Big runDisney announcement coming in April

Coach, I think your course Hawaii course would be great and it would give me a good reason to go to the resort (normally the fam. sticks to the park-based resorts). On that basis alone, I think the idea has merit. Attracting new customers to the new resort. :thumbsup2

I'm seriously considering making a trip to the new resort... now if there's a HALF marathon there, it just make my decision for me!

I'm in the same boat. It has a lot of good advertising going for it and putting a race there would give me a good 'excuse' to choose there over other places to spend my vacation time.

At lunch I 'played' with the layout of 26 miles at Ko Olina. Needs some on the ground tweaking but with no effort I came up with 26 miles in less than 5 minutes.

The really neat thing is if you turn on the OpenStreet layer on under map options you can see the foot print of Aulani resort. Sorry, the satellite photos have not caught up.

Very cool Coach!! :thumbsup2 I am still thinking a long the lines of places they need people to stay for the occupancy surge...and I don't think that Aulani will be hurting for anyone to stay there! But, I wouldn't mind having an excuse either! :rotfl:

Why couldn't the new race announcement be for another race in DL? I know another poster said that Galloway told them that it would be in WDW, but maybe he was wrong. Is he that tied in with RunDisney that he decides with them where the races will be? :confused3

Plus, with the speed that the DL 1/2 filled up so quickly and more people wanting to do C2C, it would seem logical that it could be another one at DL. Give people who run the 1 of the many WDW races to have more of a choice than a 1 time DL event. Runners wouldn't have their hands tied with when they have to do a DL race. And, it would be nice for people in the western states to have a race close to home. :goodvibes

I don't know if he decides with them necessarily but he would probably be in the loop as they were planning the race and coming up with the details.

I wonder if Disney looked at the numbers for DL and realized that the majority (or at least a significant enough number) of runners were from SoCal and not traveling from the rest of the US. If so they probably wouldn't do another race at DL. The point of the races isn't the races themselves but to get people to the resorts to stay in the hotels, eat in the restaurants, and buy souvenirs at the shops. If they are just driving in and doing the race and then using their APs to go to the parks it might not be worth the cost.

This is just speculation because I don't know the numbers but I know a much higher percentage of the visitors to DL are local as opposed to the visitors to WDW.

Also, will the DCA expansion be done my next spring? If they do another running event out there I don't see it being introduced until it is finished.

The elevation chart didn't look that bad either. I was expecting hillier. :thumbsup2

We're going to Hawaii in December, I'm making sure I take about an hour to go see the new resort. :)

I stayed in the Marriott Vacation Club in the south cove of Ko Olina 10 years ago. (Wait as a DVC Member, can I say that out loud?) It was our second trip to the Islands on MVC. At that time only MVC and the Marriott were in the development. Looks like Disney is the fourth unit and is sharing the cove with Marriott.

While we were not impressed with the KoOlina development, we really enjoyed the coves. I could swim cove laps and not be worried at all about rogue waves or currents. It was actually the first time I swam a mile or longer in salt water. Man what a blast as compared with fresh water.

We are headed back to another Island in August and are planning a day in Oahu. Really looking forward to seeing the resort.

Oh, as I recal the mountain forming that part of the Island was not all that steep.

I don't know if this has ANYTHING to do with the announcement, but...

I just got an email from my sister and my running partner in Disney races, both of whom are CMs about May 12 and 13 and trying to come down there. The words SCAVENGER and HUNT were used.

It may not be related at all, but who knows...

On their page now, there's a huge message saying to "like" them for fan exclusive clues to try and crack the code of what/where the new race will be.

Hairy elephants! :rotfl:

No... I haven't seen Tangled. First thing that linked Fantasia and Dumbo to me was the elephants. But that's not so much a running thing. :confused3

I thought date and time at first.

But--
3/4
4:50

Doesn't make much sense to me.

Just found this thread and got caught up...my initial guess when I first read the flier from the Expo and heard the announcement before the Princess half this year was a Princess-themed Full in DL. The way the announcement was made went something like this: that there would be a new race announced soon that "...I think all of you Princesses out there are going to be VERY interested in."...that's what made me think another Princess-themed race (I think the flier mentioned something about "attention all Princesses, Queens and Fairies"...or something like that...I already threw it away though)...and then the flier from the Expo mentioned that it would be "a first"...so I thought DL's first full. Who knows??? :confused3 But it's fun to guess!!!!

I don't think Disney owns enough land in California to do a full.

I don't think Disney owns all the land that the DL half runs on either, do they? I haven't run it myself yet, but my BF has and I'm doing it this year...doesn't it go through other parts of Anaheim and Angel Stadium?
