Big tarp on Main Street - Is it still there?

This was the view as you approach on the ferry. That's the hat box, er uh, shop.

Thanks for showing those pics!!

Yes, from that article it appears that the ugly brown tarp goes up first and then a painted/designed scrim goes up next (at least based on past refurbs).

If this is the case, then I'll be the first to say -- good job Disney on getting the refurb accomplished in a pretty way with the scrim!

They mentioned the pretty scrim to go up on the 9th, so that would be today.:thumbsup2

Well, good thing they only do that sort of thing during slow discount seasons. Cuz I'd be pretty ticked if I paid peak prices and was met with that view....... oh .... wait..... you WERE there for peak prices. YUCK!

Another thought, maybe they are getting UPS to become a sponsor in the park ... now all they need to do is add "UPS" to the brown boxes for all their refurbs! :rotfl2:Disney can find a way to make money out of anything -- even their refurbs! ;)

Seriously? This is what you people worry about when on vacation? A tarp? Did it ever occur to some of you that perhaps the tarp is there not only to cover up the work but to also protect guests from getting hit in the head with a falling tool? Sure they can rope off the area but things don't just fall straight down. They can go to the the side, away from the roped off area then Disney has a lawsuit. Then we would see millions of threads about people crying about how Disney does not care about the safety of their guests, blah blah blah.

If this is the thing that ruins your vacation, you should just stay home in your perfect little homes. There is so much more in the park to see. Just walk down Main Street and go somewhere else.

LOL! Maybe they can put the Main Street CM's in brown uniforms too!

Main Street refurb..... brought to you by UPS! :rotfl2:

I wonder if it has to do with the fact that Disneyland is a little over 400 acres and Disney World is somewhere around 30,000 acres?

Comparing Magic Kingdom to Magic Kingdom, not whole resort.

I mean, even in the small details Disneyland does a better job.

I haven't been to Dinseyland, so I will take your word for it. I was just pointing out there is wayyyyyyy more real estate to take care of at WDW.

I understand, these brown boxes are still open for business? So, I'm assuming, there is no danger to the public, while "whatever" is happening, under these tarps?

Wrong, it got secured floor, so it is perfectly safe to walk under but it does not mean nothing can fall on people walking by.

Noticed your signature... we did SWW with MK view from BLT last year... what could be better, right?!? HAVE AN AWESOME TIME!!! pixiedust:

If you look at the second photo here:

http://www.wdwmagic.com/Dining/Main...et-Bakery-exterior-refurbishment-underway.htm

it appear that they have already started to put up the "scrim".

My last visit in March of 2011 they had this type of structure up at the beginning of main street on the right hand side. It's not the prettiest thing in the world, but I'm not going to let it ruin my trip next month!

*SHHHHHHHHH, now they are going to find something else to complain about, lol.*

Actually, I can empathize with people on this topic. I love WDW and often get there twice a year - I'm thankful for it. If I'm healthy and nobody died, I will have a wonderful trip no matter what. Still, I can understand feelings of disappointment - especially if its a once in a lifetime or a rare trip. Many people imagine perfection - and honestly, Disney perpetuates that myth as hard as they can :goodvibes. People dream of those perfect views and photos of Main Street. Being disappointed about an ugly box is a far cry from a ruined vacation, and these forums are the perfect place to vent about it (or I wish they were).

I always wondered...does anyone take their FIRST trip to Disney with that in mind? That this is just the first one. Or do they take a trip to Disney World and everyone thinks it is their one and only, once in a lifetime visit? Until one gets there they don't ever have a clue whether or not it will be the only one. They may think so, but no one really knows.

If they don't return, is it because there was a cover on one of the buildings on Main Street and they could never get past that or might there be a different reason like economical or health? Would it really stop anyone from going again, really? Would it matter even if the park were pristine when they get there? Does it have that much of an affect on our thinking or is it just something to complain about.

WDW's Magic Kingdom is 40 years old. Even if they had someone continuously maintaining the buildings wouldn't something need to be replaced by now? I went to Disneyland during the super special 50th anniversary in 2005. I had read how perfect everything was and how much effort had been put into the park because of the celebration. Guess what, I saw rusting pipes that were in place as queue separators, large sections of paint on "small world" missing and even a hole in one of the normally painted walls, a large chunk of a step broken off and missing at the train station. This was after a major uplift of the park and during one of the biggest celebrations they ever had.

I'm sure that there were many other examples of this that I didn't notice because that is not what I was looking for. What I was looking for was a theme park that offered stuff that no one else did and that 98% of it was in such a state that I felt that it was clean and exciting place to be. That was my only trip to California that I am likely to ever make, so that was my one and only visit. The only thing about the visit that bothered me was the fact that they had supplemented the Haunted Mansion for that Halloween overlay made of cardboard cutouts and day glow paint. It was in good shape though.

I'm sure this one was important though because every person I have ever spoken too can't wait to get to Disney World because they have spent their life dreaming about seeing the Bakery on Main Street. Now that it is covered up...they have fallen into a deep depression. Really the only way that this covers the view of the Castle up Main Street is if you are standing directly behind it on the sidewalk. Perhaps Disney should put up signs telling everyone to step to the left onto the street or the other side of the road so they can see it.
