Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

Linda here is the link to the current COW:

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=33618001&postcount=455

The COW can be hard to find so I always post a link to the current COW in post 4 of this thread

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=33517490&postcount=4

The coaching schedule is there and the clippie, etc. I am trying to keep all the important info updated on that first page so it is easy to find.

Have fun with the COW! :goodvibes

Thanks Lisah, but just saw it, won't be doing so well on the flossing - but I'll start - lol.

How do you attach the new clippie? I am going to try to do the QOTD each day.

Wednesdays QOTD:

What are your favorite books that have to do with health & Dieting?

I have so many, you'd think I would be much healthier:rotfl:

My sister gave me " How Not to be Afraid of Your Own Life" by Susan Piver
for Christmas. It has been great in helping with anxiety.

My go to book " 30 minutes a day to a Healthier Heart" by Frederic Vagnini, its a ReadersDigest book. The best and most shocking statement from this book:
"the conventional view of fat cells as safety deposit boxes, shut up tight until your body needs extra energy - doesn't apply to viseral fat. It's active fat, that continually pumps into your bloodstream artery-clogging fatty acids converted by your liver into cholesterol"
Scary but real. This is why the BMI is so important. Mine is 31.0=Obese

Wednesdays QOTD:

What are your favorite books that have to do with health & Dieting?

Morgan Spurlock's (of supersize Me fame) Don't Eat This Book. I read a weight watchers book awhile back that was very inspiring too Myths of dieting-- something like that. That was good. I might get Jillians book if they have it at Costco cheap- I like her a lot.
Put clippie on today in honor of fall...

Hey everyone. I haven't been on because I woke up with a severe migraine Sunday and it didn't go away until Tuesday night. Only good thing is I lost 2.5 lbs and the bad thing is because I will start eating and keeping down food I am sure I will gain it back. Still I am going to try and eat healthy this week.

Congratulations everyone that lost last week and good luck to all that we lose this week.

Sarah, I hang my head in shame that your ds is better on daredevil rides than I am. ;)

QOTD: I guess I've never read any diet books other than the freebie booklets you get at WW. Maybe that's what I need for inspiration. I'm sure you'll all give me some good ideas from all your QOTD responses!

I went to a potluck breakfast yesterday morning that we threw for a nurse at work who got a promotion. I took fruit so I could be good, but I still ended up eating egg casserole, potato casserole, bagels, and coffee cake in addition to the fruit! I should really never go to any buffet type situation during my TOM! Oh well, I'll just have to keep trying to do better. Of course DD9's b-day is next Tues, so she's taking a friend to the Jonas dog event at Build a Bear Fri. night which is out of town so we'll have to eat out. Then her b-day party is Sun. and we're having Baskin Robbins cake, and I'm sure we'll do something special on her actual b-day too. I'm thinking we may do a "no buy Oct." just to keep us from eating out all month!

Thanks Lisah, but just saw it, won't be doing so well on the flossing - but I'll start - lol.

Whoops! Forgot to answer that part. ;)

for adding the logo: right click on the clippie we decide on and copy the URL. Click the User CP up in the top left hand corner of the DIS. Click on Edit Signature on the left hand side. Insert your cursor in the part of your signature you want to place the clippie. Click on the insert link button (looks like Earth with glasses (not sure if they are supposed to be glasses, lol). Paste the link in the box that pops up. click Save signature. (Thanks MelanieC whose instructions I copied!) :goodvibes

Sorry, frazzled day here. :upsidedow

Wednesdays QOTD:

I like The Beck Diet Solution. I also read Jillian's new book, and as a result I've been eating organic as much as I can easily manage -- not quite willing to make it hard, but I will buy the organic version of stuff in my regular grocery store.

Great question!

I have read as many as I could get my hands on. I take things from each book that I like and can use and keep the rest in the back of my mind.

I have just requested the new 30day Biggest Loser book (mentinoed on yesterdays show) from the extended public library share since our local network doesn't have it yet.

qotd: my favorite books are the Biggest Loser books, but they are also the only ones I've read. ;)

That inside-out eggroll sounds scrumptious! Thanks for posting.

Today I have officially changed from South Beach to WW and I am HUNGRY!! Even though I have 26 points/day. I made a bad choice on 5 points though and only got 6 bagel crips w/dip - not very satisfying I must say. Dinner will be good though, chicken strips, mashed potatoes (small portion!) and green beans yum!! I think I'm going to bake the chicken, not quite sure on that yet.

Hi there, hope I'm not too late to join this challenge!!
I am a working mother of 2 boys (was SAHM for 10 years..best thing I could've ever done!).

I've struggled with my weight since the age of 8. After much discussion, research and struggle, I was able to have lap band surgery on 1/19/09. Many may think that having weight loss surgery is the "easy way out," nothing could be further from the truth. Truth is, it takes lots of hard work, exercise, committment and will power, probably even more than any other weight loss effort I've undertaken.

I've lost nearly 50lbs since January, but have much more to go.
I would like to lose 15lbs by the end of this challenge, which will put me at the LOWEST weight I've EVER been in WDW. We leave for WDW on 12/13 and I KNOW I can do this!!!

I've never done a DIS challenge, but think it will help me immensely.

If I can help in any way, just let me know. I hope it's not too late to join this challenge!!! Thanks!

Jenn, don't worry the hunger part will get better! I was really hungry the first few days until I got things figured out. I mean like standing in the pantry eating Cheerios out of the box hungry. :rotfl:

That is one of the nice things about WW, it helps you figure out things to eat that are better for you and you don't get dinged the big points, but it takes a few days to get there. Check out the set points values foods, i.e. an apple is 1 point, a baked potato plain is 2 points. Don't be afraid to use some of your flex points while you figure things out, too. It's a process learning a new lifestyle but I know you can do it! :thumbsup2

I gotta be quick because we are heading out to swim practice in three minutes!

I read a bunch this summer, but honestly they weren't that memorable. I did read the Bob Greene one that someone else mentioned (Making the Connection) and enjoyed it. I also read one that Oprah wrote about that same time... also interesting, but not particularly memorable. I read a Weight Watchers book called "He loses, She loses" about the different mental and physical things that effect how men and women lose weight.

I read a few more, but I cannot for the life of me remember the titles. I know that one was particularly about healthy eating, not specifically losing weight... wish I could remember the title because it was probably the best of the bunch. Sorry!

Gotta run out the door again.... life is CRAZY right now................P

Thanks for the encouragement Lisa. :goodvibes lol about eating Cheerios out of the box. :rotfl2:I did eat a double portion of chicken at dinner but that ended me right at my 26 points. I didn't realize I HAVE to eat all the points every day - wow! That was an eye-opener for me.

thelionqueen - welcome! I love your name!!:flower3:

Hi, I just started this and didn't do the whole starting weight thing. Do I just post that here or what?

This is my first challenge and I am so excited! I'm 24 and have had weight issues all my life; always the chubby kid, last picked in gym class... I flip-flopped a lot within my general overweight status, and have never been too healthy as far as activities and eating go. Within the last year and a half I've even gained more. I would really like to get to my healthy weight of 135 or less, and more than that I just want to be more active. I want to one day run a half marathon or something, but that is quite a way off now.Anyway, I don't have any kids but I do live with my serious boyfriend, who has a ridiculously high metabolism, loves fast food, and is gerenally a bad influence as far as healthy choices go. Other that that, the biggest hurdle for me is work. I leave home around 6 in the morning, and usually get home 6 or later at night. By that time I am exhausted and really want convenient food.

Anyway, thanks for posting those tips from Curtis on BL last night; that was great and super helpful! Thanks again - I am so excited!

QOTD: I actually haven't read any though I would like to read the BL and some of Jillian's though I also haven't had much time to read.

Redwalker and I walked 7.5 miles at the mall today! We practically flew through the mall! I also did the 2 mile WATP this morning.

Still finishing up my water drinking for the day. I had my favorite for lunch today. It was a grilled chicken and eggplant calzone with mozzarella and pesto. It comes with a small salad so I had that for supper! It may have been too many calories so that's why I ate it at lunch. I also gave a 75 minute hot stone massage to a client tonight which was also a good workout!

Hope I see another loss tomorrow! I was down again this morning. I don't have any plans for tomorrow so I think I'll do some extra workouts.

Good luck to everyone this week.

Hey. Feel like I haven't been on in awhile. I've tried posting but it just kinda stalls and doesn't post. I can post on all the other threads and topics on the boards but not this one. Kinda strange.

Anyway, I'm still trudging. Not doing good at all. I've been eating all the crap I shouldn't and not exercising. I have been drinking at least 64 ounces of water a day though so that's a start. I finally convinced my hubby to bring my treadmill up to our bedroom so I don't have to go down to the basement by myself and I don't have to worry about the kids while I'm running and he's working. He's doing it tomorrow afternoon when he gets home from work so I can run tomorrow night.

I'm nursing a terrible sinus infection and keep trying to use it as an excuse and I need to quit. But I really do feel like crap.

Just wanted to be held accountable but let you know I'm NOT giving up. I've done this before and I WILL do it again!

You can do it, ShortyNBug! Just take it easy if you are getting over a sinus infection...

I just got back from my first run under the couch to 5k challenge. I was out of breath and working really hard, but I did it and now I feel totally awesome! Almost makes up for that McDonald's cheeseburger I had last night; I just felt gross after that one. Tomorrow I have a cardio class, so I am totally pumped! Even though it is so hard, I feel so good afterward!:yay:
