BIG ANNOUNCMENT Cellular & Internet

One other tid bit. The system will only be active when they are two miles from land. This way when you are in port you can benefit from the less expensive land roaming rates.

Interesting note: If you are on the top deck you can often hit a cell tower that is 15-20 even 30 miles away. On the 7 day Eastern cruise I had a signal about 30% of the time at sea since we were usually close to one island or another.

Be sure to check with your carrier about the charges for Text Messaging, for T-Mobile phone calls would be around $5 per minute, a Text Message is .35 for outgoing and .10 for incoming....

The ship is essentially all metal so that each room is a Faraday Cage i.e. block all radio signals. I suspect they will work on verandas and there are likely to be spots on some decks where a signal will reach but the majority of the ship will be signal free.

I suspect the in cabin hot spot will be attached to the hardwired phone in your room. Instead of having to run wire all over the ship, they just have to plug in to the existing phone wiring.
