Big runDisney announcement coming in April

I don't think Disney owns all the land that the DL half runs on either, do they? I haven't run it myself yet, but my BF has and I'm doing it this year...doesn't it go through other parts of Anaheim and Angel Stadium?

Yes, which I think is exactly the point roomthreeseventeen was making. Even the DL Half isn't THAT MUCH on Disney property. Looking at course maps from the past, it's more like "The Anaheim Half Marathon Sponsored By Disney". Yes, I'm doing it this year, but I may not again once I get the C2C medal since for me the draw of a Disney race is the time on Disney property. If the WDW things were more Orlando than Disney I probably wouldn't do them more than once either.

Hi, Princess Summer!!

The DL half is not as much in parks and on Disney property--true.
Yes, you do run through Angel Stadium which is pretty cool and you run past the ice rink where the Mighty Ducks play.

If people are worried about lack of entertainment...don't! I think there is at least as much entertainment on the DL half course as at WDW....in the form of cheer squads (zillions of them, it seems--there are places that are a wall of sound and cheering--simply amazing!), several high school bands, Polynesian style dancers, a fantastic mariachi band and dance group (think Ballet Folklorico), scouting troops. One year, they had little hockey league guys along the road, clicking their hockey sticks, but I don't think they were there the last 2 times I ran.

So...not so much in the way of characters like at WDW...but crazy awesome fun!

all this talk about DL half really makes me wish I had gotten around to registering before it filled! Unfortunately it's the second worst week of the year for me work wise, so I was on the fence :-/

I just got an email from runDisney encouraging me to become a fan on facebook...they're really pushing this! The email starts out with "Have you heard, we're announcing a new runDisney race!"

so what do you think about this new clue? fantasia/dumbo and dumbo:tangled

i got nothing.

Hi Betsy :)

I know, I think at this point I don't even care what/where it is...I just want to do it and get an "inaugural" medal :woohoo:

For me, it's not a fear of lack of entertainment, but more if I wanted to run the Anaheim Half Marathon (or marathon) I would. A Disney race for me is about DISNEY. Not mariachi bands, high school bands, etc. I can get that in New York.

Wait until you hit the stretch between Animal Kingdom and WWOS and DHS at the full, then. It's not so much about Disney, either. And much less entertainment. Just when you are hitting the wall! :goodvibes

LOL! totally! i want to just write on their FB "come on disney, just tell us. cut this guessing $hit!"

Someone essentially already did. He had a good point. The impact is going to be gone with this guessing game.

(I'm just glad that it seems to NOT be leaning in a Star Wars direction. LOL.)

All I can come up with is the race will go through Fantasyland. Dumbo is in Fantasyland and they are building a tower themed to Tangled, right? Fantasia may refer to PhilharMagic.

All a guess which is probably wrong.

so what do you think about this new clue? fantasia/dumbo and dumbo:tangled

i got nothing.

Well, I had the same idea as a couple of other posters on FB....
The format they released the clue looked like "date" (mm/dd) and "time (hh:mm), so I thought maybe March 4 at 4:50 (because Fantasia, Dumbo and Tangled were 3,4,50 animated features respectively)

That would be Sunday next year--a possibility.

Another person posted about the whole MK redo of Fantasyland (Dumbo, Tangled tie-ins) and suggested a possible race to celebrate the re-opening of that area (although I don't know when the construction will be done.

I really like the idea of a race on 3/4, that is a 4 person, 50 mile relay - though I would hope for a solo option as well. But, I still suspect that it will be a women-themed, or women-only race regardless of what it is. :sad2:

The only clue I thought was useful was the opt-out from the e-mail:

Makes me think it's a West Coast race.

I was really excited about this clue until I rechecked the email, and saw the unsubscribe for WDW was just under it. Maybe I just really want that C2C

I'm not sure. Disneyland is mad small.

I don't think Disney owns enough land in California to do a full.

Actually, DL HAD a marathon in 95. It was a royal Cluster. The course had a funky turn that was cut out of the course on race day (for the early runners) making the course seriously short of 26.2.

Also, the DL half course was more on property than the 2011 course. We looped through CA, DL then out on the streets, and returned through CA and DTD. I think If I were to measure the DL Hald course I ran has more park miles than the Florida half course.

Can someone please explain what the obsession with relays is? If I'm going to run a race, I want to RUN THE RACE. I don't get it.

I'm doing my first relay in DC on Saturday, and it was a way for my running friend and I do to a race together as a team, not against each other. If he joins me for chip, it will be the same thing.

Ah. I guess my friend and I are weird. For us, even running the same race we're not running against each other. We're each running our own race but together. I know I'm never going to be competitive, so for me every race is just against myself. Knowing I've got a buddy out there doing the same thing even if we're not together while doing it helps enormously. For me moreso than only doing half a race. I guess in my mind I'd feel just that...that I'd only run half a race (assuming it's a 2-person thing).
