Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

Question of the Day - Wednesday 10/28/09

What weight loss, fitness, health related websites do you read? Do you subscribe to any diet, fitness health related e-newsletters?

I love Spark People. I log on to it everyday. I also belong to groups that help me with my goals, like the Mpls/St. Paul Sparkers. I get to go to rallies with them and we offer daily support to one another. Like this group!:goodvibes

I also read Health, Shape, WW, Self and Fitness. I am kind of a magazine addict!! My roommate and I each subscribe to a few and then share! Saves money and we get to read everything we want!
I find something helpful in each issue!

My life seems overly chaotic right now!!! I thought my family would grow a little closer after my Grandpa's death, but all they have done is fight. :confused3 Now it is getting nasty and I am stuck in the middle. I had 7 phone calls last night from angry relatives. I am really trying to keep myself on track, but the stress is starting to take it's toll. Sorry for the long vent, just needed to get it off my chest! Thanks for listening!

Have a Magical Day!!! pixiedust:

QOTD:
I sometimes buy the Weight Watchers magazine. I subscribe to Sparkpeople but mainly just read the emails they send. I also get emails from Jillian Michaels site.

Home with DD2 today. She still had a fever last night so I kept her home today. We are just starting to watch the New Tinkerbell movie that she got for her birthday yesterday. She's also painting in her Tinkerbell art book that she got.

Did the 2 mile WATP this morning and am going to try and do 2.5 miles on the elliptical after watching the movie. Hope to get in another small workout later and I also will be giving a massage tonight. Still trying to get last weekend's overeating weight gone. I'm going to be able to be good this weekend as we have no plans besides a soccer game and me taking the girls trick or treating!

QOTD: I don't subscribe to anything health/fitness-related anymore. Hmm, I think I should sign up for one of the e-mail sites.

I mostly just come to the WISH threads on the DIS, but I also get a weekly e-letter from the Dinner Diva, and I did Sparkpeople for awhile. I'm also often on WW Online.

In print, I read Shape and Fitness, and WW Magazine.

I'm eager to hear what others are doing, I love to read!

Maria :upsidedow

This is the only weight loss site I visit. I have the WW monthly pass, so I could use their website, but I've never found anything terribly useful there. I just go to the weekly meetings and come here daily. If I spend too much time on-line, I always feel like I'm neglecting other things, so I limit myself to about 30 minutes/day.

I use eatTracker from the Dietians of Canada. Also I go onto a site called mind, body.spirit I think.
This is my first forum for weight loss and it has been very enjoyable.:goodvibes

Well so far I've just been ignoring it. My kids are too big to trick or treat so there won't be that temptation. Gosh I miss that-- all the different kinds of candy spread out all over the floor lol. My thing the last few years is I sit in the front room and answer the door drinking a nice desert wine. One more expensive than I normally buy. I'm really looking forward to this year's--triple berry from Honeywood winery. I do so like those little packs of almond joys...:sad2:

Group weight loss goal 500 pounds! We’re over half-way there!

Before the weekly superstar list comes the disclaimer. I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference this is the magic percentage of weight lost formula - weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week times 100, that gives us the percentage. Now let me test that with my numbers for week 1, click, click, click goes the calculator. Yes, that agrees with the percentage on the magic spreadsheet.

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of week X? This week I’ve went with a simple TOP 10 LIST! Mostly since I’m late getting this done and not feeling creative! That criteria may change from week to week. Hey I'm in charge here and I get paid nothin' to do this so you better take what you can get!;);):rotfl: (and if there’s something you want to know, just ask me!)

Question of the Day - Thursday 10/29

Halloween is just a few days away...What is your strategy to stay out of the candy bowl?

All the candy in my bowl is in individual bags. I can't see it, and I'd have to open a taped bag to get to it. This also greatly cuts down on the kids wanting to root through the bowl. They seem to like the surprise of not knowing what they're getting -- it could be really great! It's actually three pieces -- a little candy bar, a little twizzler and a little chewy or lollipop.

DS and I make the bags together -- it's actually a fun tradition and definitely helps me stay out of the candy bowl!

Congratulations to all the Big Losers, You Rock! :yay:

GREAT JOB 50sJAYNE!!!!

candy -- this is a hard temptation for me -- i have to just not start, once i give in then i can't stop!!

Congrats 50sJayne!

I'm psyched I made the top 10 again! Still working off last weekend's craziness so I'm hoping to either maintain or lose .1 LOL!

QOTD:
I'm going to drink a lot of water and if I want any candy I will reach for the hard candy or 3 Musketeers. I also try and always have the 100 Calorie snacks around so I can always reach for those.

Time to head downstairs for my 3 mile WATP! Keeping DD2 home 1 more day so I know she's healthy for Halloween and her party at school tomorrow. She has her yearly check up this afternoon so I can get her checked then anyways. Her temp is finally back to normal but better safe than sorry, especially this year!

Happy Day everyone! The weekend is almost here!

I broke out the WATP Walk and Jog last night. I told my hubby I was going to do something that wasn't too hard since I had running around to do afterwards. It's old, VHS actually, so I had to go to the basement where the only VCR is. It's cold in my basement but when I got done I was sweating! It kicked my butt more than I thought it would. It was nothing like a 25 minute run and I didn't burn near as many calories but it got me moving. Thanks for reminding me I had that!

As for the QOTD: I have had candy in the house for months. I started buying it one bag at a time as soon as it came out because I'm in a super busy trick or treat area and it can get expensive if you get it all at once. I hide it in a closet. That way everyone, not only myself, stays out of it.

My girls went T or Ting on the 10th and they still have a ton of candy. I have that on top of the fridge and don't bat an eye when handing it to them to pick one thing every now and then. Having Oct as my sweet free month has helped tremendously.

I go off the sweet free thing on Sat and I'm going to treat myself with a coffee, I went from 1 sometimes 2 a week to none in 30 days so I can't wait. I may also make some cookies and have just one so I stay away from the rest of the junk all night. I've been dying to try these cookies and they look at me everytime I open the freezer so I know that would mean more to me than any candy bar out there.

I'm going to try to keep November as sweet free as possible too but nothing is "off limits" like it has been in October. I totally believe you crave what you eat so I'm trying to stay away so I don't crave it at all at some point.

Congratulations to all of our superstars and especially to our biggest loser, 50jayne! :cool1: And, thank you, Shannon, for being keeper of the numbers!

Thank you, disneychrista, for being our coach this week. :goodvibes You had some very interesting questions.

Question of the Day - Thursday 10/29

Halloween is just a few days away...What is your strategy to stay out of the candy bowl?

I finally had some ephiphany about the Halloween candy this year. (It wasn't as exciting or dramatic as a Biggest Loser ephiphany ;)). There is some candy in the house and I haven't touched it. It's not like it isn't the good stuff either because we don't get many trick or treaters so what is here is stuff that would be eaten so it doesn't get wasted. I did have a couple of mini-candy bars last week-end but they didn't taste all that great. Not to mention when I think of one little candy bar having 100 calories and what you have to do to burn it off, that takes away a lot of the pleasure. I did hear its siren's call last night for a bit while I was watching Biggest Loser but I told myself that was too stupid and the craving past!

Hope this works for Christmas and Thanksgiving treats, too. :rolleyes1

Please remember to PM your weigh-in info to LuvBaloo and your COW points to donac tomorrow.

Did my last chance workout this morning so I am all set for my big, long probably frustrating meeting today.

Have a great day all!

Question of the Day - Thursday 10/29

Halloween is just a few days away...What is your strategy to stay out of the candy bowl?

Well... to start with I only bought my candy last night, so it hasn't been sitting around calling my name. And truly, once I put it away last night, I totally forgot about it.

I think that I will pick two items on Saturday to eat... maybe two of my favorites like a tiny 3 Musketeer and 1 Reese's pb cup and then call it done. Once Sunday arrives, I will be avoiding it all together. I don't plan on opening every bag of candy at once... just one at at time... if I bought too much I will probably return what we didn't open or save it for a school/robotics event.

I do like the Walk and Jog, but I agree, it is not like running. If I do it using 5 lb ankle weights and 1 lb wrist weights I can definitely break a sweat and breath hard! I combined it with the Walk and Kick the other day (did them back to back) and it was actually almost fun! I find it more enjoyable to combine two of the shorter walks than to do one longer one.

And good for you on having a successful sweet-free month!

Well.... I was giving some thought this morning in the shower about my Thanksgiving food strategy. I know it is early, but I think if I committ my plan to paper and really think about it, I can have a successful holiday without gaining 5 or more pounds. Once I have my plan in place, I will write it and read it faithfully until the big day(s).

I have a bigger challenge over the holiday than some folks. We celebrate on Thanksgiving Thursday with DH's family (it is a TOTAL eat-a-thon, as usual with his family). DSIL does it up BIG. She usually picks a theme and I cannot begin to tell you how much food she prepares... it is almost sinfully wasteful. It is nothing to have (in addition to turkey), three kinds of stuffing, two or three kinds of potatoes, and anywhere from four to EIGHT other side dishes (things like homemade pumpkin ravioli with maple butter comes to mind :scared1:)... plus the usual cranberry sauce and rolls. PLUS we usually start with at least an hour or so of drinks and appetizers (chowder, cheese and crackers, shrimp and cocktail sauce, fruit tray, etc, etc, etc!!) and of course, there is always dessert (although this is usually not as huge a course) like cheesecake and homemade cookies and squares (DMIL love to bake and bake and bake!).

THEN on Friday we have Thanksgiving (again) with my family!! My family does not tend to do the eat-a-thon thing (no appetizers and many less sides dishes), but it is still a big meal with turkey, potatoes, veggies, sweet rolls, etc. And dessert is a bigger deal with my family (probably because we are not so full because we don't have appetizers and as big a meal as DH's family). My aunt almost ALWAYS makes homemade lemon meringue pie for me because I LOVE it. I only have it twice a year... on T.giving and Easter, so I always indulge in a piece (or two!).

Last year, by Friday night, I was feeling a bit ill. I had overindulged on a belly that was NOT used to the big meals any more. (And keeping in mind, I DID make an effort not to eat like I have in the past!!) It took me almost a week before my belly felt normal again and I DON'T want to do that again. So I MUST have a plan in place and FOLLOW IT!

Anyhow... I got called to work a bit unexpectedly today, so I didn't get up early to exercise. DD isn't going to swim practice tonight so I will have to be sure to get in a workout at home tonight. It may not be until 7pm, but I am committing to AT LEAST 30 minutes tonight at home. There... now that I said it out loud I KNOW I will do it! :yay:

I'll be back later to see how everyone is doing!..........P

Super job avoiding the Halloween candy! You are right.... when you think about how much work is involved in working OFF that candy, it seems almost ridiculous to eat it! And good job thinking ahead to the holiday treats. I just posted about the fact that I am already thinking ahead to T.giving.

Glad you got your last chancec workout in. If your meeting is REALLY frustrating, maybe you can take some of that energy tonight and do another bit of exercise tonight! But of course, no stress if you can't because you planned ahead and got your exercise done early! Wish I could say I did!

Thanks to disneychrista for coaching! I am "up to bat" for coaching this week... I hope I can think of some good QOTD! There have been some great questions asked by all of our coaches lately!

Great job to 50sJayne! I was the BL last week, so I know how exciting it is!! Isn't it funny that something like that can get us SO excited!! But is a great booster to our healthy living lifestyle to have a "title" like that to work towards!

See you all later....................P

I should try that since I also have both of those. My calves are sore today. I'm wondering if they aren't too sore to complete my 28 minute run this afternoon. If they still burn when I get home I may resort to the 2 videos. I plan on taking a rest day tomorrow so the 28 minute run would be pushed back to Sat if that's the case. That doesn't sound good but it may have to work.

I just now saw I am finally in the top 10. That's my first time! Hopefully I make it there this week also. I'm showing a pretty decent loss as of this morning so let's hope it stays or takes along some friends and it's really good.

Good Morning Everyone! :goodvibes

Congrats to all the Biggest Losers this week!! You all rock! :cool1:

I am feeling good today because I FINALLY feel back on track!!!

It has taken a long time for me to get to this place and I am going to run with it!!! I am also going to get exercise in. :yay:

I hope everyone has a magical day! pixiedust:

Molly :woohoo:

:welcome: to our newest member, tinkamom!

pjlla, good job on thinking about the Thanksgiving strategy already. With your big celebrations that will really payoff!

Molly, good job on running with the groove!

Have a great day all!

I have never been interested in sweets!
My food issue is too many meals in the day. I graze and keep on grazing (like my cubby horse)
But never sweets. DSis loves chocolate and cookies -they are always around but I'm just not tempted. So......:confused3
In spite of no sweet tooth I'm still very overweight
Its St Paddy's Day not Halloween thats my big holiday:rolleyes1
