Big Thunder Roller Cosaster - how much more intense than 7 Dwarfs?

We love BTMRR. It's a lot of fun. But, it is much rougher than 7DMT.

I think showing him a video of the ride is a great idea.

I just told someone the other day that I felt like 7DMT was a little more intense than BTMRR.

I agree with this! It does seem a bit more intense. The only piece of Thunder Mtn that may be an issue for your child is the clanking when going up one of the hills. It is rather loud.

I am a ride wimp, too. I went on 7DMT 3 times on our last trip, but I will only do BTMR ONCE during any trip. I may not do either in future trips. :)

The mine ride has the break in the middle, to relax a little, but the railroad doesn't.

I think a lot of the perception/comparison between the rides depends on where you sit. The further toward the back, the "worse" the ride is going to be. Try to sit near the front/middle if you want a less thrilling ride.

I'm also a bit of a ride wimp. I actually find 7DMT to be scarier than BTMRR. There's something about the angle of the drop. But it is also way shorter. BTMRR feels long so if you aren't enjoying yourself, you're probably praying for it to be over!

A bit apples and oranges. As far as individual elements of each turn/drop/speed, etc. I'd say they're very comparable. However, 7DMT has a relatively short and smooth coaster segment so it's over fast. BTMR is much longer so you have a bunch of ride elements strung together. It's also not as smooth a ride (as you'd expect from a mine train themed coaster). But - in the grand scheme of roller coasters BTMR is a very mild coaster. Not really speedy, no inversions, no large drops. Really a bunch of small hills and turns. Definitely a good coaster to try as a beginner. If you can handle 7DMT - I'd say BTMR is the next step up in intensity. But most of that step up is simply due to it being more coaster.

I would say they're about the same "intensity" in terms of speed and size of hills, but Big Thunder is definitely louder (a lot of click-clacking on the tracks) and it's definitely not as smooth - much jerkier. That being said, if noise is not an issue, it's less intense in the front of the train than the back.

BTMRR is slightly more intense, but not by much. BTMRR acts like a classic wooden coaster, so you get some air time on hills, sliding around turns, etc. That can be a bit surprising if you've never ridden a coaster like that.

In Disney intensity terms, it's far below the Rock 'n Rollercoasters and Expedition Everests (which, in coaster park terms, are on the tame side).

The experience is much different on BOTH coasters depending on where you sit...towards the front is tamer, while towards the back is wilder. BTMRR is LOUD at the beginning, though.

BTMRR is definitely rougher and quite a bit more intense than 7DMT is even sitting in the back. 7DMT is much smoother (although still somewhat thrilling when sitting in the back)

I feel like 7DMT is very smooth and fluid. BTMRR is jerky and on top of that it is loud, especially when you are going up one of the first drops where you feel like you are inside the mountain. The mechanics cranking you up can almost feel deafening. If you can have someone test it before hand that would be my recommendation.
