Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

I have a v-8 and some fruit. This is mostly due to complete lack of planning. I don't count calories or track food. I know this makes it harder for me but when I was anorexic as a teen it consumed my every waking moment, and at some point when the fever broke- I decided I never wanted to live like that ever again. I am pretty conscious of what I eat and still basically know the calories of everything just like I know every word to a Beatle song I haven't heard in 10 years if I hear it. If I'm home I'll just eat a little snack- usually some kind of leftover and it's kind of an afterthought because I like a good dinner.

The rest of this, though - I hear you on the solidness especially around the waist. It's not fun and it's not healthy and it's my private enemy #1 as well. ;) That being said, though, I am concerned about anyone talking about starving to lose weight! Undereating is not a healthy way to lose and increases the likelihood that you will not want to stick with the plan long-term. The most important thing for losing significant weight is not how large a number you can drop in a week, it is how livable the program is so you can keep it up in the long term.

Corinna - thanks for the support!
Last year in my pre-Disney struggle to lose weight I followed the South Beach Healthy Heart Diet. I felt like I was starving all day long (probably not) but I seemed to have the motivation to do it!
The joke about law enforcement eating donuts? Well you get so bored driving around and, if you're trying to control your eating, it becomes a battle of wills between you and your stomach :rotfl:

Add to that the sitting on your backside for hours and ............. I know these are excuses. I've been overweight since I was 13 and struggled with eating. My mom strickly followed the "eat everything on your plate or else" plan - I can remember falling alseep at the dinner table after everyone else had left. Now I hate, hate all vegetables-tough for a vegetarian.
There are some great :thumbsup2 ideas for snacks and meals here and I am following the posts everyday with much appreciation to all.Thank you for thinking of me.

Sunday's QOTD:
Besides Disney where is someplace that you would like to vacation at?

Europe and Alaska. I don't think DH will go for Alaska but he loves Europe, travels there extensively for work. We had the option to move to the UK for his job but, surprise! DD came along instead. Now that his new company might be acquired by the old one, we may have the opportunity to move again. Then we can travel through Europe a lot. And the kids want to live there. DS13 wants to live in Norway, DS8 wants to live in either Belgium or France, and DS7 wants to live in Japan(odd man out)

]Monday's QOTD:
What are some of your go-to lunchs that you fix at home or take to work when your rushed for time and don't have leftovers or something to pull out quickly?
[/B]

subway and Wendy. I know not the best choices but that's what's near by.

Good morning fellow losers.
It's been great to read everyone's bkfst and lunch ideas. I had a busy weekend, and have been trying to stay off the computer, and do some work around the house. I need to balance my checkbook and pay the bills this morning before work. I've stayed within my ww points but used up a bunch on the weekend on apple cider donuts. I planned on having one, but foolishly bought 6, for my son you know,:confused3 so I ate 3. Duh. It is amazing how quickly I can forget at times and fall into old habits. Sunday had a birthday party, and had a tiny piece of cake and one piece of pizza, so that was good. The wii fit has been helping me keep moving.

I'll catch up on the qotd. My go-to bkfst is egg beaters in the microwave, with salsa on toast, or with ham and lf cheese on english muffin. Most mornings I have a banana too.

Lunch- ww frozen meal, or sandwich- I love the thin and trim cold cuts, or egg salad with low fat mayo. Usually fruit with lunch too, and as a sweet the cozy shack tapioca pudding cup.

I'd love to go back to Ireland. I've been twice, but can't wait to take my son. He'll love to see the castles, and the cliffs of moher. The Grand Canyon is also on my list.

Hope you all have a great day. Off to pay the bills.

Wow - thanks everyone for your responses on how you were working towards your goal. It is great to see such diversity, and to see that different things work for different people.

I've been on this life-change journey since the beginning of the year, and am down just over 40 pounds, so I know what I'm doing is working for me. My biggest thing is to not deny myself a particular food - I will just want it even more, and then it's a slippery slope to failure for me. So with calorie counting (and WW), I know I can have it but that I need to adjust for it somewhere else (more exercise or less of some other food).

My thought with asking was that maybe seeing what others were doing might help someone who is just starting out.

Is it too late to join?

:welcome:

Just wanted to let everybody know that I'll be getting the results post up later today. Not sure if it'll be done during morning break or lunch break, but I know it'll be finished at some point today! :goodvibes

Good Morning All,

I have been absent from the boards for a few days because my Grandpa passed away. With all the funeral planning and family drama, ther hasn't been a time to check in. But, I decided for my sanity's sake, I needed to check in this morning. Reading all your posts has really lifted my spirits! The funreal is tomorrow, so right now I am just trying to get through. One challenge I am facing is all the food people are bringing over. It is very sweet of them, but it is hard not to snack on it while I am dealing with everything. Sorry to vent, just needed to get it out.

Thanks for listening!
Molly :)

P.S. How do I add the Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge logo to my signiture? I am not the most technically inclined. :)

I ussually keep a few lean cuisines or smart ones on hand. It is quick simple and already portion controled.

Didn't get to the gym this morning. Not like me but I turned the alarm off an rolled over. My throat is scratchy. Here's hoping the Biggest Loser tonight injects that energy into me.

I started doing this so I could have the fries too :)

Food - I find this to be so true. If you are really craving chocolate cake or pizza, carrots just aren't going to cut it. You are beter of having a SMALL slice of cake or a piece (or two) of pizza. You can only trick your brain so much, it knows the difference between pizza and carrots.

Exercise - for me this is the glue. When I don't exercise everything seems to fall apart.

I so agree about having what you want in smaller portions. I need to work on the exercise part.

 That makes sense then! I like the apple fries, no caramel, so I'd rather have the bun! :) It's all about choices, isn't it? We can eat anything we want, we just can't eat EVERYTHING we want!

That is an excellent way to look at it :)

I would love to share my spreadsheet but i am not sure how to do it... :confused3

Candice

Hmm - I'm thinking you would have to e-mail it since its an excel file.

I think a lot of us probably grew up in the "clean your plate" type households. I'm sure its some of the reason many of us don't know how to stop when we are full. I never make my kids eat everything. I let them decide when they are full. I hope it makes a difference for them someday!

Tell your Mom we miss her :)

That is cool that your kids want to move. My kids wouldn't even allow us to move across town, lol!

Paste the link in the box that pops up. click Save signature.

Cinderella Girl -
I'm very sorry to hear about your grandfather.
I'm glad that you can check in for support. Let us know how you are doing.

Happy Autumn to everyone (well in a few hours anyway).

Tuesday's QOTD:
What is your favorite season and why?

I like Spring and Fall because of the colors and the newness of each of the seasons. In the spring your ready for the warmer days and color of the flowers. In the Fall your ready for cooler days and the color of the trees and everything that Autumn brings along with it.

Tuesday's QOTD:
What is your favorite season and why?

Mine would be Fall. I love the cooler weather when I can wear jeans and a sweatshirt or long sleeve t-shirt and be comfortable, the beautiful fall colors, and, after that first overnight freeze, the lack of allergies :rotfl: It's a double-edged sword, though...Fall means winter is coming, along with a month of guaranteed sub-zero temps and icy roads. I despise winter in Minnesota.

I did not break out the wii fit like I intended this morning. I don't feel too bad about it though, I've been cleaning the garage and scrubbing down outdoor toys for a garage sale this weekend. I've gotten quite the upper body workout doing that.

Have a great day everyone!

Tuesday's QOTD:
What is your favorite season and why?

I love the summer. I love the warm, sunny, long days. We have lots of rainy and cool days here so the warm ones are really appreciated!

I'm happy today because I am wearing a new pair of jeans and they are a size smaller than what I've worn for the last ten years or so! :cool1: And they aren't even pinchy or uncomfortable! ;)

Tuesday's QOTD:
What is your favorite season and why?

Summer! It just seems like there is so much more time in the day, I can't explain why, maybe the later sunlight hours. We love boating and summer days are the best! 4th of July is my favorite holiday too!

Fall was always my fav season until we moved to the country. Now, I think it has to be spring!
Last winter, our first out here, was pretty harsh. Endless snowstorms, gale force winds and the long commute. We've already begun to talk about this winter drives coming up!
The spring was just so welcome. The sunrises, the birds and especially the farmers getting ready. We remembered the reason we wanted to move here:cloud9:

Sunday's QOTD:

Besides Disney where is someplace that you would like to vacation at?

What a loaded question for me! My immediate response is Europe (Spain, Italy, Paris, Swiss/Austrian Alps). But I wouldn't turn down a trip to Australia, Japan, Hawaii, or almost anywhere in the US! I just like to travel and see new areas. In my next life I am going to be Samantha Brown (from the Travel Channel).

Monday's QOTD:

What are some of your go-to lunchs that you fix at home or take to work when your rushed for time and don't have leftovers or something to pull out quickly?

Cottage cheese and pineapple and a few crackers or cold cereal and milk and fruit or prepackaged salad mix and a wedge of LC cheese and a package of Special K crackers (today's lunch in fact). I try to have fruit and/or veggies, a lowfat whole grain carb, and some protein, preferrably dairy protein, at lunch most days. I always have baby carrots, LC (Laughing Cow) cheese, melba toast or Special K crackers, and fresh fruit available to grab. It certainly makes life easier. But I also plan leftovers many nights so that there is something to grab the next day.

Sorry I haven't been around much.... life is crazy busy with work/school, running the kids to their activities and games and such. But I did manage to watch DWTS last night (HUGE Donny Osmond fan) and that was a treat. I may or may not end up with the time to watch tonight's BL episode, but I record it so I will see it eventually...................P

Fall is my favorite time of year here. It's always warmer and drier than summer. Plus now that my DD is getting old enough to really get the holidays and is in preschool, it's so much fun getting to participate in everything.

I caught a nasty stomach flu at a family party this weekend. Three of us spent our Sunday evening...rather uncomfortable let's just say. The good news is I'm down four pounds in just two days but it's not a weight loss plan I can recommend! Hopefully I can at least keep the weight off so I don't see a large gain in next week's weigh in.

Regarding weight loss, I found a few things that really work for me. Being aware of them is the tricky part as I am a muncher who eats without realizing something is in front of me.

First, it is a lot easier to consume calories than it is to burn them. I need to run a mile to burn off a 100-calorie snack pack. I need to keep this in mind when I have a really good workout and burn 300-500 calories and feel entitled to treat myself to something. I have found that exercise is really helpful but the key is keeping calories in check.

When I am eating something bad, I try (read this try) to remember that a small piece of <insert guilty pleasure here> tastes just as good as a large piece. Take smaller bites if you need to. If it takes you 15 bites to eat a large piece of pizza, take 15 smaller bites to finish a half slice and chew slower. Be sure to have something else like veggies to fill up on so you aren't tempted to have more of what you are trying to cut down on.

I also found it really helpful to never eat while I'm doing something. If I'm goign to eat, stop what I'm doing and just eat. Whenever I grab something while I DIS or watch TV or do a chore, I honestly don't even realize I'm eating and don't get the content feeling.

Another thing I found for me which I know goes against a lot of diet plans is to not snack. I may feel better between meals but I find that no matter if I've had a snack or not, I still eat the same quantity at mealtime. All I'm doing is taking in more calories and by the end of my meal, I feel the same. If I really do need to eat something, I should try to cut something from my meal but then I feel cheated and not as content.

Finally, something I recently discovered that helps me is that when I have the urge for something, I think to myself, will this really make me feel better? Is this what I really want? If the answer is yes and I eat it, immediately ask myself how I feel. Did it help? Am I truly content? The answer has so far has always been no. I try to keep this in mind the next time the urge comes up and it has really helps me to avoid snacking.

Anyway, I hope you can find something here that helps you. I'm still struggling through this on a daily basis but I find I get the best results when I am mindful of what I'm doing.

-steve
