Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed.

Yeah the websites isn't always user friendly...maybe once I finish college next Spring (Web Development major) they'll hire me and let me fix it ;)

Oh ok, thanks. I was very confused as I thought it re-opened at Halloween last year.

It was suppose to be delayed. The first official date was "Winter 2014" It was then 2/14/14, then possibly earlier and now mid-March.

Except for possibly Holiday overlays, never plan a trip around an attraction coming back from refurbishment. Always plan on it being delayed.

As another Bay Area fan I'm thrilled that we booked flights to Annaheim on Super Bowl Sunday. Best way to ignore the game is to go to Disney, right?

LOL yes! I was in DCA during the NFC game. I was originally bummed that I wasn't going to be able to watch the game but after everything I've heard I'm glad I was in DCA and happy rather than watching TV and upset!

And on the subject of BTMRR: I'm just hoping it opens for our May 31 trip! We've gone on 4 trips now where it has been closed. I miss it! Though we still have plenty of fun without it!

I had a friend who is a regular park goer who said 'The minute Big Thunder comes back up Space is going to go down for its refurb' and so when I told her Space's refurb dates her response was 'Well now we know when Big Thunder is returning'. And that was before they announced the March return. So yeah I just texted her telling her she was right about that one. I'm just curious if a longer Big Thunder delay means that Space's refurb might get delayed? Since they might be interconnected.

Well I'm a semi-bitter 49ers fan and I'm upset with the NFC Championship game.

(love how this thread transformed into a Superbowl thread)

You're bitter? I'm a Cardinal's fan who watched their team go 10-5 and not make the playoffs. Go Broncos!:thumbsup2

Hmm. Maybe what we need is a local who goes to the parks a lot to keep us updated on what they see going on in the Thunder Mesa area of Frontierland. I am curious though, can anyone confirm if they still have the Big Thunder Trail (the path that stretches from the Mark Twain landing dock, over the bridge, and around the backside of Big Thunder towards the BBQ) closed off or has that reopened and the fences moved back snuggly wrapping around the attraction?

When we were there in January it was open.

Ditto. It was open over Tink weekend.

That's nice to hear at least. We wen't last August and we're rudley slammed in the face with a big wooden wall all the way across the entire front and backside of the Big Thunder area. We'll maybe take a trip on the Mark Twain when we're there and snap some photos of the progress if we can and it hasn't soft opened.

It was even open in early November 2013 when we were there.

Really? That's interesting. Because in August, they were still blocking the whole path. I guess they have just been having technical issues that keep delaying this project. That's probably why they had announced an October 31st, 2013 opening date. They probably had all the painting and re-constructing work over with by then but kept having issues with getting it running and functioning safely and correctly.

Come on soft opening... let's see a soft opening. Big money! Big money! Big money! No whammies! No whammies! No whammies! Stop!! Wait... what?? :scratchin

The path was blocked during the week days last winter and then for a short period of time over the summer.

OK, not trying to stir the pot, and I haven't read the other threads, but what the heck is taking so long? This day and age it seems like they could build a whole new ride in the time it has taken them to do this refurb!! This is our 3rd trip where this ride has been down...and it's my favorite :sad1:

I know!!! I expect so much more from the Disney corporation. I used to think of them as a premium brand. Now they're working their way down the spectrum, closer to the Knotts berry farms and six flags of the world.:confused3

Omg! :faint:
Noooooo.... Double :faint:

1/2 ;)

It's all about OSHA required safety elements. With the violations/fines they have had to pay in the past year, Disney has decided to go to the extreme to protect the safety of their workers.

I think extra precautions are worth the wait. I'd rather never ride it again then know that someone was injured because they were cutting corners to speed it up.
