is very hard to cook in someone else's kitchen. I have to do this all again in a month. I hope that I can get up the strength to do it because I don't want to be mean. My in laws are in their 80's and dh did have a point that maybe she never mentioned to anyone that she didn't have to supply anything and other people just did or she forgot. It could have happened that way.

Well off to get some knitting done. I finished a scarf for one of my nephews last night. The next one has been started three times because I don't like the pattern I have tried. I think I will go back to the pattern I made for the first one.

QOTD: What are you most thankful to Walt Disney for?
The joy he has given all of us through all the media he helped to institue, whether it is movies, tv or his parks.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and Grey Cup Weekend to our Canadian friends.

Hey everyone - Happy Thanksgiving!!

Gotta love this day, Family, good food - what could be better. Tomorrow I'm going to get back on track. I forgot to e-mail Shannon last week - I think (Can't remember, but don't remember doing it so I'm thinking I didn't).
I don't think I'll have done that bad since I was being pretty good all week.

My stuffing was super healthy - yeah!! And most things were pretty healthy, with a few unhealthy traditional stuff thrown in there.

Hope everyone had a great day!

OK, the triptofan kicked in and all I want to do is sleep! I didn't even eat that much! I did get 3 miles in this morning. I will get up and do 3 tomorrow morning. I know I will have a small gain for the week but it was a holiday and I deserved to enjoy myself. Had 2 glasses of wine. Only seconds I had was the stuffing! Had some snacks before and a piece of apple pie for dessert. I did drink a lot of water too. Oh well, this will get me to really work hard next week! I have 2 massages to give tomorrow and then will be working at a fundraiser all day on Saturday so I will just have to watch what I eat and drink my water. I should be able to get my workouts in next week as DD1 has 2 half days due to conferences so I will not work those 2 days but work out!

Hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving!

QOTD: What are you most thankful to Walt Disney for?

I am grateful for the creation of a place(s) where the suspension of disbelief is not only accepted, it is encouraged. Sometimes you really just need to be open to magic! We can find the child like wonder of believing in fairies & wizards - and ourselves. pixiedust:
I hope you all are having a wonderful holiday, now, "on with the show"!

QOTD: What are you most thankful to Walt Disney for?
I am thankful for the escape from reality to a happy place, be it the movies, a trip, trip planning, or disney song. I love pretending to my son that everything is real when we are there, and if he mentions the characters not being real, I contest it.

Great question Sarah. Thanks for coaching last week, and for all your wonderful qotds.

I'm this weeks coach, and what a great week to be coaching. This is a time for so many to fall off the wagon, such a busy time of year, so many things to do, but we don't have to do that. We can commit to continuing on this healthy path, and if we slip up, overindulge at a holiday party, that's ok. Let's be good to ourselves. We deserve it. We will all have our slip ups, but as long as we're aware of it and get right back on track as soon as possible, we will continue to be healthy.

I'm going to steal Lisa's quote and change it for this morning.
Remember the most important thing is that no matter what happened yesterday, get right back on track today! :thumbsup2 What a great quote. One day is such a small amount of time. I know we can eat a lot in one day, but if we start the next day off with a good high protein healthy breakfast, and get some exercise, drink our water, sometimes the the high calorie day can actually help our metabolism kick in, and if we fuel it with the right foods, we can see a loss on the scale.

How did everyone do yesterday on the written plans? I did pretty well. I had an irish coffee instead of pie at the restaurant, but then we came back to my house for a drink and my sister had brought a pumpkin pie, so I had that too, and had some cheese and crackers before dinner, which I didn't plan or need, but I did it. It was an emotional day, first big holiday without my mom, but overall it was a good day. We had a different routine than our traditional thanksgivings, and that helped. I did not stuff down my emotions with food, so that is a success for me.

I hope I don't repeat any qotds, but if I do, please let me know and I'll do a different one.

Friday's qotd-With the busy holiday season upon us, what can you do to keep on track through the rest of this challenge? What tips can you share for when it's been a crazy day, and you don't have time to cook? Do you have any quick, easy meals to share?

I plan to check in here every day, (easy this week as the coach) and to go to my ww meeting every week, and no matter how much I have to do, I will make the time to stay for the meeting. I will also start most days with some wii fit. I'm going to try and plan meals to make on the weekends that will last through the week. When I don't feel like cooking, we like to go to Panera for dinner, and I get soup and bread, which is lower cal than their sandwiches and salads. It's a healthier choice than fast food, and cheaper than a sit down restaurant.

Hope everyone has a great day and weekend. Anyone going shopping today? I'm on call til 3, but if the boy wants to go out, maybe we'll hit the mall then.

And thanks for joining us from the states with a thanksgiving gain! :rotfl: Remember, it's just a number, don't kill the scale- you're doing great!!

I'm actually thrilled to be up 2.4 today, and I know I can see that gone next week. Just like vacation weight, if we get right on track after its over, it will go.

Good morning all! :goodvibes

Thank you sahbushka for being our coach last week and a big thank you mikamah for coaching this week! You guys are the best!

sahbushka, congrats on the new ribbon! :cool1: It looks great!

QOTD: What are you most thankful to Walt Disney for?

I am most thankful to Walt Disney for giving me a place where I could have a magical childhood and share that magic with my own family many years later. I grew up in Anaheim so Disneyland has been a part of my life forever.

Sorry guys...I just can't seem to stay committed to this the way I should. I guess I'll try again for the next challenge. Good luck to everyone with your goals and have a wonderful holiday season!!!

, Lisa. You can still hang around and chat with us even if you don't weigh in. :thumbsup2 And there is nothing wrong with holding the line for the holiday season if that is what is best for you! :santa: Our journeys take us different places and we all go faster and slower at times -- just keep heading in the right direction!

We had a really nice day yesterday. It was a bit of a bummer to stop in the middle of the day and go out but we enjoyed visiting with our friends. We also had a lot mishaps -- rolls falling in the bottom of the oven and catching fire, spinach casserole bubbling over and setting off the smoke alarms twice, tough turkey. We just laughed and laughed. DH said it was a lot more fun than a boring Thanksgiving where everything was the same.

My tip for a satisfying quick meal when you don't want to cook it to cook mini-frittatas. http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=521726 It is easy, uses up some things you might have around the house and each little frittata is 13 calories! Add a salad with some fat free dressing and it's an easy meal.

 on the bold Kathy.

Thanks Sarah and welcome Kathy.

, Lisa. I went up 2 lbs. from last week's weight. But I was down 4 lbs. on Wednesday -- I know I didn't eat anything close to 4 lbs. even with the Party Mix incident so I am hoping it is water and will quickly go away! :thumbsup2 I am drinking lots of water and going to be hustling all day long! And I am right back on plan with the eating and exercise. A little bump in the road is not going to get me down! :thumbsup2

Don't forget to PM those weights to LuvBaloo and COW points to donac today.

Have a great day all!

Hello everyone. Feels like I haven't posted here in forever. I'll never get caught up reading posts. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I was able to lose 3 pounds this week. I busted my butt and was on my best behavior yesterday.

I was just talking about this on my other thread. Food can just sit in your stomach and that's all it is. Food sitting in your stomach.

Good for you for being so rational about it Lisa. :thumbsup2 I've struggled with that lesson over the years. I hope to go 2 week weigh ins after this challenge. I think that will make me less obesssive. I hope. :lmao:;)

As for me, I had my ww meeting last night and saw a fantastic loss so even though I won't report it to LuvBaloo until tomorrow I went ahead a changed my signature...just couldn't help myself! If I can do even 1/2 as well next week I will get to change it again! :goodvibes

Have a great Thanksgiving (US)/Thursday (CA) everyone!

Sarah

WTG on the new ribbon! It is lovely. Huge congratulations! That is a big milestone!

I think I had a techno glitch last week because I thought I had lost 3lbs and now I seem to be back where I was.:confused3
Last night i was so upset I felt like crying. I'm so hungry and light headed all of the time. I'm really eating a lot less than I was so.....what's up? Usually if I commit to dieting I lose about 10lbs per month?

Well I'm sticking to it anyway and at least I'm eating much healthier. Maybe I'll go back to C25K and see if the extra exercise helps.:yay:
I joined Sparkpeople and its a lot of fun!:thumbsup2

I know I am repeating what someone else said, but it bears repeating... You may not be eating enough. If you are not eating enough, your metabolism will be VERY sluggish! You need to do some math (maybe there is a formula a sparkpeople) and figure out just what your calorie intake should be and be sure that you are having at least the minimum. Being so hungry that you are lightheaded is NOT normal, even when trying to lose weight. I will admit, there were definitely times when I started (again) on WW last year that I was definitely hungry, but never THAT hungry.... there is always carrots and broccoli around to fill the hole, if necessary, right??

Sorry I don't really have time to respond to the QOTD. I've got to go check my veggies in the oven. As I mentioned previously, we have ANOTHER big T.giving meal today with my family (yesterday was with DH's family). I did a REMARKABLE job (if I may say so myself) sticking to my plan yesterday. The only real change to my plan was I skipped the one glass of wine I had planned and had a bit of extra dessert... and it was so worth it! DSIL made sweet potato bourbon cake... so yummy. And DD's chocolate peanut butter pie was SO rich and yummy... glad I only had a half a piece. I was very full at the end of the day, but I really stayed on my plan very well. I drank plenty of water and seltzer and had just one diet soda (Fresca) as a treat.

I skipped almost ALL of the appetizers... but had 3 shrimp with cocktail sauce, a few salted nuts, a handful of grapes, and a clementine from the appetizer table. Then I sat down next to my SIL on the sofa and just turned my back to the appetizers for the next hour or so.

So far today I've done well.. but dinner is yet to come! I did have a few licks of the spatula when DD made another pie today... but other than that I had my on-plan breakfast and workout this morning. I should get in another 15 minutes, but maybe I will walk this afternoon after dinner if the rain lets up.

Anyhow... my WRITTEN food plan was SUCH a POWERFUL tool for me yesterday. I kept thinking about what I WROTE and tried so hard to stick to it! I hope the idea helped other as well.

Gotta run! Happy Black Friday to all my US friends! Hope you found great bargains...............P

I am down over 2 % this week! Woo Hoo! Feels good to finally be going down again! It took me 7 weeks to lose 5 lbs because of all the ups and downs.

Have a great day all!

Sarah

QOTD: What are you most thankful to Walt Disney for?

Thanks Sarah for taking on coaching last week. I'm finally on to answer your last QOTD.
For all the Disney Magic. I love that I can go to all the Disney places and have fun believing in the unbelievable. I like that joy that we can find on our Disney trips, and the fun at home just watching a Disney movie.:thumbsup2

Friday's qotd-With the busy holiday season upon us, what can you do to keep on track through the rest of this challenge? What tips can you share for when it's been a crazy day, and you don't have time to cook? Do you have any quick, easy meals to share?

Thanks for taking on the coaching role this week! :thumbsup2
:grouphug: for your emotional day yesterday.
I am truly lacking in committment to weight loss. I am yet again trying to re-motivate myself, and I am planning no McD or A&W until January. I am finally starting to stick with the exercising, and have done something 7 out of the last 9 days, so that feels good. I want to keep that up, and keep journaling my food.
When its been a crazy day, its either subway or sandwiches and salad at home. I've been buying the baby spinach so that its always available for a quick salad.
On Sunday, I will probably be cooking a turkey, since DH loves them, and that will give us lots of leftovers to get through the week.:thumbsup2
Next week, I write a final exam for my current course, and I haven't signed up for another one right now. It will be nice to not be doing one over Christmas. And the kids Saturday activities end tomorrw, so December should be a more relaxing month.:goodvibes

Will do my weigh in tomorrow as I ended up having to work most of the day instead of 2 hours. Got in a 3 mile workout early but then had to eat and get ready for work. I know I'm probably up a little from yesterday. Just going to eat some leftovers as I didn't have time for lunch and we have no GRAVY! Guess I'll have to fix something else and have turkey leftovers on Sunday.

LuvBaloo, I share your "diet fatigue" I'm really tired of thinking about what food I eat. Although I seem to be slowly losing, I'm tired and hungry.
It is actually easier to stay OP when I'm working and resist all that fast food/Timmies/and co-workers baked goods. Why, I don't know.
When I have a day off from the City I get bored, I'm alone at home and I go through the kitchen over and over.
When I read how much exercise/activity some of you manage (with kids!) I have so much admiration. I'm on my own, with sis, and find it hard to get on the TM.

I know the holidays will be challenging -

I think I'll have to
1. not buy "really" naughty foods ie- cream cheeses, pastries, Christmas Pudding (with brandy sauce)!
2. keep getting outside, walking and riding, even though I sometimes want to lay on the couch and watch Christmas movies:happytv:
3.not let myself get so hungry that I make poor choices:guilty:
4. check in with BL8 (you guys)daily and remember how important it is to me to get my BMI down.:thumbsup2
A quick and easy recipe?
We buy single servings of Tilapia or salmon. Put them frozen in a Corningware with a handful of frozen veggies and a light salad dressing. Add a few spoonfuls of dried herbs. Microwave about 5 minutes. I love salmon so this is a favorite.
When we get home late from the City we usually have a complete cereal like Guardian. This wouldn't work for families I guess, how do you do it?

Thank you to those who sent me good advice about eating-I know it's true but it's good to hear it from others.

Can you have one of those meals where everything is cooked by the grocery store and your just reheat it? That way you wouldn't have to cook. It sounds like your DH understands and appreciates what you do, even if no one else seems to? :confused3

Hope the rest of your week-end is better!

I hear you! Cereal for supper works for my kids, I haven't done it for a while, but thanks for for reminding me about it.:thumbsup2

Have you considered a step or some other simple, quiet exercise you can do while watching the Christmas movies? I find I do longer exercising if I do it while I'm enjoying what I'm watching. Musicals, I do really well :thumbsup2 Serious drama, not so great for stepping.

Donac - you are so generous:flower3:, and your SILs' are rather rude. Can you email them and say you will bring the turkey & whatever, and ask that one of them bring buns & salad, & another bring the veggies. It really is unfair for you get stuck with it all. Saying "let's make this a group effort to keep Christmas dinner special for Mom & Dad" might work.
