Has anyone tired using a bigshot die in the cuttlebug?

My fav Stampin Up demonstrator is doing these videos using the bigz large square scallop die to cut fabric. It can cut 8 layers of fabric at a time, then she just quilts it...purses are what she is making, but I can see how easy it would be to make a rag quilt too.

So if the die fits my cuttlebug, I can cut the fabric with that. :confused3

I don't think so Deb. You need a big kick or a big shot for the xl large dies.

Is it a short one or a long one? The short ones fit, but the long ones don't. Actually, the long ones fit, but the plates you need to put them on don't. Does that make sense?

The die is 5 1/2" x 6"

It looks like this :

Yep, that should work. I have a couple SU dies here that I use in my Cuttlebug all the time (used one last night in Holly's ;) ).

OK, cool! :thumbsup2

The cuttlebug info said it can cut fabric, just can't be over 1/8" thick.

Hmmmm, maybe I'll check for the cuttlebug dies, see if they have a big scallop die...

ETA- nope...nothin like the bigz one. I just hate to buy another "machine"... but still, it really is way cool...

I looked into this issue a few weeks back, when my ACM had gazillions of Sizzix dies all for $1-5. I've got a Cuttlebug, so did some research into what would fit and what wouldn't.

From what I learned, the Bigz die will just fit into the Cuttlebug, but the Bigz pads won't - they need to have a tiny bit sawed/cut off to allow them to fit in the Cuttlebug.

Here's one of the threads I had reviewed - but there are lots more out there online that talk about how to cut down the pad, if you want to go this route. We're DIYers with all sorts of house stuff and have lots of tools, so this wouldn't scare me off, but...

Good luck!

Perfect! That really helped! I'm so happy I don't have to buy a new machine! I have sooo much fabric, and I hate cutting squares! This is going to work out great!

Thanks!

Yes, the thickness of the dies works it's just the width of the plates. I did end up buying *another* machine a couple years ago. I buy more of the XL dies now, since I have the big shot machine, and I find I use them quite a bit. The baby onesie one is what I used to make those invites for Betsy's baby shower. I definitely got my money's worth on that one ;)

I ordered the die... can't wait to get into some of this fabric now...

This is the great video I couldn't remember - but it was VERY helpful in showing all the different dies and how to use them with a Cuttlebug. Clear, informative, and interesting!

Debbie - hope this is helpful! (It certainly gave me the push to run out and grab lots of the big Sizzix dies when I saw them on clearance!) Ok, so I didn't need THAT much of a push...!

Her blog is called My Life's Art - also helpful and interesting.

Thanks PBF! That video is great!

I've used my classic red sizzix dies in the cuttlebug, but I wasn't sure about the bigz one. When the die comes, I'll have to try a few different combos with plates and fabric layers to get an idea of what works best. It makes a nice 4 3/4 scalloped square, so all my quilting books that have square patterns are having the dust blown off and I'm getting some good ideas.

Mindless cutting vs. mat and rotary cutter... how cool is that?

I love the baby onsie die!!!have I told you that?;)

who am I kiddin...... I love all the dies!!

:yay: I found a Perry the Platypus T-Shirt and Phineas and Ferb with Perry one at Target yesterday. Bought the XL boy size. It should fit as long as they don't shrink. :)

Oh Ann bubba would love that. I'll have to take a ride over there.
That's one of his fav shows.

Dh sings the sing all the time!!!!!

Moooooommmm phineas and ferb are making a title song....

The die has shipped out of Utah and is headed across country to live at my house :teeth:

I ordered online from the girl in KS who's youtube videos have been so cool. I'm afraid it was a bit too easy...
