Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

Besides Disney where is someplace that you would like to vacation at?

DH and I were just talking about this. For me, my dream vacation would be to the eastern Mediterranean, Italy, Greece and Croatia.

I've been getting my walks in on MWF, but I did sign up for an ice skating lap fitness class that starts on Friday. I've never done anything like this, so it should be interesting.

Good morning everyone! I hope you all have a great day!

Today's QOTD: I really want to go to Australia and New Zealand one of these days!

Sunday's QOTD - travel...

I'd like to explore California. There is so much variety. I have Soarin' to thank for this goal!

Hey everyone - I'm feeling better this evening. I haven't been feeling too well today either. Unfortunately it's not making me want to "not eat". Darn!!

Sunday's QOTD:

Besides Disney where is someplace that you would like to vacation at?

It is hard to think of a vacation besides Disney but I would have to say London and Paris (is my answer disqualified because, of course, I would go to DL Paris if I was there already?!?)

It is fantastic that this board is so active - it's great to catch up in the mornings!

I was wondering, though, what everyone is doing to achieve their weight loss? Are there a lot of Weight Watchers on the board? What are other things people are doing?

I'm just straight up calorie counting - I found WW required too much thought on my part to figure out the points values for things, so I've been using www.livestrong.com/dailyplate to track my calorie consumption and exercise.

January, if you are doing calorie counting you might want to check out Sparkpeople.com. They have calorie counting and a suggested menu to follow for your suggested caloric intake. I'm doing weightwatchers because that seems to work for me but I do check out sparkpeople because I think they do a good job of helping you to maximize what you can eat.

I'd like to know what DisCanCan is doing because she lost 6 pounds this week! Woo! Hoo!

Saturday QOTD:
What are your favorite go to breakfasts while losing weight or maintaining?

I like to have either oatmeal or cream of wheat with an apple or banana. Then mid-morning I'll have Kashi TLC bar -- that gets me to 5 WW pts for breakfast, which is big for me. I used to have 1 pt, and I found myself eating way too much at night. This helps me keep more balance in my eating throughout the day.

Sunday's QOTD:

We love to cruise, particularly to Bermuda. If I were picking somewhere we've all never been, I'd say New York City for a family trip, and San Francisco for a romantic getaway.

I had another one of those crazy weekends, and I'm backed up on my workouts -- I'll be doing doubletime until Wednesday, but I'm sure that's actually good for the weight loss!

I have always wanted to visit the New England area and eventually visit Italy!!!!

I hope you all have a great week!! I'm 4 short days away from Disney!! I'm so excited!! I bought clothes specifically for Disney in mind a couple of months ago and they were all a bit too tight! I tried them on last night and they fit perfectly WOOT!! I was so excited I couldn't believe! I can't wait to be styling my way around Disney LOL!!!

I would like to start off by saying thank you to all who maintain and post on this thread. It's finally giving me the boost I need to shed some of the weight I've been carrying around for the past 17 years!!! I also love the QOTD, it's giving me motivation every single day.

Okay now to catch up on QOTD's

QOTD(Saturday) - What are your favorite go to breakfasts while losing weight and maintaining? Here lately it's been one scrambled egg (scrambled in the microwave) on a piece of toast. I'm typically running late every morning and this is quick and easy.

QOTD (Sunday) - Besides Disney where is some place you would like to vacation at? Europe, Paris in particular, and New York City. There are many, many more but those top my list.

Jen, where are you staying? We are pulling into AKL on Thursday night, staying through Sunday and doing HS on Friday. Maybe we will run into each other. Maybe one of us will be trailing the other to keep tabs on our weight loss journey, well as much as you can being at Disney:laughing:. Just kidding ya:upsidedow! Enjoy your trip!

January, if you have an iPhone or an iTouch there is a free app called "Lose It" and it does all that too, calorie intake, calories burned, goals and it can be customized for other things too. I have been using it for over a week and I really like it so far. We also do Nutrisystem about 75% of the time, I like the convenience of the pre-packaged foods.

I will be staying at SSR Friday through Sunday Oct 4th!!!! All I know is that I'm packing my workout DVDs and am going to make use of the gym in the mornings!! Working out in the morning gives me so much more energy!!

Good morning everyone -Yes it's afternoon, lol - but I've been so busy at work after leaving sick on Friday that I haven't had a moment to get online.

I've only got a minute or two before I have to head to a staff meeting that I'm running so I have to leave soon to set up my laptop and the slides. Sorry this will be short.

Monday's QOTD:

What are some of your go-to lunchs that you fix at home or take to work when your rushed for time and don't have leftovers or something to pull out quickly?

For me:
Ezekiel bread, almond butter and a banana - (my version of a peanut butter and banana sandwich)

Make a quick batch of hummus and throw on an ezkiel tortilla by itself or with veggies (especially good with cucumber and tomatoes)

black beans or refried beans, salsa on an ezekiel tortilla

omlet with goat cheese - can add veggies

I was wondering, though, what everyone is doing to achieve their weight loss? Are there a lot of Weight Watchers on the board? What are other things people are doing?

The core of my "plan" is exercise & calorie counting. I keep my calories in the 1200 - 1500 range. I exercise twice a day (most days). A 30 minute dog walk that is just under 2 miles Then in the evening I do 3 - 5 miles of In Home Walking (WATP/Leslie Sansone). I am committing myself to also doing weight training 3 days per week. The weight training is not something that I like, so I am going to have to push myself to do it.

JanuaryF: I've been successful with WW online and exercising at home. I've noticed that when I quit tracking everything as I eat it, that I do the best.

Monday's QOTD:

What are some of your go-to lunchs that you fix at home or take to work when your rushed for time and don't have leftovers or something to pull out quickly?

If I don't have leftover or frozen meals, then I will just grab a peanut butter sandwich and a container of veggies (raw fresh ones, or even just throw some frozen veggies into a container for microwaving), fresh fruit, cheese-string (that covers snacks and lunch).

Today I'm trying a new frozen lunch. Its only 5 pt for WW :cool1: and its high in fibre (5g), total 260cal and looks good. Its a Healthy Choice Gourmet Steamers. I decided to try the Grilled Chicken Red Pepper Alfredo (has lots of broccoli). The dish it comes in has the sauce in the bottom, and then the rest sitting in a steamer tray. Hopefully it tastes good. Has anybody else tried these ones?

Monday's QOTD:

This sounds crazy but I drive 10 hours a day so I can't always cook something and food doesn't always keep in the truck (in the warm weather)
I "drink" soups that come in Tetra boxes like Campbells or Gardennay. Usually they are fairly low in calories, high in fibre and vitamins. It's just easier to cut them open and drink right out of the carton! Lots of them are good cold or at room temperature, and they are very filling. Even the cream soups are reasonably low in fat.
They stop me from buying fast food!:littleangel:

Monday's QOTD: What are some of your go-to lunchs that you fix at home or take to work when your rushed for time and don't have leftovers or something to pull out quickly?

My favorite is a salad, w/ff feta cheese, turkey breast, garbanzo beans, corn, black beans, ff croutons and homemade oil/vinagar/spices/honey dressing.

I ususally pick up several Smart Ones entrees and yogurt at the beginning of the week and keep them stashed in the fridge at work. That way lunch is taken care of all week. I have some Kashi bars and Miso soup mix, too, just in case I don't get to the store so I don't go out for fast food in my desperation if it's a busy day.

Oh, and Melanie, since you brought up your hummus recipe, could you please share it with us again? :goodvibes

I'm going to have to look for that Ezekiel stuff because I hear you all talking about it all the time. :rotfl:

I hope that your week flies by and that you have a great time! :cool1: I will be interested to hear about the Halloween decorations.

Good job! You can do this! :cheer2:

Are you staying AKL or AKV? Have a great time!

Have a great OP day all!

Hmm. I usually have hummus and veggies for lunch, with a yogurt and some chips if I'm feeling the need for "crunchies".

Has anybody else tried these ones?

I tried to Orange Chicken. I thought it was good...a little too orange for my taste. I also thought they could have cut the rice portion in half and gone with some more veggies & chicken.

I like to do Salad a lot. A HUGE bowl of greens w/ 2TBS low-fat Blue Cheese dressing & 1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese...all for 180 calories.

In the winter I like a bowl of Veggie Soup.

When I can't go home for lunch I have a few frozen lean pockets in the freezer.

I love the Amy's bean burritos - my favorite is the non-dairy one. I like to put a bunch of lettuce, tomato, green pepper and green onion along with half an ounce of 2% cheese or 1/3 cup 1% cottage cheese and SALSA. It's like a burrito salad!

Is it bad of me to list fast food that works for me? I'm going to anyhow....

If I'm out in the world and need to have a quick meal, my favorite is Subway's 6" veggie patty on whole wheat with no cheese, adding everything but onions and spicy mustard for sauce, Mmmm. Their sliced apples are also tasty.

Not as good, but still will do in a pinch - BK Veggie, no mayo with apple slices.

January I am another Weight Watcher, online only. I like that they weird system encourages more consumption of fiber filled foods and makes it easier for me to tally things up in my head - smaller numbers than calories and all. I had been on it a number of years ago and finally it clicked for me that when I follow the plan, I lose. When I think I can manage on my own, I just don't do so well. I do not like the meetings and supervised weigh ins, but I find the support and accountability here on this very thread fills that gap brilliantly for me. I also run 3-4 days a week and do cross training on 2-3 of the other days. I also take some pointers from Tosca Reno's Eat Clean Diet. It's a multi-pronged approach for me - I take what works for me from each of the resources. I'm so glad you've found something that works for you as well!

Maria - cruising in the Bahamas sounds very nice right now! Good luck with your catch-up work-outs. It can be so tough when the schedule is thrown off, I know!

HallsInTheKingdom - thanks for the heads-up on the iPhone app! I've passed it on to my DH! He loves technology but doesn't love food journaling.

Mullysisters - what a great solution! I never would have thought of it, but it sounds like it is working for you!

I've noticed that when I quit tracking everything as I eat it, that I do the best.

Luvbaloo do you mean that you do the best when you don't track? Or is this a typo and you do better when you DO track?

I didn't do very well today eating wise, and my sister was celebrating her horse riding achievements (at 53 and a beginner, she's amazing) so, of course, we had to have drinks tonight. I feel so-o-o-o solid - especially around my waist. I'm going to have to starve to lose any weight.

I keep thinking about this post even though it was a few pages back, I just keep forgetting to include it in my posts! So here it is, a special post just for this thought.

First, congratulations to your sister! She must be so proud of her accomplishments!

The rest of this, though - I hear you on the solidness especially around the waist. It's not fun and it's not healthy and it's my private enemy #1 as well. ;) That being said, though, I am concerned about anyone talking about starving to lose weight! Undereating is not a healthy way to lose and increases the likelihood that you will not want to stick with the plan long-term. The most important thing for losing significant weight is not how large a number you can drop in a week, it is how livable the program is so you can keep it up in the long term.

The thing that has helped me the most is to find delicious satisfying, healthy foods that don't break the calorie budget. Fortunately, the thread has been chock full of ideas for food the past few days. :)

Luvbaloo do you mean that you do the best when you don't track? Or is this a typo and you do better when you DO track?

Definitely a typo. I do best when I'm tracking as I go. I just don't like tracking :guilty: so I tend to stop doing it, and then start cheating.
