Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

I have never been interested in sweets!
My food issue is too many meals in the day. I graze and keep on grazing (like my cubby horse)
But never sweets. DSis loves chocolate and cookies -they are always around but I'm just not tempted. So......:confused3
In spite of no sweet tooth I'm still very overweight
Its St Paddy's Day not Halloween thats my big holiday:rolleyes1

Is it the green beer or the corned beef??:rotfl:

I'm with you on the sweets. While I do enjoy a sweet treat now and again, it is things like CHIPS and CHEESE and fries and such that are really a trigger food for me. I can't even BUY sweet potato chips anymore because I have NO control!!

Well.. DD has finally decided that she needs to buy a Halloween costume! Wish us luck... I'm not sure that we will find anything at this point in time. Our nearest big town had their trick or treating last Sunday, so I am sure that most of the stores are pretty well cleaned out... but on the good side, anything left might be on sale!...............P

Congrats 50'sjayne for being the top loser this week. I am happy to make the top ten for the first time.

I will be posting the new COW later.

Question of the Day - Thursday 10/29

Halloween is just a few days away...What is your strategy to stay out of the candy bowl?
The last couple of years I have only been buying lollipops because I don't eat them. It makes it easier to keep out of them. I also have not bought any candy yet and I probably won't until Saturday morning.

I like the talk about Thanksgiving. For the last couple of years by the time I sit down to Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner I am too tired to eat. I spend the morning cooking in my home which is nice but then I have to pack it all up and bring it my in laws. (my inlaws have a stove that is broken and they have never had it replaced and it is going on 5 years) It also helps that we eat at 2 (if it is not 2 then fil starts to yell (yes yell)) and by 3:30 we are on our way home. If I didn't bring a dessert to Easter last year there would have been no dessert or they would have gone out early Easter Sunday morning to buy one.

I took today off as a mental health day, and started with an hour of wii fit, followed by coffee with Ellen Degeneres, and then I had a good cry with some Touched by an Angels tapes that I got from my mom's. She loved that show, and it was a Christmas one and it was so sad, yet so inspiring. I forget who was saying they watched that show a little while back, but you were right, great for a cry. I did do some laundry and clean the kitchen, but then I sat and read Good Housekeeping from cover to cover. (another fav of mom's). I finally got in the shower at 2, and michael came home at 3. I wasn't going to turn on the computer at all today, but he's watching a show, so I thought i'd come on for a minute. I am also still on track with the eating, and all in all, it was a really nice day. I don't take enough me time usually, and it is very therapeutic. At night, when I tend to be too tired after michael goes to bed to do much, and reading usually puts me to sleep.
Question of the Day - Thursday 10/29

Halloween is just a few days away...What is your strategy to stay out of the candy bowl?
Great question. At ww this week, my leader suggested to plan for the candy, and decide how many points worth would be satisfying, take that amount of candy and put it in a plastic bag just for you, and to savor and enjoy it, guilt free. So that's what I did. I bought the candy tuesday, and put aside 20 flex points worth- twix, kitkat, and dots. I haven't had any yet, but looking at the bag, it's a lot of candy, and I'm not going to start on it til halloween. I might trade for some peanut butter cups, since we didn't buy them. Maybe I won't eat it all, but if I want to, that is my choice, and I will do it guilt free. After halloween, Michael's school does a candy drive, and you bring in your candy and they donate it to the troops, so I'll encourage him to send most of his there.

Pjlla- Great job planning ahead for Thanksgiving. It's going to be here before you know it. That pumpkin ravioli sounds fabulous. Sounds like a big challenge for you, but if you plan to enjoy just a little of your favorites, or a lot of one or two favorites, that is ok. Last year before the holiday's my ww leader had us all close our eyes and think about our favorite food for easter, and she made us in our heads to slowly savor it, to take small bites, and really taste them and savor them before swallowing, and not to just eat fast and hardly taste it. She also made us vow to sit down while we were eating, and to concentrate on the food, with little distraction, so we didn't mindlessly eat. It did work. I thought of her and really savored the dessert I had planned to eat.

Lisa- nice job with the halloween candy. It's so nice when we can see that eating something is not worth it. Good work on the exercise too. Hope your meeting went well.

Tigger813- glad your little one is feeling better.

Thanks Shannon for the weight keeping!:thumbsup2

And a big congratulations to all our losers this week, and to #1 50sjayne!!:cool1:

Off to soccer practice. Good luck with weighin tomorrow!!

Mikamah- We all need days like that!

DD2 had her checkup today and is 95th% for height and weight! She then had to have 4 shots and tomorrow will go back with her sister so they can both get a flu shot! Poor kids cried and cried but then DD1 and I got her laughing. Now she's running back and forth down the hallway like a crazy girl! Stopped at McD's for dinner to bring home and now I'm headed down to do 2-3 miles on the elliptical to work it off and maybe if I have time I'll do the Wii Fit. Crazy day tomorrow so I may only get a work out in when I first wake up. Don't know if I'll get a chance to do much of anything before 5 or 6.
Hope everyone has a good night! Gray's and Private Practice for me tonight after Survivor.

OK enough procrastinating! Time to do the last chance workout! Anyone want to join me?!
:banana::yay:

I gained .8 this week. I expected it, what with it being that time of month and all the junk food at school during conferences and parties. But when I weighed myself at home right before weigh in it showed me having lost weight- and my scale normally weighs a pound higher than the WW scale. So I was disappointed because I was expecting to lose weight.

Oh well.

I love working out with my trainer. I think I'm glad I said to go with a nicer trainer. He definitely kicks my ***! I've had two sessions so far and both times I felt like I had no muscles left in my body! I was so proud of myself Monday night for really sticking with it, and I remember thinking, "Thank God,' it's over!" When the trainer said, 'Time for round 2!' He did give me the option of stopping if I was too tired, but I did it. Just knowing that somebody is there watching me (and that I'm paying him!) makes me persevere beyond what I would think possible.

I also have worked out twice on my own, although both times I didn't have time to do two rounds of the routine (but I did work out for an hour!) I think it's a step in the right direction.

I am thinking about getting a bodybugg, but I wanted to get some opinions on it. Does anybody use it?

QOTD: I'm going to be working from about 5pm-2am, so I won't have any sweets to temp me! Plus, more and more I find that I feel ****ty when my blood sugar goes high and that in and of itself is quite the deterrent.

Did 2 miles while watching Bedtime Stories! So I did the 3 mile WATP and 3.5 miles on the elliptical today. Hope it's enough to at least be a maintainer tomorrow instead of a gainer. Going to drink water the rest of the evening to prevent myself from eating more.

I started reading this quickly and I thought it said you were going to be working OUT from 5pm-2AM. See what I have on the brain after just finishing mine!

Have a great evening.

Can anyone tell me about what games are good to do on the WII Fit

My son just got it the other night and I got to try it tonight. I never play video games because I get frustrated. I tried the rhythm karate, the segway where I couldn't turn to save my life and snowball fight.

My son has spent over two hours on the thing every day since he got it.

I am thinking about the Biggest Loser for the WII. ANyone get it yet?

I also signed up for my first official yoga class and it starts next Thursday.

AND only 1 more day until vacation :yay::yay::yay::yay:

I like the step and free step. I love the rhythm parade and the bicycle challenges on the Wii Fit PLUS. They are fun and you can really work up a sweat especially on the biking challenge. I was horrible at the snow ball fight too. I'm ok on the rhythm karate.

I know someone on here has the BL game, but I can't remember who and I think they said they liked it. I have it on my Amazon Wish List.

Halloween is just a few days away...What is your strategy to stay out of the candy bowl?

I found some non-candy options at Costco... Mini playdoh packs and such.
I am running into problems at school. My students have been making treats in food class and bringing them to me to try; of course, nothing healthy. I only have a little, but still not good. Concerned about our Halloween party tomorrow; hopefully I can pace myself with the treats!

QOTD: What is your strategy to stay out of the candy bowl?
Three-fold strategy. One is that I bought nothing for our house. We are staying with my folks over the weekend. However my mom has an entire table full of treats to give out. In comes strategy number 2: moderation. A few pieces of fun-size candy are in my plans. Strategy number 3: Think before I eat. Is this a treat I'm just eating because it's there, or because it's something I love and only eat once or twice a year?

A big congratulations to all our COW participants and especially worfiedoodles for being in first place! :thumbsup2

All the candy in my bowl is in individual bags. I can't see it, and I'd have to open a taped bag to get to it. This also greatly cuts down on the kids wanting to root through the bowl. They seem to like the surprise of not knowing what they're getting -- it could be really great! It's actually three pieces -- a little candy bar, a little twizzler and a little chewy or lollipop.

DS and I make the bags together -- it's actually a fun tradition and definitely helps me stay out of the candy bowl!

Congratulations to all the Big Losers, You Rock! :yay:

Maria :upsidedow

Maria, I used to make treat bags with my Mom for Halloween, too. You are making wonderful memories with your DS!

I'm psyched I made the top 10 again! Still working off last weekend's craziness so I'm hoping to either maintain or lose .1 LOL!

Tracey, you deserve to be in the top 10 again with all the working out that you do! :yay:

I like the talk about Thanksgiving. For the last couple of years by the time I sit down to Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner I am too tired to eat. I spend the morning cooking in my home which is nice but then I have to pack it all up and bring it my in laws. If I didn't bring a dessert to Easter last year there would have been no dessert or they would have gone out early Easter Sunday morning to buy one.

donac, I was thinking that people should pitch in and buy your in-laws a stove but maybe a lawn service would be a better choice? :confused3 You guys deserve a special place in heaven for helping them so much! :goodvibes

Great question. At ww this week, my leader suggested to plan for the candy, and decide how many points worth would be satisfying, take that amount of candy and put it in a plastic bag just for you, and to savor and enjoy it, guilt free. This is a great idea and could be used for Thanksgiving and Christmas treats, too.

My meeting was long and frustrating and I was tired and cranky when I got home. Thank goodness I did my work out this morning! :thumbsup2 But I really perked up and found a new lease on life when I noticed my two new tags! It's amazing how a few bits and bites can make your day. Thank you, Tag Fairy! :flower3:

Tracey, you deserve to be in the top 10 again with all the working out that you do!

Thanks! I truly enjoy working out these days and I feel so energized! It's been giving me energy for lots of other things in my life! I definitely won't make it this week but I'm going to work really hard for next week and not going to over do it this weekend eating and drinking BAD things. Gonna watch out for that candy but still enjoy myself. I had my one handful of M&Ms today which made me feel good. Gotta treat yourself sometimes. It may be raining here on Saturday night so I'll take DD1 and 2 and DD1s friend around and then come back here for the friend to do a sleepover.

Hope I can get on the Wii Fit tomorrow. Been enjoying my return to the elliptical too much this week! And still love my WATP videos! Gonna try and find some Irish Step music tomorrow so DD1 and I can practice this weekend!:cool1:

Good Morning, Biggest Losers!

As Dona said yesterday, we thought we'd take a break from the COW and focus on pampering ourselves a little bit. The more I thought about this, the more I thought we should work on our minds and spirits (although if you're inspired to do something for your body, that's awesome!). Each day I'm going to have a short activity you can do to improve your focus, or just take a few moments out to devote to yourself!

Pampering Activity For Friday:

Spend 10 minutes reading something you normally wouldn't -- a newspaper (online is fine!), book, magazine, comic book -- it doesn't matter as long as you read about a topic you normally wouldn't to get your mind thinking in a new way.

We are not awarding points or keeping track -- as always, this is completely optional. Just a way to challenge your mind!

My dh has a shelf full of books I would never read -- but today I'm going to spend 10 minutes with Alice Cooper, Golf Monster. It seems like it could be appropriately scary for this time of year! ;)

Maria :upsidedow

I weighed myself before I went to bed last night and told my hubby, "I have to lose .2 pounds in my sleep and I'll hit 3 pounds for the week." Imagine my surprise when I woke up and I was down not only 3 but 3.2. I know, big difference, but still! Awesome week for me! I lost less than that all month last month. LOL! So, that brings me to 10.2 since Sept 1st. Actually Sept 24th is you start when I started trying.

Thank you to disneychrista for being our coach last week and pjlla for being our coach this week!

Thank you, too, worfiedoodles, for running our pampering/expand your horizons activities this week. I will post a link to each activity in post #4 of this thread, just like I do with the COW to help people find it.

If I recall it is your DH who is the Alice Cooper fan so maybe you can wow DH with some interesting Alice Cooper fact that he didn't know! ;)

Nice loss, Lynsey! There is a WISH clippie at the bottom of the smilies you can use to celebrate your 10 lbs. loss.

I lost a pound and I am happy to have done so because I got my 15 lb clippie back. I really would like to have a 25 lb. one by the end of the year so I need to put some "hustle in my bustle" as my Mom says! :rotfl:

Please be sure and PM your weigh in info to LuvBaloo and your COW points to donac.

Have a great day, all!

I'm down a half a pound and I'll take it. I learned something very important this year. I'm down over seventy and this summer I gained some back. Why? Because I didn't appreciate where I was. And it's time to appreciate every step.
