Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

I have to make weight loss a priority, and I also have to keep the other areas of my life functioning. I still have a family, a career, and other commitments. I owe it to myself to have a full-life, just a bit less well-rounded. ;)

Maria :upsidedow

I had to quote this because it is so true!

Raenstoirm - great pictures of the animals in costume!

sahbushka - congrats on your new clippie! You are amazing!

Eeyores Butterfly - hope today's weigh in goes well and that you start to feel better soon.

Shortynbug - don't let one day get you down. One of my favourite little sayings, is if you drop one dish emptying the dishwasher, you don't throw the rest on the floor. ;)

jennz - that's great that you have started to see the light. I hope it continues to shine for you :goodvibes

For Wednesdays QOTD:

Pick your favorite Disney spot (WDW, DLR, Castaway Cay, DCL, etc) WHERE WOULD YOU BE RIGHT NOW???? What would you be doing, give us details!

AND how do you envision your next trip to WDW/DLR/DCL to be different after your successful weight loss journey?

Today, I really feel like being at Castaway Cay. I would have just spent some time building sandcastles on the beach with my DD's while DH did some snorkeling, and now that he's come back, I'm heading for the water to do some snorkeling. DH would have already found the Mickey statue and told me whereabouts to look, and I would be finding it. The first time we went I couldn't snorkle, I couldn't get my body to believe it could breathe through the snorkle, just panic once I put my face in the water. Last time I managed to do the snorkeling, but the Mickey statue was out for repair, but I found Minnie :thumbsup2). I would be wearing a T-shirt so I don't get sunburnt. Then I'd head back to DH and the girls and we'd go grab some lunch. And by some miracle the kids would have learned to ride bikes and we would go for a bike ride.

The biggest difference will be in my comfort, and my stamina. I don't just want to lose weight, I want to get some more stamina.:thumbsup2

I hope everyone has a great "hump" day OP. I challenge you to get in an extra 15 minutes of exercise, over and above what you had planned. Can you do it???

Yes I can! I was aiming for at least 15 minutes today, hopefully 30, but I will accept the challenge and push for 45min! It may be 2 segments, but it will be done:thumbsup2

I did the WATP 3 mile walk and then finally got a chance to try out the Wii Fit PLUS! It's pretty cool. There is a bicycling, skateboarding, snowball fight game. They were fun. I'm going to try the obstacle course in awhile. There are also mini routines to focus on a certain area and they are quite good. I'll give more details after I try it out some more.

:thumbsup2 thanks for sharing your thoughts on the WiiFit PLUS. I might put that on my Christmas wish list. I'm finding that unless I get up early, I don't really use the WiiFit or the Jillian one I have. I end up just using my step box while I watch TV.

I love this QOTD! Who doesn't like to dream about vacation?! :cloud9:

My favorite Disney spot today (and let's face it, it changes, I can be fickle :rolleyes1) is the Yacht and Beach Club pool. I'm going to float around the lazy river, whiz down the slide, dig my toes into the sand bottom section, and when I get tired, plunk myself down on a lounger and let the warm sun bathe me with gentle warmth. I'm hanging out all day, so I'll have a few snacks, no need to leave the pool area -- and tonight I'll stand in the shallow end and watch Illuminations while a balmy breeze whispers by. When I decide it's time to call it a night, I'll head into my room at the BC, and relax on the balcony (hey, I had a hard day), with a lovely hot tea and dark chocolate mousse truffle.

My next trip to WDW is in January for the WDW Half Marathon. These trips have historically been an odd dichotomy for me -- I'm super vigilant about food, rest, etc. before I run, and then all bets are off afterwards. I guess the big difference will be I'm going to try even harder to have some moderation after the race. I'm still getting my carrot cake cookie, but not one a day!

I have to say that it's really cool. The obstacle course is challenging. There is a rhythm King Fu that is quite fun as well as the rhythm parade. And when you do the run, you follow a dog and you are also quizzed about what you saw on your run. I only got 1 out of 3 questions correct. There are more advanced table tilt and bubble ball games that I did horribly on. You can also pick an area to work on and they will give you 3 exercises to do such as yoga, strength and one of the major activities.
For $20 it is WELL worth it! DD1 and DD2 are doing it right now before they have their after school dancing and performing arts class. I hope to get on again later!

Has anyone gotten Jillian's new game for the Wii? I'm curious to know how that is as she was TOTALLY involved in its creation and her voice and avatar are on the game.

Sarah congrats on being biggest loser this week! And 50 pounds - wow!!!!:woohoo: Do you have any tips to share?

Thanks! As far as tips go, here are a couple that work for me....

1) have gum ready and don't be afraid to use it....sometimes your mouth just needs to be busy and gum lasts longer and has way less calories than just about anything else!

2) Drink lots of water! I usually have 7-10 bottles of water a day. I make sure I don't have any diet soda until I get at least 6 in so I know that I am well hydrated.

3) Learn your pitfalls and brainstorm healthy ways of dealing with them.

Besides that it is all personal. You have to find what works for you. You won't stay with something you don't like or doesn't work with your lifestyle, so find a healthy option that does! We can do this!

Oh, and I have found that LuvBaloo's quote about the dishes has been extremely helpful to my weight loss. I have thought of it many times when I made a not so great decision and had to choose to keep going down that road or return to the one I had just departed from that was the road to health.

I would be at Le Celier (sp?) eating pretzel breadsticks. I know, food not a good thing to look forward too on here! If I could be anywhere at anytime, it would be the TTA at around 2 am when the park closes at 3 am. It feels like you are the only person alive!

I do both of these myself. Although I have one cup of hot green tea and then have to have at least one 32oz bottle of water before I can have a soda. That's usually about lunch. If it's before lunch, I drink more water until lunch. I usually have the better part of my second 32oz bottle gone before I leave work if not all gone.

I lost 40 pounds a few summers ago and this helped tremendously.

There is sooooo much I would love to say right now, but I have to run. I feel like I am ALWAYS running! I read everyones posts, and I am going to try and catch up, but in the mean time I want to congratulate our big Losers!!! Way to go!

QOTD for Thursday:

Inspired from the Biggest Loser show last night.... Did you see the commercial regarding a Biggest Loser Vacation Destination? Looks like you can go to a "ranch" where they will customize weight loss for you...

Would you go?
How much would you be willing to spend?
Who would you take with you, or would you go by yourself?
What would you expect they could do for you?
Would you try and loose weight before you go?

I would do it in a second!
I would be willing to spend about $1000 (don't tell DH, we don't have that money to spend)
I would take DH as he also needs to lose some weight. Though I do love my teddy bear!
I would expect that they could give me the proper workouts and food choices to reach my goal faster!
I would continue to do what I have been doing!

OT I was just bad and fixed myself a drink! I only have one "Drink" a week so this will be it. My parents just left today after a 3 week visit that takes a lot out of me. My mom and I did walk but my dad has health issues (memory, possible Parkinsons or Alzheimers) and my mom doesn't know how to handle these issues and gets my BP boiling! I stayed home today and shampooed the carpets and did the 3 mile WATP and then tried the Wii Fit Plus to work off my stress. But I really wanted a drink so that will be it for the week. I plan on doing some more Wii Fit Plus tonight, the free step and the new obstacle course to off set the drink! Oh well, I will be able to be good this weekend! Sorry for the rambling! It's been a loooooonnngggg day! Thanks BLers!

If you mean Fitness Ultimatum, I do have it. There are some good things about it and some bad things. The graphics are bad, nowhere close to being as good as WiiFit. The instructions are poor and the movements you do, don't match what is happening on the screen very well. It took a few tries to get the log jumping work and I still can't get good results on the paint grenade throw.
I do like that you enter in the time for your workout and then it takes you through some exercises until the time is up. I also like the music selection and I like the tips that unlock as you use it. If at possible, I would say rent it to try before buying. It sounds like WiiPlus is a better game/exercise toy.

I was checking it out online (biggestloserresort.com), and the pictures look nice. I was disappointed in the lack of information in the website. (sample menus, sample daily routines, and prices should be on the website, not just phone for more information)
Yes I would go, but there's no way I'd be able to afford it. I'd like to go for 2 weeks if it could be done for $1000, but I'm sure it couldn't be.
I'd go with my DH since we both need it and hopefully we'd motivate each other. Or I'd go by myself and make it "me time".
I'd hope that in 2 weeks I'd get to try a bunch of different exercises and find ones that I enjoy and would be able to do at home. I'd hope to learn the right exercises to do to lose weight and firm up.
I wouldn't try to lose weight before any more than I already am. Well, maybe I'd put some extra effort into cardio exercises to try to get a bit more stamina before going there.

:rotfl: great minds think alike! As I was typing my answers, Tigger813 posted hers, and many are the same :goodvibes Now if I could only start making the top 10 list like you do!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the info on the Jillian game! I was curious!

You will make the top ten! I was shocked as last week was not a good week for me. We'll see how this week goes. As of this morning I was down .8 for the week. I did do some earlier workouts and plan on doing at least the 30 minute free step but I had my "DRINK" for the week. I usually wait until Friday but it was a stressful morning.

I'm glad we are on the same wave length!:):rotfl::yay::woohoo:

Hi everyone. I haven't been on, been having a rough few days. Not talking about the weight but thinking about dh.

Hunting season started last Saturday and he loved hunting. The man had about 24 tree stands. :lmao: He had so many different camaflouge clothes I told him that he could go anywhere in the world and fit in. :rotfl: His brother came by and he was upset too because they always hunted together. It didn't make a difference if they actually got anything they just loved going out to the woods and hanging around.

This is also the time of the year when we would take the dgkids to the mountains. He loved the mountains, loved walking the trails and if he could have he would have moved there. The kids wanted to know if we were going to the mountains and I had to tell them I don't know. I have never driven in the mountains so I will have to think this one over.

I think about him all the time but this week I seem to be exceptionally teary. I had one good cry about two weeks ago and I guess it must be time for me to have another one (if you ever need to cry just watch "Touched by an Angel").

I have always been so strong but his passing has just taken it out of me. I guess it really is just one day at a time.

Okay enough of feeling sorry for myself. Congratulations Sarah on being the top loser this week. Congratulations on all the losers and maintainers and better luck next weigh in for the gainers (me).

tigger - it IS draining to be with your parents when you're changing the roles that you've had for a lifetime!! I hope you enjoyed your drink! :goodvibes

Shirley  there's not enough I can say to you... enjoy your memories of your dh and remember him in this season that he loved so much. And I have to lol at "Touched by an Angel" those shows are tearjerkers!!

Has anyone tried the new BL game for the wii yet? It got good reviews on Amazon from the few people who have tried it. I might have to get it! (shocking - a treat for myself! what am I thinking??!:rotfl2:)

That will be a point for the COW. :rotfl2: Thanks for your kind words.

I would be at WDW right now at the quiet pool of our resort. We thought we might try POR as we both love the Southern Antebellum theme. I like to have a quiet night after spending all day at the parks. There might be a drink involved.
If I could go to WDW at my goal weight? WOW. I'd like to be able to wear the "cute" and "hip" clothes my sister wears instead of my big baggy stuff. I'd love to be able to happily wear shorts instead of always in long pants.

I missed weigh-in this week, I don't know why but I thought we reported Thursday?:confused3
In any case I still have not lost any more than the 4 week-2 lbs. When I went to WDW for my 50th I lost 27lbs.

Congrats to everyone that lost and those maintaining.

I am such an idiot! I was so excited to see the superstars this week because I thought that there was a good chance I would make it (I keep track of my own percentages.) I was surprised to see I wasn't on there, but figured it was an honest mistake. Only to realize it was my mistake. I totally sent LuvBaloo the wrong weight! :lmao:

I did gain .8 this week, but I am confident I can get to my 5 lb weight loss next week. If only I can beat this cold. I"m going back to a doctor tomorrow because it feels like I am getting bronchitis again. I would love to walk my dogs, but that's not happening any time soon.
