We are adding a 3X to 4X (clothing size) 18yo to our family. He is a great guy who just needs a break. Because we live in snow country and he has never been in snow, my first priority is to get him snow clothes. I had no idea large clothing is so hard to find, especially at a reasonable price. He is 6' 4" and 310lbs. He is a teenager who wants to look cool but is thankful for anything we get him. I found snow boots at Walmart $7 (score!) and a 3X coat same price. The pants are what I can't seem to find.

So all you disers any idea where to find things for him? Snow pants are the first thing he needs right away but all big and tall clothing will be needed in the future.

Thanks for all your expertize!

Happy Holidays!

What size pants does he wear?

Also do you have Marshalls/TJMaxx nearby. You should be able to get him some pants (regular not snow) at Marshalls. I shop for my father-in-law who is round and short 54 inch waist 29 inseam (I often see longer pants), it can be a real challenge. I have done pretty well at Marshalls getting him khaki's/jeans. For tops I buy him a lot of polo shirts.

I am guessing a teenager would want t-shirts, hoodies, and a couple of polos. Most teenagers I know live in jeans and hoodies.

If I have to buy something immediately it is normally from LandsEnd. They have some pretty large sizes in their uniforms section, which means I can get navy, khaki dress pants all the time.

For snow pants in his size you will probably pay through the nose....I would try a hunting type store/catalogue.

Good luck

Dh is a big/tall guy - 3X and just over 6' so I can understand the challenge.

I'm really no help with the snow stuff because I don't really have to shop for that.

As far as regular clothing, Walmart does carry some big/tall but not a great selection. JC Penney has a selection of big/tall although more are big and not so much tall sometimes. Prices aren't cheap but they are often on sale and have great clearance prices. If your local JC Penney doens't carry the larger sizes they do have them online. We don't shop there as much because they seem to often have the same clothing year after year or it is just not exactly what my dh is looking for - but they are a good source for jeans.

Casual Male and King Size Direct also carry larger sizes.

Depending upon his style choices you might check out the Big Dog Store. If there are any outlets near you they are a great spot to get larger sized clothing that really lasts and they have lots of t-shirts and hoodies and sweats. They also sell online but the prices are higher.

I know how hard it can be to find clothing that is cool for teens in larger sizes at an affordable prices. Thank you for caring for this young man.

:goodvibesBigs hugs for taking in a kid who needs a break!

My 15 yo is 6'6" and 280lbs...sigh...it's not easy finding clothes for big teens that don't look like well basically "old man clothes" as he would put it! So I feel your pain right now.

I have had the best luck with JcPenny, go online and see if they have snowpants they usually do. Look for codes to save on shipping or 20% off. Usually they have something floating around to save some money. I also make sure when I am in the store to shop their end of season sales I have found some major bargains at Penny's when I do that.

I've never had luck with Wal-mart or Target, I don't know it may be a regional thing and they just don't stock their stores the same here as they do in other parts of the US.

Casual Male is also good if you stay on the sale racks. Their stuff can be kind of expensive but they do have clothes that appeal to young men.

Of course there is the Buckle. I find jeans there for my son and they are geared towards young men BUT they are expensive. Sometimes I splurge on full priced jeans for him but normally I shop their online sales. You have to know what style and cut he likes though otherwise its very overwhelming. It's unbelieveable all the fits of jeans they have!

Good luck
Lisa

For regular clothes we try to hit JCP or Casual Male outlet both of which can be normal priced when you find a good sale. Not sure how his wardrobe is currently but you'll probably wanna check out LT sizing when it comes to the tops. They should have longer sleeves and have a longer length which my dh always needs.

It is difficult to find big and tall stuff. Being big and tall, he may prefer tall shirts also.

Casual Male has a great selection but can be expensive.

btdirect.com is a subsidiary of Casual Male which is cheaper.

Jcpenney.com

kingsizedirect.com

bigtalldirect.com

sears.com

I hope this helps.

Once again the disers come through! Thanks to everyone for all the info. Invalueable.

Modell's has them....I think sporting goods stores are the best bet.

My DH is 6'3" and 280. His torso is long so we have no luck finding clothes at Walmart or Target or the like. JcPenney is where we shop for his work clothes. They offer the Big AND Tall and not just big. He wears polo shirts to work and we can generally find them on sale for less then $20 a piece. In the summer, they have nicer t-shirts as well. We've found Old Navy is good for his pants. Not sure of the waist size of your young man, but my husband takes a 40/30 and Old Navy carries them. I don't know if you have an outlet mall near year (closest one to me is over an hour) but last spring I scored t-shirts at Nautica 2/$25! Hoping I can get that deal again!

My son is 6', 275 and wears a size 15 shoe... :scared1:

I'm 4'11 with a size 6... I grew up with the EXACT OPPOSITE problem. I wore childrens clothes till my 20s!

I shop for my BIG guy on KingSizeDirect and at JC Penney. I've also had lots of luck on eBay.

God bless you for your kindness!!

By the way, www.kingsizedirect.com has a 30-40% discount on their site.... use code KS17619.

Old Navy has 3xl and larger sized pants. Eddie Bauer does, too.

Do you have a Farm and Fleet or something similar? They tend to carry up to 3x sizes and have various hoodies, jeans, etc.

Carhartt brand carriers a wide range of sizes and the sizes seem to run on the larger size. They offer mens jeans in regular, bootcut, loose, and relaxed. The tees are good quality and they have hoodies too. Dh and I both wear their stuff (and DD6 and DS4). It is very popular around here for all ages.

What a great thing you are doing! God bless you.

I always find 3x and 4x for my nephew at Burlington Coat Factory. The prices are good and they usually have some hip looking stuff.
