Bichon Frise

anyone have one?

One of the attorneys at my office has a 9 month old male pup, and he's so frickin cute!! I just love this dog to death, so much so that I really want to get one.

I was just curious about them, from people who own them, rather than websites telling me 'generalities' about them.

I'd love to hear the personality differences between males and females....

I had a female bichon who was the cutest puppy in the world. She was a real toughy; she faced off against an opposum until the possum gave up and turned tail, which resulted in a bite to the *** from my dog! LOL. She also played cowboy and jumped on an armadillo's back and rode it down the driveway.

She was sweet, affectionate and very loving. She loved to cuddle up in bed and was a great lap dog. Obviously, she was very protective of her territory, also.

I would highly recommend a Bichon as a house dog.

We have 2 of them, one is almost 2 and the other about 10. They are definately great people dogs. Both of ours love to cuddle. Right now the youngest one is sitting at the top of my chair and the other is curled on the couch.

They both have their quirks but that is what makes them special

We got my mom a Bichon for her birthday many many years ago.
We were able to go back and get her liter mate for ourselves.

Best little dog I have ever owned.

I had one for 16 years. What a wonderful dog she was. They are sweet and funny and very quirky.

My brother now has one and he is a riot. Bichon's are great dogs.

They do require a lot of care. Brushing all the time to keep the knots to a minimum and grooming every 2 months or so.

We have a bichon/poodle and he is the most loving dog you can imagine. All he wants to do is cuddle and play with you. They do not need a lot of exercise since they have such little legs but he does love to play outside.

We keep him groomed very short rather than a traditional bichon cut which is all poofy around the face. DH thinks it looks more manly too.

He also doesn't shed which is a huge plus.

We have 2. Both female. One is 1 1/2 years old and we got her as a puppy. The other is 13 and we rescued her a few months ago. These are GREAT dogs! Personality out the ying-yang. We were lab people for years and decided to make a transition to smaller dogs and chose the Bichon. The don't shed. For a small dog, they are much less "yippy" than most others. The are very smart. The name means, more or less, "little white lap dog" and that is exactly what they are. As soon as we sit down we are covered with Bichons. Can't recommend them enough!

Seriously, I've only ever seen white Bichons. Do they come in any other color?

No, they're only white.

My sister has one and she lovers her! Very smart little dogs. Also, since they don't shed, they are good dogs for people with allergies.

Of course, BEING little white dogs, they have some quirks and problems. My sister's dog suffers from allergies, believe it or not. They had to buy air cleaners for their house because the dog was sneezing. Also, they are prone to urinary tract infections and kidney stones. I had a vet who used to smile ruefully at me when I would bring my Maltese in for one complaint or another and say, "Little white dogs!"

My guy is actually a bichon crossed with an apricot coloured poodle and he's a caramel colour!
