Bicycle Riding in Stores (yes, Walmart)

I am just wondering what you all think about this practice?

Yesterday I had to run in briefly to pick up a few items and 3 kids of varying ages were riding bikes up and down a aisle, turning in the main aisle up front. Before I realized it I said something out loud that wasn't too nice and I felt a bad about it.

The funny thing about it was when I got home I talked to my DSIL and she told me that she use to let her son do this in different stores if the store wasn't too busy. I was surprised to say the least.

Am I simply out of the loop and is this the new norm?

We don't ride a bicycle unless we intend to buy it and then it is only enough to check to make sure it is the proper size.

Folks who do it to pass the time in any store are beyond rude IMHO.

I can remember sitting on a bicycle in a store to see if ti was an OK height for me, but riding it???? Never would that have happened with my parents...never.

We buy our bikes in bike stores, but I would have to test out a bike before buying it. At the bike store, the owner takes a bunch outside for the kids to try, so they can pick the one that feels the best. I can't imagine riding up and down the aisles, though.

DH & I just bought bikes (beach cruisers) for ourselves here in SoCal. We went to three bikes shops...I have to tell you NO ONE shopping for bikes was even riding them. They (as well as us) were just looking at the different styles, the prices, the colors....we did buy bikes and to be completely honest we did NOT ride them before we bought them. lolol

Parents are using stores like WalMart more and more as one HUGE babysitter as they shop for their goods.

If you are going to buy a bike I don't see a problem with taking it for a short (20 feet) ride on an unoccupied aisle. The problem comes when you have idiots that call themselves parents that bring their kids to the store and let them run wild. Kids should not be left unattended in a store to do whatever they please which is usually annoying the hell out of other shoppers. I know this happens in everystore that sells bikes but Walmart probably has more of it because 95% of their customers are trailer park trash.

Were they screcching on the bikes? Maybe they were riding to hear themselves ride?

I would have said something rude as well. It is not a playground. It is a store. Of course, there are some that think walmart is a public place and we should all "get over it."

No way! The most I have done is taken a bike down, sat on it, and maybe went a few feet (just in the biking isle, and ONLY if nobody was there, and ONLY if I was there to buy a bike and wanted to see if it was comfortable). I think it's wrong, and rude to let kids ride all over a store on a bike. They can hurt someone, and what ever happened to manners? Usuaully the parents are nowhere to be seen, and when they do show up, they smile and think thier child is being so adorable. Oh, and they don't make the kid(s) put the bike(s) back where they got them, either. Some people have manners, some don't.
