Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed.

The pot's already stirred - see earlier thread. The delay is not due to DOSH requirements.

My husband and I were JUST having this conversation last night! It's incredulous to us that Universal Studios can be nearly DONE with their entire new WWOHP expansion in what 6 months?? (it really seems like they just started it!) This land is HUGE and has a brand new state of the art, never been done before kind of roller coaster, an interactive train ride, PLUS tons of shops and restaurants, all with elaborately detailed decor theming...yet we are going on two years for a refurb on an old ride at Disneyland. Whaaa??? :confused3

I think maybe Disney needs to be throwing some cash at the Universal workers on the sly to get them to come on over and fix the mess they made of Big Thunder! HA! :rotfl:

Lol. Good idea. Maybe they can get them to fix the other rides sooner too while they are at it. If I had known so many things would be down, I wouldn't have even booked at all. I would have waited or maybe tried out WDW.

THIS is what is sad to me! There are SO many people in the same boat right now. Wishing they hadn't already forked out thousands to go when so much will be closed. It just seems so irresponsible of Disney to me for them to wait literally until the last second to be announcing all of this stuff. There is no way for people NOT to be disappointed at this point....and more seems to keep being added to the massive list each day. It's not merely an "off-season" thing anymore either. It makes me feel so bad for everyone. boo. :(

My family and I were thinking the exact same thing. It's kinda crazy! :rolleyes2

I agree that they should give more notice. I understand last minute things happen, but from my understanding a lot of these were planned. And like you said, its not even during off season. We are going on spring break. I wasn't expecting every thing to be down. Disney is expencive and isn't exactly something my family (and a lot of others) can go to very often, so its frustrating.

yea, sad.

Oh, trust me, this has come up already!! ;)

In fact, according to the attraction map it is shown until at least March 31st - which could mean even longer.

:guilty: :(

Wow, March 31st. So bummed. We're going next weekend and I was of course hoping it would be back open. I sure hope they at least get it done before Spring Break; it will be our last trip using our AP's and we won't go again until the youngest hits 40" (which will take about 2 years).

This will be the first year since 2007 that we won't be visiting Disneyland. I think the Disney execs have finally found the saturation point between ticket (and room) price increases, in relation to ride closures. We're taking that money that we normally spend - six nights at the GCH, annual passes for three, at least one very expensive meal at the Napa Rose chef's counter, etc...and going to Europe for 2 weeks.

I'm a little bit sad but we just aren't getting the same bang for our buck that we used to, so we'll just have to go have a fabulous vacation somewhere new.

Oh, and how about those SEAHAWKS!?!?!? :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Given how many times the expected opening date has changed and the conflicting information Disney has often posted, this is far from definitive. However, there is a little more reason to hope that the ride will be open on or around April 1. The March 31 date as the end of the refurbishment - seen on the map - has not changed for a couple of weeks.

For the first time, the April 1 hours are available on the calendar, and look what isn't there on that day:

(Not relevant to the ride itself, but to the image: Only "Shows" was checked on the calendar page to get it to look like above. If unchecked, "The Laughing Stock Co." still appears, and the fireworks show up!)

I honestly wouldn't get too excited about it not being on the park hours map. It wasn't on the park hours map for February, either, and was added back like a week before the refurb was scheduled to end.

So, while I am certainly hopeful that it will be up and running for April, that is a looooooooooong way away, and recent past experience has taught me that it will open when it will open, and there's no reason to get excited until the walls start coming down, because it's all just speculation until then.

I really hope this is a case of "as soon as we get everything running properly, we'll open the attraction immediately", opposed to waiting until it is approved and setting an opening date further down the road. I just hope one day it is open randomly, like a soft opening. Wouldn't it be nice if they are working on it actively and just pull down the work walls when they got it right. Yes, wouldn't it be nice... *sigh*

I am sorry but I think safety is likely one of their key motivators right now - I think waiting for it to be approved is likely a good idea.

I meant more along the lines of approving another future date further down the line...

Mouseplanet just posted that they are scheduling CM testing next month. So that is a good sign.

http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/sho...-Mountain-Railroad-scheduled-to-begin-March-7

Disneyland Resort cast members have been notified of a chance to participate in "Test and Adjust" previews of Big Thunder Mountain starting March 7. The testing is scheduled March 7-11, and cast members can get tickets at the Team Centers starting tomorrow (February 19).

No word about openings for the public, but this is great news for those waiting for Thunder to reopen.

(Am I allowed to post links to MP here?)

Ooohhhhhh that makes me hopeful it MIGHT be up for even just one of our days Mar20-25.

I was going to post that myself, since it comes from "the highly reliable source" who has never been wrong on anything I've thought important enough to repeat here. It's definitely good news. Again, and contrary to what keeps getting repeated here, the problem was never "safety" or the demands of CAL/OSHA aka DOSH. The delay has been caused by the ride control software not being able to properly synchronize the running of multiple trains with the ride's show elements. These "Test and Adjust" days mean that the imagineers are confident that they are very close to completely resolving the issue.

This could mean that Big Thunder Mountain will open to the public in mid-March. :wizard:

I'm keeping everything crossed that BTM is open in late March. My kids haven't been to DL yet but it was, by far, our family's favorite ride at WDW last summer.
