Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

HI airtime247, that is a great idea!

My user name is redwalker because I have red hair and I LOVE to walk. My grandfather once said and I quote "You walk, you live." and I truely believe that. I usually walk 5miles mwf and 3m tues/thrus. It is a routine I believe works. I have also done a 1/2 marathon, last Oct...it was the most amazing feeling crossing the finish line!

I do have a mini-goal I have a goal to loose 2-3lbs a week. So far, this week I have hit that goal, so YA for me! I hope to be down a total of 9lbs total by my birthday bringing me more than half way to my ultimate goal of -17lbs. I am trying to get more sleep too.

I don't really plan out my meals, but have a list of items in my head that I know work for my body and my goals. I never skip a meal, I ususally eat about every 4 hours. So, I always have a snack @3ish. I usually eat almonds, they seem to be key in my weightloss sucess, so I swear by them. I do drink about 90oz of water a day-that is also key. I try to plan out my meals according to the protien I am feeding my family for dinners, fish/chicken/turkey and about once a week steak or hamburger. I try to eat 5 fruit/veg a day too.
It is great to meet you airtime247, I look forward to hearing about your sucess!

We had a super busy week at work, so this is the first time I've had a chance to get on the computer since the challenge started.

Background: I'm a 33 year old mom of 2 girls, ages 9 and 12. I'm an OB charge nurse and work full time night shift. DH is 34 and is a grocery manager. The girls are involved in softball, cheerleading, volleyball, and gymnastics, so we're always on the go.

Thurs. QOTD: If I was at WDW right now, I'd be at MK waiting for Wishes to start. After Wishes, I'd ride as many rides as I could during EMH and the park would be open til 1am.

Friday QOTD: My screen name is our initials (Scott, Sara, Kristi, and Emily M.) and 96 is the year we were married.

I don't have any specific mini goals for the challenge other than trying to stay OP with WW. I don't think I'll be able to do the COW for the water, but I try to do the 6 glasses of liquids that WW suggests, which is still hard for me sometimes, but at least any liquid counts. As far as the 5 minutes of "me time" daily, if I manage to make it onto the disboards, that pretty much takes care of that!

Sat./Sun. QOTD: I try to plan out our meals a week in advance. I use the crockpot a lot because I don't like to have to actually touch the meat or anything, just dump it in! DH cooks a lot on the grill. Sometimes it's hard with all of the kids' activities, and I like to sleep til supper time when possible if I'm working 2 nights back to back. I generally buy most of the stuff I'll need for the week at once, and DH calls before he comes home from work to see if we need anything, so I never have to run out for milk or anything like that. That's one advantage to him working in a grocery store.

We're going to a b-day party tomorrow for my friend's 4 year old boy. We'll be eating dinner there, so I'm hoping for some healthy choices. Last time she made sure she had the hot dogs I like (Oscar Mayer Turkey Cheese dogs), and I'm sure there will be a veggie tray, so I just have to stay away from the bad stuff!

I'm just going to post one QOTD for Sat/Sun:

Do you plan your menu daily, weekly or just make it up as you go?

Up until my dh got sick I used to plan weekly, then while he was sick it was make it up as you go just so I could try and get him to eat. Now since he passed away it is still make it up as I go along.

I am still having a problem cooking for one person of course it has only been one month and I haven't really been trying to hard. I did go and one of the small crock pots so hopefully I will be able to have something cooked when I get home from work.

C A GG (yes, I'm lazy ) - I loved both of your BL banners that you created. :lovestruc

Sat/Sun QOTD: No planning. With eating throughout my weight loss I only try -TRY;) - to eat consciously and eat only what I love. I've found over years past that I can eat and eat and eat searching for what I really wanted to eat in the first place. :sad2::rotfl::surfweb:

QOTD :

Hi Everyone,

In response to the QOTD we have always been ones to figure out dinner at the last minute, but last week my DH and I made a 2 week list of what we would have for dinner every night. Well its working out fantastic. We are saving so much time, I have been really organized and of course I don't know why it has taken us so long to start doing this but its been 1 week today. Tomorrow is Chicken Souvlaki and Greek Style Roasted Potatoes with a tomato and cucumber salad - I am so looking forward to tomorrow - yum yum :lovestruc

What time should I be there? Sounds delicious to me! :goodvibes

I'm trying to find some motivation to do my 4.5 mi run. TOM appeared and I just feel very sluggish, wonky, and in quite a bit of discomfort. I think I may do something else today and add a long walk during the BL premiere Tuesday night...

I managed to do the COW Friday and yesterday, which is big for me. That's alot of water! Note to self -- don't leave 3 glasses until after you go to bed. I made it, but I also made alot of trips to the restroom last night. :rolleyes1

I'll be starting this morning with a lovely cup of hot tea, then switching to cold water. :goodvibes

I plan everything except the last meal. The last, depends on how I feel hungrywise. I usually start the day with cereal (usually plain Cheerios) and No-Fat milk w/banana or blueberries. During the day I have more fruit, a yogurt, and dry cereal. With the H2O (~3 Liters) that usually keeps me full throughout the day.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Good Morning everyone. I was a little disappointed with my weigh-in on Friday. I'm up a couple lbs from where I thought I was, I am now 13 lbs away from my goal. I was hoping to switch over to the maintainers before this challenge was over, not impossible, but not the easiest either. I didn't have a good start with my eating on Friday. I'm training for a marathon right now, and ran 18 miles on Friday morning. The rest of the day I just grazed my way thru the day. I am sure I consumed much more than I burned off from my run. One thing I need to work on during this challenge is to wait at least 3 hours between my meals/snacks. I usually graze all day. Saturday's eating wasn't much better. I am hoping to get on track today. Off to a good start so far.

I usually do much better with my eating if I plan my meals for the week ahead. I hope to make out my menu today for the rest of the week and then get to the grocery store.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Glad today is better for you. 18 miles! I should think you could eat anything you want on that day. I'm sure it's not true, but that's an awesome accomplishment.

Good evening everyone. Nice to see it busy.

Dh and I went to see the new movie 9. I can't say I hated it and I can't say I loved it. I really did not like the ending.

Have a great day everyone. DOn't forget the COW. It is really easy this week.

Yes, remember the COW. And you don't have to do it all week -- just do it for a few days if you are new to the COW and want to give it a try. :goodvibes

dona, I didn't like 9 at all. We saw it Friday. Although I have to admit that the visuals are amazing the story line was weak and it was just too darn scary, especially for kids!

Up until my dh got sick I used to plan weekly, then while he was sick it was make it up as you go just so I could try and get him to eat. Now since he passed away it is still make it up as I go along.

 to you, Shirley. It's a tough time in your life adjusting to DH being gone. I am so sorry for your loss. You took care of DH when he needed it and now it is time for you to take care of yourself.

When I was single I would make something with four servings and freeze one or two servings. That way I didn't get tired of it. I also always had fruit and salad fixings and would just add to that. I was much thinner and healthier then, too.

Wow, Cindy, 18 miles! That is amazing! I think that we all have a tendency to overestimate the calories burned on a workout and use it for a chance to overeat. Corinnak said something that made a lot of sense to me recently -- I know I can always eat more than I work off. Knowing that and making a plan to deal with that fact is half the battle I think. Maybe you can still graze but have smaller portions. Our biggest loser for the summer challenge, sahbushka, eats every two hours or so, I believe.

Welcome, redwalker! You may want to go to the test board and rack up your posts so you can PM LuvBaloo your starting weight.

Have a great day all!

mikamah, I thought of you when I saw this point. Maybe 50sjayne will chime in as I believe that she saw this when it came through Portland last summer -- or maybe someone else did. I am sure that Michael would love a Disney train!

Thanks. I went and checked out the other thread, and the train looks pretty cool. I'm trying to plan a weekend to visit my bro in western ma, so I'll firm up with him first, and then maybe go and meet some dis-ers.

Yeah we went to see the train it was very well managed and very cool. We got there really early so didn't wait in line more than 20 minutes and the line was fun--christmas carolers and snow (in July lol) Still haven't figured out how to get the pictures off my phone...Be sure and wear your lmgh's. I looked in vain trying to spot some but alas there were none.
I'm in the didn't like 9 club. I'm ready for a real Tim Burton movie--hello Alice in Wonderland! I guess I'm glad it made me see district 9 though as I saw it, thinking it was 9 and was pleasantly surprised by it. I would have never seen that otherwise. Can't wait for biggest loser tomorrow!
Yeah the water has been harder than I thought but I'm managing. Thought about the me time thing and took my book to the Crosby Stills and Nash concert that we just sat outside to listen to-it was husbands thing so I just sat under a light and read while he ran around. It was at an outdoor ampitheater thing and a lot of people just hang out outside the perimiter to listen. We had a nice picnic though, nice park.

Cindy - I know you're frustrated but I just wanted to say congratulations on all your accomplishments.

thanks for the info. I'm going to check it out.

Just sayin' hi. Hi Kathy. :goodvibes

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Hello, all! Some of you know me from my WISH Journal and from running the exercise challenges this year (feel free to join any time!) For those that don't, I'm 49, sahm, married, & have 3 kids, all at home - DS23 (my source of stress eating), DS20 and DD17. I've been on/off WW since 1/2003 and have never made goal since I'm up/down & can't seem to make it in more than about 1x/month.

Bought a BodyBugg last spring & it is a wonderful tool! Unfortunately, on 7/29, while on a cruise, I started breaking out in hives & still am. I have also apparently become allergic/sensitive, to the metal on the BB, so I haven't been wearing it much. And, I've been on Zyrtec for 6 weeks and gained 7+ lbs. :scared1: Somehow I have to get back in control!!

My goal now is to be in the 140s by Christmas & GET RID OF THE HIVES!!!!! For some reason I thought WI was this coming Friday & just now reported - I'm a compulsive weigher, so I had weighed on Fri - starting at 165.8...UGH!!!!!! I was 158.6 less than 5 weeks ago post cruise/pre-Zyrtec.

QOTD: Thurs. - I don't know where I'd be!! I've only been to WDW 2x but go to FL frequently to visit my DSis about an hour from the parks. Trying to plan a trip w/ DD for 1st week in Oct as she doesn't remember WDW and cried when we were briefly at FtW & rode the monorail around by MK & Epcot.

QOTD: Fri - goldcupmom is from when DS20 was a gymnast for GoldCup - I was in charge of their annual coed invitational for years & needed a name/email everyone could remember - wish there was a way to change my screen name on here w/o starting over.....

QOTD: Sat/Sun - I rarely plan ahead as we have 5 people w/ 5 different & constantly changing schedules. Much of the time our meals are 'everyone for themselves', but I keep a very well stocked house - DS20's friends joke that if there is ever a food shortage, they all know where to go. No lie, we could live for about 3 mo off my stockpiles....habit from growing up on an ammunition base during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

More later....benadryl is putting me to sleep! I had to stop the Zyrtec last Wed as I have an allergist appt this Thursday. No benadryl after Tuesday & I am dreading it!!

I'm just going to post one QOTD for Sat/Sun:

Do you plan your menu daily, weekly or just make it up as you go?

I do a good job of planning my lunches everyday, I am a teacher and I dislike the school food we have. I try really hard to plan at least 3 dinners a week. I also try to find 1 new recipie to try each week. It keeps my meals from getting boring.:upsidedow

I have seriously slacked off on the planning this summer and I am really hoping this challenge will help me to get my meal planning back on track!:yay:

Have a great Sunday!

We'll be there for lunch and then the train due to DD1's and doconeill's soccer game at 9.

Sorry I haven't made it on.

I have read everybody's responses!

Yesterday was busy, with swimming, shopping, game night, and now I've got to get out the door in 15 minutes to go to the company golf tournament. Its an employee self-paid fun tournament, and this year I decided to give it a try. I have only ever golfed twice and the last one was 8 years ago, so I'm a little nervous that I'll look ridiculous out there, but oh well, hopefully it'll be fun.

Before I go, I said I'd post the list of missing weigh-ins on Sunday so here it is:
(but first, a reminder that this is just a reminder, and there is no pressure to weigh in, if you just want to chat on the thread, and not weigh in that is fine!)

steelpens & redwalker - I did see that you don't have enough posts to PM yet, so just send your weights in when you can! You could even send in your Sept 11 and Sept 18 weigh-ins together. I'll be posting some starting stats on Tuesday, and will just count you as excused if you haven't reported in yet.
