Big runDisney announcement coming in April

I wouldn't think they'd run it on the same weekend, it just seems like they'd simply halve the number of runners that show up to the current princess.

That's what I was thinking, but then maybe that's the goal? Make the princess a smaller race, more intimate on both coasts. The people who flew to the East Coast from CA would no longer have to travel, plus you'd get more locals to the CA race. I think they could pull enough runners for both races to make it worthwhile.

It probably isn't the answer to the mystery, but that's all I'm coming up with so far, haha.

See, whereas I don't see the need for yet another women-oriented race. It's not as though there is a huge shortage of them, after all. A pirates and princess one would be fine, but (supported by the current poll on runDisney's FB page), I pretty much assume that it's going to be another women-oriented race.

Oh I'm not saying I do either. I personally don't see the appeal in dressing up in costumes and running...and the thought of all that pink and purple kind of makes me nauseous. Plus all the sorrority-like "OMG what are you wearing? Ho are you fixing your hair?" as evidenced on here. Ew.

I still think it's a race at WDW and a race where they will get more profit, rather than overlapping similar race weeks or have two large events week after week. ESPN is not a large event weekend, not like that of the Princess. I still am thinking sometime in spring or summer as those are voids in the races at Disney. I feel if it is a summer or late spring, expect a late or overnight race to avoid the midday heat and the sun period. I just can't see Disney justifying having two of the same races on each coast on the same weekend, you are taking away an opportunity for runners to participate in all the events and drawing people away from one race to another. I just don't see the inside corporation competition being a good strategy for maximizing the money they could make.

However, it is possible for them to take ESPN the weekends and make it a bigger event, it is a slow week for them normally and if they can get the Princess crowd to stay that whole week and participate in both weekends, that's way more money in their pockets. Maybe that's what was meant when the Princess would be very interested in this event. I prefer not that happening, but it is a great possibility. Plus it could very easily be the kick off event for the Flower and Garden event as that starts March 7 I believe next year and the race would be March 4. I'm trying to look at the way Disney would see it, maximize profit, minimize work. Also, the tents at EPCOT would already be set up for package pickup/dropoff. If this does happen, I hope it's a new course and not the same course two weeks in a row. I don't really see a full marathon, more money is to be made in a half, or maybe a new unique marathon length would be cool. I like the metric marathon idea as previously stated.

Agreed, unless it's a Halloween race. Then, I could see a costume if it didn't interfere with the actual running.

Meh, to each his own. For me, I'm not a serious runner. Never will be. Never want to be. I'm not a squeeeer or an OMG-er, but I like girly things, which is why the princess appeals to me.

I only want to run Disney races because it's an excuse for another trip to Disney and they are fun. I've planned on running the princess both years but missed the inaugural race because I was pregnant and had complications and missed this year's because I never got back on the running horse after DS was born.

For me, the costumes and tutus and tiaras are part of the fun and draw. It's nice having race options that aren't intimidating for newbie, non-serious runners. I plan on running it next year, in costume, and celebrating the fun and magic of being a girl.

But, I do see why people who aren't into the concept aren't fans. It's understandable from both sides.

For me, the costumes and tutus and tiaras are part of the fun and draw. It's nice having race options that aren't intimidating for newbie, non-serious runners. I plan on running it next year, in costume, and celebrating the fun and magic of being a girl.

But, I do see why people who aren't into the concept aren't fans. It's understandable from both sides.

I see the need for light-hearted, fun races that are essentially designed for the novice runner, or those who are not trying to PR. (I would not try to PR any Disney race - next time, I'm taking a camera, b/c I kicked myself for the whole Goofy for not having one!) But I think making it gender-specific (or gender-oriented) is a bad idea - if nothing else, you are cutting out half the possible audience. (There are two reasons why I probably won't be doing a tri anytime soon - first, I swim rather like a brick, and second, the only novice-friendly, supportive tris in the area would require some major surgery on my part.)

I'm starting to wonder if it's a longer, endurance race that begins at the Princess half and ends during the following weekend which is ESPN weekend. Endurance is popular right now, and people seem interested in running multiple races (like on marathon weekend in January). Might be fun to have a race every day, or maybe two big races on consecutive weekends. Meeting some celebrities after the second race would be a fun incentive too.

This seems like a lot of promotion on Disney's part--I hope I'm not let down when it's finally announced!

See I disagree. Running isn't a job. I don't get paid to do it and I'm not forced to go out and do it every week day because I have to provide for my family.

I do it because I enjoy it. It's fun and once in a while, doing something different can be a good change of pace. Not every person who ran the Princess was all 'sorrority-like', many of them ran it without a costume and still had a blast.

I guess I figure, if it doesn't hurt someone, why does it matter what I wear? If it's not your style, that's fine, I'm not making you wear it and a lot of people didn't dress up. I'm not judging them and I have no problem with it, I'm sure thay had a lot of fun and to me, that's what a Disney race is about. Why can't the same go the other way around without labels? Like, seriously?

Just because I wore a tiara doesn't mean I didn't take the race seriously. It's not like I didn't finish it, didn't train for it. I ran the 13.1 miles, just as everyone who didn't dress up did (in both January and February) but somehow my committment and dedication are not the same because of what I was wearing the day of? Not sure how that works.

If people want to dress up and deal with all the chafing that involves, more power to them. I choose not to engage in such silliness. I'd rather focus on my running and have fun knowing that I've accomplished something most people haven't WITHOUT silliness.

I'm with the others who feel that there are already enough women-centered races out there there's not a need for another one.

I'd rather run the race having the time of my life in a tutu, rather than feeling I had to do my job. Different strokes for different folks...neither is less worthy.

Nobody said it was less worthy. The point, I think, is that even if you aren't a professional/serious runner, you are there to run. If you want to run in a costume, that's on you. But a lot of us just want to be in the clothes we run in every day. Less chance of disaster that way.

I still have fun running in my races. I have a flipping blast. I just don't look like I'm going to a costume party.

I'd think if you bother to pay the entrance fee for a race, you'd want to do well - which believe it or not CAN be done while having the time of your life - and so yes, in that sense it's a "job". But not everyone thinks of "job" as a dirty word.

I don't have a problem with people wearing a costume to run. I think it makes the course more fun. I was getting annoyed by the abundance of "what are you wearing" posts on the princess thread. I tried my best to just ignore them though. My next post (out tomorrow) on the Disney Drive Life is about the costumes on the course and the Disney Parks blog has a post up now about the costumes. Let everyone run the race that they want to run.

And I can totally agree with and respect that. I was nervous about the bajiollion (love the word!) possible things that could explode or go wrong. I can totally understand not wanting the trouble.

I also agree that if someone chooses to wear a costume, the onus is on them to keep it in line and out of the way of any and every one. I ran into a couple of fairy wings in the race that were not in control and I couldn't pass. At that point, I would agree the runners wearing them should have had a way to keep them in check.

My goal at Disney races is not to PR (although that would be nice) . . . rather enjoy the course and sights. I saved my PR for the National Half (or other races in the future) this past weekend.

...but at the same time I think you have to respect that people ARE trying to PR! As evidenced at the National this weekend, Disney does organized races like few organizations in the country.
