Everyone please join me in welcoming 2 new moderators to the Cooking, Crafting, Scrapping, Flower and Garden board....

KAYLAJR and JUDITHM!!!!

Congratulations on your new assignments! I know you guys are going to do a great job here with me on this fun board!

Now, I bet a bunch of you were reading the first line and said "HUH? Flower and Garden?" Well, that is another big announcement! In the near future, the Flower and Garden board will be merging with us into one larger board to make one great Disney at Home type board!!

Now.. here is the part where I ask you to put on your thinking caps. We have more control over the aspects of the board than ever before. We can decide how the board is set up (as long as it is within guidelines of course!) and even what we will call it - because lets face it.. Cooking, Crafting, Scrapping, Flower and Garden is a mouthful!

So I want you all to think about what YOU would like to see for our new home. Should we merge everything together? Should we have a main board with sub-boards like Community has so that slower subjects don't get buried under faster moving ones? More stickys? Less stickys? What should the name of the board be?

Keep notes, and when it's time for us to "start construction", I will be calling on all of you for ideas. We are going to make this the most awesome board on the DIS!!!

So who's excited??

Wow - all of us together!!!

I vote for sub-communities. I think there are a lot of diverse topics, so that would help with navigation. Sometimes I come here for scrapbooking these or specifically for food/recipes stuff, so I would much prefer things to be broken out.

I like the "Disney at Home" title, but I don't think it describes all of the subjects the new board will contain. Maybe something about hobbies... I'll have to put my thinking cap on here.

Welcome to the two new moderators. I'd love to see this thread grow!!!

Megan

I like the idea of it somehow being called hobbies and then having sub boards. ONe for scrapping, crafting, flower and garden, and cooking. Cool! :flower:

Thanks for your input Megan - you seem to feel the same as me. I've sat back and watched the board my first week and I see how some subjects overpower others and I was thinking sub boards may be the best solution :) :)

Also, are there any other categories in the "family" of crafting, cooking and gardening that the DIS doesn't cover that you would like to see? For example, maybe a home improvement "How To" kind of area - especially for decorating with Disney?

I'm all for sub-communities. Not sure I like the Disney at Home. Even though Disney has brought us together, I don't feel that is what we are here.

I like sub-communities, but I don't. I almost think it will make people less likely to read some things because if you just came for crafting you might not see someone asking for help on cooking something that you know how to do. I don't know...I'm not good with change.

I vote for sub-forums. While I think the variety is great, we've already had a lot more traffic since the t-shirt thread and others were moved over here... Sometimes, I have only a limited amount of time to read the threads and the topics that should have gotten my attention (swaps that I'm in, etc) get buried much too fast.

Sub-communities is definitely the way to go!

When I first started hanging out here, recipes & meal planning took up a large portion of the board. As more & more scrapper found us here, those threads began to dominate the board. At the time, I wasn't scrapping & was often frustrated at my inability to find what I needed as the "Search" function would be down.

Also, I notice that many people will post food questions on the CB - and we can't convince them to stop in here to post. They say, understandably, that their posts get lost in the scrapping stuff.

We do tend to cover the How To/DIY aspect around here. Not so much actual home improvement, but decorating ideas: everything from lawn decorations at Halloween, to Christmas ornaments & Mickey wreaths, to suggestions for doing a Mickey bathroom or scrap room.

It would be great if we could separate out all those instructions so they were easy to find. I know creating a bunch of new board/sub-communities may not be the way to go, but if there are too many sticky threads then the day-to-day stuff gets lost.

As for the name...my first thought was the Disney at Home seemed to fit....or maybe Disney around the House...but maybe it should just be something like Around the House? The CB doesn't bother to specify that it's Disney since it's already part of a Disney board. If we use "Hobbies" in there somewhere, that sort of implies that Photography should be here too, don't you think?

I totally agree with this point! I've been very frustrated in that I'm not getting my email notifications and when I try to check in to see what's new, the T-shirt thread is always at the top. (And yes, I've already been through all of the Tech Board help with my email issue but they haven't been able to help.)

:wave2: I am Lyn and this is my first post on the Cooking, Crafting and Scrapping Board.....but I would like to say congratulations to KAYLAJR and JUDITHM. This looks like a fun board and I love doing crafts and baking so I look forward to the new setup and sharing ideas/learning something new. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hello all :wave2:
and THANKS for the Welcome :teeth:

I know I am new to these boards but I am not new to the DIS so i am hoping to help make these boards a fun place to hang out and help them Grow

I agree with what has been said above. The sub communities, and I would probably check them all. When trying to find a specific thread, it is hard sometimes with all the different topics.

Welcome kaylajr! :flower:

Welcome to the new mods!

I mainly agree with the above posters. Sub-communities are a MUST, especially if we will be adding Flower and Garden. :)

I don't really like Disney at Home, because most of the cooking and scrapbooking/crafting isn't really Disney related.

Just my thoughts...

Mandy

too kewl!

I vote for sub communities.

I always have a hard time finding some of my threads and miss the answers I am looking for when that happens.

As for the name.....

something that is about handmade, homespun, made with love, like a Patchwork of some sort...like Homespun Fun

Well, let me clarify a bit ;) I wasn't using Disney at Home as the title of the board - more to clarify the feel of the board. When you look at the topics we are thinking of covering - cooking = kitchen, gardening =yard, crafting/scrapping =maybe the Den and if we add other things like interior decorating with Disney that would be = workbench/shop - kind of shows that our board covers all aspect of bringing our love of Disney home. Doesn't mean that all of our scrapbooks, crafts, gardens etc are Disney themed.. just unifies the fact that we are a Disney board. So the name is still wide up in the air so keep the ideas coming. Maybe something to do with "Past Times" or "Special Interests" or "Creating"?

Welcome new moderators!

I like the idea of sub-forums.

I also like Cindy's idea for the name above! :)

I agree to definitely have sub boards.

No ideas on the names.

Welcome!
