Biergarten in Germany- Good or Bad ?

I have always wondered about this place. I don't like beer but my hubby has a occasional beer he would like this. I just don't know if sitting with strangers would be up my ally:confused3

Can't miss restaurant for us...we're going to eat there Saturday night this week and we can't wait!!!

We love the food and the seating arrangements...makes for a very fun evening in a "foreign" country!

It's probably in our top 3 places to eat. Love it. But then again, who wouldn't love a place with a great atmosphere, fantastic food, a fun show, and, at least for us, always GREAT service! :thumbsup2

And oh yeah, really good beers!!!! :lmao:

LOVE the Biergarten. It's one of the few restaurants I'll get an ADR for every trip. Great food, love the entertainment, love the atmosphere, definitely very kid friendly.

Biergarten gets two thumbs up from me :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

We go everytime we vacation at Disney. It has become a family tradition. The food is fantastic and we have always had good service. Plus you can't beat the oompah band. We used to live in Germany and it's almost like being back there.

Great food, beer, fun music and table-pounding with friends. What more can one ask for? Biergarten is definitely the sleeper of WS dining; overlooked by many but well worth a visit.

And what most guests there don't realize is they are eating in what was originally built as the pre-show/queue area for an attraction, one which was subsequently cancelled and never built.

When the World Showcase was being designed, the original plan was for the Germany Pavillion to contain a boat ride, themed as a cruise down the Rhine The whole things was supposed to be based on Wagner's "Der Ring des Nibelungen" opera; it would have included a Black Forest sequence, an encounter with the northern god of ice and cold winds, elves and a climax of plunging into their caves of gold.

The design included a ride entry area themed as a Bavarian village at night and that was built when construction started on the pavillion. But as plans progressed Disney decided not to put an attraction in Germany. So the space was reworked into dining.

And a sidebar: observant Epcot WS visitors may notice that in the space in-between and in back of the Italy and Germany Pavillions is what appears to be a large building. That is the space that was originally built to house the Rhine River ride; it's now used for storage and rehearsals.:teacher:

Love it Love it!!:yay: Great German food (comming from some one thats been to Germany) family style seating is cool and its great to meet new people. Dont miss it!!! We'll be there for Oktoberfest!!

This is one of my favorites for food and atmosphere! :thumbsup2

A lot of the food is very Americanized, but there are some fairly authentic items as well. The buffet has a good variety.

of course, the servers always seem to enjoy interacting with me and we do seem to get some 'extra' attention as they like to be able to speak in their own language to a fellow countryperson

It is oh so good, I love the food there and the apple strudel with vanilla sauce is to die for!

My mother in law is from Germany.....We are taking my in in-laws on their very first trip to the world in December. My mother in law doesnt even know yet, we are making all the arrangements and planning on surprising her this weekend with the news. My father in law is so excited about going he cant stand it!!! They are in their 60's, I told them they have to experience Disney at least 1 time (then they will be hooked like us!!;) )

So we have never been to Biergarten, I am thinking we should definetly do this one, she would love it. She would love speaking to everyone in German. I think in all the years I have known her, I have heard her speak in German maybe 2-3 times. I just hope she likes the food. She may think its too americanized, but its the thought that counts.

We went for the first time this past November. I didn't really care for the food, but I did enjoy the atmosphere. I did like the dessert though. :thumbsup2 My DH said it was just ok and he didn't need to go again. He really enjoyed his beer though!

I think it totally depends on who you end up with at your table. For us it was a nightmare. The most obnoxious family sat at our table- screaming kids cursing, hitting, burping, it was out of control. Parents were smashed. By the time we were ready for dessert- they actually were asked to leave by the management!:woohoo:
But really that ruined it for us. Perhaps they could have a DIS section. Then I would try it again.
The food was fine- it was the drunk at the table that did us in. Oh and we have a bunch of kids ourselves who were shocked by this family too They looked like this:eek:

Just what we need - the "ugly American" showing up in a WS restaurant!!

I certainly hope this is what their "escort out" looked like:

:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:

It was a good thing that I clapped my hand over my mouth so quickly, because if I hadn't I would been cleaning the Dr. Pepper out of my laptop. Then I would have to explain to my DH that it just looked really thristy.:lmao:

Another yes, yes, yes for Biergarten! This is a must do for us. Sometimes twice: the night we arrive and the day we leave. Make sure to save room for dessert. The sauerbraten (sour beef) and schnitzel are wonderful ..... I'm tasting it now....

i'm so glad to hear great reviews on the biergarten! (TY, OP, for starting this thread :thumbsup2 ). we are trying out the last few restaurants on property that are "new" to us, but really would prefer still enjoying the meal ;)
some questions:
~ love the idea of a communal table, but as it is just DH & i, will they put us with other couples (if available, of course), or with a family? either way is fine, of course. just wondering.
~ neither of us really enjoy most german food (despite DH being mostly german, & my having some hungarian/austrian thrown in :confused3 ). the menu shows other options ~ any recommendations?
~ is there a "best" time to ensure seeing the oom-pah band? (i'm soooooo exited about the band & getting into the whole Oktoberfest theme  )
~ heard they have great beer. any idea on the pricing?

now, all i'll need are opinions on marrakesh, & we're done! lol

ty for any & all help :thumbsup2

I go with a friend to Biergarten and we usually are seated side by side. We frankly are enjoying each others company too much to even interact with our dining companions.

As I have said before, the menu is quite Americanized, so if you aren't looking for German food, you will find a lot of alternatives. I enjoy the food there, as a vegetarian, but do chuckle at some of the offerings. (as do the cast members working there)

Just to show an example of the Americanization, somehow the wonderful Bavarian dish Allgäuer Käsespätzle turned into the mundane American macaroni and cheese.
