Biggest Loser 4 Week 9

I've been lurking but I am around. I am kind of annoyed with the scale shifting up/down and staying the same within a lb all the time, so I have decided to report a final weigh in when we end this version during the season finale of BL.

Congrats to all who have lost and my buddy who is doing so well.

Hang in there Cobbler. Are you already smaller Ie. not that much to lose? I'm thinking yes. Is there some change in inches cobbler? Regardless, I'm hearing your frustration and wish you the best.

Lisa (and everyone else too ;) ) -
It's funny that you mention not tracking things. I have in the past tried to "watch" what I eat and exercise. Last summer I spent like 24 days out of 31 in the gym exercising but didn't watch what was going in my mouth and lost like 3 pounds. This time around - well I'm not exercising yet - but in just under two months I have lost 21 pounds. The difference? For me it's not killing myself. I am doing weightwatchers and I do not think of it as a diet. I am changing my life to be healthier. I need the points to re-educate myself and put a "value" on what's going in my body. For example - DH went and got donuts Sunday morning - initially I was going to get one too - but after looking over points values I decided it just wasn't worth it to me. However I did have a Betty Crocker chocolate & caramel cake mini AND chocolate pudding over the weekend (Sugar Free COOKED - I just do not like instant pudding :rotfl: ) I'm eating what I want - we are still eating out some and I'm enjoying what I'm eating. I just need the reinforcement of how many calories, etc something is and the points system works awesome for me.

That's what the tracking does for me too! I see it as teaching myself what a real portion looks like and how different choices affect my daily totals. I don't see it as a permanent part of my life, but one that is part of the learning curve of healthier eating. By the time I make my goal, I hope to have learned what I need to know about portions and my different choices to be able to maintain without tracking constantly. At that point, I may choose to track a week here and there to check up on myself, but it won't be an everyday thing forever.

Is there a recliner on the front? If so, my sister got that book last year and really enjoyed it. It provided just enough humor along with the insight to keep her motivated.

Good luck with your lion this week.

Good morning everyone! Sorry to have missed out on the posting extravaganza yesterday. You guys really captured some of my frustrations and struggles. Like some of you, I need to find ways to keep the treats in there. For example, Girl Scout cookies came in this week. Well, I don't want to do without my Thin Mints! However, am I eating half a roll in one sitting and hoarding 5 boxes? Not this year! I have my one box, which DD also is sharing. I eat 2 cookies 1-2 times a day depending on how my calories are looking 2 cookies is only 75 calories and I can spare that for a treat. My life will not exist forever without chocolate. So instead, I have to learn moderation and small portions. Already, I'm seeing success in that a whole candy bar is too much. I am happy with a couple of mini bars or a few kisses.

As for the lifestyle changes, I think that my key this time has been exercise. In previous "diets" (and that's what they were then, diets that I was using for a goal and then discarding, often before I could reach the goal because I just wasn't happy with the limitations), I have focused just on food and never worked to increase my activity. Now, I am really working to make exercise an integral part of my day. That's the number one thing that I want to keep with me through it all. Portion control - yes, healthy eating - yes, but I want to exercise regularly always. That way, when I do hit my goal, I will (hopefully) find it easier to maintain.

I PMed my weight in yesterday, but didn't have a chance to post. However, I was down 3lbs this week!!! The best part is that I made it to one-derland! I made it and that's where I intend to stay! I was having doubts toward the end as TOM decided to make an appearance a few days early and I was afraid that would throw off my weigh-in just enough that I'd miss my mini-goal, but it didn't.

Another boost came this week as well. I was logging something on Sparkpeople with DSis in the room and it prompted her to ask how I was coming on my goals. When I calculated it out, I found that I am 25% of the way there on this year's goals and 41% on those set Jan '07. Those percentages were very reaffirming for me.

Tia! I've been waiting for you to post. I noticed on the monthly thread that you are now in the 100s. I'm like, "post, post, post". Did you hear me? :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: ;)

Fantastic Tia!!!!

I'm so happy for you. Congratulations on that major milestone. And on those great percentages.

Well hello ladies. I see some are down and I want to tip my hat to you. Some are up and I want to say don't stop! You know you can lose because you already have right? I myself only lost 1 meesly stinkin pound (prob because I'm sick  ) but hey I lost! Even if I gained I would know that I lost and can lose. I would know it was those darn girlscout cookies that I may have eaten or that dumb birthday cake at work that everyone insisted I have just a small piece. Why is it when we are trying our hardest to stay on track, others come along to try and push us off the track and for some our track is just going over a bridge and we end up falling off and into the river or over the cliff?:confused3 Next time just say "if the cake is that good then you eat my piece too" and walk away! Just remember who you are doing this for, look around you. Are you doing this for your children so you can be there when they get married or put your grandchild on your knee? Are you doing it so you can be there for your husband and you two can grow old together? Are you doing it for yourself, so you can feel good inside without having to eat an entire container of ice cream to make you think it's making you feel better when in the end you know you will hate yourself for doing it. (it's a vicious circle) Just stay focused and know you will be supported here.:grouphug:

I have notice the candy thing as well. Once upon a time it was all too easy to eat a whole candy bar plus 2 or 3 more. A few weeks ago my grocery store was having a sale on Kissables, so I stocked up on the dark chocolate ones. Each bag is 190 calories, so I figured one bag a night was not a bad treat and hey dark chocolate is good for you right?!?! As it turns out, each bag is taking me 3 -4 nights to finish and some nights I don't have any. i am "allowed" to eat the whole bag, but I just don't feel like it. My vice at the moment is this cookie from my local grocery store. Everyone else thinks they are nasty, but they keep popping into my mind. They are around 200 calories each. Every so often over the last few days, the idea of having a few with a nice big glass of milk is almost overwhelming. I have to shake my head and go "bad mind, bad mind!" to try to keep the craving at bay. When i went to the grocery store on Monday, I was so relieved and yet infuriated that they were sold out. Half my mind really really wanted them and would have eaten all of them (they come in packs of 12 aka 2400 calories! before the milk). The other half was so happy they were sold out as rationally, eating them at all is bad.
Anyone else feel like they have two people in their head? I have the angel and devil and I am the hapless nitwit between them!:confused3

Thank you!! :goodvibes I was trying to get here yesterday. I just never got a chance to get back on the computer. I was working on cleaning my parents' basement (it's not a pretty site) and ended up spending more time down there than I had intended for the day.

I am only down .8 this week. I am doing WW and I think my lack of weight loss is due to me not eating all of my points. This week I want to try to eat my points every day and see what the difference will be. I also work out usually 5 days a week. My DS has been sick a lot the past 3 weeks so its been kinda hard to make it to the Y.

Good Luck to everyone this week!

I am up this week by about .4 which has me majorly bummed out but on a good note, I began using the stationary bike again. My knee feels like it is being ripped to shreds but I managed to get in almost 22 miles in 6 days. Not a lot for some of you but with my knees it is a major success.:goodvibes

Keep on biking Michelle!! :thumbsup2

I maintained this week whiich I am fine with.

Congrats to everyone, losers and everyone else!! You're still here, that's gotta count for something.

:woohoo: WAY TO GO!!!! Say hello to one-derland for me. That's a place I will never see again. (but I'm ok with that...)

That is great Kimberly. I wish I could I was as satisfied with myself...alas I need to take it easy biking until I see my ortho March 11. My ACL got damaged in that fall in January...sigh, it never ends!:confused3

My DH has trouble with his knee too. His dr said to put the seat up on the exercise bike as high as you can and still reach the petals. He said it did help him. Give it a try and see if it helps you.

The weekly Official announcement is late. I spent quality time with DH tonight and when I started tabulating the numbers did not look pretty so I will sleep on it and hopefully I will be able to sort out everything tomorrow.

Look for the announcement late Thursday morning. Pay attention to this one. It is surprising and YOU may be a superstar!

If you have not reported your weekly weight to me Please DO IT RIGHT NOW! I am currently looking at 19 not reporting and 7 drop outs. That is a lot of losers.

Have a healthy day!

Thanks for the suggestion, I have it up high but may put a towel or something on the seat as well. Brenday thanks for all that you do with this. The thought of working with numbers like this boggles me brain!:goodvibes Have a good day all, we CAN do it!:cheer2:

Hear Ye, Hear Ye, the Weight Keeper speaks

We started the week with 62 participants. 7 folks have not checked in for three weeks and have been dropped from the challenge. Of course they will be welcomed with open arms if they decide to make a report to me in the future. 2 new participants have joined us this week.

:welcome: to cats7494 - ??? and praline3001 - Brook that have joined us this week.

We are now at 57 current participants. 19 people did not check in for the week. That is 1/3 of our participants. 5 of them have missed 2 weeks, 14 have missed one week. One newbie will report their first weight change next week.

37 participants weighed in this week. We had 12 gains (almost 1/3 of us GAINED for the week), 8 maintains (that means that 54% of us did NOT lose weight this week), and 17 losses. Only 17 losses this week. That makes the odds of getting into the top ten very good. I should have a number for that since I took statistics but well sorry guys, does anyone even care about any of this stuff anyway?

Now let's look at our cumulative new loss. When folks drop out their losses are subtracted from the total. We had some pretty big losers drop out this week. We lost a 15 pound loss and three 8 pound losses that dropped out. So this week the addition of those pounds really hurt our cumulative loss. This week our 17 losers lost 26.9 pounds and our 12 gains were 11.3 pounds. Losses ranged from .2 pounds to 3.6 pounds and our gains ranged from .2 to 3 pounds. Our net loss for the week was 15.6 pounds and our cumulative net loss is now 411.1 pounds.

Now to the important part - (drum roll and fanfare please)

Congratulations to all our superstars. I sure picked the right week to finally get back in the game. It has been a longlonglong time since I have been a superstar. Hey you could be a superstar next week.

This has been a monumental week for two superstars that have arrived in one-derland this week. Yes they now weigh in the 100s. What a one-derful accomplishment. Since we started our challenge one other person has arrived and I see at least 6 other people that could possibly get there by the end of our challenge. I know you can do it ladies!

I am already thinking about my big list to be published after week 10. In addition to our top losers it will name our perfect attendance superstars and those that have not gained at all during our challenge (I hope we still have some of those after 10 weeks).

I'm sorry I can't name everyone a superstar every week. Just by sticking with this challenge and trying to develop healthy habits you are superstars to me. As a group we seem to have had a difficult week. How was your week? Will this week be better? What are your plans to improve things this week? What are you doing to become a superstar?

So my fellow losers keep working your plan. If your plan isn't working then rework the plan. East less, move more. Find something that works for you and stick with it and try your hardest. With hard work we can all be losers and reach our weight loss goals.

Have a healthy day!

Congrats to all the top 10.

Brenda- we all appreciate the work you are doing- this seems very time consuming. Thanks so much.

I am so frustrated right now- I was really good all week.- except for my Red Losbter night. I am logging everything I eat on spark people and staying under my calories. I work out like a crazy person and I lost nothing...... It so hard to stay away from the goodies right now. I am gald all of you are here. Cause reading all this helps.

Congrats again and good luck to the rest of us.
