hey losers...i owe everyone an apology.... RL got in my way last night and i didn't make it back to post our first challenge......please accept my apologies...and without further ado:

CHALLENGE NUMBER ONE!

For this first challenge each of us will be called to evaluate and meditate on what it is or isn’t that they are putting in their mouths. Food is fuel and we as big losers need quality energy to burn body fat during our workouts.

Here is how it works; below you see a list of ‘tasks’. For the next 7 days you are challenged to complete as many ‘tasks’ as you can. During the 7 days of the challenge, keep record of a completed tasks and at the end of the week turn in your final total score.

This challenge is on your honor system, be accurate and honest with the points you award yourself. After all, if you cheat you are only cheating yourself from forming healthy eating habits. :goodvibes

TASKS:
  1. Drink eight glasses of at least 8 oz of water each day -- 5 pts for each day you consume 64 ozs of water -- max 35 pts

  2. Try two new fruits, vegetables or combination of either this week (new is one you have never tasted before) -- 5 pts for each set of 2 new-to-you fruit/veggie -- max 15 pts total for this task

  3. Instead of snacking -- spend 20 mins engaged in a hobby or interest -- 5 pts for each conscious decision to get busy and skip that snack you are contemplating  -- max 20 pts for this task

  4. Eat a healthy breakfast every day instead of skipping this meal -- 5 pts for each day you eat a healthy breakfast -- max 35 pts

  5. No eating of fast-food -- salads and Subway excluded -- 25 pts for the week for avoiding fast-food meals with the exception of salads/Subway
Suggestion – print out the task list and keep it hand to mark off each time you complete one for easy and accurate record

GOOD LUCK AND Bon Appétit!

Challenges are meant to be inspiring and motivational; however it is not mandatory to participate. You are welcome to participate at any level you choose, whether it's challenging yourself to finish one task, or all of them...pick a level that is right for you :thumbsup2

This challenge begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday January 11 and concludes at midnight Thursday January 17. Total your points and PM or email to PRINCESS VIJA no later than 12 p.m. (EST) on Friday January 18. post any questions you may have and myself or a co-captain will answer you

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: I love this challenge! thanks! Wow! hobby! Maybe I'll actually dig into that pile of scrapbooking stuff I have had sitting around for the past few years!

Questions of the Day

What have you gotten lately that is just for you? If we are nice to ourselves then how can we nice to other people.

I got a trip to the movies by myself on the 1st. Dh stayed home with dd and I gpot to go see PS I Love You. It was a wonderfully relaxing morning and I was good and didn't eat any popcorn to boot! Just a diet coke, a quiet theater and time tp myself. :cloud9:

Hmmmm....... my DH bought me a pretty silver necklace for Hannukah this year.
As for me getting myself something... I used to always buy myself presents - for my birthday, Hanukkah, etc. but I haven't been doing that lately. Money's been a little tighter because DH missed so much work this fall from 2 surgeries. Now, things are getting better, and it's time for me to buy myself a treat. We were talking earlier this week about DDR for the Wii and I think I'm going to buy that for me for exercise (of course, the 2 DS can play with it too).

:thumbsup2 Looks like a great challenge. Thanks!

QOTD: What have I done to treat myself? I got a shiny new scale (expensive and accurate) and a shiny new pedometer (also expensive and accurate). Scale is less frustrating than the broken old one. Pedometer has kept me quantifiably more active.

Regarding this week's challenge, do you have something in mind as to what elements are required for a meal to be "breakfast"? I usually eat my first meal around 9:30 or 10. So not "first thing when I get up" but not "nothing until lunch" either.

I choose to interpret "skip snacking" as "skip mindless eat-because-I'm-bored snacking" rather than "don't eat between-meal snacks."

Looking forward to finding some new fruits & veggies!

Great Challenge.....

I am looking forward to grocery shopping for some new fruits and veggies... Anyone have any suggestions for some new ones to try. I have been living on the basics for a while now and could certainly use a shake up...

Great question... I have been enjoying salads a lot lately and have been putting new veggies in them to add the vegtable quantity...like pea pods...bean sprouts...edamame...variety of types of tomatoes....it is amazing to actually taste the difference in the tomato styles.

Alsp try spanish banannas...

spray Pam on a pan...fry eggplant w/ pepper and a little salt and then sprinkle with fresh Parmesean Reggiano...Awesome...

I also have been trying the frozen line of Bocca soy protein Chicken Patties...brauts etc...that is way more protein and way less carbs and fat then reg. equivalent and they are great!!! Honest...even my daughter tried the spicy chicken pattie and loved it. Had it on a piece of whole grain bread w/ a tsp. of mayo on the bread w/ a little seasoned salt and it was filling and 1/2 the fat and calories.

Hope this helps someone!

Well my birthday was on Sunday (the 6th) so I ended up with some money. I bought myself a new pair of running shoes, a pedometer(spelling?), and a waist slimmer. I also have bought myself some new meals and snacks

Great challenge! Really good reminders of some of the good health habits we should be working on and shooting for daily.

For the QOTD -
What have you gotten lately that is just for you?

I recently bought myself a few new sweaters and a new pair of jeans. I have been putting off clothes shopping for a while until I lose the weight I want to lose. In the meantime, everytime I go to get dressed I feel like cr@p because I don't like what I'm wearing and how it looks. I decided to just bite the bullet and buy a few things that would make me feel good. Why wait any longer!? I want to feel better about myself NOW. :thumbsup2 Besides, the sweaters will still fit when I drop the weight...the jeans....well, I'll be perfectly happy buying a smaller size!!!!

allyphoe -- i would say ::yes:: and ::yes:: I hate to put a legal definition on 'breakfast' but i would have no problem with your interpretation. same for the snacks, this is my struggle so i figure we all do :rotfl2: mindless snacking....if your healthy eating plan incorporates healthy food planned as a snack, that is different and in no way would we want you to skip your carrot sticks or the like! :thumbsup2

Anyone have any suggestions for some new ones to try.

for BL 3 i discovered i really like figs!! i don't know if you can get them this time of the year, but i love them in my salads. and mango...i love mango.

QOTD -- i am truly blessed and got lots of goodies for my scrapbooking hobby for christmas....other than that soon i will be purchasing a plane ticket for a June girls trip to vegas! :woohoo: the second part i'm a little :confused3 on..are you saying if we already treat ourselves like the princess we think we are, how could we share the love?

For my healthy addition I am going to try pomegranate. I have had pomegranate seeds at a party, but it will be a new purchase for me. I think I will seed one each morning and keep it nearby for a quick snack.

If you've never had pom seeds, they are about the size of corn kernels and a very tart and kind of juicy snack. Definitely worth a whirl!

ohMom I think in order for you to give love you first have to love yourself. YOu would do a much better job of it if you love yourself first. We as women mostly give love and and sometimes are under appreciated by those we love. If we don't love ourselves who will.

I hope I explained it okay. ANyone else want to chime in here.

QOTD - This one is easy. I just bought (& they came yesterday!!!) DAISY wheels for my car!!! I drive an orange convertible Beetle & these wheels are white daisies with yellow centers. Now I just need time to go tire shopping & get them put on!!

I would love to see a picture .. its sounds soooo cute.

Great challenge ohMom, it's amazing just what drinking 64oz of water will do for you while your dieting. I always seem to feel less hungry when I am full on water.

I will check out all of the fruits and veges at the store but I'm pretty sure I've tried everything at least once. If I don't find anything could I maybe choose something I haven't had in a while?

Hi everyone,
I have been absolutely rollercoasering the past couple of days. BUT as I read the replies of the "aha" moments, I became somewhat sad. I am sitting here eating culvers, (ok ate it) and I was so sad, I avoided McDonalds, but replaced it with culvers. I am so sick and tired of being fat. I am just in tears after reading what everyone wrote, but in an odd way... reading everyone's aha moments, coupled with the challenge, it hit me.... I CAN DO THIS, and there is no time like the present! Sort of an "aha" moment from the "Aha" moments. Thank you Molli for posting the challenge. Because I had planned on eating fast food on the way home from work on Sat and Sun but now I know I will replace it with a Subway sandwhich and no chips. I need to stop eating all fast foods. plain and simple. So aside from my moment, I am proud to say that I got up and did a very fast walk today, I made it only .7 miles last night, but today I did twice that amount and went 1.4 miles. I will celebrate my small successes!

So thank you to everyone who shared their aha moments. It made a difference for me.

Questions of the Day

What have you gotten lately that is just for you? If we are nice to ourselves then how can we nice to other people.

Well, I have spent a lot of money lately on scrapbook supplies! It is in a way for my DD and me, but I have really enjoyed reliving our princess trip by scrapbooking away!

I also have bought some books that I love to read!

I got a trip to the movies by myself on the 1st. Dh stayed home with dd and I gpot to go see PS I Love You. It was a wonderfully relaxing morning and I was good and didn't eat any popcorn to boot! Just a diet coke, a quiet theater and time tp myself. :cloud9:

that sounds so nice, something I have always wanted to do, go to a movie by myself, I have just never gotten around to it. I'll put it on my to do list for 2008.

Congrats to Annette :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: That is awesome!

Congrats to the other superstars! Way to go on your hard work!:woohoo:

Oh and I wanted to add, that I plan on rockin' the challenge this week!:cool1: :thumbsup2 I am going for the max... anyone joining me?

On a sidenote, I will be the one tabulating the points for the challenge, I think I will do the same as Brenda is doing and I will post the weekly winners, but I will keep track and post the top point earners for the entire challenge as well!

So lets get out there and do something healthy for us!:yay:
