Big tarp on Main Street - Is it still there?

They aren't going to make those into VIP parade viewing areas are they?

i think i read a post yesterday concerning the big cover on Main St and assumed it was still there. it is horrible!

The MK is really a big mess right now. Lots of tarps, the back area closed, Thunder Mtn closed and some others. I see construction equipment around that I used to not see along the roads and monorail. I feel bad for tourists who are spending money to come visit. At times it may have been a good idea for me not to re new our pass and wait a year. Splash Mnt broke down again when we were on it yesterday for about 20min. They gave us each a park wide fast pass for any fast pass ride, expires this Sat. Space Mnt is always breaking down, sometimes for most of the day. MK just seems so small now with what all is going on.

But, the place does need work and how else are you going to do it other than going ahead and doing it.

Epcot needs work bad IMO. That will be interesting to see how that goes.

Seriously? This is what you people worry about when on vacation? A tarp? Did it ever occur to some of you that perhaps the tarp is there not only to cover up the work but to also protect guests from getting hit in the head with a falling tool? Sure they can rope off the area but things don't just fall straight down. They can go to the the side, away from the roped off area then Disney has a lawsuit. Then we would see millions of threads about people crying about how Disney does not care about the safety of their guests, blah blah blah.

If this is the thing that ruins your vacation, you should just stay home in your perfect little homes. There is so much more in the park to see. Just walk down Main Street and go somewhere else.

I have to agree.

You were on SM with DS and his family. If you heard a crying child, probably my DGS.

PP..sorry Disney doesn't get a pass because it's 40 years old. I've been in 500+ year old buildings, that are better maintained. Disney isn't what it used to be, and it shows.

It was around 2:30, heard no babies. :thumbsup2

I will assume that those 500 year old buildings are not in this country and that they never have been covered, closed or otherwise not accessible due to the maintenance done to them to allow them to last 500 years. You're sure that at 40 years old no one did anything to it to replace or repair damage?

What basically you are saying is that you want them to maintain them better as long as they don't maintain them while you are present to witness it. It just seems to me that you cannot have both. It either isn't being maintained and is therefore open all the time or occasionally it gets closed to do the maintenance that you say they so badly need! Is it reasonable to demand that, considering the number of buildings that are on property, should be completely kept in shape during the few hours per night that they are not open to the public and maintenance only consists of painting that can be done at night and completed by opening the next day?

Sorry, but that doesn't seem based in reality. There is only so much that Pixie Dust can do...after that it requires real time and labor.

Aren't they actually maintaining them right now?:confused3

You can build maintenance lifespan into buildings.

I know of a nearby university board that demands all new buildings be constructed with 100 year materials / construction techniques. For roofs that means no flat roofs, which results in gabled slate and standing-seam-copper roofs on most buildings.

But, Main Street, USA involves a lot of painted wood for the correct look, and paint doesn't last that long. And you cannot always repaint (without time-consuming removal) because after a while paint covers details.

I understand it needs to be done, but overall it feels like road construction. You know when the 15 mile stretch of highway on your commute undergoes 4 projects on 4 consecutive years? They are not doing the same piece of road, but your commute is under construction. Main St has been under construction for a while and its hard to miss. I always thought Disney was more customer focused than a DOT...

Do you wait, until an item is broken or worn out.. before you give it attention? Do you wait, until, the paint is chipping or your roof is leaking, or do you keep it in good repair with routine maintenance and care? (I mean, your home, car, furniture, etc?) How long, would you put out buckets for a leaky roof, before it was fixed...your business or home?

It's no secret, WDW doesn't receive the regular, TLC, it once did. Why are so many things in need of repair, replacement or maintenance..all at the same time? Penny pinching, neglect, poor management, etc.?:confused3

We actually have a thread with many more issues, regarding "the decline", so I will stay on point.;)

What makes you think something is actually broken? They always did work on parks buildings, nothing new. Lets not cry wolf, not everything is poor management, neglet and so on, however everything is a huge deal for some people on board. :confused3

Look as long as I can still get my cinnamon rolls and such I'm all good. I can just walk to the other side of it take my photos. It will all be fine.

I'd rather be there looking at that for 8 days than at work in my classroom looking at my little darlings. I do love them so but not more than the WORLD.

Geez, the things some people complain about :sad2:

Anyone the least bit upset about this eyesore tarp has sure had an easy life. Count your blessings.

As for marring the view of the castle, walk past the damn thing and the view is as great as ever.

Shades of NIMBY. Everyone knows that maintenance and repairs are necessary, but some are like NDMV!!! (not during my vacation!!)

The people here whining would have fit in perfectly during this past weekend's Saturday Night Live skit: White People Problems.

You know, the people who are bothered by others' disappointment over the January closings and refurbs don't have to read these threads. ;)

Or maybe some folks just like whining about people who whine?

(Ahhh, the irony...)

We're leaving in three weeks. We're going, despite the closures and refurbs. I'm certainly not going to let any of this stuff spoil our trip.

At the same time, I am a little disappointed. What's so bad about that? How does it affect anyone else on this board? Why does that deserve character attacks and judgments and mean-spirited assumptions about my life or character or whatever?

That's it. Oh, but my daughter wants me to add this to the post:

Here, let's all have some dancing bananas, maybe we'll all feel happier!

:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

:rotfl:

That would have been a better and funnier one than the ones they used!

I have no problem if you think some of us are "whining" as you call it. That's your opinion and you are entitled to say it.

Just like I am entitled to say that I think the box is ugly.

But wow -- so sad -- what does race have to do with this at all? I just don't understand:sad2:
