biddingfortravel.com

Can someone explain to me why it's important (to her) to use her link? Does she earn money or gain a commission from this somehow?

Yes, she does get a small fee when the link is used. My understanding is that Sheryl uses those funds to help defray the costs of running the biddingfortravel site.

Makes sense. I've neve actually used the site* but wondered how it all works.

*my dh has forever forbidden me from Orlando PriceLine bidding ever since we ended up with 2 nights at the Nikki Bird hotel a few years ago. :rotfl:

Ding ding!! I don't understand why people even bother with her. She is NASTY and they are all making her money. Mind boggling.

I switched to betterbidding.com years ago. If I want to use Priceline, I get there by going to betterbidding.com and clicking on a link to Priceline there. Much nicer people.

Yes.

I have no problem with the administrator pushing the use of sites that help them fund thier websites... those things cost money.

However, you get more flies with honey then vinegar something BFT fails to understand.

And she has banned so many people it's hard to imagine she actually has good data anymore.

Betterbidding.com does ask you to use thier links for the same reason but they don't hunt you down. (Sherly actually tries to find posters on other message boards to YELL at them. She has been banned from several travel boards for this habit :) )

Betterbidding.com also has a really cool calendar feature I find useful!

Say what you want, but Biddingfortravel.com has been a very useful tool that has saved our family money over the years that in turn has allowed us to afford special getaways and even vacations to Orlando.
Sheryl does seem to run a tight ship but it does help, as it does with any forum including this one, if you read the Sticky and FAQ first before just posting away. :laundy:

I dont agree at all. She is a very nasty not nice person and there is no reason to be that way

Sounds like she has some serious issues. I had heard about her before I first visited the site and still found her responses to some posters to be on the nasty side. I read just enough to figure out the best way to use Priceline on my own. I've had some great deals over the years and would love to post over there to help others, but it's not worth the agrro that might come my way if I don't dot an I or cross a T just right. I will pop in to see what rates people are getting if I'm planning a trip, but after finding out about BB I'll visit (and most likely) post over there from now on.

Those of you that say you know or like this Sheryl person might want to try and talk some sense into her before she ends up with no traffic on her site once more people discover BB (I've already e-mailed a bunch of my friends about it, and posted on another message board).

I am a former moderator over at BFT (years and years ago) and I used to feel the same way you do. Sheryl *does* run a tight ship and the FAQs, rules and bidding forms are there for a reason. It not only makes it easier for the mods to give accurate advise, but it also involves the bidder in the process and helps them learn and understand how to bid and re-bid properly. It's the difference between giving a man a fish and teaching him how to fish. Many people just want to be given the fish on a silver platter and don't want to put any effort into learning how to fish themselves.

That being said, I do believe that Sheryl has taken the concept of a "tight ship" too far and badgers the people who post there. If you don't follow the rules to the letter, she will be very rude to you. If you don't use her links she will PM/email you and yell at you. If you piss her off more than once (which is NOT too hard) she will ban you and ban your IP so you can no longer even lurk. I always wonder what kind of a great website BFT would be if she didn't chase away all the posters who were providing the price points. It always seemed like she was cutting off her nose to spite her face.

A relatively new site is
http://www.biddingtraveler.com/

This site automates the bid process. It gives you far more free rebid zones then an average user knows how to use, or is willing to take the time to use.

In many zones the suggested starting bid is too high. I suggest doing research on sites like biddingfortravel first.

BFT banned my entire office due to her IP banning system. None of us knew WHO she was mad at but several hundred potential customers were banned LOL!

People have tried talking with her.... it did not help just got them banned.....

I always lurked at BFT....then posted over at Better Bidding. I'm easily intimidated and NEVER would have posted at BFT after reading some of the replies.

But I'm also the sort of person that figured out the process by reading and observing and have only posted my results. I've never asked for help (and this weekend I'm staying at a lovely Sheraton Suites just outside Chicago for $27 a night.)

When I first started internet, I found a Disney board. I was still lurking when I saw someone post about another site where all the posters were so horrible, blah, blah, blah.

Finally someone named the site (it got deleted).

OF COURSE I had to go check that site out.

It was the DIS. And I found that there was much more info and all the questions got way more answers. :)

Now I have to go check out biddingfortravel.

Let us know what you think, and how you're treated there, please.

I was kicked off a couple of years ago.

The sad part is that I had used her link in the past but just forgot that particular time which irked her (it was my 2nd time not using it over the course of 8 years or so).

I have used both, Bidding for Travel and Better bidding.. I like Better Bidding a little better since it seems to have more updated info.. just my opinion. I have never had a problem with either of the sites or those who run them. I have been using them on and off for years...

This is the biggest issue with Sheryl's inability to play well with others. Her data, which is what she is selling, becomes stale because she intimidates those who might post results (but never do because she is mean and rude) and bans many of those who post results anyway.
