My husband and I were JUST having this conversation last night! It's incredulous to us that Universal Studios can be nearly DONE with their entire new WWOHP expansion in what 6 months?? (it really seems like they just started it!) This land is HUGE and has a brand new state of the art, never been done before kind of roller coaster, an interactive train ride, PLUS tons of shops and restaurants, all with elaborately detailed decor theming...yet we are going on two years for a refurb on an old ride at Disneyland. Whaaa???
I think maybe Disney needs to be throwing some cash at the Universal workers on the sly to get them to come on over and fix the mess they made of Big Thunder! HA!![]()
If I had known so many things would be down, I wouldn't have even booked at all. I would have waited or maybe tried out WDW.

THIS is what is sad to me! There are SO many people in the same boat right now. Wishing they hadn't already forked out thousands to go when so much will be closed. It just seems so irresponsible of Disney to me for them to wait literally until the last second to be announcing all of this stuff. There is no way for people NOT to be disappointed at this point....and more seems to keep being added to the massive list each day. It's not merely an "off-season" thing anymore either. It makes me feel so bad for everyone. boo.![]()
I agree that they should give more notice. I understand last minute things happen, but from my understanding a lot of these were planned. And like you said, its not even during off season. We are going on spring break. I wasn't expecting every thing to be down. Disney is expencive and isn't exactly something my family (and a lot of others) can go to very often, so its frustrating.

Oh, trust me, this has come up already!!
In fact, according to the attraction map it is shown until at least March 31st - which could mean even longer.

I really hope this is a case of "as soon as we get everything running properly, we'll open the attraction immediately", opposed to waiting until it is approved and setting an opening date further down the road. I just hope one day it is open randomly, like a soft opening. Wouldn't it be nice if they are working on it actively and just pull down the work walls when they got it right. Yes, wouldn't it be nice... *sigh*
I am sorry but I think safety is likely one of their key motivators right now - I think waiting for it to be approved is likely a good idea.
Mouseplanet just posted that they are scheduling CM testing next month. So that is a good sign.

Disneyland Resort cast members have been notified of a chance to participate in "Test and Adjust" previews of Big Thunder Mountain starting March 7. The testing is scheduled March 7-11, and cast members can get tickets at the Team Centers starting tomorrow (February 19).
No word about openings for the public, but this is great news for those waiting for Thunder to reopen.
(Am I allowed to post links to MP here?)
